It has no place in a fight. I would include a political fight in that. The great Thomas Sowell goes further. Read his excellent critique of fairness:
If there is ever a contest to pick which word has done the most damage to people’s thinking, and to actions to carry out that thinking, my nomination would be the word “fair.” It is a word thrown around by far more people than have ever bothered to even try to define it.
This mushy vagueness may be a big handicap in logic but it is a big advantage in politics. All sorts of people, with very different notions about what is or is not fair, can be mobilized behind this nice-sounding word, in utter disregard of the fact that they mean very different things when they use that word.
Some years ago, for example, there was a big outcry that various mental tests used for college admissions or for employment were biased and “unfair” to many individuals or groups. Fortunately there was one voice of sanity– David Riesman, I believe– who said: “The tests are not unfair. LIFE is unfair and the tests measure the results.”
Amen. Readeth the whole thing, for it is good: The Fallacy of “Fairness”
Tags: Thomas Sowell, Townhall

Like most things corrupted by liberal emotionally based ideals, the problem with “fairness” usually comes down to the definition.
When I coached little league football I always enjoyed the discussion with parents who were mad that their 58 pound kid wasn’t put in against an opposing 130 pound lineman. “It isn’t fair” “Johnny practiced really hard”. Johnny is as good as that bigger kid”.
Johnny had the skill set – but life, unfairly, made him smaller than the other kids. You can’t fight physics! Likewise, families that never read in their homes or kids without a father have an inherent disadvantage to those that do.
It’s unfair to deny driver’s licenses to the blind.
This is an example of how the Left twists the meanings of words.
Seems to fall in with it being fair to grant an equality of opportunities, but ridiculous to grant equality of outcomes.
Speaking of fair, how again did Obama get into Columbia and Harvard? Transcripts, please?
Wah. My thread comes up just as I have to go into a meeting! It’s not fair!
Rodan wrote:
Additionally, I guess the question as well should be “fair to who?” In nearly all situations, what is fair to individual A is unfair to individual B.
In the sports example given above (# 2) although the parents believe it would only be fair to put little “Johnny” in because he practiced, it would be unfair to “Bobby” who also practiced, and who is equal in size to the person he has to guard on the line, and unfair to the rest of the team who would probably have to lose because the coach didn’t put in the best player.
So, again, what definition of “fair” are we going to use, and then thereafter “fair” to who? In discussing this, the word “Justice” continues to pop in my head as well, as I find the common discussion nowadays regarding “justice” to be equally upside down.
“Fair” is just another tool in the progs arsenal of control.
@ WrathofG-d:
Yup, they have changed the meanings.
Justice=taking from others.
Fair=give advantage to the unqualified.
@ vapig:
I like your Obama fist bump avatar!
I’d like to ask what is “fair” about me having to work my hinney off for over 30 years (and am quite content with my outcome, thank you) and having less “stuff” than those who have never worked a day in their lives who sit home drinking and bonging all day long because their ancestors may have been brought to this country against their will?

Coincidentally, Sowell wrote a book on that very subject a few years ago: The Quest for Cosmic Justice.

3) Pam argued a lot with Ron Reagan Jr about what Ronald Reagan would have thought about Palin. Even though Ron Jr and his dad didn’t see eye to eye it was a dumb thing for her to go after.
4) Pam also went a little off the reservation with some of her comments. This show is stacked towards the wacko liberal side of things and therefore is designed to make some on like Pam look silly. Just like Baher herself would look off-base on Sean Hannity, for example.

2. This evangelical pro-Israel talk is a little dangerous. Pro-semitism, if that’s a word, is as prejudicial as antisemitism. If we can’t waggle our finger at an ally for white phosphorus bombs or a certain apathy on controlling illegal settlers, then that’s irrational prejudice as much as hatin’ on the Jews, imho. It’s not unreasonable to support Israel while judging everyone’s behavior by the same standard. The center-left voices of the Knesset are not less pro-Israel than Bachmann.
What I never got about Israel is if we were trying to make up for the horrors of the holocaust, why we didn’t just give them a part of Germany…

why yes, yes i am. thank you. plus, the Sonoran Desert is beautiful and teeming with life. not like that freaking sand pit in the middle east.
@ NoThreat2U:
The family that wished her dead… and made it a reality. Yeah, we wouldn’t want to go against their wishes or anything.
@ Rodan:
Someone should check out where jamesfirecat’s IP adress is from.
My guess is Iran.
@ Rodan:
We were wondering when they were going to turn that corner. Here it comes.
@ Kirly:
Well hell, instead of giving them part of Germany, how about we just give them back THEIR OWN HOMELAND WHERE THEY LIVED FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS!!!!!!!!!
Well Israel bashing is now respectable at LGF. Funny it hurts to see that but we all predicted that.
It continues!
The goal should not be just to win, it should be to win while not giving up those grander things we were fighting for beyond survival.
That’s why I think we should lean on Israel if they do something “wrong” even if it might comparatively “less wrong” than what their opponents are doing.

@ Kirly:
Maybe I should have made my first statement a little clearer. You know what I meant about “desert” religion. Actually, I can’t think of any other way to say it? Any suggestions?
@ m:
Doesn’t that just chap your ass??? Oh it makes me so angry. Of all the nerve…….

Nice straw man Mr. fire cat has there. I wonder what would happen to it if it caught fire?

