Who is Farouk Shami?

by Speranza ( 291 Comments › )
Filed under Democratic Party, Elections 2010, Progressives at February 14th, 2010 - 2:00 pm

He is a Palestinian-American business man (from Ramallah) who is running for the Democratic nomination for Governor of Texas that’s who. According to wikipedia “His company, the Houston-based Farouk Systems, currently employs 2,000 Americans, and exports its line of hair and skin care products under the BioSilk, SunGlitz and Cationic Hydration Interlink (CHI) brands to over 50 countries worldwide.  Shami is a member of the board of the American Task Force on Palestine.”  He also is a 9/11 Troofer and an anti white racist.  Is anyone surprised as to his political affiliation?

Using the infamous 6 degrees of separation logic that one CF Johnson likes to employ – the Democratic Party is therefore racist.

Shami says whites unwilling to take on jobs in factories

by Gromer Jeffers

Democratic candidate for governor Farouk Shami said Friday that white people are not willing to work in factories and as a result, Hispanic labor is essential to the Texas economy.

Shami, a Houston hair care magnate, made the statements during a taping of Inside Texas Politics, which airs at 9 a.m. Sunday on WFAA-TV (Channel Eight)

“A majority of the people are going to be Hispanic and African-American,” he said. “You don’t find white people who are willing to work in factories. And our history proves lots of time when … the white people come to work in a factory they either want to be supervisors or they want to be paid more than the average person. And unfortunately they exit.”

Later, Shami told another interviewer – seeking his reactions on comments made by Republican candidate Debra Medina – that a conspiracy of government involvement in the Sept. 11 attacks was possible.

In between campaign stops in Dallas, the front-runner in the race, former Houston Mayor Bill White, denounced Shami’s assessment of white workers.

“I don’t know what Mr. Shami was talking about,” White said. “Texas is too good for stereotypes. Everybody is made in the image of God.”

Becky Moeller, president of the Texas AFL-CIO, also said Shami was wrong.

[...]

Shami has even criticized White for touting his birthplace, San Antonio, suggesting that doing so was a thinly veiled slap at Shami’s Palestinian roots.

During the forum, Shami responded to a question about illegal immigration by saying: “A day without Mexicans is a day without sunshine.”

There is no way in hell that even Democrats in Texas (outside of Austin) would vote for a Palestinian.

I’ll never understand why courageous war heroes like McCain turn into “please love me”, spineless sissies when they get into the political realm. Generals are political animals by nature, which, with few exceptions turn into jellyfish once they enter politics. But McCain? He should know better, he’s faced the enemies “up close and personal” and has the scars and disabilities to prove it. When he was in the Navy, he was more of a loose cannon than a politician.

    WTF happened to him?

    The inmates are getting frisky:

    32 Ojoe Sun, Feb 14, 2010 10:02:38am

OT: Whig Party Update. From the Executive Committee of the Modern Whig Party:

To the members of the Modern Whig Party,

The Whig Party revival began as a series of political discussions among deployed American service members serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. When these men and women returned home, they realized that there is a substantial need for a mainstream, non-fringe political movement that caters to individuals that are not defined by ideology but rather common sense fiscal responsibility, strong national defense and a focus on education/scientific advancement over strict social issues among other items. After a brief stint as an advocacy organization on behalf of military families, the Modern Whig movement ultimately branched out to Americans from all walks of life. At one point, the party was deemed the “fastest growing mainstream political movement in the nation.”

It has now been one year since the official and recognized revival of the national modern Whig movement (although the bricks were being laid and many of you joined prior to that date). In that time, this grassroots organization has been recognized by numerous outlets as a potentially viable mainstream voice for those described above. At the same time, fringe groups and elements from the entrenched parties recognized the threat that a moderate, non-fringe national political movement can become and ultimately incited numerous attacks and threats both internally and publicly. But on this Presidents Day 2010, we are here to let everyone know that the Modern Whig Party is still standing and on the move.

Over the past several months, state and national leadership have been busy solidifying the foundation and substance in order to compete as a viable and mainstream political movement. As we have always said to our thousands of members, we are not delusional as to the road ahead, but rather optimistic that a solid message, foundation and savvy will serve to continue getting the word out. The mission of this movement was always to operate methodically and gradually in order to ultimately sustain viability and longevity. What happened was that the party actually grew too fast as massive influxes of people flooded our systems at various times. The result was that this young, moderate revived movement did not have the infrastructure in place to handle the load. That is now changing.

    (snip)

Chuckle. Snorttle. Sniqueer. And these are the same clowns who call the Tea Party movement “fringe”.

    18 Killgore Trout Sun, Feb 14, 2010 12:03:12pm replyquote

    re: #9 pharmmajor

Hey guys, I need to ask a little advice. Too often when I get in a heated political discussion and the person I’m arguing with falls back on partisan rhetoric or refuses to acknowledge facts that disproves their claims, I resort to calling them “sheep.” It happens whether I’m arguing with a left-winger or a right-winger, and it ends up cheapening my side of the discussion. How can I avoid falling into this trap?

Don’t try to win an argument, prove the other person wrong or change their mind. Just explain why you think the way you do. Trying to win is the surest way to lose and simply explaining yourself is the best way to convince your opponent.

Iran is supporting religious freedom again. Mohammedan religious freedom:

    Iran detains 5 more Baha’i
    2010-02-14 14:24

Tehran – Iranian authorities detained five more members of the Baha’i minority, a hard-line newspaper reported on Sunday.

