They know a good thing when they see it. If the lefties actually get smart they’re going to start helping the Tea Party nuts.

Uh, he does not seem to grasp the fact that Dede was not even a RINO– she was a closet Dem as evidenced by her turning her back on all the legitimate GOP support she had garnered. This is not a GOP Civil War. But, if the GOP runs the tables tonight, it could be a Dem Civil war as many of them want to be still in office on the first Wednesday of next November. We might be shocked at how fast they move to the center because of tonight’s events.

If he IS dreaming, at least its not this nightmare we live in every day.

Even if the Dems lose all the local elections, it changes little in the balance in power. The Virgina race was lost weeks ago, NY 23 was a Republican seat, NJ has a crappy Dem Governor. The scary thing might be if the conservatives sweep them all, the loony right well take it as a sign they are on the correct path nationally.

Yes, it would be crazy to think that conservative Republicans winning in all these races implies that Republicans should run more conservatives. How cold anyone draw that conclusion?

An interesting thing that was brought up on Fox News I believe it was last night, that the dems have been able to push through a lot of controversial bills while everyone has been focusing on healthcare “reform.” Perhaps, by extending out the process, they think they can push more of the liberal agenda while they still can.

btw some of the loading is slow because of offsite choke points like
i2.ytimg.com and i3.ytimg.com (they’re something to do with google. I’m using Firefox and these sites slow down the loading of the page. so do twitter.com, facebook.com gravatar.com. someone needs to have DAVID do some speed tweaking when all the dust is settled.

I’ve said this before but maybe someone will see my point now. we need to have links up at the side or at the bottom that go to 1. the smilie site so that people can see what to do 2. a basic html entities list so that folks can see how to liven up their comment. 3. a list of no-no entities that won’t work.

Wows, congrats and thankyous all around.
    The Blogmocracy.
    Its VERY good.

    email paste:

Sometime later this year, we Taxpayers may again receive an Economic
Stimulus Payment. The Obama Administration is very excited about this new
program. Let me try to explain to you how it works using a simple Q and A
    format:

    Q. What is an Economic Stimulus payment?
    A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

    Q. Where will the government get this money?
    A. From taxpayers.

    Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
    A. Only a smidgen.

    Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
    A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition
TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

    Q. But isn’t that stimulating the economy of China ?
    A. Shut up.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the US economy by
    spending your stimulus check wisely:

If you spend the stimulus money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China .
If you spend it on gasoline, your money will go to the Arabs.
If you buy a computer, it will go to India .
If you buy fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico , Honduras and
    Guatemala.
If you buy a car, it will go to Japan or Korea .
If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan .
If you pay your credit cards off, or buy stock, it will go to management
bonuses and they will hide it offshore.

Instead, keep the money in America by:

1 Spending it at yard sales, or
2 Going to ball games, or
3 Spending it on prostitutes, or
    4 Beer or
    5 Tattoos.
These are the only American businesses still operating in the US .
    —————-
So, I’m going to go to a ball game and drink beer with a tattooed
prostitute that I met at a yard sale.

Holy smokes! I think I the GOP had something like a six seat majority in the Virginia Assembly before this election. I’m pretty sure it was a slim majority, anyway. From what the election board is reporting, it looks like that margin is going to be at least 21 now.
58 Repubs have won, 37 Dems, 2 independents, and 3 races are still undecided.

I know Barry and the DNC have no interest in this whatsoever, though. It’s just amusing trivia. In any case, I’m sure that if Obama himself had campaigned for all those little Dems, they would have won. Oh yes. Sure.

I have some reservations about McDonnell, but Christie seems like he should be good. He’s for alternative energy, doesn’t want to shove his beliefs about abortion down anyones throats, and has reasonable immigration stances too. He was the better candidate than Corzine, so I’m glad he won.

I don’t think this election has much in the way of national implications, other than the GOP is looking a little stronger or the dems a little weaker (not sure, probably the latter).

from the Hoffman war room re the other mccain

10:51 p.m.: Clinton County is more than 75% counted, and the numbers there project well for Hoffman. A campaign source just said, “We’re doing good in Oneida and St. Lawrence [counties], but we don’t know if that’s being reflect in the numbers” being reported on TV.

The top command of the Hoffman campaign is in a private banquet room dubbed “the war room,” where they are crunching the numbers precinct by precinct. It’s already been a longer night than most expected and guests at the party upstairs are getting restless.

Problems are reported with a total of 11 voting machines (4 in St. Lawrence County and 7 in Fulton County). With 63% of precincts reporting, Owens leads 49% to Hoffman’s 44%, a margin of about 3,400 votes, with 5% for Dede Scozzafava. Many military absentee ballots (Fort Drum is in the district) are yet to be counted.

The Hoffman race is still undecided, though it looks like Dede (ugh) may get enough votes (5% or so) to let Owens squeak by. If that happens, the GOP in NY-23 just needs to get its act together for 2010.

That New Jersey win is a big one, especially considering how much effort the DNC and Obama put into supporting Corzine.

The GOP swept all the major offices here in Virginia and greatly increased its majority in the state assembly.

  346. MightyConservative
    349 | November 3, 2009 20:47

Headed to bed but I wanted to drop a few things about the site:

    1. I will be developing some kind of ajax loader for new comments. This will take some time because I have to work for a living and I just dedicated a day and a half to getting this site where it is so it would be an enjoyable experience for people to use. Not sure when I will get this done but it is definitely something I want to do.

