Che Guevara: Progressive Killer

by Rodan ( 246 Comments › )
Filed under Communism, Progressives at December 3rd, 2009 - 9:46 pm

Ernesto Che Guevara is admired by the Progressives all over the world. They have turned him into a icon. He is nothing but a killer and a loser. He was an Argentine reject who went to Cuba to buddy up with the Castro brothers. After the revolution, he had many killed without mercy. He was no hero but a thug.

Che-mao

HOLLYWOOD history is often nonsensical, but film-makers usually have the good sense not to whitewash killers and sadists. Steven Soderbergh’s new film about Che Guevara, however, does that, and more.

Che the revolutionary romantic, as depicted by Benecio del Toro in Soderbergh’s film, never existed. That hero of the Left, with his hippie hair and beard, an image now iconic on T-shirts and coffee mugs around the world, is a myth concocted by Fidel Castro’s propagandists – something of a cross between Don Quixote and Robin Hood.

He was also a failure. He didn’t succeed in the Congo and suffered the best outcome for any Progressive thug. He went to Bolivia and tried to start revolution there. The Bolivian people didn’t fall for his Hope and Change lie and the result was he got the fate he deserved.

Dead Che

My question is why do Progressives admire this loser?

They admire him because, like him, they are losers, however, unlike them, he murdered a bunch of people, something a lot of our proggies are still too chicken to do (not for the lack of desire, though!) So, they have their little juvenile fantasies of revenge against the “unfair” world projected onto him.

Same exact reason why they get all tingly about jihadi terrorists.

    ahhh the congo:

from warren zevon’s ‘roland the headless thompson gunner’

Roland was a warrior from the Land of the Midnight Sun
With a Thompson gun for hire, fighting to be done
The deal was made in Denmark on a dark and stormy day
So he set out for Biafra to join the bloody fray

Through sixty-six and seven they fought the Congo war
Fingers on their triggers, knee-deep in gore
For days and nights they battled the Bantu to their knees
They killed to earn their living and to help out the Congolese

    Roland the Thompson gunner…

His comrades fought beside him -- Van Owen and the rest
But of all the Thompson gunners Roland was the best
So the CIA decided they wanted Roland dead
That son-of-a-bitch Van Owen blew off Roland’s head

Roland the headless Thompson gunner (Time, time, time
    For another peaceful war
Norway’s bravest son But time stands still for Roland
‘Til he evens up the score)
They can still see his headless body stalking through the night
In the muzzle flash of Roland’s Thompson gun
In the muzzle flash of Roland’s Thompson gun

Roland searched the continent for the man who’d done him in
He found him in Mombassa in a barroom drinking gin
Roland aimed his Thompson gun -- he didn’t say a word
But he blew Van Owen’s body from there to Johannesburg

    Roland the headless Thompson gunner…

The eternal Thompson gunner, still wandering through the night
Now it’s ten years later but he still keeps up the fight
In Ireland, in Lebanon, in Palestine and Berkeley
Patty Hearst heard the burst of Roland’s Thompson gun
    And bought it

Progressives are really losers and cowards. This was one savage asshole and they love this man. The only reason the Progressives disown Hitler was because he betrayed his Socialist brother Stalin.

Dang. I can’t find the link, but I read somewhere in the last couple of days —-could even be here!— that Poland has outlawed the sale of Che shirts.

Well, if you are going to have laws restricting the display of Nazi paraphernalia, as Poland does, you should be consistent and have laws against Communist stuff, too, which Poland does. So I applaud them for including the Che shirts in the ban.

It might educate a few people, anyway.

  50. wolfie

    @ Rodan:

He was a Romantic hero, the Great Motorcycle Hippie. Being completely ignorant of Argentina, whose population is more uniformly European in origin than our own, they fancied him as a 3rd world “noble savage” fighting against white capitalist hegemony.

At the same time, he was very like most of the lefty boomers themselves, a white bourgeois kid who went to college and then rebelled against the Establishment.

