Gaddafi hires 100 young women for lessons in Islam

LIBYAN leader Muammar Gaddafi is visiting Italy with a mission: to convert its young women to Islam.
[...]
”It is not true that Islam is against women,” he reportedly said, with the Libyan ambassador, an interpreter and two of his female bodyguards in military uniform at his side.

La Stampa reported that before offering each woman a copy of the Koran, Colonel Gaddafi shouted at them: ”Convert to Islam, Jesus was sent for the Hebrews, not for you. But Muhammed was sent for all humans.”

ANSA news agency quoted him as saying: ”You think that Jesus was crucified, but this is not true. God took him to heaven. They crucified someone who looked like him. The Jews tried to kill Jesus because they wanted to put the religion of Moses on the true path.”

Corriere della Sera said the the women were given copies of a book titled How to be Muslim.

Kossacks Hail KSM Civilian Trial…as a Weapon Against ‘BushCo’

Although many in the mainstream media write off the Democratic Underground as somewhat sanity challenged, they continue to praise the Daily Kos Kossacks as somehow being “reasonable progressives.” The truth is that the Kossacks are every bit as loony as their DU cousins as you can see in this Daily Kos thread about what they hope will be the real outcome of the civilian trial of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. As you will see, the conviction or acquittal of KSM is pretty much beside the point for most of the Kossacks. Their real hope for this trial is that they can use it as a weapon against what they call “BushCo.” which is also the desire of many others on the left along with their MSM allies.

Obama ‘Reaches Out’ by Naming ‘Devout’ Muslims to Security Posts (thanks to buzzsawmonkey for the link)

(IsraelNN.com) U.S. President Barack Obama continues to “reach out to Muslims” by appointing them to key security posts amid charges he wrongly ignored internal Muslim terror. One recent appointee was harshly criticized for appearing on a British-based television station whose host is a member of a radical Muslim group.

President Obama has continued to “reach out Muslims,” as he said in his keynote speech in Cairo last June, and this past week he swore in a Muslim rights advocate to the Homeland Security Advisory Council, shortly after the Fort Hood massacre. HSAC members are involved in expertise on national security.

Afghan asylum seeker wins right to stay in Britain after converting to Christianity

An Afghan asylum seeker who converted to Christianity after arriving in Britain has won the right to stay in the country because of fears he could be executed if returned home.

In a landmark case, the man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, used human rights rules to overturn a previous Home Office decision to refuse him asylum.

Lawyers said there were fears that, as an apostate – one who rejects the Muslim religion – the man, originally from Mazar-i-Sharif, but now living in Hounslow, west London, would face persecution, or even death, on his return.

Meet the Ex-Jihadis

Ever since I started meeting jihadis, I have been struck by one thing – their Britishness. I am from the East End of London, and at some point in the past decade I became used to hearing a hoarse and angry whisper of jihadism on the streets where I live. Bearded young men stand outside the library calling for “The Rule of God” and “Death to Democracy”.
[...]

The Muslims who arrive here every day from Bangladesh, or India, or Somalia say they find the presence of British Islamists bizarre. They have come here to work and raise their children in stability and escape people like them. No: these Islamists are British-born. They make up 7 per cent of the British Muslim population, according to a Populous poll (with the other 93 percent of Muslims disagreeing). Ever since the 7/7 suicide bombings, carried out by young Englishmen against London, the British have been squinting at this minority of the minority and trying to figure out how we incubated a very English jihadism.

But every attempt I have made up to now to get into their heads – including talking to Islamists for weeks at their most notorious London hub, Finsbury Park mosque, immediately after 9/11 – left me feeling like a journalistic failure. These young men speak to outsiders in a dense and impenetrable code of Koranic quotes and surly jibes at both the foreign policy crimes of our Government and the freedom of women and gays. Any attempt to dig into their psychology – to ask honestly how this swirl of thoughts led them to believe suicide bombing their own city is right – is always met with a resistant sneer, and yet more opaque recitations from the Koran. Their message is simple: we don’t do psychology or sociology. We do Allah, and Allah alone. Why do you have this particular reading of the Koran, when most Muslims don’t? Because we are right, and they are infidel. Full stop. It was an investigatory dead end.

