Obsessive Compulsive Israel Disorder (OCID)

by Eliana ( 121 Comments › )
Filed under Gaza, India, Israel, Media, Palestinians at January 7th, 2010 - 7:00 am

It’s no secret that the media has an unhealthy obsession with Israel. The Free Middle East website has a video about this obsession:

Their Obsessive and Compulsive article explains the mental disorder / global disease:

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental disorder that causes repeated unwanted and intrusive thoughts. An OCD sufferer will engage in repetitive behaviors (compulsions) aimed at reducing anxiety caused by these thoughts (obsessions). OCD is a chronic or long-term illness that can take over a person’s life, hurt relationships, and limit the ability to work or go to school.

Scientists have proven that OCD is caused by one part of the brain being unable to receive information from the other.

In the past 20 years the 24/7 cable news, internet and social networking sites have revolutionized the way we receive information. In the shadow of this information revolution lays a disease that has surprisingly not yet received an official diagnosis. The cause is also a restriction of information. The disease is called Obsessive Compulsive Israel Disorder or OCID.

For a country that is thousands of miles away, has a population of just 7 million and speaks a completely different language, the world is obsessively and compulsively focused on Israel.

From the same article, Obsessive and Compulsive:

In January 2009, when Israel launched operation Cast Lead, to root out rocket fire from the Gaza strip, the media covered every minute. There was no shortage of information that often presented Israel as the aggressor and perpetrator of all the violence in the region. Just like OCD stops the flow of information from one part of the brain to the other, OCID, stopped the flow of the rest of the important events going in the world.

While a tiny country was trying to secure its borders from rocket attack the world was going through major challenges.

  • * The Ethiopian military withdrew its troops from the Somalia civil war. This ongoing conflict has killed 300-400 thousand people since 1991.
  • * Indian Army continued to battle Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed militants in the disputed Kashmir region. This ongoing conflict has seen countless civilian massacres and terror attacks.
  • * The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a Sri Lanka terrorist group, launched major offensives around the northern part of the country including the bombing the state department of defense. 80 thousand people have been killed in the country’s civil war, including 8000 this year alone.

In another article on Free Middle East, they pose this question: Which is Googled More: Israel or Darfur? Take a look at the graph in this article. The answer isn’t surprising:

This graph shows the relative popularity of the search terms over the last twelve months of world-wide googling. Iran received 60% of the attention that Israel did, Iraq 40%, and AIDS little more than half.

Over the last few years 300,000 people have been killed in Sudan, yet over the last 12 months Darfur was googled a mere 4% as much as Israel!

Going back to Obsessive and Compulsive, this is the media’s problem:

While the media was predominantly reporting only on the conflict in the Gaza Strip as a prime example, the world was going through universal struggle. Their continual criticism and singling out of Israel is baseless in its logic vis a vis its abnormal media coverage. The larger worldly causes of global warming, hunger, aids and genocide have to take a back seat to feed a news aristocracy that clearly suffers from the sociological disease, Obsessive-Compulsive Israel Disorder.

The level of hate really is a mental disorder. (not excusing anything at all)

Southern Sudan needs help to avoid war, aid agencies say

That war pitted a northern government of Arab Muslims against southern blacks who follow Christianity and traditional African religions. It killed 2 million people and forced several million others from their homes.

The peace deal conferred limited autonomy on southern Sudan and ended one of Africa’s longest and deadliest wars even as a separate conflict that erupted in 2003 raged in Darfur, killing roughly 200,000, the United Nations says.

Despite the peace deal, violence in the south increased last year, Mailer said, and it could escalate further to become one of the biggest emergencies in Africa this year.

It’s anti-semitism disseminated in the form of propaganda.

Anyone confused as to how the German people were seduced by Adolf Hitler needs to take a close look at this.

The media, the UN and the world in general have no objections when Arab Muslims murder people, which is why “Palestinian” terror groups feel so comfortable bragging about murdering Jewish mothers and babies in an ice cream store and high school kids in a school library or pizza shop.

