Climate Bill to take advantage of Gulf Oil Spill

by Rodan ( 38 Comments › )
Filed under Climate, Liberal Fascism, Progressives, Tranzis at May 12th, 2010 - 8:00 am

The tragic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is being taken advantage of by the Progressives. Barack Hussein Obama’s administration is already freezing more offshore oil exploration/drilling. Now Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and John Kerry (D-MA) are using this accident as a pretext for their climate bill. Progressive Republican Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has bailed but this is not stopping them from proceeding with this travesty.

Kerry and Lieberman’s efforts took a major hit when their Republican co-architect, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, walked away from the bill shortly before its scheduled rollout last month.

Since then, partisan polarization has intensified and the politics of energy were muddled further by the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Though Kerry and Lieberman added new curbs on drilling — including allowing states to block their neighbors’ plans to drill offshore — the legislation does not ban new drilling altogether.

Still, Kerry and Lieberman say they’ve lined up wide support from utilities, oil companies and other business leaders they’ve courted for months. They hope that backing will lead to support from moderate Democrats and crossover Republicans.

This is about what you could expect from an insipid cretin like Kerry.
We are at war & like all wars it requires energy. The very people
that control the energy generally support our enemy & can manipulate the oil supply at will.
We need to drill. This is butt hurt, bite me , bad crazy.

Unfuckingbelievable: Goldman Has Zero Trading Loss Days In Last Quarter

And Calgary was getting blizzards last week as well. Last time I remember seeing snow in May was back in the mid 70′s. Of course at the time I was on a house boat trip on the Trent-Severn Waterway here in Ontario. Not fun at all.

That would be miserable. I need the definitive explanation for all of this from Ludwig. I am sure that there is a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why this is still my fault.

lol,Rodan you got the states reversed,Lieberman CT,Kerry MA.Other than that not much diff between the 2.:-) I really despise Lieberman, our jr senator. He speaks out of both sides of his mouth and nearly always lands in the leftist camp.Electricity and fuel prices in CT are amongst the highest in the nation but apparently not high enough for Joe.

We were in MA yesterday and the gas was 22 cents a gallon less than here in CT. MA for crying out loud!!!!

It is sad but true. They quickly lose touch with their constituents and become creatures of their new environments. They stop standing up for things they once believed in and choose to take the easy path every time. This is why we need term limits– to take away the incentive to buy votes with pork. We should not have legislators serving for 20 and 30 years, but it is nearly impossible to get rid of them. Term limits are the answer.

That’s always a fear with people. And it is disgusting to watch it happen. When McCain was being courted by the nyt, it was obvious he enjoyed being the chosen one. So much that he didn’t have a clue what was going on. And I can just see his wife at cocktail parties chattering nervously abt being a prog. republican.

I’ll quote a poster over at Big Hollywood about this. He’s said it better than I could.

Sure. End all oil drilling. End using oil for anything now! We dont need it! If you need blood, dont expect the sterilized tubes and plastic bags. Hope someone steps up as a vampire and offers to transfer blood for you. Need to cook a meal for your family…(or for all those elitists out there, want your favorite gourmand to prepare the finest meal for you? Youd better be willing to let him use wood from the forest and only those pots and pans made out of ceramic, because it takes petroleum products to give you those super special culinary devices to cook your meal) or give them a bath with those lovely bath products? Fuhgeddaboudit! You go put in your application for your weekly ration of coal or wood and boil down that little herb called soapwort if you want to have a bath. In fact, give up bathing for a year! And dont even think about asking for those over the counter pharmaceuticals that will help you keep those boils, scratches, burns, and itches at bay. Yes, Petroleum products help make those too! OIL MAKES MEDICINE! Just STFU and chew on that nice willow branch and hope the local apothecary has a good dose of laudanum.

You want inexpensive clothing? Youd better learn not only how to grow cotton and flax but also pick it, card/process it, weave it and sew it because those nice polyester non-crease pants dont just grow on trees. You want camping gear? Youd better learn to tend to a horse and cart cause youre gonna need big beasts of burden to carry around the absolutely NON-Weatherproofed canvas and the poles you hoist it up on. Those things dont just fold up and tuck into a nice little duffel bag.

Petroleum helps save lives. It helped save the life of my baby preemie girl when she was born. Kept her safe and warm in an incubator while she received food intravenously through tiny plastic tubes and medicines that would help her breathe and grow. But wait a minute…Lefties think if a woman has the temerity and stupidity to bring a preemie into life, both she and the baby ought to be punished for being a drain on society! *smackface* What was I THINKING?!

