Abbey and Meredith, a love story

Filed under Open thread at December 10th, 2009 - 9:03 pm

I got this from an email so I decided to make a post out of it. I hope everyone gets something out of it…

abbey

This is one of the kindest things you may ever see..
It is not known who replied, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office of the US postal service.

Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:

Dear God,
Will You please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with You in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that You let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope You will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when You see her You will know that she is my dog.

I really miss her.
Love, Meredith

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, ‘To Meredith’ in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, ‘When a Pet Dies..’ Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

Dear Meredith,
Abbey arrived safely in heaven.
Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away. Abbey isn’t sick anymore. Her spirit is here with Me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don’t need our bodies in heaven, I don’t have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.
By the way, I’m easy to find ~ I am wherever there is love.

Love,
God

Nice story. I have already heard about this. Could you imagine if CFnJ worked at the dead letter office instead of pimping Amazon goods from his windowless basement bunker?

    Dear Abbey,

There is no God and your dog is dead and gone. Get over it.

    Sincerely,

PS – You are a racist for “owning” a black dog.

Thats what Bush and His Compassionate Conservative Crowd did after 9/11. Instead of leveling the Arabic-Islamic Empire and sending them into the Stone age, he sent our Troops to die to build them schools, Roads and a Democracy. That’s why I despise Bush and his crew. Frum was one of that gang. The Compassionate Conservative Crowd are Progressives in disguise. They are a 5th column and are not that different than Obama and his crew. They need to be removed from the GOP.

    @ Rodan:

    I love dogs, too!

There’s a very sweet story online somewhere about a bomb sniffing dog that was trained in Israel but now works in Montana. The police were shopping for bomb sniffing dogs and they found a place in Israel that had an excess of trained dogs, I guess, so Israel said the Montana police could have this beautiful and smart dog if they paid for his plane ticket.

Dogs are mono-lingual, though, so they sent a list of his Hebrew commands to the Montana police but his trainer couldn’t pronounce them properly. So the dog wasn’t sure what the police wanted and the training can’t be transferred to another language.

The trainer saw that a rabbi was going to the State Capital (which is where he and the dog work) so they watched the rabbi do a Chanukah ceremony. The dog could hear the rabbi speaking in Hebrew and he REALLY perked up!! Hebrew is his native language!

So the trainer got the rabbi to help him pronounce the words and the dog is now a star in his canine unit! He loves to hear his native language from the rabbi (who has someone else to speak to in Hebrew himself now — the bomb sniffing dog).

They are gorgeous animals and they can be so incredibly helpful!!

I’m always amazed at the stories of the dogs who live with disabled people and call 911 when they get sick, etc.

    Amazing!

OK, looks like it is safe now!

factcheck.org just showed their true bias. Thank you Chuckie for bringing this to my attention.

    here we go….

    http://factcheck.org/about/

    Our Mission
We are a nonpartisan, nonprofit “consumer advocate” for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics. We monitor the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews and news releases. Our goal is to apply the best practices of both journalism and scholarship, and to increase public knowledge and understanding.

Politics? Ummm then why the sudden interest in AGW?

…..create a community of scholars within the University of Pennsylvania that would address public policy issues…..

University of Pennsylvania? yes, totally unconnected to the issue so a valid authority and able to do a totally unbiased “Fact Check”?

I really am impressed when an independent expert group fact checks things.

Now let us recap… http://factcheck.org/ it is important you check the main page, that is where I stole my new avitar from (steam…) posted this, http://factcheck.org/2009/12/climategate/ where they claim,

In late November 2009, more than 1,000 e-mails between scientists at the Climate Research Unit of the U.K.’s University of East Anglia were stolen and made public by an as-yet-unnamed hacker.

OK, more than 1,000 e-mails between scientists at the Climate Research Unit of the U.K.’s University of East Anglia and the bit they missed out “other people” yes, the e-mails were not internal as you may have thought. Some (in fact 518 out of 1073, nearly 50%) contained the word Mann.

    Mann?… who is this Mann?