In Sudan, the targets of Arab Muslim rapes, ethnic cleansing and murders are black Muslims because they are black. The politically correct western media doesn’t care.

Obama doesn’t care if blacks in Sudan and murdered for being blacks.

He’s still courting the Arab Muslim world while the media backs him in hassling Israel while letting 3 MILLION MURDERS of black Muslims in Sudan go on without objection.

Obama and the media can only get themselves worked up into a frenzy when Jewish homes are planned to be built in Jerusalem (i.e., the Hebrew named city of Yerushalayim).

    This is truly insane.

    Eliana,

Great post. I wish I had something intelligent to say, but I am drawing a blank. Israel will always be held under a perverted microscope by the rest of the world. Thanks to the propaganda efforts supported by a perverted msm, there is now a whole generation of folks who actually believe that there is such a thing as a Palestinian population. The fact that Jordan was also created in 1947, as part of the same act which created Israel, and was the Arabs land for peace part of the deal, has been completely forgotten by the world.

There’s no question that what’s going on is Jew-hatred, but I think it’s described by many as a mental disorder because the primary nature of Jew-hatred is that it is deliberately irrational.

Jews are quite literally hated for “everything and its opposite” (as Dennis Prager has written in a book about anti-Semitism).

It’s deliberately irrational and it’s also self-destructive (as Hitler himself found out), but there’s also no excuse for it.

A news story being reported in Israel today…

US police: Man threatening Jews taken off flight

Police arrest Florida airline passenger Mansor Mohammad Asad who witnesses say proclaimed ‘I want to kill all the Jews’

    Associated Press
    Published: 01.07.10, 15:24 / Israel News

A Florida airline passenger who witnesses say proclaimed “I want to kill all the Jews” before police forced him off a Detroit-bound plane has been arrested.

Miami-Dade police said in a statement Thursday that 43-year-old Mansor Mohammad Asad of Toledo, Ohio, faces several charges including disorderly conduct.

Police say a taxiing Northwest Airlines flight was turned around at Miami International Airport late Wednesday. Witnesses told authorities Asad was loud, disruptive and claimed to be Palestinian. They believed he was sometimes speaking Arabic.

The Transportation Security Administration says three of his companions were taken off the plane and questioned. The plane departed after a search.

A phone number for Asad rang unanswered. Police didn’t return a message.

    Yes, it’s very disturbing.

I was reading an article on an Israeli news site last night about how this influence is being fought, though.

Millions of college age Jews have been visiting Israel on paid Birthright trips and returning to America (and their college campuses) with love for Israel. These kids are fighting the negative atmosphere at college campuses about Israel.

I’ve seen Birthright youngsters on planes to Israel myself. They are already so excited and so involved in being Jewish on the airplane flight and it increases ten-fold while they are in Israel (even though the trip is only 10 days).

    It’s amazing!

Somewhere in Texas, there is a program funded by a Jewish man or a Jewish group that sends disadvantaged Texan teenagers (often Hispanic) to Israel on free trips.

These are kids who would have little or no opportunities to travel and they’re suddenly invited to go to the Middle East (all the way to Asia).

They are housed with Jewish families in Israel and they end up loving Israel and loving Jews by the time their trip is finished. The families who take them in don’t always speak English, but they are fluent in warm Jewish hospitality and nearly endless GOOD MEALS!!

The kids return to Texas as Israel supporters.

    @ Eliana:

Good post, Eliana. The problem is a thorny and complex one, and has a lot of contributing factors: some historical — attitudes with roots in the attitudes of Czarist Russia and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and even going back to medieval Europe; the age-old trick of power-seekers (such as Diocletian, Hitler, the modern Left) to unite the populace behind them by picking out Designated Scapegoat which they claim is the primary source of the World’s Ills (“Without Israel, we would have World Peace”.)