I agree with teacake that his violence gave the lefties a vicarious thrill.

If I made a movie about Che, I would be sure to show him late in life, strutting around terrorizing the Bolivian campesinos, and then grovelling and whimpering for mercy like a scared baby when the Bolivian army caught him. The fact is, he died like a coward….and the Bolivians danced in the street when he did.

You nailed it. One of my loves when I was young was Argentine-Lebanese. My hood back in the 80′s/90′s had Argentine Italians. See with Latin America, even if the people are not 100% Biologically European, they are 100% European by Culture. Many Americans really can’t grasp it’s about culture, not race.

    65 | December 3, 2009 11:24 pm

    @ Rodan:
    Okay, here goes:

First some bona fides: I spent a few years in the late 60′s and early 70′s around/with assorted leftists/communists/radicals and other college rabble rousers in New Haven CT. I was myself, for a time, of a similar mindset. Like them, I mentally styled myself as an anti-establishment rebel/freedom fighter just one or two steps away from acting against the government and ending the rule of the ‘imperialist’ government of the U.S. (picture visions of black-clad, camo wearing guerillas fighting in the streets of american cities in a valiant effort to prevent the further enslavement of the people by the capitalist running dogs of Wall Street and D.C.) Think Walter Mitty-like daydreams of glory and bravery and at the end a cheering populace, grateful for your sacrifices, willing to let YOU govern them since you had shown how self-less, wise and strong you were.

    (pause while everyone stops giggling)

This ‘internal video’ wasn’t just playing in MY head. It was one that WAS actually acted on by a few in the SDS and the WU. (to their regret). We grew up watching Fidel et al battling it out with the forces of Batista in Cuba with the ultimate outcome as you know. We didn’t know much of the understory and the Media wasn’t telling the entire OVER story to the full extent either. What we saw was a young idealistic college student return to his country to take it away from a Dictator oppressing his people (supported by our own totalitarian imperialists). It was VERY ROMANTIC (not in the gushy way) and he actually succeeded. (it reminded us of what we were taught about OUR forefathers and their rebellion).

That he almost immediately spit in the U.S.’s face and embraced Russian Communism was only a little bothersome. (hey, he knew that the U.S. wanted to put Batista or some other Dictator back in and where else could he go for help?) And the killings and beatings, Well they were Batista sycophants and anti-revolutionaries plus the media was probably exaggerating anyway. Even the Missile crisis wasn’t unexpected (hey we tried to take it all back at the Bay of Pigs, Right?)

All the while, Che Guevara was prancing around Central and South America spreading the gospel according to Fidel (with lots of Rubles to help). We all thought the whole hemisphere would go communist in a few years and the U.S. would be forced to enact anti-capitalist measures that would allow the little people to live well and not be the ‘wage slaves’ of the wealthy and the unicorns and fairies would dance around the rainbows. (spit)

When they Killed Che, it was the end of that dream. It was a cold bucket of water, reminding us all that sometimes the Righteous don’t win and win you play the revolutionist game, when you lose you die. (remember this is the viewpoint I and others had at the time.)

So Che’ is like the communist Jesus. We believed in him and they killed him and forever we would honor his name. It doesn’t matter that he was an asthmatic who, as far as I know, never fought any battles. It doesn’t matter that he represented a totalitarian regime that has enslaved and impoverished their own people in the name of ‘equality’ and ‘justice’. It doesn’t matter that he was trying to bring bloodshed and destruction to the little countries struggling in the Americas. It only matters that HE WAS A REVOLUTIONARY ICON. The left, in America, worships the idea of armed struggle because they’ve never had to actually DO IT. They’re in love with the IDEA of REVOLUTION and SOCIAL EQUALITY. Which is why they elected Obama and why they think Socialism or Communism will bring peace and happiness despite all the evidence to the contrary.

