Happy Valentines Day! Now, Be A Man!

Filed under Judaism, Political Correctness, Religion, World at February 14th, 2010 - 4:30 pm

Over the years, the concept of love has been spun, twisted, leaned, and pruned into nothing more than a base emotion.  The shame of this is that it leaves the human as nothing more than an animal responding to our emotions and base instincts, and ignoring our heads.    A bi-product of this multi-year incremental destruction of our beings is the withering away of the man, and as a result the woman, the family, and ultimately society as a whole.

So, boys….grow up, show some love and BE A MAN!

Every few years, the media tells us new ideas about what a man should be.   For a while there was “sensitive new age guy.” Then there was “metrosexual” and advice that men need to develop their feminine side.

I’ve heard married men advise younger men that the key to a happy marriage is:  “Yes, dear.”   [Nearly every television commercial] ridicule men, [and the actual programming are not much better.]

On television, we’ve gone from Father Knows Best, where the father was a wise caring man who could do no wrong, to Homer Simpson, a buffoon who can do nothing right. Does Homer actually influence what people think a man should be? In a recent survey in Canada by the research firm Ipsos-Reid, more than 25 percent of fathers aged 18 to 34 identify with Homer Simpson when they’re talking to their kids about a difficult subject, and almost 20 percent of adult children in the same age range associate their own father with Homer.

With so many confusing ideas, …wisdom on what a man should be in a relationship [has become increasingly necessary].   …  [It is not surprising then that some of the best advice regarding what a man should be comes from Genesis] and Adam — the first man in the world who was in a relationship.  Adam was alone. He wanted a wife. He asked God for a wife and God created Eve to be an “ezer k’negdo” — a helper opposing him or a helper against him (Genesis, 2:18).

A helper against him? What in the world does that mean? Simply, it means that …If a man works on himself and develops himself to be worthy, the woman will be his partner. If he doesn’t, she will be against him.

My search led me to discover a lot of timeless wisdom that for generations fathers taught their sons — wisdom that is so relevant today. Today’s absent father, either from long hours of work or divorce, means many boys grow up without a strong male role model.

Here are five … lessons… on what a man in a relationship should be:

Lesson #1: Take responsibility

… Don’t do things you know are wrong and then blame others. If you make a mistake, take responsibility for your actions.  One of the meanings of the word “husband” is someone who skillfully manages his household. A manager takes responsibility. …A man has to look at himself and see how he can change his own actions to properly handle similar situations.

Lesson #2: Show leadership

If a man wants to be seen as worthy and have a good relationship with a woman, he has to show leadership.  When he sees a situation that needs to be dealt with, he should step forward and handle it. People admire those who step forward to handle difficult situations. We don’t admire those who stand back and wait for others to solve the problem.

Some men avoid taking the lead because they don’t want to be criticized. They think they’re playing it safe. A man should say, “I’ll handle it,” and take the initiative to find solutions. If he’s not sure what the solution is, do what other leaders do — consult the many sources of information available.

Lesson #3: Make decisions

One of the meanings of the word “manly” is being decisive.  A man needs to make decisions and take responsibility for the outcome.  If he’s reluctant to make decisions, she may resent him.  Part of making decisions is understanding the other person’s views and being flexible.  She doesn’t want someone controlling her, but she also doesn’t want someone who leaves every decision to her.  A man who is afraid of making a wrong decision should ask himself: Who should make decisions? — someone who isn’t afraid of making mistakes.

Lesson #4: Be strong

Who is strong?  He who can control his passions (Ethics of the Fathers, 4:1). Someone who can control his anger is better than a physically strong man who can conquer a city. Blowing up in anger can seriously damage a relationship.  If a man thinks he can’t control his anger, he should imagine being angry at someone, the telephone rings and it’s his boss. Would he calm down? Of course, or he’d lose his job.  Not getting angry doesn’t mean he accepts bad treatment; he calmly sets limits on the treatment he accepts from others.

Lesson #5: Be manly

Being manly is not being macho.  Manliness is the positive qualities of decisiveness, strength in one’s convictions, confidence, self-reliance, high moral qualities, self discipline, honesty and integrity. A man who is manly has courage to be able to deal with difficulty, pain or danger without backing away despite his fear…

But the other side of that coin is that women have to also stop confusing themselves, and decide what is important, also. Too many women have left men who are as you describe in the above article for some “bad boy”, who treats her like crap, and she won’t leave. We need to think clearly about this all around.

My pet peeve is the tweenie-bopper hooker look that is so popular these days. WTF are parents thinking? 14 year old girls don’t have the money to go into a sex shop and buy an outfit. Momma and daddy are involved in there somewhere. Do they really think that having their daughter looking like s stripper in public is a good idea?

You’d be surprised at the amount of money being showered on kiddies these days; I know I am.

When I was in high school, back in the late Jurassic, everyone walked to school or took the bus, save a handful of nerds like myself who braved the public derision and rode bicycles. Students were not allowed to drive to school, even if they were among the lucky few who owned (or, more likely, merely had access to) an automobile.

My old high school recently built a parking lot to accommodate the students’ cars, because they were cluttering up all the side streets for blocks around. The community the high school serves is the same size it always was; buses still run; legs, we are told, still work. But the rules—and the amount of money given to the kiddies—have changed.