Also, Israelis are a decent, moral, civilized people, whereas their neighbors have, many of them, descended into semi-savagery. The bombings and beheadings and other violence these Islamist clowns perpetrate invoke a twisted, eager kind of admiration and respect in the European and American Left. There is also the doctrinal and psychological need of the Left to adopt an “Oppressed Class” that the Left gets its jollies out of “Liberating.” Having liberated the hell out of American Blacks (and made them a permanent dependency of the Left), they have turned their solicitude to the “Palestinians” and the “Palestinian Cause, and by extension, any other radical Islamist cause or group.

This is a vile and disgusting back door process. I have run into a bunch of folks claiming, “I’m not anti-Semetic, but anti-Zionest.” These are the same scum comparing Israel to the Nazis. By turning the perception of us, (the Jewish poeple,) into what they are, they can succesfuly create the image of Jews as aggressors, and themselves as some sort of perpetual victim status. My absolute favorite is the, “Israeli land grab,” meme. The thought that Israel, which is smaller than West Virginia’s eastern panhandle, has been stealing land for neighboring, peace loving Arab States.

The anti-Semitism in the old Austro-Hungarian empire (f/k/a the Holy Roman Empire) was strong, particularly in Austria itself, but also in Hungary and those bits of Poland and the Ukraine that Austria controlled. It was not as restrictive or as savage as say, in the Russia of Alexander III — there were no pogroms, and Jews were, under the later Emperors even allowed titles of nobility; among the peasants and the lower classes, however, the anti-Semitism was deep-rooted: e.g., the Austrian-born Adolf Schickelgruber-Hitler.

What gets me is that the “Palestinians” (and Arab Muslims in general) are the enemies of all or most of the groups that the left has been spending their time liberating for the last 50 or 60 years.

Gays are executed in the Islamic world while women are honor-killed by their own families (or else stoned to death in public) for things like having sex or being SUSPECTED of having sex outside of marriage.

Blacks are slaughtered by the millions by Arab Muslims, of course.

The left is courting and loving people who not only don’t support the RIGHTS of gays, women, and blacks — the left is courting people who MURDER the people the left has been fighting to “liberate” all this time.

The left is so determined to side with the “Palestinians” and their Middle Eastern backers over the Jews in Israel that the left is siding with people who murder the other groups the left claims to love.

They never really believed any of that, only saw it as a vehicle to political power.

A perfect example of this disturbing, and backwards OCID problem can be summed up by these headlines as well.

2000: U.N. suspends aid flights to Sudan
Responds to government’s bombing of humanitarian relief planes

2000: One million threatened by suspension of Sudan’s relief lifeline

Sudan’s Ambassador Defends Expelling UN because they were “messing things up”

2004: 300,000 to actually starve to death…10,000 people have died, and a million made homeless…in Darfur….UN officials blame Sudan’s government, which they say supports the militias as they rape and kill Darfur’s people. (check the pictures of the starving in Darfur. Quite different than the “starving” of Gaza we constantly hear about)

2008: Death toll of 200,000 disputed in Darfur
Former U.N. chief says his estimate in 2006 is too low,

2009: U.N. Panel Deadlocks Over Taking Any Action on Sudan (Deadlocked? What? No UN non-binding resolutions?)

2009: UN agencies express concern over humanitarian aid crisis in Sudan. (what? no “condemnation”?)

2009: UN short nearly $5bn for aid projects as global recession hits donations.. (in the article they call out “Palestine” as one country needing the most, but applaud Sudan as needing less…but only because they canceled aid completely there under violence)

2009: Sudan – Complex Emergency (What? No international conferences where the US, EU offer billions)

2009: U.N. says paralysed in Sudan without aid partners…after UN expulsion.

    ___________

In Sudan there are 300,000+ dead, thousands more to starve to death, millions made homeless, tens of thousands raped and murdered, all aid suspended because of actual attacks on UN, and Governments bombing aid planes….but the US, EU, “peace groups” and World wring their hands over Israel building 4 apartment buildings or Jews one home.

The Israel hating left and the Muslims are just attempting to finish off what the Nazis tried to do. Ironically enough, out of those three groups, the Nazis are without a doubt the least dangerous of the three groups today, simply because their numbers are so small and they are pretty much marginalized. The Israel hating left and the Muslims often get together and collaborate when it comes to their shared, common cause which is Jew hatred and getting rid of Israel.