93% disagreeing eh?

Taliban blow up girls’ school in Pakistan: officials

PESHAWAR, Pakistan : Taliban militants blew up a girls’ school in Pakistan’s Khyber district on Tuesday, the third such attack in the tribal region bordering Afghanistan so far this month, officials said.
[...]
Islamist militants have destroyed hundreds of schools, mostly for girls, in the northwest of the country in recent years.

Nearly 200 schools were destroyed in the Swat valley alone during a two-year Taliban uprising to enforce sharia law in a district once favoured by Western tourists for its ski slopes and mountain air.

French woman marries dead partner

A French woman whose fiance asked her to marry him two days before he was killed in a car crash has been granted a posthumous white wedding in their village.
[...]
Government figures show that posthumous weddings, although unusual, are not as rare as might be expected. Dozens are said to take place in France each year.

Americans will be reminded again of what the Bush administration’s reckless, immoral and counterproductive pro-torture policies have meant both for those we have detained and for our ability to prosecute them for their alleged crimes.

Beheadings, bombs on kids, planes as missiles and other various atrocities mean little compared to the response of Bush against devoted followers of a demon.

Africa agrees on secret climate damages demand

ADDIS ABABA, Nov 17 (Reuters) – African leaders agreed on Tuesday on how much cash to demand from the rich world to compensate for the impact of climate change on the continent but kept the figure secret ahead of next month’s Copenhagen talks.

The United Nations summit in Denmark will try to agree on how to counter climate change and come up with a post-Kyoto treaty protocol to curb emissions.

“We have set a minimum beyond which we will not go,” Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, who will represent Africa at the talks, told reporters. “But I am not in a position to tell you what that minimum figure will be.”

Hello everyone – just a quick drop in to give you this – picked it up on The Corner.

    http://prudentbear.com/index.php/thebearslairview?art_id=10309

The rise in the gold price above $1,100 per ounce last week is a pretty good indicator that something has changed. For 18 months, the gold price had been in a trading range topping out around $1,000. It has now broken out decisively from that range. The opportunity for the world’s central banks to change policy and affect the economic outcome has been lost. The world economy is now locked on to an undeviating track towards another train wreck.

    [ ]

At some point, probably before the end of 2010, the bubble will burst. The deflationary effect on the U.S. economy of $150 plus oil will overwhelm the modest forces of genuine economic expansion. The Treasury bond market will collapse, overwhelmed by the weight of deficit financing. Once again, the banking system will be in deep trouble
    [ ]
As I said, a train wreck. Probability of arrival: close to 100%. Time of arrival: around the end of 2010, or possibly a bit earlier. And at this stage, there’s very little anyone can do about it; the definitive rise of gold above $1,000 marked the point of no return.

sigh. try to have a good day

No doubt someone will suggest we pool all money in the world, funneled through the UN, then have it divvied out equally to everyone on earth.

I think she’ll be fine. She has her whole life ahead of her. The beautiful little boy and a family who loves her and will help her. She has no reason to be ashamed. She is a teenager who fell in love with a jerk. Very common. At some point, it is the jack ass ex-boyfriend who will have to own his own shameful conduct .

The difference is Bristol comes out of this with dignity and grace. She is trying to turn this experience into a “teachable moment” (to use the left’s favorite phrase) for teenage girls to see that actions do have consequences, and the experience Bristol had on the national stage brought out the ugly in the left, which may give them pause.

Levi, on the other hand, is a piece of crap who has been turned into the Hollywood flavor of the month because he bashes Sarah Palin to the Commie chorus that hates her so much (for what I have yet to figure out). So now he’s going to expose his only asset in Playgirl and be the darling of gay guys for a month until they move on to someone else. By Christmas, no one will be returning his phone calls, and he’ll be trying desperately to get his “fame” back and frankly the caravan will have moved on. Especially when the MSM realizes there’s no capital to be had in Sarah bashing. It doesn’t produce ratings.

Then he went right off the rails into some kind of populist-isolationist-kookoo land; from there he went completely into orbit, especially with his Chamberlainesque view that we could have gotten along with Hitler and that Winston Churchill was the villain of the piece.

