Sarah Palin: It’s War, not a Crime Spree

by bar ( 175 Comments › )
Filed under Islamic Terrorism, Islamists, Politics, Religion, Republican Party at January 5th, 2010 - 6:00 pm

President Obama’s meeting with his top national security advisers does nothing to change the fact that his fundamental approach to terrorism is fatally flawed. We are at war with radical Islamic extremists and treating this threat as a law enforcement issue is dangerous for our nation’s security. That’s what happened in the 1990s and we saw the result on September 11, 2001. This is a war on terror not an “overseas contingency operation.” Acts of terrorism are just that, not “man caused disasters.” The system did not work. Abdulmutallab was a child of privilege radicalized and trained by organized jihadists, not an “isolated extremist” who traveled to a land of “crushing poverty.” He is an enemy of the United States, not just another criminal defendant.

It simply makes no sense to treat an al Qaeda-trained operative willing to die in the course of massacring hundreds of people as a common criminal. Reports indicate that Abdulmutallab stated there were many more like him in Yemen but that he stopped talking once he was read his Miranda rights. President Obama’s advisers lamely claim Abdulmutallab might be willing to agree to a plea bargain – pretty doubtful you can cut a deal with a suicide bomber. John Brennan, the President’s top counterterrorism adviser, bizarrely claimed “there are no downsides or upsides” to treating terrorists as enemy combatants. That is absurd. There is a very serious downside to treating them as criminals: terrorists invoke their “right” to remain silent and stop talking. Terrorists don’t tell us where they were trained, what they were trained in, who they were trained by, and who they were trained with. Giving foreign-born, foreign-trained terrorists the right to remain silent does nothing to keep Americans safe from terrorist threats. It only gives our enemies access to courtrooms where they can publicly grandstand, and to defense attorneys who can manipulate the legal process to gain access to classified information.

President Obama was right to change his policy and decide to send no more detainees to Yemen where they can be free to rejoin their war on America. Now he must back off his reckless plan to close Guantanamo, begin treating terrorists as wartime enemies not suspects alleged to have committed crimes, and recognize that the real nature of the terrorist threat requires a commander-in-chief, not a constitutional law professor.

Has Obama gotten around to saying anything about the 5 US Muslims who were arrested in Pakistan, on their way to fight against our troops in Afghanistan?

    They aren’t hiding their intentions:

“We are not terrorists,” one of the five men, Ramy Zamzam, said as he entered the courtroom in the eastern Pakistani city of Sargodha, where they were arrested in December.

“We are jihadists, and jihad is not terrorism,” said Zamzam, 22, an Egyptian American who was a dental student at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Seems pretty clear cut to me. US citizens, giving aid and comfort to the enemy in wartime. There’s an archaic term for that sort of action…started with a “T”…

Sarah Palin hearts me. She sent me a facebook new years greeting.

What is the purpose of translating gitmo into something else. Couldn’t they just rename gitmo to Mecca? Problem solved.

Couldn’t THEY just produce a military decision and split the detainees up into dangerous and not dangerous? Let the not dangerous ones move in with Democratic congreecritters.

OF course. When they had Old Jerusalem, Gaza, and the rest of the West Bank they were just dying to set up an independent Palestinian state. Peace was right around the corner because there were no “occupied territories” back then.

    In shocker, Dorgan announces retirement

Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) announced this evening that he’s retiring at the end of his term, a shocking development that threatens Democratic control of his Senate seat next year.

Dorgan was up for re-election in 2010, but the third-term senator wasn’t facing any strong Republican opposition– but was facing the growing possibility of a serious challenge from popular Gov. John Hoeven (R-N.D.).

In his statement, Dorgan said his retirement was borne out of the desire to spend more time with his family.

    lobo91 wrote:

    Umm…wasn’t the PLO–the Palestine Liberation Organization–founded in 1964?

Yes. The same year that the Voting Rights Act passed in the US, and the Leftists, Islamists, and separatists started wresting control of the Civil Rights Movement from Martin Luther King and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and changing the focus of the movement from civil rights to “human rights.”

King and the SCLC had identified with the Biblical Exodus, and had welcomed partnership with whites, many of them Jews, in their struggle for integration. The Marxists, Islamists and separatists, following the lead of antisemite Stokeley Carmichael, expelled the whites from the movement, and made common cause with the “oppressed colonial peoples” of the world—most particularly, with the budding Palestine Liberation Organization.

These roots go far back, and very deep. The “civil rights movement” which the First Couple grew up familiar with was not the Civil Rights Movement of Dr. King, but the human rights movement of the Marxists, Islamists, and separatists, which was fundamentally hostile to Israel.

    From your link:

In her dissent, 9th Circuit Judge Margaret McKeown wrote that the majority “has charted territory that none of our sister circuits has dared to explore.” She noted that three other appellate courts – the 1st Circuit in a Massachusetts case, the 2nd Circuit in a New York case, and the 11th Circuit in a Florida case – “have all determined that vote denial challenges to felon disenfranchisement laws are not cognizable under the Voting Rights Act.”

I’d say the 9th Circuit is headed for reversal once again…

It amuses me to see how good ol’ Joe McCarthy is still the ultimate boogie man to the left. Why? Because he was right. The State Department HAD been infiltrated by Communists. McCarty used inflammatory rhetoric and played fast and loose with many of the facts, but history has proved he was right. So to me accusing someone of McCarthyism is tantamount to admitting that they are right.

The irony was McCarthy was a Liberal Republican.

The fact that the Soviets infiltrated the communist parties, or other organizations in the US did not mean that all people associated with those organizations were traitors or disloyal Americans.

That’s right. The Communist Party is just another political party, no different from Republicans or Democrats.

  149. Aussie Infidel
    150 | January 5, 2010 8:12 pm

The bottom line is that the Obama Administration has a philosophical blindspot regarding the current terrorist threat. It has to do with their perception of a just war and a rational response to a warlike threat.

The Liberal radical progressive movement CANNOT admit that Islamic Terror is a real and present danger to the fabric of the Nation of the USA. They attempt to ‘play down’ the threat by casting it as a mere criminal threat that can be minimised by applying law and order measures. This flies in the face of the reality and even the much quoted al Qaeda rhetoric that they are engaged in a war to the end with the West and the USA in particular.

We see the liberal progressive’s non sequitur in the way that refuse to even call terrorism by its name. They must know that their logic is faulty, or perhaps they are so ideologically blinded by their own rhetoric that they are incapable of objective logic.

By casting terrorists as mere criminals and then providing them with Miranda protections the radical progressive liberal left are themselves a danger to the fabric of government and national security.

There is perfect precedent in the treatment of NAZI spies during WWII when caught within the US. They were interrogated mercilessly and then hanged under the terms of both the Hague and Geneva Conventions. THIS is what should happen to ALL terrorists captured in the US.

Lawyering them up and then allowing them all the protections of the US legal system INCLUDING PLEA BARGAINING is a travesty, and should be labelled as such. Individuals supporting this travesty should be brought to account for sedition and dealt with within the terms of US law and if found guilty jailed.

Terrorists have NO PROTECTIONS under both the Hague and Geneva Conventions and lawyers claiming that they do break the sedition laws and must be dealt with while the terrorists themselves forfeit their lives after intensive and very searching interrogations as happened during WWII to German spies captured in the US.

And the USA did try to destroy the USSR.

It was a giant dick fight with big pointy teeth.

    @ CtheP:
Well to you and CynicalC, it was nice trading ideas.

I have a Golden Retriever that I consider the perfect family dog. My Granddaughter (#5) can take food right out of his mouth and he never growls. Course, He has a habit of stealing her food if those little hands are low enough.

    Good night all

Wasn’t McCarthy concerned about communists IN GOVERNMENT, not the average communist dupe on the street?

He was concerned with communists who were decision makers and people in positions of power and influence, both overt but more importantly covertly undermining democracy at the behest of the USSR

This b_dumb creature needs to go read some books and get a job, so as to save money and take a trip to Russia. These ignoramuses infuriate me. What next? They’ll be defending Hitler? Wait, don’t answer it. Schmuckles the fat androgynous menopausal freak is already a fan of Eugenics. What makes it even more ironic is that if tenets of Eugenics were applied rigorously, Schmuckles would be earmarked for extermination.

    In his own words:

    CJ – May 29,2008:

Stanley Kurtz has another bombshell article today, on Barack Obama’s extensive connections to one of the most virulent anti-capitalist far-left groups operating in the United States: Inside Obama’s Acorn.

    CJ – Jan 5, 2010:

What the right has achieved with this crazy war against ACORN — a lot of misery for the poor people that ACORN helps. The organization has its problems, yes. But the relentless demonization does bear a resemblance to the tactics of Joe McCarthy.

HT: MM who posted a link to CJ’s 5/29/08 posting over there.

They think Communism is OK. Look at how they love Hugo Chavez and Obama.

Evidently they also love Lenin and Stalin.

I guess jayzee’s tender feelings for Stalinism are okay with Chuck.
Chuck bans someone for defending a clumsy gasbag like McCarthy. Then he applauds someone who is defending a brutal mass murderer like Stalin.

(Does this jayzee person know that Stalin and Hitler were allies until 1941? That his adorable Communist Party of the USA promoted a pro-Hitler policy during that alliance? Would he think it was cute to have his friend’s grandfather’s coffin draped in the swastika? I guess so.)

CJ is so eager to hate anyone on the Right that he is embracing first Mao, and now Stalin, just because the Right opposed them.
