Meir Kahane: Who Was He Really?

Although I do not support everything Meir Kahane has ever said or done, I believe in free speech, fighting Terrorism, and the truth.

It is my personal belief that he was exceptionally misunderstood by naive, small-minded, and politically motivated hucksters, who slandered him with disgusting epithets in order to serve their own power.   The most commonly held negative opinion of Meir Kahane is one based on misrepresentations of his message, misquotations and ignorance.

But the aforementioned is solely my opinion, and I do not want you to simply take my word for it.  Thus, I greatly encourage you to read his books, and speeches then make up your own mind.

( If you are looking for a book to start with, I recommend: They Must Go!)

Now, without further ado, I present to you Meir Kahane.

Mier Kahane

“If we ever hope to rid the world of the political AIDS of our time, terrorism, the rule must be clear: One does not deal with terrorists; one does not bargain with terrorists; one kills terrorists.

“Never, ever deal with terrorists. Hunt them down and, more important, mercilessly punish those states and groups that fund, arm, support, or simply allow their territories to be used by the terrorists with impunity.

“One of the great problems with Americans is that – being a decent people – they assume that everyone else is equally decent.

    Wrath

I’m taking you at the words you wrote and will order the book.

As I said in the back thread – eye for eye. The soundness of this truth is found in the arena where it really counts.

Some of us will not go quietly into that good night.

I’ve not read his book, but, I agree completely with the statements posted.

    Song & Dance Man:

That book (They Must Go!) probably had the greatest impact in my way of thinking about Israel.

Kahane is rough around the edges, unconventional, and unashamed in his opinions and ideas. Accordingly, he is more than willing to address the huge pink elephant in the middle of the room that people have moved Heaven to ignore – the stupidity of the idea that Muslims will live in peace in a Jewish State.

In the book, he clearly points out the logical reasoning of why an Arab can never accept Israel’s existence, or fully accept the Jewishness of Israel. Unlike the present so-called leaders, he accepts the harsh realities of the situation with the Arabs, and the inconvenient truths (if you will) of what unfortunately probably has to be done, and what will result if certain actions are not taken.

At the time he wrote, I would have also dismissed him as a fanatical, extremist. The major problem however is that history, reality, and “the facts-on-the-ground” have bore his “fanatical, extremist” statements true.

Standing up for what’s right doesn’t mean you’ll be popular.
Thanks for your message and may you rest in peace Meir Kahane.

    WrathofG-d,

Yes, and I’m afraid our so-called leaders are not up to the task!

I was reading through the Amazon reviews of the book and looking at a couple of other sites.
It looks to me like there’s a clear difference between Kahane himself and some of those people or groups who claim to be inspired by him.

Someone on Amazon said he had debated Alan Dershowitz and Dennis Prager. That would be interesting!

Maybe I should go ahead and read Kahane’s book or at least try to find some speeches/videos——- but I don’t really want to look at the elephant.
I know it’s there, but I want to believe—– I want to believe it will evolve into a poodle.

Hi WrathofG-d! Fancy seeing you here!

I do agree with several of Kahane’s points.

But there are quite a few Israeli Arabs in Israel who do support the existence of Israel…seeing that they live in far better condition than in many Arab countries!

I met several Arabs and Palestinians who were pro Israel in Israel. Of course they were Evangelical Christians too….

    Pavel,

Yes, of course there are some Israeli non-Jewish Arabs who are very pro-Israel. I would never deny that some exist. Some non-Jewish Arabs in Israel are exceptionally productive members of society, this however isn’t really the point.

It isn’t about being anti-non-Jewish Israeli Arab, but instead about accepting some uncomfortable realities about the situation, including that fact that most non-Jewish Israeli Arabs outright reject the State’s existence, and feel that they homes have been violently stolen by usurpers.

The above recommended book explains it much better than I ever could, and it will allow you to make up your own mind. IIRC however, it too allows for Pro-Israel non-Jewish Israelis to live peacefully within Israel as a Jewish State, as is my hope/desire as well.

Despite how most would like to slander, and frame me, I do not hate non-Jewish Israeli Arabs or do I wish to do them any harm. This however, does not mean that I can ignore some huge harsh realities.

You will notice that this “dangerous” book is out of print. I expect that is not chance.