And Clinton pardoned terrorists as a matter of law enforcement. Remember the FALN? I guess that was less law enforcement than political expediency. The Jerusalem municipal planning committee on Tuesday approved the construction of 900 new housing units in the city’s Gilo neighborhood.

The committee’s move comes in the wake of an expose Tuesday morning in the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Aharonot revealing that the U.S. has voiced objection to the expansion of Gilo, which is located beyond the Green Line.

The plan – named “Gilo’s western slopes” – will account for a significant expansion of the neighborhood. The planned 900 housing unites will be built in the form of 4-5 bedroom apartments, in an effort to lure relatively well-off residents.

I wouldn’t worry too much. It will all pass and in a few years Bristol will still have a beautiful child and supportive family.

She does speak from the heart. She speaks so honestly. It is very refreshing to have someone actually answer a question. LOL. And not double speak to confuse. I think Zero is terrified when the prompter goes off because he can’t speak from the heart and tells us what he really thinks and he can’t improvise because basic American values and traditions are completely alien to him. He must be getting an ulcer from the pressure to parse and spin his words. When he lets go what he really thinks, we get:
“punished with a child,” “spread the wealth around,” “typical white person,” “standing with Islam when an ill wind blows,” and the all the rest. This is him being truthful. The prompter stuff is gibberish.

your wife will worry every moment of every day while you are away. I am grateful for Mrs. Rightside, raising 3 children in my absence, and having to deal together with the loss of one of them.

I couldn’t have done it without her, and I was able to have a career because of her. They say the toughest job in the armed forces is being a (insert branch of service here) wife. It’s true.

She deserved every medal and ribbon I was awarded and more.

Yes it does. A life long friend of mine was addicted to meth. He was bitten 9 times by a black widow and rather than stay in the hospital to receive full antidote treatment he left the hospital for the love of smoking that shit and died a week later. It was ugly as he passed before my eyes. I just happened to be staying at his mom’s house right before I moved from Los Angeles so I had the unfortunate experience of witnessing his death.

And you’re right about the delusional mindbend that accompanies a meth addict. Cj certainly has those traits, but am in no way suggesting his clear insanity is caused by this.

I was going to make a smartass remark about how it’s not what it’ll cost you in dollars–whatever that might be–but what it’ll cost in terms of time taken up and loss of personal interaction if they start using it.

But that brings up an interesting question: is it better to be the one sane person in a crowd of lemmings, or is it “better” to be part of the herd? Miles, in the original “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” was trying to fight the pod people and retain his humanity, as he sees it—but his girlfriend, once she goes over, tells him how nice and peaceful it is on the other side.

Being the minority holdout against the rush of lemmings or Gadarene swine is always an uncomfortable place to be. It would be interesting to hear people’s thoughts on, or experiences of, being a holdout of sanity when surrounded by lockstep glazed-eyed believers in a totally antithetical way of life.

Most of those things are pseudoscience hysteria, as I’m sure you know.

But it’s a serious question. I’ve lived what I’m beginning to realize is a moderately long life (thus far), and managed to really blow it as far as fitting in with the prevailing herd mentality was concerned.

Not managing to fit in with the herd has its compensations; you see and learn things that you wouldn’t otherwise. But you always wonder whether the grass would really be greener if you were able to swill the Kool-Aid. Certainly being able to see that your neighbors, and sometimes family members and people you count as friends, are deluded is at least as uncomfortable as it is comforting to know that you can see something they can’t.

I’m just wondering how other people have dealt with this kind of thing in their lives—because you must admit that it can be exhausting at times to be surrounded by people who are peeping adulation of the current President like baby birds craning their beaks for Mama’s regurgitated worms.

Sarah Palin wants to take the her country back.

It was almost within her grasp. She could taste it already. God in his providence had reached down and plucked her from her lowly post in Alaska to lead the country back to purity. Sick Grandpa surely wouldn’t last a whole four years, and then she’d be in the catbitch seat.

But it all fell apart when that McCain staffer stopped her from going rouge. Bald devil! Her girlish dreams were dashed.

