If I remember correctly from reading other papers, the state conferred citizenship on my uncle at the turn of the century, not the federal government.
I don’t know this particular tenured Latino professor at UCLA, but I’ve met several before that acted and spoke just as he does. For the record, I’ve also met several (other ethnicity) professors over the years who spouted the same views (with less anger though), and were just as unable to defend their statements, claims, pronunciations, etc., as this fool.
Every one of them were not competent in their “professed” fields of expertise. I suspect that each and every one of them was a product of Affirmative Action; to summarize: they could, and almost always did, respond to any homework or test question with a fountain of revolutionary bullshit (that, no matter how obviously wrong, nonsensical or irrelevant, could not be questioned) and they never received less than a ‘B’ in any Liberal Arts course they took.
Naturally, admission to Grad School was almost a given. Being hired by a University was slightly more difficult, as the number of jobs is not large. On the other hand, there are effectively “set-asides”. Get hired, lay low until tenure, then spout of all kinds of incompetent rantings and obviously incorrect revisionist crap that would get any other professor fired.
I think that most of the commenters here are missing a couple of very important items.
1. “Listen” to the sound on the video. His audience is, what, 20 “revolutionaries”?
2. We don’t know, because the video is dark … (why?)
3. Listen to his words. He is able to speak only to a “very favorable” audience, as everyone else notices that he is unable to formulate a coherent argument for his points. His speech is simply a number of quasi-related sound-bites that is unable to stand analysis. Any other audience would laugh him down, and he’d end up screaming “Academic Freedom” and “Tenure”.
I suspect that a significant amount of his rage is at his own inability and the continuously-repeating and never-ending failures of “his way” (and not just at the personal level). He really can’t defend or even handle his own “field of expertise”; he knows it, everyone else knows it, he knows that they know, and he knows that he brought all of this upon himself. He has to play the enraged, angry militant buffoon every day of his professional life, and he knows that everyone else laughs at him.
He’s looking for an “out”, a reason to repudiate, or at least change, his beliefs, but no one has yet obliged: Castro is still alive, the Venezuelans have not yet put Hugo in permanent time-out, and Brazil is run by a Leftist (and everyone knows where this is heading).
The oppressive chains he wears are of his own making.

Are you sure the prof in the video is David M. Hernandez? Hernandez looks older and doesn’t have the ponytail (lol … what is it with ponytails?)
And by the by, notice that the Dept of Chicana and Chicano Studies is all chicano/a professors. You’d think that makes sense, but isn’t that a form of discrimination? Would they racially select like that in any European-based ethnic studies department?

I’m betting on tenure as a ‘history’ professor. After all the majority of tenured historians are dyed in the wool Marxists and use their tenured positions to rewrite history. Marxism always loses but these historical revisionists just write out the bad bits and lie through their teeth in their efforts to infect another wide eyed generation with communist lies and hollow promises.
Failing history then he must be a sociology professor. They get their degrees of the backs of cornflake packets after all.