I guarantee you that every Che` worshiper harbors an inner vision of themselves liberating their fellow workers and being praised and elevated to a position of authority due to their sacrifice and dedication to the ideals of REVOLUTION!!!

And we all know how they’ll govern, don’t we?

PS. now doesn’t this give some insight into charles johnson?
I guarantee, he fancies himself some kind of ‘savior’/shepherd of the ‘people’ and he gets angry and feels hurt and unappreciated when he doesn’t get the adulation and adoration from his followers.

    @ Rodan:
    don’t think that just because the media/hollywood continue to press this perception upon you that it’s true. You need to spend some time in ‘flyover’ country where the exact opposite of what the media presents as the ‘norm’. Despite the constant drumbeat of counter opinion by various media outlets, the people of the U.S. are still basically;
    conservative
    god fearing
    honest
    truthful
    courageous
    loving
    generous
    hard working
    patient
    without prejudice

    Well done,

It captures the spirit of those liberated and progressive time & place. My father was asked to fly for the Biafran and Katangese Air Forces, he told ‘em to bugger off, he had done enough of that for the RAF in WW2. Is that your own composition?

My progressive credentials took a severe knock at University, when I was asked why I was not attending the rally to commemorate Che’s birthday. I replied that the best thing about him was the CIA supplied Bolivian Army bullets currently lodged in his skeleton. Certain liberty and equality types had the audacity to publicly wonder whether I was a fascist or not.

Somalia has always been anarchic. In the 19th Century the first rule of diplomacy was “Don’t fuck around with the Royal Navy”. Piracy in those waters disappeared.

In the 20th Century the same rule applied but this time the USN had taken on the role. The results were the same.

It is my certain opinion that John F. Kerry is a pompous ass, a liar, a coward, a traitor and is totally without honor or scruple.

  92. jakee308
    92 | December 4, 2009 2:30 am

    @ African Moondog:
The problem isn’t policy, it’s means.

In the days of sail or even reciprocal steam (light weight gasoline powered marine engines have only been a viable means of deep water propulsion within the last 30 years.) the pirate could usually be detected soon enough for avoidance and/or defensive preparation.

Today with skiffs capable of 20 to 40 knots speed and lightweight weapons capable of significant damage coupled with the difficult legal aspects of armed Merchantman, the pirates are able to attack their unarmed, slow moving targets with relative impunity.

The only counter to this mobility would be to field a fleet of similar skiffs and small craft with coordination and communication but this tactic is thwarted by the size of the pirates’ possible operational area.

The optimal solution would be inshore patrols that would discover/interdict the pirates in their lairs/staging points before they begin their forays. Somalia and Eritrea have NO effective governance that has an interest in doing so. In fact it is most likely that the ‘warlords’ are themselves the financiers and organizers of these assaults.

    Good morning all!

Idiots believe Che was a little man fighting against the big, bad government. Simple anti-authoritarian sentiment.

    And nothing more.

Typically they’ll view anyone telling them otherwise as part of the problem, making reversing their position near impossible. They feel empowered and “special” at being a part of something new and revolutionary, and this feeling is reinforced by celebrity support for Che. In fact, the less they know likely adds to the positive feeling.

Unfortunately, the lessons that they need to learn will not be taught by educators, the media, or their families. Which leaves the rest of us to suffer.

This whole idea that ‘Sceptics” are somehow anti- science is ludicrous.
Doesn’t scepticism aid scientific inquiry? There is a political agenda & financial incentive for the AGW crowd.

Another thing, Obama may sign a scrap of paper in Copenhagen (just as Bill Clinton did at Kyoto), but especially after Climategate I don’t think you will see the Senate ratify anything on the issue. Remember, Clinton didn’t even try to get Kyoto ratified. Now, after Climategate, the mood of the senate on the issue is likely to be even more hostile to the idea of trashing the American economy in the name of a climate boogyman that doesn’t exist…

Rodan, in answer to your question of why do progressives admire Che Guevara, the answer is simple, in my opinion: the Left admires the goals Guevara pursued. They want a utopian society as much as Guevara wanted, and while they don’t publicly condone the means, they don’t object. After all, as far as they’re concerned, the ends justifies the means. That ends my preaching to the choir.