    2. I will be eliminating some queries where possible, this should help speed things up.

    3. I will be implementing a caching plugin to help speed the site up.

    4. The numbers on comments seem to be something people here want. This isn’t something that you commonly see on blogs at all, at least not the blogs I am used to reading and WordPress in general doesn’t really implement that kind of system. The previous theme was unusual in the fact that it did implement this so I’ll look and see what was done there. Again, I have to work for a living, so it will take time before I can get it implemented.

    5. I have already semi-developed a link-catcher for comments in a thread for “LinkViewer” functionality within a thread. However I think that the LinkViewer might be better served as a totally separate page where more detail can be entered about each link which would create greater value for them in the long run.

    6. I don’t know if anyone sees the usefulness of this but we could have a dedicated page where the headlines from popular blogs and news sites could be aggregated so that you could view them all on a single page here on the site … or in the sidebar, or wherever.

    7. I still have to flesh out this theme so that it is where it needs to be. The awards put a rush on this and normally I would have probably spent about another two to three weeks working on this so that it was much more complete. I was asked if I could put this live “as is” with the understanding that I would be working on it as we went along so I did my best to meet what was asked of me.

    8. Thanks to everyone who took the time to thank me – I am just glad I was able to wrap up the move in a single day!

Sorry for writing a book on this but I just wanted to communicate some things before I crashed. I may drop some comments over the next couple of days but as a freelancer I’ve got to get some paying work completed so it will be a few days before I get back to fleshing out things here.

Can’t wait to see the election results in the morning.

A musician gets home late from a gig to find a musician friend
of his in bed with his wife.

    He says:

“Hey man, what are you doing?

    The friend says:

“Aw, you know…just playing gigs and teaching a little”

We need to revamp our primary election rules all over the place. What I cannot fathom is why we allow Democrats to vote in some of our primaries, that’s how we got McCain in the last election. We don’t get to chose the Dem’s candidate. Why in the world would we even contemplate such a stupid policy? What the hell is the reasoning behind it?

There’s two voting reforms I see as needed.

The first is what you said: CLOSED Primaries. I live in NY, and all it means is you have to make a choice. It’s not that hard. When I first moved here back in ’81, I registered as Independent. When I went to vote in my first Democrat primary, I was told I couldn’t vote, as I wasn’t a registered Dem. Changed my party registration PDQ so I could vote in one party’s primary.

The second thing needed is having a picture ID to be able to vote, an ID which has an address matching the address in the voter book. States have non-driver ID’s for those who don’t drive, but really, most people must have a picture ID to use a credit card/cash a check or drive. To me, it’s no big deal. Getting to the DMV before an election is also not a big deal as it’s not like election dates are secret, or come up randomly out of the blue.

Oh, and a third one: Less absentee ballots. There should be absentee ballots for the military and the disabled, and maybe a few more limited cases. But let’s stop this absentee nonsense which only leads to voter fraud. If someone can’t drag their asses to a polling place once every two years within a 10 to 12 hour window, then they have no business voting in the first place.

A couple of points to note. First, this was the GOP’s night. There weree three major electionns to watch, plus some down-ballot positions of lesser importance. Of the thre major elections the GOP won two. In Virginia, they won by a huge (fraudproof) majority. Jersey was closer, but it is a blue, blue State and Corazine spent money by the bucket. Obama went all out for Corazine and it didn’t help him.

These two facts are huge, and are the defining elections. NY-23 is the third and we didn’t do quite so well. It was close. It was very close. Had Hoffman been nominated through the primary process it is likely he would have won. If you take Dede’s vote and add it to him, it is close but he wins. The pundits keep talking about how “strong” a Republican bastion this was, but if Scarfenswallow was the kind of Republica it takes to win it, then it seems a stretch to call it “solid Republican”.

The lesson on the Right from this is to attack early and often, get our people in the schute from the get-go, and win. Had Hoffman won the primary (he clearly would have won it had it been held) and had the GOP behind him for longer than the last 48 hours or so of the campaign it seems plausible, even likely, that he would have won. The GOP needs to remember this when they try to squeeze Right wing candidates off the playing field.

I keep saying it because the Republican “leadership” doesn’t seem to get it: you can’t win, can not win, without strong support from the base.

LGF, OTOH, has never been known for its ornate and moving architecture. It gets the job done (though it is a bandwidth hog), but it isn’t commercial grade artwork. That is just the way it is. CJ isn’t a graphic designer (at leeast I hope he isn’t trying to make a living as a graphic designer), he’s a coder. @ snork:

Yep. I know everyone is probably tired of hearing me harp on it, but I think it importantr. Distinguishing their brand from the Democrats is of paramount importance to the Republicans. If they can do it properly, it will greatly enhance their odds of winning. I have put forward the proposal that the Republicans become the defender, almost the missionary, for the Second Amendment. Get loud in their support for Heller and encouragement for the Supreme Court to find for gunowners’ civil rights in the next case that comes up next year, and repudiate the reprehensible US v. Cruikshank decision. That latter entails condemning the Ku Klux Klan’s efforts to disarm freed slaves so that it would be easier for them to be oppressed, abused, and even murdered.

Condemning the Klan should be one thing we can all agree on. I’d be most curious to see which way the Congressional Black Caucus would jump is the Republican’s entered a Bill condemning Cruikshank and legislatively applying the Second Amendment to the States. Done properly, it would be bleeding obvious that support for gun control was support for the Ku Klux Klan.

Now that is how you play hard-ball politics.

I can only hope and pray that in the elections next year, the Republicans in California take the Assembly and Senate somehow and under the Census figures, get to redraw the districts.

And I hope the GOP in NY kicks Schizofava straight out of the party. She’s a disgrace, and the NY-23 got what it asked for when they proferred her as the candidate without a primary. And yeah, Mr. Steele, time to clean house up there!