Now she’s found the Other McCain, a good friend who has a lot more in mind when he talks about taking back the country. Together they’ll take it back to a time when people knew their places, when a man could beat and rape and beat his black slave-girl to his heart’s content. To a time when Hockey Mom was a woman’s proudest boast – unless ’twere Madam President. To a time when drunks shooting wolves from helicopters was seen as the manly sport it is.

an XBox is just a gaming unit…my son has 2 Xboxes. One is the Elite version that came with the new Modern Warfare, and the second is the older “original” version. The original version is $199, but you’d have to pay extra for the capability to go wireless on it and play XBox live. You can get refurbished ones for about $150. The only plus side for you is that you would be able to watch Netflix instantly if you had one!

To take but one example of many, we have one TV in the house. If it weren’t for sports, we wouldn’t even have that. To say that we restrict the kids’ TV viewing would be putting it mildly. Basically they are TV-free before age 13 or so. Then they go to high school and the poor freaks have no idea what the kids are talking about.

One computer for the kids in a common room. No I-pods!

I won’t even mention the old-fashioned, Euro-centric education they get at home (K-8) and the cultural disconnect that produces.

    Interesting.

When we lived overseas in the early ’60s, we had no TV. TV was something you went to a friend’s house to watch, maybe twice a week for half an hour or an hour. The rest of the time, you did stuff. When we got back to the States, our TV watching was quite restricted, which was not unheard of but not wholly common either.

You lose a lot of cultural references that way, but you learn a whole hell of a lot of other things.

We, as parents, can only guide them to have a moral compass, which I believe is more important than even being educated. Whether they become exposed to MTV, iPod’s, Gaming Units, etc. wouldn’t have a bearing on their morality, if your goal is to simply raise good, conscientious children — which it sounds like you’ve already done! :)

Since we are talking kids, let me make a reccommendation, too. Get your kids in a good martial arts school starting about age 6. You will be glad you did. At that age the style is pretty unimportant. You can’t teach a 6 year old real karate, but you can teach them discipline and structure in something that is “cool”. The difference between students at the dojo and regular kids is amazing. They had me judge a kids tournament years ago (one of maybe ten or fifteen judges; it was no buig deal, but as close to the kids as I wanted to get. Kids are icky! They are like people, only little), and seeing a room full of kids sitting politely while watching their compatriots do kata, well, it was something. Almost made me want one of the little monsters…

The reality is that when Bush (and other leaders) were strong with the Middle East peace was closer than ever. Obowma’s constant appeasement and weakness however has turned medium enemies like Syria to be even more brash in their threats, and calls for War.

We need a different way forward. Is there a better time for real socialism than right now?

Join students, workers, activists and others on Saturday, Nov. 21 in Los Angeles for a Socialism Conference hosted by ANSWER Coalition member group, the Party for Socialism and Liberation. The keynote speaker will be ANSWER Coalition’s National Coordinator, Brian Becker. Find out what socialism really is and why it is the only answer to the misery created by capitalism.

A Day of Guest Speakers, Workshops, Discussion & Entertainment

Capitalism is a criminal system–it must go. The U.S. government is greasing the system’s wheels to ensure that banks and big corporations take trillions, while millions lose their jobs and homes in California and the rest of the U.S. Deep cuts are gutting public education, making health care less accessible and decimating nearly all social programs. Unemployment in LA is 20 percent! More racist cops are on the streets, and business for the military- and prison-industrial complexes is booming. Workers and students are being hit from all sides.

The Nov. 21 conference will link the struggles against war and militarism with the fight for economic justice. This conference will be an important opportunity for political activists to meet, analyze, discuss and propose solutions. A radical reorganization of society is necessary to meet the needs of the people rather than to maximize the profits of bankers and corporate executives, who have driven society onto the path of endless war and economic suffering. Join the struggle for socialism!

There will be speakers, workshops and discussion. Special workshops will be led by Students Fight Back and UTLA union teachers, by March Forward! anti-war veterans, by LGBT leaders, immigrant rights movement leaders and others.

