Thomas Jefferson was one of the most overrated presidents we ever had. His major accomplishment – the Louisiana Purchase – pretty much fell into his lap. He betrayed his good friend John Adams when Adams was president. As Governor of Virginia during the Revolution he was so awful he was nearly censured by the Virginia House of Burgesses.

    @ Speranza:

He also founded the Democrat Party. It is hard to get more disreputable than that…

A talkshow host last night was talking about how some hispanic politicians are fighting to keep illegal aliens included in the reform bill.

Some woman called in, she was all over the place about “free” health care and when he asked how she felt that illegal aliens would have the same opportunities as everyone, the woman started screaming how there is no such thing as illegal or alien and that everyone is born human.

She obviously hasn’t seen this photo of Nancy Pelosie. The comments on this one are great. I especially liked the one who said that this was shot just before her prehensile toung with the miniture teeth came out and she started fighting Sigourny Weaver…

Does not Illegal means they should not be here? These so called Hispanic Politicians are tools for their Progressive overlords. They accept their slave status in the Progressive Racial Heirachy.

    @ Rodan:

I’m interested to see what Washington State does with the Democrats who are trying to pass an Income Tax. They’re all good little progressives up there so I’m sure they will want to pay their fair share. Here in Tennessee a few years ago our RINO governor thought he was going to impose a State income tax on us and he just about had a taxpayer’s revolt on his hands. The legislature, aware of the rope supply and the availability of lamp posts declined to back him on it. Thus, we have no income tax today. Go us! The political rats listen when it is their jobs and their lives on the line. I wonder if the political rats in congress will listen to the sound of the multitude when considering ObamaCare this week?

Thomas Jefferson fought America’s first war overseas and won against Jihadists.

He fought against the Barbary Pirates who weren’t really pirates but rather conventional Muslims who attacked civilians in transit (while people are at their most vulnerable, like on 9/11) and held them for ransom while stealing cargo and possession on board the ships.

The Barbary Pirates did this for roughly 1000 years while European countries paid them tribute (protection money) when possible to get them to leave their countries’ civilian vessels alone.

While Thomas Jefferson was living in Europe during America’s early years, he met with the representatives of those asking for tribute and asked them why they would want to attack America’s civilian ships when America was a new country that hadn’t done anything to them.

They responsed by telling Jefferson about the “jihad.”

Thomas Jefferson went to war against them after he became president.

In the years after the war, European countries started colonies in these areas to finish off the Barbary Pirate business for good.

The Somali pirates of today are a throwback to that era. They attack civilian vessels to take hostages and steal cargo. They do it as ordinary Muslims, not pirates with peg legs and parrots.

The Wall Street Journal has a wonderful and scathing article against Obama for his administration’s verbal attacks on Israel.

    Israel’s press is taking notice:

In response, the Wall Street Journal op-ed wrote that the Obama administration “has endorsed ‘healthy relations’ between Iran and Syria, mildly rebuked Syrian President Bashar Assad for accusing the US of ‘colonialism,’ and publicly apologized to Muammar Gadhafi for treating him with less than appropriate deference after the Libyan called for ‘a jihad’ against Switzerland.”

However, when it comes to Israel, “the administration has no trouble rising to a high pitch of public indignation,” wrote the article entitled “Obama’s Turn Against Israel.”

Not even “repeated apologies from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prevented Secretary of State Hillary Clinton—at what White House sources ostentatiously said was the personal direction of President Obama—from calling the announcement ‘an insult to the United States,’” stated the opinion piece.

“Since nobody is defending the Israeli announcement, least of all an obviously embarrassed Israeli government, it’s difficult to see why the Administration has chosen this occasion to spark a full-blown diplomatic crisis with its most reliable Middle Eastern ally… If Israel senses that the Administration is looking for any pretext to blow up relations, it will care much less how the US might react to a military strike on Iran.’

The financial newspaper took an opposite stance on West Bank settlements than that adopted by the Obama administration: “As for the West Bank settlements, it is increasingly difficult to argue that their existence is the key obstacle to a peace deal with the Palestinians. Israel withdrew all of its settlements from Gaza in 2005, only to see the Strip transform itself into a Hamas statelet and a base for continuous rocket fire against Israeli civilians.”

“This episode does fit Mr. Obama’s foreign policy pattern to date: Our enemies get courted; our friends get the squeeze. It has happened to Poland, the Czech Republic, Honduras and Colombia. Now it’s Israel’s turn,” quipped the Wall Street Journal.

WSJ’s site is subscriber only, but here’s the article about it on YnetNews: Wall Street Journal: Why is Obama against Israel?

That’s news to me, but I haven’t been paying close attention, either. Donkeys have been wanting that for longer than I’ve been alive, but it requires a constitutional amendment. Even if they wanted to do a political kamikaze attack, I think there still enough R’s in the east to prevent it.

But maybe I should start checking out real estate in Idaho, anyway.

    @ snork:

    Here in the article:

Soak the Rich, Keep the Change
    By Jeremy Lott

Do Washington state Democrats have a death wish? That’s the question many locals must be asking after the Democrat-controlled Senate held hearings last Thursday, with little notice, packed with supporters for a new bill that would impose a statewide income tax.

They tried to sell the proposal as a populist measure. The tax would only apply to wealthy earners and it would allow the state government to reduce the sales tax. By bringing the bill up so late in the legislative session – business is supposed to be completed by this Thursday – the Dems were not seriously trying to pass the bill. So why bring it up at all?

I missed the part in bold when I wrote that. still, were i you I’d be keeping my eye on them. We narrowly missed having an income tax several years ago. It would have gone through except for widespread protests.