Yup. This is the moment that we were predicting. I’m a little surprised that it took this long, but February is the pivot month. By the end of Feb, they’re going to be another islamist blog. And Mearsheim and Walt are going to be scientific experts. And David Duke will be not all that bad.
@ Nevergiveup:
Notice how few people are coming down hard on the Isreal haters over there? This is a seminal moment in the swamp’s history. Two years ago we would’ve been all over that pos. Where are you lawhawk?

@ Speranza: yep it’s a shift. Shows how Charles wants to change. He is ok with himself altering his views. Charles is not ok with other people like Vlaams Beland changing their views. Bigotry at work at 1.0.
The mufti in Jerusalem seems more like a vassal of Hitler. An ally Hitler could use to prop up his work. He supported Hitler like Iceweasel supports Charles. Direct one to one comparison.
@ MikeA:
That’ll work!

Can we get the Mythbusters guys to try it out?

Let’s not forget that Charles applies ethereal definitions to the terms facism and rascism that only exist in his narrow ivory tower world. Adhering to them is an error in thought and not practical. Adhering to them and agreeing with them is a sign that the cult mentality is still at work in the poster. Far lefties might be the only people with the same definitions.
@ NoThreat2U:
You are wrong. I read the whole “dossier” of the Mufti in Germany. The Mufti didn’t have much – if any – influence to Hitler. The Nazis were well aware that the Mufti played dirty work with Germany vs. Italy.
Yeah I know that Anderson Cooper is of a certain persuasion.
Ironic isn’t it that he introduced a homosexual term?
@ RIX:
This shows that Chucky does not care about facts. He is good book with references. Chucky has a feeling in his pants (and a small one at that) and thinks its the truth cause “He knows”…

Mr. Rachel Maddow also loves that term.
@ RIX:
Back in the day only evolution and abortion were forbidden (and nobody was banned for bringing it up, it was just asked that we not discuss them because there are plenty of places for that). Schiavo was added to the list later.
My how things have changed…
@ SciFiGuy:
Only for the Navy. It’s back to rum, sodomy, and the lash for them!
@ Guggi:
I’m not so much worried about who influenced who. My main point is that they were both working towards the same goal. I am sure there was some back and forth between the two as to how to best achieve the Final Solution. The Mufti didn’t want the Jews to flee to “Palestine”…….but then he said sure why not..we can build the camps like you have. Problem solved.
**Just because I can’t let it go**
Ya know, talking about “against the family’s wishes” in regards to the girl with no grave. Those jokers at 1.0 are the first to bitch if someone doesn’t have their child vaccinated. They feel they should be compelled to vax the kids. Isn’t that “against the family’s wishes”? Or is it different because they say so??
@ Guggi:
The Mufti was a Bandwagon jumper. He saw the Nazis were a means to an end and joined them.
@ NoThreat2U:
Can we just agree that they were both scum, both wanted a “final solution” to the jewish question and both are burning in hell together.
If anything, Hitler was influence by the Turks slaughter of the Armenians since the League of Nations did squat to stop it or even care.

I found it only fair to jump in here, and give credit where it was due. Although these statements are not coming directly from LGF, I never imagined that LGF would see these types of blatant wedge-type talking points for Anti-Israelism coming out of LGF. If this were another site where the Main-Loozard didn’t micromanage everything, and wasn’t quick to delete everything he didn’t like, I would give it the benefit of the doubt. In some ways because of the complete editorial control “charles” has over his blog, a statements remaining on the site is almost agreement.
Et tu LGF? It seems you were more right than I was Rodan, LGF going Anti-Israel is possible.

@ WrathofG-d:
Leftists hate Israel and are obsessed with it. I can understand Jews being interested in Israeli issues and discussing it frequently. It’s your Homeland so there’s a natural connection. But these Leftists think Israel is the center of every issue facing humanity. They think the world revolves areound Israeli actions. With the Blog’s shift to the Left, these opinions would appear.
Watch for more Israel bashing!
@ WrathofG-d:
We knew that was going to happen. with the kind of control that Charles excercizes over the comments now, you can be assured that those are his thoughts, just spoken through a surrogate. Like KKKilgore Trout at Hot Air.

Indeed. Before he was Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, he was a pan-Syrian. Before the British broke Syria and Lebanon off from the British occupied Levant, he was agitating for “Greater Syria”, to include all of the Levant including Iraq. Once the Brits gave North Levant to the French, He agitated for independent “Palestine”. He was always an opportunist, and wanted as much power as he could get his fingers on. He didn’t believe in much of anything.

@ Rodan:
These statements made by the Loozard are not new, and are typical Anti-Israel talking points.
If he had something unique to say other than a rehashed “the Jews run our government”, we must criticize Israel but not the Arab/Muslims, and the Jews used White Phosphorous (and other false statements, but anti-Israel talking points) I would give a bit more rope.
These comments however are no different than the claims you can read on KOS, DU, ISM tracts, or other blatant Anti-Israel/Anti-Semitic websites. Ironic that Mr. “everyone is a Nazi but me” is allowing statements regarding Israel that you could easily find on Stormfront.
Does anyone happen to know how these comments (if at all) were responded to by the other Loozards?
The Protocols of the LGF.
This dsent into anti-Israeli sentiment on the part of Husky was
predictible as he sinks deeper into leftist lunacy.
Letting these comments go on LGF is just the beginning.
LGF will shortly be an anti-Israel hate blog imo.
@ Nevergiveup:
