The Fiskie? No.

Filed under Blogmocracy, Open thread at January 1st, 2010 - 10:30 pm

Remember the good ol’ days …
From the original LGF Dictionary, preserved at Zombietime ~

Fiskie – An award originated by Charles, designating the single person in any calendar year who most clearly exhibited the personality traits of BBC reporter Robert Fisk (who, after being kidnapped by Afghan extremists, expressed sympathy for them and their cause and famously declared, “If I were them, I’d have beaten me too.”); or, more generally, who was the year’s most unrepentant idiotarian. Voting on the Fiskie takes place every year in January. Previous winners have included Jimmy Carter and Rachel Corrie. (See also the LGF FAQ.) [The award was originated by Charles in this post on 12/19/2002; originally it was merely called “LGF Idiotarian of the Year Award”; after complaints from LGFers that nominee Robert Fisk was in a league by himself and was sure to win, Charles updated his post, dropping Fisk from the nomination yet changing the name to “The Robert Fisk Award for Idiotarian of the Year”; …

*sigh* Those threads were so much fun, but sad in the overflow of nominations. There was even a counter-award added a few years later for the best anti-Idiotarian named after the late Oriana Fallaci… but it was yanked as Fallaci was found under the bus.

Since most of us have left that place behind, we’d like to continue the tradition here at our new home.

To facilitate debate (and to prevent the already award winning (deux) Johnson from running away with this one every year) I say we should name our Idiotarian of the Year Award after the head lizard himself, Charles Johson, and go ahead and give him lifetime acknowlegement.

Should it be … The Johnson? The Chucky? The Ponytail? You decide! I say we should keep the anti-Idiotarian award named for Oriana Fallaci. What do you think?

Charles-Palin

Without further ADIEU ~ *wink, wink* … *gettit?*
I proudly present to you the very first annual

~Blogmocracy Awards for 2009~

The categories will be:

The (?) – the best example of a horse’s ass for the year.

And continuing with a good thing…

The Fallaci (?) – the best all around anti-idiotarian fighting the good fight!

Nominations are now open (Jan 1-Jan 5). Please place all nominations here. The top 10 nominations in each category will make it to the final round. Final round will start Jan 6 and run until Jan 10.

Sadly, Jimmah and I do not know how long we are separated for. You wouldn’t believe how much info we have to provide to the various agencies involved (primarily the British Consulate). Like six months of both our financial records, and they’ll take my biometric data and run it through the DHS database, and all kinds of shit. Documentation of every aspect of our lives, basically.

I have to stay in the US to get my spousal visa, as they won’t let you enter the UK on a tourist visa and then apply for the spousal one (anymore). So…we don’t know for certain when we can be together again. :(

If they are married, then she has the right to abode in the UK, and also the right to live and work in any EU country.

    Spouse is what married is.

I think “The Johnson”Award is kinda catchy.”Johnson”is one of the many slang words for “di*k” and well, both the winner, and the awards namesake will/do fit that description.Besides, other blogs that will no doubt have fun with the nominations and voting, will instantly recognize that catchy name.Im not sure about the “Fallaci”…not many people would recognize that ,other than long time LGF readers. How about the “Neda” award? And maybe have 2 categories,1 international(Id def nominate her for that),and one national?

    Good morning!

Sorry if this is a repost, Rush is out of hospital, no heart attack doing fine. Yay! Sorry haters, G-d does not care to be mocked and your “prayers” will be remembered.

Love the idea of an award, but not sure it should be named after the blogtator, hate feeding the jerk. If it must be, my choice is for the somewhat obscure “Icarus Award.” Its counter should be the “Fallaci.”

As for candidates, that is tough.

Icarus: the msm, since their complete dereliction of duty continues to subvert our liberty.Second choice, congress for the same reason.

Fallaci: Co awards, Glen Beck and Andrew Breitbart, two of the only media figures exposing the rot of the neo commies “ruling” over us. Special Citizen award the teabaggers tea partiers.

Whoever said it above (too many horses, too few shovels) got it right. It’s a year in which it appears that the world lost its collective mind. You almost need to break this down into government, financial and internet divisions. Nevertheless, I will give it a shot:

Icarus/Chuckie/UpChuck: The Left Wing, Socialist Democratic Party for giving us BHO, Janet Incompetentato, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Max Baucus and on and on and on, all in the same year.