My own take is that the Left takes great pride in its ability to gather a lot of mutually hostile groups under its wing, and bend them to its (the Left’s) own purposes.

Note that in this country, the Left has pride of ownership of Blacks, Hispanics, Gays, and white Blue-collar union types — plus a substantal minority of Jews. I offer as an example Prop 8 in California and the fact that the majority of Hispanics and Blacks voted against it, to the chagrin of Gay Rights groups, who promptly attacked…. the Mormons. Note that the Blue collar white Democrats were the ones who in polls showed hostility to Obama’s race, (NOT white conservatives, who were totally obsessed with Obama’s Stalinism.)

The Muslims are just one more “minority” to be absorbed into the great Leftist “Family”, thinks the Left. (The Muslims, I am willing to bet, see the Left and all their peon groups as future converts to be absorbed into the Ummah. If nothing else, it will be like the Battle of Stalingrad, where any decent person would root for both sides to lose.)

Islam uses Israel as a red herring. It keeps the relatively minor ( in terms of deaths ) conflict on the front page in order to divert from the massive amount of death and destruction the the worldwide jihad is responsible for.
On any given day, Islam slaughters more people than the total deaths attributed to the Israel-arab conflict over a period of months.

Gaza: The most inefficient “genocide” ever committed against mankind?

The population of the Gaza Strip increased by almost 40% between 1997 and 2007, according to the results of a Palestinian census.

The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics estimated the annual growth rate at 3.3% and said the population would double in 21 years at that rate.

The UN estimates the world’s current average population growth at 1.17%.

The actual genocide in Darfur, or as was attempted in Kurdistan however, the world is silent about.

Interestingly, when I was looking through the Darfur links, I noticed mention of Sudan building homes for the refugees to take them out of their “camps”. The UN was for it there, but the refugees against it. The Phakestinians however (after 60+ years…still call their homes “camps” and the UN recognizes them as such)

    This is what’s happening now.

Total control of the media and building on both pre-existing prejudices and hopes and fears permitted the German people to walk down the road to moral degradation. But it is important to remember that they did not leap direct from prejudice expressed in the parlor to building gas chambers; it was a process of individual moral steps, each of which paved the way for the next, worse step.

The overheated rhetoric and street fights of the late ’20s and early ’30s gave the Nazis a toehold in the Reichstag; manipulation of the democratic process allowed Hitler to consolidate his power sufficiently to take the steps necessary to seize control. From there it took an unending barrage of propaganda, coupled with legal (jiggered, perhaps, but formally legal) and extra-legal intimidation to get the discriminatory Nuremberg laws passed and accepted. The camp system began as political detention, progressed to slave labor and, with the war, became the platform for building camps whose only purpose was to kill.

I mention this progression because there are elements of the same social breakdown visible in the US today. Political violence in the form of propaganda (think Olbermann) and in the form of physical intimidation (SEIU thugs, Black Panthers with clubs at polling places); a one-note media overwhelmingly pushing a particular point of view; steps taken by those holding legal office which are designed more than anything else to consolidate their own power and to intrude upon the lives of citizens.

This is not about “comparing Obama to Hitler”—it is about the similarities in breakdown of the social and political culture between 1930s Germany and now. There are many differences, of course—different time, different country—but the parallels are also striking.

    “Israel/Arab Conflict” -- Since 2000, Phakestinians dead?: 6,349. (this # includes terrorists)

Feminist Naomi Wolf now sees burqas as “liberating”…

Naomi Wolf Discovers That Shrouds Are Sexy — Women in chadors are really feminist ninja warriors. Rather than allow themselves to be gawked at by male strangers, they choose to defeat the “male gaze” by hiding from it in plain view.

But don’t you worry: Beneath that chador, abaya, burqa, or veil, there is a sexy courtesan wearing “Victoria Secret, elegant fashion, and skin care lotion,” just waiting for her husband to come home for a night of wild and sensuous marital lovemaking.