    Socialism Confernce Topics Include

    * What is socialism? Is it possible in the U.S.?
    * Fight the capitalists’ anti-worker agenda
    * Is a revolutionary party necessary for working class victory?
    * Stop police brutality and racist oppression
    * Health care for all, not for profit
    * Fight layoffs, evictions, foreclosures, education cuts and union busting
    * Stop imperialist war, racism, sexism and homophobia
    * Prop. 8: What can defeat anti-LGBT bigotry?
    * Win full rights for all immigrants
    * Students, teachers fight for education rights
    * Socialism in Cuba and Latin American revolution

    The time will come…

We were in slow-moving traffic the other day after church
and the car in front of us had an Obama bumper sticker on it.
It read: “Pray for Obama. Psalm 109:8″.

My husband’s Bible was lying on the dash board
& he got it & opened it up to the scripture & read it.
    He started laughing & laughing.
Then he read it to me.
I couldn’t believe what it said.

Unreal: SEIU Considering Legal Action Against City For Allowing Eagle Scout to Clear Walking Path, “No One Except a Union Worker Can Pick Up a Shovel”….

In pursuit of an Eagle Scout badge, Kevin Anderson, 17, has toiled for more than 200 hours hours over several weeks to clear a walking path in an east Allentown park.

Little did the do-gooder know that his altruistic act would put him in the cross hairs of the city’s largest municipal union.

Nick Balzano, president of the local Service Employees International Union, told Allentown City Council Tuesday that the union is considering filing a grievance against the city for allowing Anderson to clear a 1,000-foot walking and biking path at Kimmets Lock Park.

“We’ll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails,” Balzano told the council.

Balzano said Saturday he isn’t targeting Boy Scouts. But given the city’s decision in July to lay off 39 SEIU members, Balzano said “there’s to be no volunteers.” No one except union members may pick up a hoe or shovel, plant a flower or clear a walking path.

You need to find and watch the 1960 British film “I’m All Right, Jack,” starring Peter Sellers, Terry-Thomas, and Richard Attenborough. Hilarious.

Sellers’ Communist shop steward is a hoot. He and the Works Committee are objecting to the hiring of the feckless hero of the film, on the grounds that he is “not a worker.” The personnel manager (Terry-Thomas) says, “Well, you said he was incompetent; I’ll sack him.” Sellers and the Works Committee object—can’t dismiss a man merely on grounds of incompetence—and the man is re-hired.

    You’ll love it.

Critics See Health Care Rationing Behind New Mammography Recommendations

Well the Govt really is at cross purposes here. I have some experiences with cancer as my wife is being treated for stage 3C ovarian now.

Think about this, currently, due to yearly mammograms, a large percentage of breast cancer are found in stage 1 and treated without chemo or radiation. Although there is also a slightly larger amount of mis-diagnosis of Fibroids at this early stage.

By moving mammograms to every other year vice yearly, you will cut down on the mis diagnosis. However, the percentage of cancer found will jump dramaticly from stage 1 to stage II, requiring much more costly treatment and costing lives. Thats why the ACS is against it.

Early detection saves lives. Thats the bottom line. Unless you’re a government budget hack.

EPA Employees Silenced for Criticizing Cap and Trade

When Zabel and Williams released a video on the Internet expressing their concerns over the Obama administration’s plans to use a cap and trade program to fight climate change, they were told to keep it to themselves.

Laurie Williams and husband Alan Zabel worked for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for more than 20 years, and they know more about climate change than most politicians. But when the couple released a video on the Internet expressing their concerns over the Obama administration’s plans to use cap-and-trade legislation to fight climate change, they were told to keep it to themselves.

Williams and Zabel oppose cap and trade –– a controversial government allowance program in which companies are issued emissions limits, or caps, which they can then trade –– as a means to fight climate change.

On their own time, Williams and Zabel made a video expressing these opinions.

VIDEO: EPA Employees Speak Out Against Cap and Trade

“Cap-and-trade with offsets provides a false sense of progress and puts money in the pockets of investors,” Zabel said in the video. “We think that these restrictions might not be constitutional,” he said.

Their bosses in San Francisco approved the effort by Williams and Zabel to release the tape, but after an editorial they wrote appeared in the Washington Post, EPA Director Lisa Jackson ordered the pair to remove the video or face disciplinary action.