Special Chuckie for Lifetime Achievement in the area of being an ass and an idiot: Teddy Kennedy who persisted in his idiocy until his death. Buh, bye Ted.

Fallaci: Wafa Sultan for her book A God Who Hates. Annual honorable mention to Robert Spencer.

Special honorable mention to Rifqa Barry.

Hmm i think i have to go with the MSM for the Icarus/chuckie/Johnson…the way they have totally ignored the disastrous incompetency of this administration(while continuing to protect/fellate O)..their continuing Alinsky rules nuclear attack against Sarah Palin…totally ignoring the ACORN scandal, despite freakin’ video evidence(and multiple ones at that),and the connections of ACORN to the mortgage meltdown and to out wonderful President…totally ignoring climategate, etc etc. For the Fallaci/or whatever,id nominate the Iranian girl Neda. Not only was she brave to go out and protest in the face of a violent regime, but she represents so many oppressed people around the world…especially the muslim world. Her death should be a rallying point for millions(but of course our wonderful MSM ignore her death, while shrieking everytime an Israeli steps on a palestinians toe)

Actually, shithead, I think you need to reexamine your ideas about how much time I’ve spent in America. I’m pretty tired of that old smear that I’m not American, and the demands for my birth certificate, and the demands to know who I have voted for.

BTW, morons who insist you’re not well-travelled until you spend ‘more’ time in the ‘heartland’ are just as idiotic and provinicial as someone who insists you’re not well-travelled until you’re visited, say, Paris.

I laughed when you ran this ‘argument’ on Killgore and told him he wasn’t well-travelled until he went to…where was it again? Arkansas? missouri?

I’m completely aware of that--and I am right. This, and using the word ‘arsehole’ rather than asshole, was Spare o Lake’s utterly craven and completely typical way of continuing his nasty little flamewar against Jimmah, myself, and other libs. But especially Jimmah and myself.

BTW, it’s pretty easy for Spare to disprove me. All he has to do is not act like a total fucking asshole launching flamewars and crazed attacks against libs. Should be easy, right?

What a cute story about the Cheetos…I have friends in the UK who I have to mail Triscuits to, they love them and can’t get them. Is your sister and family back now?

Sadly, Jimmah and I do not know how long we are separated for. You wouldn’t believe how much info we have to provide to the various agencies involved (primarily the British Consulate). Like six months of both our financial records, and they’ll take my biometric data and run it through the DHS database, and all kinds of shit. Documentation of every aspect of our lives, basically.

I have to stay in the US to get my spousal visa, as they won’t let you enter the UK on a tourist visa and then apply for the spousal one (anymore). So…we don’t know for certain when we can be together again. :(

Oh this is comedy gold. Jimmahs a goof, but I’ll bet that he is over there in the UK with the annulment proceedings underway.

    2. Twenty years ago, in order to move to England with my (now estranged) husband, all I had to do was walk into the British Embassy with my marriage license, my EH’s birth certificate, my birth certificate, some financial info, and pay the fee. My passport was stamped with “British Resident.” It was FAR easier and simpler than when we moved back to the USA. If the woman in question is Irish, it should be even easier with the EU.

Napolitano announces international airport security campaign

The Department of Homeland Security on Thursday announced it would launch a campaign next week to strengthen security screening procedures at a host of international airports.

The effort is part of the White House’s heightened response to a Christmas Day attempt to bomb Delta Flight 253 in Detroit, a flight that originated in Amsterdam.

“As part of the ongoing review to determine exactly what went wrong leading up to Friday’s attempted terrorist attack, we are looking not only at our own processes, but also beyond our borders to ensure effective aviation security measures are in place for U.S-bound flights that originate at international airports,” Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a statement Thursday.

Does this incompetent administration realize that all four of the 9/11 flights were domestic, not international?

Do they realize that all of the “red flags’ were clearly visable?

Then this, from The Wall Street Journal:

A U.S. government that has barred the phrase “war on terror” has nonetheless acknowledged that a failed Christmas day bomb attack on an airliner was a terrorist attempt. Can we all now drop the pretense that we stopped fighting a war once Dick Cheney and George W. Bush left the White House?