    Michael E. Mann
    Professor
Director, Earth System Science Center (ESSC)
    Department of Meteorology
    The Pennsylvania State University
    University Park, PA 16802-5013

So, it looks like factcheck.org has now departed from just

We monitor the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players

To, well read the “Fact Check” http://factcheck.org/2009/12/climategate/

Notice how the emphasis is on e-mails?

The real “Climategate” is the code, the programmers comments in the code and the “data”

    OH!!! I very nearly forgot!

    Factcheck.org
scholars within the University of Pennsylvania

    Professor Michael E. Mann
Director, Earth System Science Center (ESSC)

When Mike Mann indicated that he wasn’t comfortable complying with the Freedom of Information Act, was a crime committed by flouting the law?
When CRU people were advised to destroy emails in which people exercised their rights under the UK’s Freedom of Information Act, was there conspiracy to violate the law?
Were the requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act honored, or weren’t they? This is a legal issue, and not something for politics.
When NASA refused, and still refuses, to honor a request for information under the US Freedom of Information Act, is there a violation of the law? Is there an effort to deny those seeking information under the FOIA their legal rights? This is all information generated by these agencies using public money, and the public is entitled to the information according to the Freedom of Information Act, so what has been happening, and is it criminal? This needs to be settled in a court of law, not by some political group.

(Folks, if this has been covered in earlier comments, lemme know so I can quit raking the swamp.)

That is the excuse given to flout the FOIA. But then change the law if it needs changing. If we have a law, how can an agency just insist that it is not going to follow it?
Another interesting thing is that NASA has on two occasions reportedly had to change its data because of a challenge, according to what has been reported. So why do they refuse to give the same person access again to their data, when he has already proven his ability to find errors?

These agencies insist on not being audited by anyone who can correct their errors.

He’s in a place where they’re forced to say white is black and black is white when their master calls upon them to do so.

In this situation, if Saudi Arabia says “White is white,” then CJ forces all his minions to say, “No, this must mean that white is black or some other color because we’re not allowed to agree with anything that Saudi Arabia says at any time about anything.”

    Mohammad hated black dogs

    Abu Dawud #2839

Abd Allah B. Mughaffal reported the apostle of Allah as saying: Were dogs not a species of creature I should command that they all be killed; but kill every pure black one.

The Hadith’s note for #2839 says, “The prophet did not order the killing of all the dogs, for some are to be retained for hunting and watching. He ordered to kill the jet black ones. They might be more mischievous among them

Interesting thought though, Obama bows to the Saudi King and the Japanese Emperor, but snubs the King of Norway in his own country. One wonders why?

Good morning Mary Lee. We lost our dog of 12 years last April.
Really tough & I think of her at some point in the day every day.
This little girl never knew a day in her life without her dog, so very tough for her.

Our spaniel died when I was about 8 I never thought that such misery was possible. I still remember the anguish. The trouble with pets is that you know that you are probably going to out live them and I am afraid to say, with each passing, you get more and more inured to the fact. perhaps that is one of the reasons for having them, they help toughen one and prepare one for the big bad world.

    Good Morning everybody!
Oh man now I am teary eyed from reading this story. Reminds me that I need to put out a little gift for my lady mail carrier for Christmas. She really tries not to be afraid of my dogs. They bark at her through the window and door and she calls out “hi puppies!” every time (she has known one of my dogs since it was teeny tiny-both were rescued when pups, big and pit-bull mixes!) But they bark at her how dogs do everyday; and I would be scared if it was me.

It’s 3am here…I got in 6hrs; fell asleep too early but my clock is totally messed up!

    PS. Charles Johnson is projecting!

That comment was so Hitleresque. This prophet guy seems to have had some mental and emotional issues.

This is one of the most disturbing things abt. the ROP. Dogs bring such joy to people.
To order the mass killing of such a wonderful creature really shows the blood thirsty cruel nature of ‘the profit’. I’m thinking a black dog recognized his true character and either bit him or just simply wasn’t friendly to him and feeling disrespected, the vindictive Mohammed summarily ordered their execution. I also bet he wanted to kill all dogs but knew that wasn’t advisable. Before Islam, people in the M.E. loved dogs. There are so many amazing breeds that come from that area of the world. When I think of dogs trying to stay alive there now, I could cry.
Islam never misses an opportunity to crush happiness.
