Insurgents vow to avenge US raid in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – U.S. special forces aboard helicopters penetrated into Somalia and, guns blazing, attacked a convoy said to contain a top al-Qaida fugitive. A local official, citing intelligence reports, confirmed on Tuesday the target was killed and Islamist insurgents vowed to seek revenge.

[...]

Somali witnesses to Monday’s raid say six helicopters buzzed an insurgent-held village near Barawe, some 155 miles (250 kilometers) south of Mogadishu, before two of the aircraft opened fire on a vehicle, killing two and wounding two.

Two senior members of al-Shabab, who asked that their names not be used because they are not authorized to speak publicly, said their fighters will retaliate for the raid.

“They will taste the bitterness of our response,” one of the commanders told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

Because, well you know… they just ignored us before or something.

    well, yeah.
if we’re going to be so hostile about things I can see why they’d get miffed. You know education is the key, so why don’t we roll into Somalia with a fleet of bookmobiles? You know, like “hiyyyy, hey we brought you some books to teach you all about us, we’ve got ‘tantric love for dummies,’ ‘hydroponics digest,’ ‘the vagina monologues,’ ooo, just oodles of materials. so tell us about yourselves.”

Yep. If you are “colorblind” and judge people by their merits and call things simply as they are, you are racist.

I flipped onto left-wing radio on my XM receiver yesterday and heard some idiots ramble on about some “black women award” and thought… until all this crap stops (and I said crap) and people start acting like Americans, we’ll always be racially divided.

Lefties hate when you make the argument that a National Association for the Advancement of White People is racist but the NAACP is not. But it is true.

Should there be some kind of blanket group that addresses issues based on race/gender? Sure. I have no problem with that as there certainly are injustices. However, one-sided injustice and attacking people on perceived racial issues (like Jesse Jackson makes a living out of) only further divides.

No more black history month. No more NAACP. No more La Raza, etc. Until these organizations are in their graves, the hate will exist.

It just pisses me off that these sniveling do-gooder bleeding hearts hardly live in the real world with their crap. I suggest they move in to an inner city neighborhood with their mommy-daddy purchased prius and address “racial issues” personally.

An interviewer asked Morgan Freeman recently how to improve the racial situation in America.

He said, “Stop talking about it.”

When they tried to dig deeper, he said:

    “Just stop talking about it.”

I think the interviewer shut up about it at that point.

Congressman Suggests People Will Don ‘White Hoods’ If Wilson Not Rebuked
In an obvious reference to the Ku Klux Klan, Rep. 60 votes are required to end debate on a bill (otherwise known as cloture). If they can’t get 60 votes, the bill can be fillibustered indefinitely.

The reconciliation procedure Reid is threatening to use is intended for approval of conference committee reports, not new legislation.

House Parliamentarian John Sullivan agreed that the House’s rules on debate probably don’t apply to the incident. But he and others said the House has wide latitude in interpreting its general code of conduct that says “a lawmaker shall conduct himself at all times in a manner which shall reflect creditably on the House of Representatives.”

I guess that lying before a joint session counts as a lawmaker conducting himself at all times in a manner which shall reflect creditably on the House of Representatives?

If the democrats didn’t have the majority, I doubt anything would happen. There are democrats who believe this is extending Joe Wilson’s “15 minutes” also.

It is a sad state of affairs that probably 4-6 million bucks or more are going to be pissed away in a single election in South Carolina for a lousy seat in the HoR because of this stupidity.

Because it seems to me like the democrats would have no problems pushing that button.

60 votes is obviously what is needed to stop a filibuster. Using procedure to go around the filibustering could very well be used and the few cowardly democrats who feel voting on this bill just before the 2010 election cycle would sign on to this because they get what they want w/o having to vote for it.

Absolutely. None of this has any significance whatsoever. Even the censure resolution is meaningless. It carries no penalty. It’s basically an entry into the Congressional Record that says the Democrats (and I’d be willing to bet that’s exactly how the vote shakes out) didn’t like what Wilson said Wednesday night.

    Big friggin’ deal.

What does matter, however, is that Wilson was able to shame the Dems into adding an actual enforcement provision to the bill (although whether or not it remains in the final bill is anyone’s guess).

AND if the dems gets rid of 60 vote cloture, they will have demeaned the power of the senate and turned it into the equal of congress.

senators will lose some of their political power because now it takes 60 votes to get something to the floor. this way the political payoff is bigger if you are either side of it. if its a straight up-n-down, the payoff for and against will be less. because it will require less arm twisting to get things done.

Every one of these pro-Obamacare left wing outlets keep reporting polls show “the majority of Americans want health care reform”. Of course, this is lying by omission: Most Americans DO NOT want the kind of reform the democrats are proposing…but yes, they want reform.

The Republicans and Americans who fully understand the implications of enacting Obamacare have to battle against a democrat majority, an EXTREMELY biased media, and an uneducated (but steadily learning) public.

I doubt that reconciliation will be used.

First, there are questions about how much of the bill it could be used on as it applies to budget issues only.

Second, if it were used, all it takes to freeze Obama’s agenda in congress is one Republican asking for a floor reading of every bill every time any part of it comes up for discussion. Usually these are waived by unanimous consent, but they don’t have to be.

I’m sure this has been seriously discussed, but I’ll be surprised if it is actually used for this.
