Guest Post by the inimitable ‘snork’

It’s been a week since the big data drop of the inner workings of the global warming industry, and here’s a recap of the best of web:

First the funny: Iowahawk Geographic: The Secret Life of Climate Researchers

And then there’s this:

And then the serious.

By far, the best digest of the emails was written by Willis Eschenbach, a cowboy scientist who had his own tangles with Jones and crew, and was able to put a lot of useful context between the emails to tell a coherent story here.

If you can read and follow all of that (it’s quite long), you can get a sense of what they knew, and when they knew it™.

Here’s another summary that, despite the host’s satanic connections rigorously documented at 1.0, I can’t find any flaws with:

Anyway, feces are hitting the ventilators on both sides of the Atlantic. In the UK, where the deed was done, we have Lord Lawson wanting an investigation. In the US, as I predicted, Sen. Inhofe (R-OK) is also demanding hearings (seeing as the US government funded much of Jones’ research, and a lot of the suspected criminal activity involved the American Michael Mann (of Penn State, soon to be of the state pen)). In an unexpected twist, in the house, Rep. Darryl Issa (R-CA) also wants hearings into the role of John Holdren, who was implicated in some of the emails (yes; that John Holdren, featured on Zombietime).

In another development, CEI Files Notice of Intent to Sue NASA over a refusal to honor a FOIA request. Interesting timing, huh?

The American MSM has been trying to ignore the story, without much luck. It keeps popping up on those unauthorized right-wing news outlets like Fox News and the Washington Times, and WSJ whacks hard here. NYT, of course, lames out here. Hilariously, they won’t link the emails because they claim that it’s NYT policy not to print stolen material. Right. It’s been getting more play in the European MSM, particularly, as you would expect, in Great Britain.

A curious side story is that LGF 1.0′s favorite source for GW talking points, Realclimate.org, was also involved in this incident. Realclimate.org is owned and operated by the Environmental Defense Fund, and funded by the Tides Foundation, and purports to be an objective science site, but is in reality a political propaganda site. Shortly after the file was “hacked” from CRU’s server, someone took control of Realclimate’s server according to Gavin Schmidt of Realclimate, uploaded the zip file, and there were four downloads from it before they were able to regain control of their server. Seems like Gavin’s got his hands full between this and the lawsuit.

What was that that Nelson Muntz used to say?

There’s much, much more. Too much. There are a lot of good sources if you want to follow this; my recommendation is Watts Up With that?, but there are many other excellent ones as well.

Heh, Hiding the Decline is on my facebook.

The great thing about Global Warming is that in 25 years or so, possibly much less, we’ll be able to find out for sure one way or another. I’m happy to stake my credibility on “Not an apocalypse, idjits” and even “Not a huge problem.”

The downside is that lefty media will of course have no clue what we are talking about, no one was ever worried about that whole global warming thing, and after all, they said it was just a theory, didn’t they? The real scientists were warning us about the mutant space monkey overlords all along, etc., etc.

Well, you’re just a silly person. Here:

Yeah…”peer reviewed, no shit data” from the same people who were just caught cooking their data and rigging the peer review process.

That’s why I thought this bit from the current 1.0 post was so funny:

And Farah’s bad craziness is endorsed and supported by top GOP politicians. The Republican National Committee even advertises at Farah’s insane website.

If the fact that there’s an RNC ad on the WND site means they “endorse and support” WND, I guess the fact that LGF has an ad for Sarah Palin’s book means Chuckles “endorses and supports” her.

    Doesn’t it?

    32 | November 25, 2009 1:17 am

    @snork

    Thanks for the posting.

Yesterday I linked to a paper from the other side the “Copenhagen Diagnosis” and was baffled about this:

Surging greenhouse gas emissions: Global carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels in 2008 were nearly 40% higher than those in 1990. Even if global emission rates are stabilized at present –day levels, just 20 more years of emissions would give a 25% probability that warming exceeds 2oC. Even with zero emissions after 2030. Every year of delayed action increase the chances of exceeding 2oC warming.

Now I had a closer look at the paper (unfortunately not close enough only spot tests) and stumpled about this:

Antarctica is also losing ice mass at an increasing rate, mostly from the West Antarctic ice sheet due to increased ice flow. Antarctica is currently contributing to sea level rise at a rate nearly equal to Greenland.

But one of the authors – Ian Allison is leader of the Ice Ocean Atmosphere and Climate program in the Australian Antarctic Division, a Lead Author of the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report and the President of the International Association of Cryospheric Sciences – told an Australian newspaper this year:

Australian Antarctic Division glaciology program head Ian Allison said
sea ice losses in west Antarctica over the past 30 years had been more
than offset by increases in the Ross Sea region, just one sector of east
    Antarctica.

“Sea ice conditions have remained stable in Antarctica generally,” Dr
    Allison said.

And the newsletter of the “Australian Institute of Geoscientists”, No 97, August 2009, writes about Greenland:

    quote:

Global warming alarmists have suggested that the ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica may collapse, causing disastrous sea level rise. This idea is based on the concept of an ice sheet sliding down an inclined plane on a base lubricated by meltwater, which is itself increasing because of global warming. In reality the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets occupy deep basins, and cannot slide down a plane. Furthermore glacial flow depends on stress (including the important yield stress) as well as temperature, and much of the ice sheets are well below melting point. The accumulation of kilometres of undisturbed ice in cores in Greenland and Antarctica (the same ones that are sometimes used to fuel ideas of global warming) show hundreds of thousands of years of accumulation with no melting or flow. Except around the edges, ice sheets flow at the base, and depend on geothermal heat, not the climate at the surface. It is impossible for the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets to ‘collapse’.