I heard a talk show guy yesterday say that our society has become overly casual and immature. This applies to men and women in relationships obviously, but his point was – it might be impossible to elect a statesman like Regan ever again because of what we have become as a society and explains why obama was elected.

I see these as traditional values or conservative values which are the bane of our existence. If only these and the people who hold them could be cast off, all our problems are solved.

Iron, part of the problem is that many girls who are 13 or 14 are already very physically mature IYKWIM. My daughter is very slim and tall. The clothes she wears look very different on her than her shorter, heavier and curvier friends. I’m not making excuses, just mentioning something I have noticed.

OT…this woman was either lucky or the investigations into her were superficial:

Several months after a federal investigation into the Harvard medical professor’s attempted bombing a prime suspect was identified, but never named.

An unnamed law enforcement official told the Globe Sunday the suspect was Bishop, and her husband.

At the time, Bishop was a Harvard doctoral student working at the same hospital as Rosenberg.

The official told the Globe Bishop was suspected because she was allegedly concerned she was going to be given a bad evaluation from the professor on her doctorate work.

Her house was searched and she and her husband were questioned, but the U.S. attorney’s office in Boston never brought charges against the couple, the Globe reported.

I’m 100% confident that the climate has warmed. As to the second question, I would go along with IPCC Chapter 9 – there’s evidence that most of the warming since the 1950s is due to human activity.

    There’s evidence. Hmmm. But then:

N – When scientists say “the debate on climate change is over”, what exactly do they mean – and what don’t they mean?

It would be supposition on my behalf to know whether all scientists who say the debate is over are saying that for the same reason. I don’t believe the vast majority of climate scientists think this. This is not my view.

    just a little AGW update

Jones admitted this weekend that there has been no significant global warming in the last 15 years.

But, that didn’t stop these fraudsters from bilking the EU and US for £800,000 ($1,253,624.84) annually for the last 20 years.

Over the last 20-year period, CRU’s budget has been an average of £800,000 per annum which comes from various sources, mainly research grants but also from the European Union and from the US Department of Energy, which has helped fund Prof Jones’ work

who the hell can we sue to get that money back?

There’s a lot of unfocused anger on the right wing these days. But in the case of climate change, it’s the old anti-government, anti-internationalist streak flaring up again. Climate change hits the hot buttons because any real solutions are going to require international cooperation on a scale we haven’t seen before, and possibly even compromises to some extent on national sovereignty — and both of those issues are anathema to the right.

    now this is something
any of you smart legal types seen this?

Tea Party activists might be smarter than some would like to think. And depending upon the outcome of a court case later this month, they might also play a role in setting legal precedent

When New Jersey state election officials denied their submission to initiate a recall effort against U.S. Senator Robert Menendez, calling it unconstitutional, a grass-roots recall committee’s constitutional instincts kicked into full gear. Attorneys for the committee, themselves Tea Party activists, filed to appeal the agency decision and began writing their supporting brief.

Meanwhile, seemingly everyone was now weighing in as a legal expert. Some insist the decision is simple: NJ has no constitutional authority to recall a US Senator; despite what its state constitution says, that authority is reserved for the federal government alone. For weeks now, legal scholars, political pundits and the media have been chattering online about the case, now before the Appellate Division in the Superior Court of New Jersey, some treating it more like a sideshow and an outlet to take pot shots at Tea Partiers than a legitimate court proceeding with real constitutional significance

Of course. Foster thinks that bowing to other heads of state is no problemo, since our POTUS is not really doing what the pics show him really doing. And Foster, with his actions of late, is doing the same thing. Bowing to the Left. We all saw what that has done for him with his touted, regaled and anticipated NYT rag article that he somehow thought would bring him into the lefty fold.

Chunk could never win on a level playing field which is why Walter has to fight with one hand tied behind his back and can’t link to anything Chunk deems ‘tainted’. I’m surprised that was the only condition because Walter could prevail and I can’t imagine Chunk going into something where the outcome wasn’t assured to be in his favor. Chunk will, of course, declare himself the winner no matter what happens and just ban Walter and his memory for all eternity.

Not necesarilly to prove that AGW is not happenning, but enough to show that the data is flawed and manipulated.
    It was granted,
LGF is going to take credit for Walters’ work.

Walter, likes the discussions afforded at Lgf, two or three people banging our customs and the parties involved.
A couple of “on the fringe” posters somehow hanging on like him for the sake of just being allowed to post.
Well Walter apparently has not had the experience to deal with multiple Religions, parties, and genders coming full bore at you, fully capable people, disagreeing with you, all in one thread.
None agreeing to pile on, beforehand. None using the foul language prevalent on LGF now.

Walter would do well to post his findings here, his work is likely to be ridiculed otherwise.

Here is the proof to my last post.

This individual in effect telling LGF how the ball bounces.
Influencing what it considers an inferior, maleable person to keep on supporting the meme.

The short rundown on tomorrow is that Walter has claimed there are problems with the code and will be posting some 23K words about that.
His initial claim was that this would show errors in the results, and CJ has called him on that.
Walter has been walking that claim back.

Expect a tremendous treatise on coding errors, to be rebutted very briefly with “Where are the errors in the results? Where are the errors in the conclusions?”

This is the projected synopsis of the thread to come; there will be many, many sideline objections and arguments made on both sides of the debate, but keep your eye on the ball. ;)

If Walter posts any essay on LGF, one that took him all weekend long, only to be ridiculed, he is in fact a fool.