Specifically, the administration’s chief environmental official did not want Williams or Zabel mentioning their four decades with the EPA –– time spent studying cap and trade.

“The people who understand the problems with the cap and trade with offsets bill are not being heard,” Williams told Fox News.

The EPA issued a statement saying it welcomes free expression provided employees adhere to ethics rules. The agency reportedly doesn’t object to the content of the video but requires Williams and Zabel to make it clearer that they are speaking for themselves and not the EPA.

But some Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee want an investigation into what – if any –– regulations Zabel and Williams violated.

Critics argue the action contradicts the president’s support for open government.

“It’s censorship,” Jeff Ruch, Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility, told Fox News.

“If the Obama administration believes in transparency it is precisely in these cases they need to prove it.”

Flu-like symptoms and dead in 24 hours? I would not be surprised if it was bacterial meningitis. That happened to someone I worked with – day before Thanksgiving she was feeling fluey and her family took her to the hospital and she died within 12 hours of admission.

I loved that show – Remote Control was one of my “must sees” every day. And I didn’t even LIKE MTV.

I agree. Why would a gov’t task force be set up to study this? They are testing the water to see how the public will react. If there is little blowback, there will be other “findings” that suggest that certain

Rush was speculating the other day that the whole “Stimulus” was nothing more than a big slush fund for payouts, since only 14% of it has supposedly been spent. Look for it to funnel its way to Democrat candidates next year.

The fact that these funds are being spent in Europe and China is very ominous. What is surprising is the way the MSM is reporting the LIES that are being promulgated by this White House with respect to the supposed “saved” jobs credited to Porkulus. I think the White House said there were something like 350 “saved” jobs in the 9th Arizona Congressional district; there’s only one problem. Arizona only has 8 Congressional districts. Guess Zero didn’t think anyone would check up on him.

“Sinister” is the opposite of “dexter”; “left” and “right.”

Dexter is, of course, the root for words such as “dexterity” (skill). The term “bar sinister” (left-hand bar) was the symbol used on his shield by an out-of-wedlock child sired by a nobleman, and so denotes bastardy. If you read Edgar’s rants about bastardy in “King Lear,” you realize that all manner of evil things were attributed to children born outside of a consecrated union, and so the “bar sinister” came to denote something, and someone, evil.

I gind it amazing that the same Congress who was ready to hang the Bush Administration in general and Alberto Gonzalez in particular out to dry because 8 prosecutors were fired apparently has no problem with out and out falsehoods and misinformation being put forth by this White House, with its marxist/socialist/communist policy makers, and has not called for an investigation regarding the fact that these “saved” jobs are out and out fabrications on the part of the White House.

Remind us again, Nancy and Harry, how this was going to be such an HONEST and OPEN and TRANSPARENT government starting in January 2009. Schmucks – all of you. You rape the American economy and dance the smba while you’re doing it.

I can’t answer that, but if you’ve seen Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn in “The Philadelphia Story,” Grant’s character is named “C.K. Dexter Haven” (“seek a dexter [right] haven [harbor]“)—and, of course, there’s a lot of talk about their old yacht, the “True Love,” from their previous marriage.

In other words, Hepburn has to realize that Grant is Mr. Right, and seek the “dexter” haven of his arms to come safely into port.

Hey! Deride thee not the sweet science.
With the exception of the nuts all those targets are common in a boxing match. In a street fight all’s fair. Unconsciousness is the most disabling injury in a fight. The quickest delivery of that injury comes from a straight right (or sinister left).
Its all about training and willingness, whatever the discipline.
    And as my uncle the state champ welterweight said;
“All other things being equal, there is no match for size.”

This is something that I have struggled with in raising the kids.
I’m telling you, they are being raised by wolves!
In all seriousness, it is one thing to be a freak yourself. It is much more difficult to raise a kid the way you think best and know that there will be a price they will have to pay.

This is true. Its a hard thing to balance. I homeschooled three of mine and spent a couple years homeschooling the grandchildren…and they are a little out of the stream when they hit school. I can’t help but think they do ok though. Better to be a thinking being even if it hurts.