CJ has read again a book and now he is an expert in “sex laws” in Uganda and the bad, bad influence of US-Christians (c-street) there.

The header is: Audio: The Secret Political Reach of ‘The Family’

It’s about a new book written by Jeff Sharlet and an interview for NPR about the book, where he accuses the above mentioned “Family” to be the mastermind behind a disgusting law in Uganda against homosexuality which includes the death penalty.

I haven’t read the book so I provide an (imho) insightful review of a certain reader:

    snip

In fact, THE FAMILY itself is an irresponsibly written book, one of those books whose good qualities--its reporting of ordinary day to day facts that create the appearance of a vivid atmosphere, Sharlet’s fluent prose, his catchy chapter titles, and so on--all serve a negative purpose, creating unfounded fear and exacerbating the already-excessive divisions in American social and political life today.

    Snip

At the end of the day, THE FAMILY isn’t even good value for those who remain truly worried that people like the late Richard Halverson will one day rule America: Sharlet mainly repeats the same allegations made by David Cantor in the 1994 Anti-Defamation League study “The Religious Right: The Assault on Tolerance & Pluralism in America”.

Cantor made the phrase “The Religious Right” famous with this 193 page study. Midge Decter reviewed the study at the time in the magazine COMMENTARY, which has been one of the great ornaments of American intellectual life for two generations, and not coincidently one of the great outlets for American Jewish writing on a variety of cultural, literary, social, political and religious issues. Decter wrote that the Cantor’s study “is intended to warn the country of the growth, in the words of Cantor’s introduction, of an ‘exclusionist religious movement’ seeking to ‘unite its version of Christianity with state power.’

    Snip

So for those who are really worried about The Religious Right, I would recommend re-reading Cantor’s original study. For all its flaws, it hasn’t been surpassed at what it set out to do. Sharlet’s THE FAMILY is just one of many books way downstream from a successful original, the product of Sharlet’s apparent willingness to dishonourably make a name for himself, and money for his bank account, by misusing his talents as a journalist.

    Snip

So far so good. But a little research of the story reveals that the story is a bit different and that Uganda has a huge problem with what is called “defilement” and boy-soldiers:

    Snip

An undetermined number of women were victims of abduction and rape by rebel forces. Unconfirmed reports state that UPDF mobile forces regularly beat civilians and raped women.
The ADF and LRA rebels/terrorists, led by Joseph Kony, abducted many children, using them as guards, laborers, soldiers, and, in the case of the LRA, for forced sex. Both the ADF and the LRA abducted civilians who were terrorized into virtual slavery as guards, laborers, soldiers, and, in the case of the LRA, as sex slaves. In addition to being beaten, raped, and forced to march until exhausted, children abducted by the LRA were forced to participate in the killing of other children who attempted to escape. As many as 5.000 Ugandan children abducted by the LRA were held in the southern part of Sudan: The Government of Sudan actively supports the LRA. In past years, the LRA also reportedly sold and traded some children, mostly girls, or provided them as gifts to arms dealers in Sudan.

Child abuse remained a serious problem, particularly the rape of young girls (known locally as “defilement”). Only a small fraction of these incidents is reported, especially when the perpetrator is a family member, neighbor, or teacher--as is often the case. Increasing numbers of accusations reach the courts, although neither conviction nor punishment are common. Cases are reported frequently in newspapers, but a payment to the girl’s parents often ended the matter. Despite these obstacles, an increasing number of cases are being prosecuted. While defilement carries a maximum sentence of death, that punishment has never been meted out to a convicted rapist. Defilement applies to all cases of sexual contact outside of marriage involving girls younger than 18 years of age, regardless of consent or the age of the perpetrator. The marriage of young girls by parental arrangement is common, especially in rural areas.