    Conclusion

The global warming doomsday writers claim the ice sheets are melting catastrophically, and will cause a sudden rise in sea level of many metres. This ignores the mechanism of glacier flow which is by creep: glaciers are not melting from the surface down, nor are they sliding down an inclined plane lubricated by meltwater. The existence of ice over 3 km thick preserving details of past snowfall and atmospheres, used to decipher past temperature and CO2 levels, shows that the ice sheets have accumulated for hundreds of thousands of years without melting. Variations in melting around the edges of ice sheets are no indication that they are collapsing. Indeed ‘collapse’ is impossible.

So ‘The Copenhagen Diagnosis”-peaper is sheer scare mongering and sh*t. Who paid for it?

    But there is more:

Have a look at the last point of the summary where they write:

The turning point must come soon: If global warming is to be limited to a maximum of 2°C above pre-industrial values, global emissions need to peak between 2015 and 2020 and then decline rapidly. To stabilize climate, a decarbonized global society – with near-zero emissions of CO2 and other long-lived greenhouse gases – need to be reached well within this century. More specifically, the average annual per-capita emissions will have to shrink to well under 1 metric ton CO2 by 2050. This is 80-90% below the per-capita emissions in developed nations in 2000.

How can this be achieved without killing more than half of the population, stopping producing anything and going back to the stone age ?

I’m more than happy this ‘AGW’ BS is being debunked, but I don’t think it’ll stop the hysteria in the long run.

And as much as I disbelieve there is anything to AGW, I’m all for continuing to work to clean up land, air & water. No matter how ‘anti-environment’ leftists think Conservatives are, or at least claim to think we are, nobody can really be for filthy and water.

The solution, though, isn’t to slow economic growth, force us into cars like the ‘Smart’ car or something that, at this point, you need to recharge every 50 miles or so, to set our thermostats at 90 degrees, and to take huge amounts of land and convert them to wind & solar farms.

The solution is, as it often is, to let the free market take charge. Let private enterprise develop, for example, practical alternate fuel cars that people will actually WANT to buy and, until they’re available, we need to drill here, and drill here NOW.

Wind & solar power are great, but they’ll never take care of our baseload power needs. Sure, they might help take care of peak power, but we need nuclear power.

Do I want to be force to buy CFC bulbs? No. Would I buy something other than the ‘traditional’ bulb if it worked as well, and for the same price? Probably so. But again, it’s not Uncle Sam’s job to force me to buy a product.

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

Best guess at unoffical meetings they will set up via cell phone and text messages.

You know, after reading the information about Maurice Strong, a major UN creep, and that he started all the earth day worship gia BS – well, during the election I posted some links about this at CJ’s site and several people attacked me for simply offering links to information.

The information is, is that the New Age movement was in fact started by the UN, via people such as Alice Bailey and other spiritualists of the time. They had a group known as the Lucifer Society, which was changed to the Lucious (?) something-er-other and that group merged with the UN. If you go to the findhorn site you will see that they are part of the UN.

People like walter and i think sharm and a few others, pounced on me because the the UN homepage didn’t have all those links.

Peer-review in the “scientific” community is no different than peer review in the “artistic” community. Heard a good turkey recipe I might try {I’d brined a bird last year…}: one part dijon mustard, one part bourbon, one part brown sugar. Take mixture and place under breast skin…makes a very tender bird at 325 degrees. Leave half mixture for basting. But if we have to Mirandize them and treat them nicely and not interrogate them (as the Obama Administration signals with the transfer of KSM to criminal justice), then there is no point to leaving even them alive. Certainly this loser isn’t likely to have such information. He’s no “mastermind” of anything, just a geek who killed some people with a roadside bomb and then desecrated their bodies. Science frauds may face criminal charges?

For some time the main publication of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Science Magazine, has effectively banned any papers that dissent with the global warming orthodoxy.

Apparently there are some alarm bells ringing over at Science’s offices. In a breaking news post, they are contemplating criminal liability for the Scientists involved in this scandal.

Also thanks to WattsUpWithThat, CO2 comment deadline for cars and light trucks is FRIDAY.

    Get your comments in here.

    I submitted this:

CO2 is not a pollutant. Rather, CO2 is a naturally occurring gas. We, and all animals, exhale CO2. If you regulate it, you are literally regulating whether I can breathe or not. If that’s not totalitarianism, I don’t know what is. The Federal Government doesn’t have the right to regulate what I exhale. Nope, not in the Constitution anyplace!

Furthermore, all this climate hysteria is a result of the likes of Micheal Mann and Phil Jones who have been exposed as frauds who did not follow the Scientific Method even remotely. They are also exposed as likely criminals in at least 2 countries by colluding to avoid/deny/delay Freedom of Information Requests in the USA and the UK. That is criminal and they cannot be trusted!

However it’s split into three camps. Those who don’t give a shit. Those who don’t believe that it’s man made, and therefor natural, and those that believe that mankind is the earths doom.

New Documentary Challenges Gore’s ‘Inconvenient Truth’ on Global Warming

Buoyed by the ruling, two Irish journalists — Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney — released a documentary in which they gather evidence outlining the damage of global warming hysteria. In “Not Evil Just Wrong,” they challenge the claims made in Gore’s film and conclude that the film is not worth screening in schools because it is shown there as “an article of science, not faith.”
