    Where’s my supertanker photo?

  2. 2 | November 10, 2009 4:36 pm

This is by no means compulsory (of course) but right now an organization I am quite fond of (and which provides a lot of the content for the Friday Shabbat posts) is running their annual raffle campaign. The following is THEIR advertisement for it.

THIS ADVERTISEMENT IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE BLOGMOCRACY!

…Last year we awarded a lot of cash prizes. This year, like last year, the Grand Prize is set for $100,000.00! And the Second Prize is for $10,000.00.

Your chances of winning are really quite good, to say the least!

That’s because we will only be selling 5,000 tickets this year.

    That’s it!

    Click to make this happen

And we’ll be awarding 50 cash prizes!

That gives you an excellent chance of actually winning a cash prize! (1 out of 100)

At this point in time there are 1,800 somewhat tickets left.

And if you’ll stand behind us at this crucial time when we need your support most, then we should be able to successfully achieve our goal of selling the remaining 1,800 tickets before the Raffle deadline is over.

Not to mention that your support really matters to us!

That’s because we have to pay our people and cover our overhead to bring this engaging content to you, on a continuous basis.

    Click to make this happen

All you need to do to help out – is to simply click on the link below and order 1 or a few tickets. (The tickets are discounted when you buy them in quantity.)

    http://www.aish.com/raffle

Ok, now so where were we?….

Reposted from bottom of previous thread:

NPR was cooing all over the place about the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street today.

Here’s the thing, though; Sesame Street is supposed to be a means for inculcating literacy. It’s not. It doesn’t teach kids to read; it teaches them to watch TV. And the fast cutting and zip zap zoop stuff merely helps them develop a short attention span and an expectation that “education” = entertainment.

The most telling quote in the NPR feature was a CTW person saying that “the children are always right.” No, they’re not. They’re children. One of the problems with this country today is that the “children are always right” attitude has replaced recognition of the value of things like experience, and the knowledge that worthwhile things are not always easily acquired.

You don’t have to tell that to MY parents.

I employ teenagers for the most part and the lack of respect they have for older people (I mean like 35+) is amazing. I have to teach them they must give me respect or else. Not only am I twice their age, I am their boss. Its to the point now that all I have to do is give them “the look” and they snap out of their little attitudes real quick.

And “nothing is their fault” either. My last few years in the service was as an instructor at Sheppard. The military schools throw a lot of info at you and you are at least expected to do some studying on your own. I had an 18 y/o airman fail a test, and when I was counciling him to find out why, he explained “it was the 16th anniversary of his grandfathers death, so it really wasn’t his fault.”

And the Col. couldn’t figure out why I wanted to retire when I could have stayed another 2 years.

Or, in your case, on I-10 between La Place and Kenner.
    Up their medicine dosage.
Nod patiently and then start explaining how poisons work and how easy you have found it to slip them into people’s tea.

Sometimes, an extremist really is an extremist

    Excerpt:

A few months ago, an anti-Semitic old nut named James von Brunn allegedly took a gun to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum to get payback against “the Jews” and killed a black security guard in the process.

In response to this horrific crime, the leading lights of American liberalism knew who was to blame: Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and the GOP. One writer for the Huffington Post put it succinctly: “Thank you very much Karl Rove and your minions.”

The fact that Von Brunn was a 9/11 “truther” who railed against capitalism, neocons and the Bush administration didn’t matter. Nor did the glaring lack of evidence that Rove

et al ever showed antipathy for the museum. It was simply obvious that Von Brunn was the offspring of the “right-wing extremism [that] is being systematically fed by the conservative media and political establishment,” wrote columnist Paul Krugman.

If only Hasan was a fan of Glenn Beck!

    Well, given the importance of tomorrow;

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

I had/still do my company issued B!tchberry (I hate it). My Aunt and Hubby are my only “favs” and I have yet to use any minutes that are not covered. Hubby has the 700 min (family plan) all to himself and this month has already used over half of those! lol. Now, the internet side of it – I am greatful that it is unlimited. I surf all over with it – it is difficult to post (not impossible), but work has really tightened security and have blocked a lot of sites. My new G1 will get me anywhere I need/want to go!

I had a bad hunting experience a long time ago and just don’t get any pleasure out of it. It was a clean kill, but the doe still had her yearling with it and the yearling wouldn’t leave “mom” – stuck. Can’t do it. Dove, same thing, once I learned that they mate for life – nope. Good news??? Robo wants good news?My youngest son won a big deal (to them) physics contest at school. First freshman to win one of these contests ever. Destroyed–nay, pulverized!— the competition.

Of course, this will do nothing to make him popular; rather, it will undoubtedly solidify his reputation as a geeky nerd. This will add to his misery and possibly destroy any hope of happiness for the rest of his life. But we won’t mention that.

ha! acorn is back in the news again

    http://biggovernment.com/2009/11/10/exclusive-audio-from-acorn-claims-jerry-brown-will-whitewash-investigation/

On October 15th, local ACORN spokesman David Lagstein was the special guest of the East County Democrat Club in El Cajon, CA. Lagstein is ACORN’s chief organizer in the San Diego area. The meeting was held at Coco’s Restaurant, a very public venue. Because of ACORN’s close ties to the Democrat party, Mr. Lagstein clearly felt he was among friends. These two clips suggest the investigation of ACORN announced by California Attorney General Jerry Brown already has a pre-determined outcome

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/11/interview-with-the-president-jail-time-for-those-without-health-care-insurance.html

Interview with the President: Jail Time for Those without Health Care Insurance?

President Obama said that penalties are appropriate for people who try to “free ride” the health care system but stopped short of endorsing the threat of jail time for those who refuse to pay a fine for not having insurance.

  185. 186 | November 10, 2009 7:22 pm

Also found this at BigGovernment – UPS trying to crush and kill FedEx – always wondered why fedEx seemed more reliable than UPS

Why, of course not! Why should they think it’s a big question? The House and Senate won’t be facing jail time, or lousy insurance, or any of the pleasures they have reserved for us peasants.

  189. 190 | November 10, 2009 7:31 pm

I’ve always liked FedEx better. They are more reliable, dependable, cheaper. Now I see why. They aren’t unionized. Fuck that UPS. Never did like them. They have always acted as if they are doing you a favor. Crushed boxes. Leave notes without knocking on the door, don’t show up.