    Snip

From another link 40,000 pupils defiled by their teachers in Uganda it becomes clear that the laws are not only against homosexuality but likewise against harassments of boys and girls and to protect the society of a growing Aids-disaster.

    Snip

IT was a school party. Pupils ate, and so did teachers. Soon, it was time to serve another round of drinks. Wilfred Komakech opened the headmaster’s office, to fetch more crates of soda only to find his boss, the head teacher, wriggling on top of a 13-year-old schoolgirl.

On the basis of Komakech’s testimony and medical examination, Charles Kinyera, the former headmaster of Gwengdiya Primary School, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for defilement. Last month, the Court of Appeal upheld the conviction on grounds that the head teacher “shamelessly defiled a pupil he was supposed to protect.”

    Snip

The new laws protect girls and boys likewise and are not intended to make homosexuality a crime per se and it is not a conspiracy of the “evil religious US-American right” against Ugandan gays. Btw.: an additional research how homosexuality was treated in pre-colonial times would be interesting.

Uganda is hunted by a conflict in which the terrorists use children as soldiers, sex-slaves and force them to unbelievable brutality against other children and the society as a whole.

Kony’s Ugandan LRA is a well-ordered fighting force, whose senior officers have been trained by Sudan, Iran and Iraq

To misuse the plight of the Ugandan youth’s to fire a cheap shot against the “religious right” in the USA is intellectually dishonest, a sloppy research, completely unscientific and bares the lack of empathy for those children. You and your “community of lizards” should be ashamed for not fact checking the claim and for down dinging and ankle-biting a certain poster.

Therefore I’m very happy that the first hearse chaser from DailyK has already arrived to attract members of your community to DailyK. Maybe it was not your brightest idea to purify your community out of nearly all of the right wingers ?

now for some real news that matters.

    Breast Implants Divorce

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — You could call it a custody fight over the breasts. North Dakota’s Supreme Court is considering whether the value of breast implants should be part of a divorce case.

When Traci and Erik Isaacson split, their assets were divided, the lawyer for Erik Isaacson argues the five-grand spent on his wife’s breast implants should have been counted when their stuff was divvied-up. Traci Isaacson’s attorney says the plastic surgery wasn’t an issue during the divorce trial, so it shouldn’t be the
    basis of an appeal.

Well this is interesting. we’ve all heard the stories about how Obama, as the first “black” President, is getting unprecedented numbers of threats, right? It appears that this is being brought to us by the same people who brought us “glowball worming” because the Secret Service says it isn’t so:

Secret Service: Threats Against Obama No Higher than Normal

(White House Photo)The director of the Secret Service today disputed widely-reported claims that President Obama is receiving more death threats than previous presidents.

At a congressional hearing into the White House security breach that took place last week, when Tareq and Michaele Salahi “crashed” the White House state dinner, Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan said the current threat level against the president is normal.

The threats right now … is the same level as it has been for the previous two presidents at this point in their administrations,” Sullivan said.

Now, I’m certainly not condoning anyone threatening the President, but can we cut the hysteria that “racists” are all “out to get” Obama because he is “black”?

Chen wasn’t allowed to stay (nor Nodrog), because they aren’t trying to replace LGF, right down to the resident liberals.

I just want to thank Guggi again for that Ugandan stuff.
I don’t care who attends prayer meetings.
But… Now that I get the situation, I have skimmed the thread at TOP, and come to the conclusion,
(especialy after seeing the downdings on #105 that the prevailing wisdom of “Yertle the Turtle” ( Thanks Buzz) and his green slime is that coercive sexual abuse and child rape are excusable if it gives you
some fake-ass point to make against Christians.

I thought we were out to get him because he’s a Chicago mobster who wants to steal our money.