The attempt by 23-year-old Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab follows the alleged murders in Ft. Hood, Texas by Islamist-inspired Major Nidal Hasan in November. Brian Jenkins, who studies terrorism for the Rand Corporation, says there were more terror incidents (12), including thwarted plots, on U.S. soil in 2009 than in any year since 2001. The jihadists don’t seem to like Americans any better because we’re closing down Guantanamo.

This increasing terror tempo makes the Obama Administration’s reflexive impulse to treat terrorists like routine criminal suspects all the more worrisome. It immediately indicted Mr. Abdulmutallab on criminal charges of trying to destroy an aircraft, despite reports that he told officials he had ties to al Qaeda and had picked up his PETN explosive in Yemen. The charges mean the Nigerian can only be interrogated like any other defendant in a criminal case, subject to having a lawyer present and his Miranda rights read.

Yet he is precisely the kind of illegal enemy combatant who should be interrogated first with the goal of preventing future attacks and learning more about terror networks rather than gaining a single conviction. We now have to hope he cooperates voluntarily.

What I want to know is how, or if, these “watch lists” and “no-fly lists” have been maintained during the last year and if the need to “not offend” has overridden our need to “defend”.

Alas, I don’t think, for one moment, that we will ever get an honest answer to that question; the rogues and charlatans that infest this White House, as well as our legislative branch, will see to that.

Until the story of the woman’s being disciplined at work hit the net, I had never seen this picture. It was not published as a political cartoon the way the drawing of Sec. Rice as Prissy was.

I just read the thread at Patterico’s. I really think one’s reaction to the photoshop is a kind of ink blot or cloud interpretation--the viewer projects his or her OWN “world view” on to it.

When I saw it, my immediate reaction was that it was a visual of the idiom, “He’s not fit to shine her shoes.” Patterico mentioned the caption, “At last he’s found his niche.” I interpreted that as meaning a twist on the idiom, “Shining he shoes is the ONLY thing he’s good for.” Insulting, yes, but RACIST? Insulting President Obama because of his RACE? No, I can’t agree. Political barbs often exaggerate or incorporate a person’s physical attributes in order to ridicule him or her.

My worldview is admittedly naive. I don’t see demons in shadows hidden in light.

I remember when Oriana Fallaci went missing from CJ’s cesspool. One day her beautiful intense face was just gone. I think he erased her because he found out that years earlier she had praised Robert Spencer for his dedication to exposing Islam. CJ had not become a full on muzz lover at that point. It was even worse, as far as character goes. He is such a small insecure person that he could not tolerate Oriana having praised Robert. CJ is that kind of petty vindictive man. He actually reminds me of a bitchy nasty teenage girl who tries to dominate her ‘friends’ and goes nuts if one of them says hello to someone she considers and enemy.
What an embarrassment he has become.

    MadQueeq responds.

The caption asks: “Is this racist, Charles Johnson?”
Well, no, it isn’t — it’s just stupid. It apparently escaped this wingnut’s notice that I’m white. So the racist context of portraying a black man as a shoe shine boy isn’t really there, is it?
A textbook example of being “unclear on the concept.”

They’re awfully touchy about the racism issue, aren’t they?

I could read through comments but I’m pretty sure any that disagree will have been deleted and the user banned. And it looks like the rule is that any negative depiction of Obama is racist because he is black. Can’t fight that. No pictures, no cartoons, no criticism allowed. I saw a picture of him playing golf which was a criticism of what he did while “looking for the real killers”. Must have been racist.

So…we don’t know for certain when we can be together again.

for the UPCHUCK -- Barack Obama (no contest, IMO)

I would name the bad award ICARUS or UPCHUCK, something that we can recognize as deriving from the Little Green Fisk, but not something that immortalizes the idiot. The time will come — sooner than later, I think — when we won’t want to hear his name and new people won’t have heard of him. His fifteen minutes are winding to a close.

Now, we could have a 3rd award for the most revolting person all around, the WEASEL. This would be given to someone who is both poltically and personally (appearance, demeanor, speech, etc.) repulsive. They need not be ugly in physical features, but their mere appearance should automatically provoke the heaves. Nancy Pelosi, for example.

There’s something truly repellent about a man who spent years stoking the fires of anti-Muslim racism now spending much of his time claiming everyone else is racist. There’s also something repellent about a man who is so casual with the truth that he can claim he’d always believed in global warming while posts on his own blog from as late as 2007 prove otherwise. But that’s Charles Johnson.