The daily Javan newspaper, which has ties to the elite Revolutionary Guards, reported that the five included Niki Khanjani, who is the daughter of Jamaloddin Khanjani, one of seven Baha’i leaders jailed since 2008 on charges of harming national security.

The report did not describe the current charges, but said many Baha’is have escaped to neighbouring countries and the remote border areas of Iran after allegedly fomenting post election unrest.

Aren’t they tolerant? Uncleanch, I say, uncleanch! Speaking of Baha’i, anyone seen Karridine lately? I know he was in Thailand, and they have their own restive Mohammedans…

And henceforth your account is blocked. You’ll dog

My site no further with your words; your nic

Is banished, and I gave your posts the stick.

You know I’ll call your banning here a “flounce”
Though I’ve been waiting for some time to pounce
On your account, and with prevarications
    Distort and demonize your observations.
The Toad Hall where you reveled, if you please’ll
Be given entire to the stoats and weasels,

My countenance beaming on each one that
Comes to me bearing tales of Mole or Rat,

Or Badger, or…sockpuppet. No, ‘t was not

This writing only, placed you on the spot

And caused me to invoke the ban: perhaps

You chanced to differ with my own claptrap
And stick to your position, or dispute
    Conventional wisdoms to which repute

I’ve lately granted. Don’t you dare to say

That I or my site might have lost their way
    Obsessing on my personal vendettas;

I am neither forgiving nor forgetter,

And will not brook a failure of obesiance

By anyone I feel owes me allegiance.
Yes, I took Rather down, on grounds that he
    Could not support what he claimed factually;
But now I set my sights at lower bar
(On personalities, not things that are)
While I squat ‘midst the wreckage I have made
Like mad Kurtz ruling from his bush stockade,
Ringed ’round with skulls. For I no longer deign
To weigh a fact itself; instead, maintain

That source determines truth, and to that end
The nature of veracity I bend,
Citing to midden-heaps of rankness such

That I would not long since have scorned to touch.

A turtle is a lizard in a shell,
And I, lord of my self-created hell

Remain King Yertle of the Turtle Stack

Exalted on my Posting Turtles’ backs–
Yet conscious, as I proclaim my renown

It’s just posting turtles, all the way down,

Which is why I respond with rage and fear

Should anyone mouth what I deem a sneer

Or contradiction. So I flip a switch,
And all posts stop together, with a bitch

Given reign of my elegant designs.

Yet, if I still retained but half a spine

I would despise appearing to be led

As I now seem to, by the lesser head.

Hark! Look you! See how Glenn Beck weeps!

Do you not loathe the company he keeps
Regardless of whatever he might say?
    Here is the global warming word today;

Do not dissent, the banning stick is toward
I care for no voice save that of accord!

Indeed, it was nasty and deadhearted. To make public what is going on behind the scene in private emails is not defensible. But at that point ice must have already taken over sharmutas role on the blog because how could she know that sharmuta had written emails to Charles about her and jimmah ? Either she has access to CJ’s email-account (unlikely) or CJ informed ice about the emails. Anyway also that outing was scandalous and hurting the privacy of emails sent to CJ. Nobody should sent him emails anymore because no one knows who is reading them and maybe using them against the sender.

There was a link in the over night thread but it seems the relevant link at jimmahs twitter account has been deleted. Wow.

    re: #267 Sharmuta

After much contemplation, weasel, I decided to give this comment a ding down, because it is not your place to tell me or anyone else what is or is not “fitting” for their profile quotes since this isn’t your blog.

I’d also ask you to stop posting comments to me with your false concern and/or respect for me, since you have neither for me, and we both know this, or at least I have known this since learning you asked my friends to let me starve when I needed help.

I think it’s a bad idea to have a Catholic saint as your avatar while also quoting a murderous, genocidal fuck who specialised in persecuting Irish Catholics, like me.
    And Scots, like Jimmah.
I don’t blame you for being embarrassed about it. Decent people would be. And you’re not even a Catholic.

And as for your total distortion of events there, let’s say this: I think it’s a bad idea for a ‘fiscal conservative’ to expect to be given — not lent — money on a demand basis every six weeks, while refusing or being disinterested in all offers of practical help: resume writing, getting back into school, legal clinics, food pantries, and more.

But then, I also think it’s a bad idea to hate someone who wanted to help you, and merely objected to the idea of giving you money all the time. Or to carry on a vendetta against them for it.
Bring on your downdings, St Sharmuta of Duh. But maybe you should be spending a little more time planning your resume or your school plans, so that you aren’t in need of such ‘help’ (i.e. gifts of money) every few weeks, and a little less time ‘seriously considering’ when and where to downding me.

    re: #267 Sharmuta

Sharmuta, as you know I am one of those you asked iceweasel to approach for money for you.

Both iceweasel and I were genuinely concerned about your well-being, but as a rule I do not give money to people I only ‘know’ from the internet, especially when it seems to me that it’s not ultimately serving any purpose except allowing someone to put off making some urgent decisions and changes in their life. Iceweasel felt the same way.

To characterize iceweasel’s thoughts and feelings on this as wanting to let you starve is a disgraceful lie. You should be deeply ashamed of yourself for this and the way you have behaved towards iceweasel since that time.

You are right I’ve misread it:

No one ever said L.G.F., or any blog, had to be about the free exchange of ideas. “It’s his sandbox,” Pamela Geller says simply. “He can do whatever he wants.” Still, if you read L.G.F. today, you will find it hard to miss the paradox that a site whose origins, and whose greatest crisis, were rooted in opposition to totalitarianism now reads at times like a blog version of “Animal Farm.”