    Okay, here goes:
First some bona fides: I spent a few years in the late 60’s and early 70’s around/with assorted leftists/communists/radicals and other college rabble rousers in New Haven CT.

I guarantee, he fancies himself some kind of ’savior’/shepherd of the ‘people’ and he gets angry and feels hurt and unappreciated when he doesn’t get the adulation and adoration from his followers.

You and I might be the same age-ish. Sounds like you know what you are talking about. I think I might save your comment for the kids.

New (12/3) article on Climategate: NASA may be America’s CRU. It links to an analysis of who are the major players in Climategate based on the (so-far) leaked emails. Phil Jones is #1, Gavin Schimdt (Realclimate.org) comes in at #6 overall (2nd American, surprisingly, ahead of Michael Mann who comes in as #10 overall). The analysis shows James Hansen is in fact mentioned in some of the leaked emails (unlike some articles I’ve seen, e.g. JWF?).

The analysis to which Horner refers, the one referring to Gavin Schmidt as a “major player,” is a network analysis provided by Daniel Katz and Michael J. Bommarito II at Computational Legal Studies. These two men used the e-mails as a database and drew a vast network of connections based on frequency of mention as From, To, or (Blind) Carbon Copy.
    [snip]
This remarkable analysis also included hub-and-authority scores (per the Hyperlink-Induced Topic Search, or HITS, Algorithm) for the most frequently mentioned locations and persons. As expected, Phil Jones is rated as the highest authority in the network. But the top ten authorities include six Americans. Gavin Schmidt, as Horner said, is the sixth-ranked authority. He is also an official associated with the GISS Laboratory. In fact he is the second-ranking American in the network, after Jonathan Overpeck of the University of Arizona. (Interestingly, Michael E. Mann, the only other figure to come under investigation thus far, is the tenth-ranked person overall in the network.) James Hansen is not in the top ten, but he does figure in twenty-five of the e-mails and is therefore part of the network.

It just gets better every day, doesn’t it? Interestingly, Hansen told a British newspaper last week that he would not be attending the Climate Carnival in Copenhagen, stating it would be a “farce”. What is not a farce are the millions (perhaps to be billions) of dollars thrown away on this voodoo.

From the WUWT “So Where’s the Oh Snap! Email?” comments, clarification (as if further is needed) for those (e.g. CJ/LGF) who claim that the links provided by Realclimate.org, and labelled ‘raw data’, are in fact not raw data (which fact Gavin Schmidt of realclimate.org occasionally admits in between bouts of trying to obfuscate same):

    JaneHM (20:07:52) :

    Anthony
How much of what the Team put up last week at http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/data-sources/#Climate_data_raw is truly raw, and not pre-massaged?”

REPLY: I don’t know about the others that much, but the ones that matter the most for this discussion:

    # GHCN v.2 (Global Historical Climate Network: weather station records from around the world, temperature and precipitation)
    # USHCN US. Historical Climate Network (v.1 and v.2)

Are not “raw” at all. Each has gone through a variety of adjustments for TOBS, SHAP, FILNET, for USHCN V.1 USHCN V.2 and GHCN V.2 also have adjustments done.

    see here: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2008/05/13/ushcn-version-2-prelims-expectations-and-tests/

GHCN V.2 gets the same adjustments as UHCN V.2, all done by NOAA/NCDC after raw data transcription from observer B91 printed forms.

So the answer is, for the surface temperature record, no truly raw data has been presented on the links Gavin provided.

Rodan, I don’t know if you have read this article but it is just about mandatory to give to any fool who ever glorifies that scumbag Che Guevara.

Oh how I wish that the Hollywood useful idiots who make movies that romanticize him could sit here and explain away all the specifics in this article. For instance, the Rigoberto Hernandez episode, Che Guevara murdered a 17-year-old retarded boy with no trial (Che didn’t believe in trials as they delayed the satisfaction of his bloodlust too long) accusing him ridiculously of being a CIA agent.