    Related to the topic:

Climate guru: US bill or not, the green economy is on track

Leaders did not deliver an international agreement in Copenhagen and the US is dragging its feet on a climate bill, but all is not lost as positive action on reducing carbon emissions is developing quickly and we are rapidly approaching the climate-energy tipping point, American climate guru Lester Brown told EurActiv in an exclusive interview.

“If we can get a good climate bill [in the US], then great. If we don’t get one, it is not the end of the world, because we will still be closing coal-fired power plants and we are still going to be building wind farms,”Brown said, speaking ahead of the Brussels launch of his new book, Plan B 4.0.

According to Brown, who founded Washington-based think-tank the Worldwatch Institute and heads now the Earth Policy Institute, international negotiations to deliver a global deal to succeed the Kyoto Protocol are “obsolete”, as the key driver for lowering emissions will instead be genuine competition in developing new energy technology.

The climate guru did not shy away from spelling out an endless list of examples. In Europe, he described Desertec, which aims to power Europe with solar energy from the African desert, as a visionary project that can fast-track the EU’s transition to clean energy.

Likewise, the United States and China are also aggressively embarking on a more sustainable energy path, rapidly developing their capacities in wind and solar energy.

If they move in the right direction then the world is going to follow, he told EurActiv.

“I sense that we are moving to the tipping point. If you just look at things that have happened in the last couple of years – the anti-coal movement, the European Desertec, the Chinese wind programme – they have happened in a very short-time and each is a major development in its own right. None of the three had really anything to do with climate legislation,” stressed the American climate expert.

Brown noted that if the Chinese have not supported an international climate deal, it is because a “meaningful agreement would drive countries everywhere to invest in new technologies and new energy sources”.

Resource depletion, pollution and the drive for energy security will push countries to leave fossil fuels behind, Brown said, explaining that it is only a matter of time before governments realise what businesses and grassroots movements have already grasped: that it is time to move towards the new green energy economy.

I heard Rush play clips of pelosi who was speaking to religious leaders, trying to enlist them in the cause of getting cap-n-tax passed by pushing it to their congregation as a moral imperative to save the earth.

    Also somehow related:

EU urged to consider social impact of climate policies

EU climate policies must be adjusted to ensure that they do not hit the poorest households hardest, according to a group of climate change and social justice experts.

The experts handed their recommendations to Brussels policymakers on Tuesday (4 May).

They warned that climate policies such as taxes or the EU’s emissions trading scheme (EU ETS) can lead to price hikes, which could have a disproportionate impact on low-income households. The negative social impact of such policies needs to be avoided or compensated for, for example by ensuring that energy remains affordable for all, they added.

    Snip

Other key recommendations included increasing energy-efficiency subsidies for low-income households, increasing point-of-sale subsidies to make low-carbon products more accessible, and supporting community-owned renewable micro-generation schemes so that poorer people can afford solar panels, for example.

“We need to strengthen the human face of climate change,” said László Andor, the EU’s commissioner for employment, social affairs and inclusion, after receiving the recommendations. “I think climate policies must be seen as long-term modern social policies,” he added.

They aren’t afraid of mixing Church and State when it comes to telling people what do do. Which was one of the things the Establishment clause was supposed to prevent. Global Warming is rapidly becomming the State Religion, and they want to require the ministers of all faiths to preach it from the pulpit.

I have been doing some research as to what actually happened on the DeepHorizon rig, it is really fasinating.
From the cooks first hand account in the Louisana picune(?)
The first sign was a slight rumble, then a few seconds a loud crash and a bang shortly after that a loud thud and the whole rig tilted.

She then followed a crewman to the lifeboat crossing the drill deck which was covered with mud and concrete.

what happened, from the facts we now know (actually fron about day 1), was a gas pocket rose up the well, the Deadman switch activated and asent a signal to the BOP (blow out preventer) which activated and sheared the well head as designed. BUT for some unknown reason the BOP failed to cut completely through the well head and is leaking. This is why it was a failure to close the BOP the next day, it had already been activated and was stuck semi open causing oil to leak past it.

Now if you notice all the amounts reported leaked are in GALLONS not barrels or Metric tons. This is significant because the numbers sound more egrigious. 45000 gal a day sounds a lot better than 1000 barrels a day or 356.68 Metric tons a day, at least for the progressives who tell the media what to print.

    Is it a spill, yes.
    Is it moving , yes.
Is it a disaster…….well that is to be determined.

This is the Global Warming nut and ELF fantasy accident, and they will use it to cause all the damage they can to the industry.

In 1979 the Ixtoc 1 well in the southern gulf discharged 475,000 Metric tons PER day for a year before it was stopped.