Obviously, these are not my ideas. I am quoting from a piece by Naomi Wolf that appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald a few days ago. Yes, Wolf is the bubbly, feminist author who once advised Vice President Al “The Climate” Gore on what colors he should wear while campaigning and who is or was friendly with Gore’s daughter. Full disclosure: I have casually known Wolf and her parents for more than a quarter-century.

Wolf recently traveled to Morocco, Jordan, and Eygpt, where she found the women “as interested in allure, seduction, and pleasure as women anywhere in the world.” Whew! What a relief. She writes:

“Many Muslim women I spoke with did not feel at all subjugated by the chador or the headscarf. On the contrary, they felt liberated from what they experienced as the intrusive, commodifying, basely sexualizing Western gaze. … Many women said something like this: …’how tiring it can be to be on display all the time. When I wear my headscarf or chador, people relate to me as an individual, not an object; I feel respected.’ This may not be expressed in a traditional Western feminist set of images, but it is a recognizably Western feminist set of feelings.”

Really? If so, I’m the Queen of England.

Burqa, Hijab are sexy, liberating: Naomi Wolf

Something of that nature is very far indeed from happening here, if ever—and if I may say so, it is somewhat overwrought to suggest it would. Even the Nazi regime never quite got that open—indeed, when the Nazis sought to deport Jews who had intermarried with Germans from Berlin, a public demonstration by the non-Jewish spouses forced the government to back down.

It is far more important to note each of the tiny little steps that lead in the direction of something so blatant. It’s not the bounty-hunters you need to worry about:

It’s the people who want to use Jew-hate to manipulate the population to support something egregious in the way of a restriction on liberty, an intrusion into privacy, a confiscation of property.

It’s the people who pervert the Holocaust and the memory of people murdered solely on the basis of their ancestry by pretending the death camps were the same as the slave camps, and that the death camps weren’t built specifically as “the Final Solution to the Jewish problem.”

It’s the people who pervert the memory of the Holocaust by trying to claim that the Israelis are “the new Nazis” when it is the Muslims who are recycling Nazi cartoons, calling openly for genocide, teaching children to kill and marching with Nazi salutes.

It’s the people who pervert the memory of the Holocaust by claiming that failure to give transgenders proportional representation on local school boards are perpetrating “a new Holocaust”—hardly a burlesque of some of the rhetoric we hear today.

These are the things that have to be worried about, argued about, and fought against—because it is fighting against these things, and only by such fighting, that we can ensure that the bounty fantasy will remain a fantasy.

Police: Man saying ‘I want to kill Jews’ removed from Miami flight

    By The Associated Press

    Tags: Israel News, Airline Terror

An airline passenger in Miami proclaimed “I want to kill all the Jews before police forced him off a Detroit-bound plane,” authorities said Thursday.

Mansor Mohammad Asad, 43, of Ohio, was arrested Wednesday night, according to a police department statement. Asad was charged with threats against a public servant, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer without violence.

FBI spokeswoman Judy Orihuela said there were no indications the disturbance was related to terrorism. The bureau was initially brought in to look into the incident but is no longer involved in the investigation. She said the FBI is treating the disruption as a matter for local authorities.

“no indications the disturbance was related to terrorism”--If he yelled he wanted to kill gays or transgendered people think it would still not be classified as terrorism?

Because Hamas set off rockets from UN building. But by all means don’t hold Hamas accountable, ask them for payoff, or just deduct it from their next UN welfare check.

And the elephant in the room is that UN personnel either directly aided Hamas in the attacks or “just” allowed their sites to be used as launching pads for rockets aimed at Jewish children. And then they have the nerve to ask Israel for money.

Property Rights used to mean something, but the government has more right to your property than you do, be it federal, state or local regulations.

And it is all about money. Pay enough for permits and let the authorities have enough say and you can do quite a bit with your property, just so long as you grease the right wheels.

It is legalized corruption. A permit is nothing more than a preemptive fine for doing what you have the right to do anyway.