While there is no doubt that a number of Left Wing bloggers have used Charles Johnson to club the Right, it now seems clear that the Left never really will trust him. The fact that Charles’ big coming out announcement got him noticed by nobody above liberal D-Lister Alan Colmes (and whack-job Andrew Sullivan) seems to confirm that Charles’ usefulness to the likes of KOS was momentary.

No doubt Charles will plod along, lecturing all about the evils of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Stacey McCain, hoping against hope that one or the other will take notice of him. It’s a sad existence, but one that Charles richly deserves.”

He coddled and encouraged that pissy bitch. She was the enemy and he ensconced her in our camp to poke and prod and incite trouble as he pushed his new leftist ideology. The shift was as dramatic as if he wanted us to convert to Islam. In fact

She is an insufferble bitch. The good news is that she can’t take it.
Turns out that she is whiny when confronted, but she does have CJ to shield her.

To facilitate debate (and to prevent the already award winning (deux) Johnson from running away with this one every year) I say we should name our Idiotarian of the Year Award after the head lizard himself, Charles Johson, and go ahead and give him lifetime acknowlegement.

While there’s plenty of good in this suggestion, I would like to offer a very different option.

My thoughts are that CJ’s behaviour is not original and that as such it does him an undeserved honour to name the award after him. I suggest naming the award after a previous case of a media person incorrectly labeled “conservative” and now an exponent of irrational and even whacky leftism and utterly unsubstantiated and slanderous conspiracies.

To that end I suggest naming the award the “Sullie” or the “Brockie”. It makes it all the more damning that CJ used to rail against these types.

His banhammer has become legendary. If you disagree with him (as I do) you will be summarily blocked from commenting (which I expect to be). Rather than engaging in meaningful discussion, he finds it more useful to eliminate the controversy by banning the offending party.
I must admit, though -- I do appreciate the fact that he actually reads the posts here fairly often. There aren’t that many of them, of course. And -- well, maybe he doesn’t have anything else to do.

I disagree. Fallaci deserves to be remembered, and Chuckles threw her under the bus. He could not come out and call her a “Eurofascist” seeing as how she was a partisan guerilla against Mussolini in her youth, so he did the only thing a leftist could do, make her a “nonperson”, Stalin and “1984″ style. By reviving the Fallaci as the anti-idiotarian award it not only remembers her but exposes Chuck’s perfidy.

I think that naming an award, however negative, after him would gratify CJ too much. I would rather allude to his evolution. It could be the ‘Switchy’ to honor his political turnaround, or, in light of his endorsement of instructing tots in unmentionable sexual practices, the ‘Fisty’.

Stick with ‘Fallaci’ for the other.

For the Fisty, I nominate Ben Nelson(D) for his treacherous cloture vote.

For the Fallaci I nominate R S McCain for outing the unmentionable one as a principle-free opportunist.

Perhaps the name should be the “Limp Johnson” award.

@ lgraas: By the way, I’ve never linked to LGF in well over a year of blogging. I never could imagine when anyone else ever did. ~~ Lisa Graas, aka ‘Mommy’

For the deserved Icarus, Barack Hussein Obama,it will contrast very nicely with his undeserved Nobel.

My nomination for the Icarus--well, not Icarus. Too much attention. MSNBC and Al Franken

My nomination for the Fallacci Award of 2009: James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles and the guy that saved the Delta flight--the Dutch filmmaker.

Should it be … The Johnson? The Chucky? The Ponytail? You decide! I say we should keep the anti-Idiotarian award named for Oriana Fallaci. What do you think?

    ICARUS

And the man who put the ICK in Icarus, the first annual Award winner, who else, Chuckles himself
    Runner up-- Ben Nelson

2009 Fallacci = That Dutch guy who tackled that RoP terrorist on Christmas on the northwest flight and saved the lives of 300 people

    Runner Up--Geert Wilders

I dont think i made my final nominees but here goes. For the “Icarus/Johnson” it has to be Obama. The buck stops there,as they say.For the “fallaci”or w/e Ill go with the Tea Partiers. If there is an international category, ill pick Neda,as she most represents the Iranian protesters. If there is an international category for the “I/J” award, that goes to the Global Warming loons.
