Believe In Yourself

Persistence is the key to attaining your goals. That, and make sure you have a friend to record your pursuit of excellence and post it on the Utoobage so that everyone may be inspired to follow in your footsteps. Or not.

While the stalkers are looking around for a sheet of plywood to try it for themselves, let’s have an Overnight Open Thread.

Well, it is difficult to break laminated plywood like that with your head. Even though it only looked like 3/8″ plywood, all it did was bend around his head. What was he thinking? He would have been better off slamming his head down on a 1/2″ thick piece of pine board held up with cinder blocks.

Live video of the oil gusher to be made available as early as tonight here:
    [Link: http://www.globalwarming.house.gov...

BP finally relented to congress, when told, “It may be BP’s camera, but it’s America’s ocean.” Finally.

Oh, and the latest calculation from the engineering scientist at Purdue is 70,000 barrels a day from one leak, and 25,000 barrels a day from the second…that’s 95,000 barrels a day for those who believe in ‘drill baby drill.’

In other words, and Exxon Valdez every three days, which means this oil spill is already 10 times larger than the Valdez.

    1. http://www.globalwarming.house.gov is not an objective source for anything. Use some f##ing sense.
    2. America’s ocean? I didn’t realize America owned any oceans.
    3. “Engineering scientists”? The flow calculations are WAGs, even at Purdue (I once had a boss from Purdue, and he was way less than impressive; if he’s any indication, might as well have the University of Trashcanistan do it).

Teacher uses example of Obama assassination in class

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A Jefferson County geometry teacher was investigated by the Secret Service after he used a hypothetical assassination of President Barack Obama as a way to teach geometric angles.

School officials said the Corner High School teacher apparently was instructing his students about parallel lines and angles and used the example of where to stand and aim to shoot the president.

Authorities were alerted, and Roy Sexton, special agent in charge of Birmingham’s Secret Service office, said his agency spoke with the teacher.

“We did not find a credible threat,” Sexton said.

He said the investigation was closed. No charges were filed.

Wasn’t this a requirement in most schools when Bush was in office?

Too Much PC? Newspaper Erases 3 Democrats From Photo

The newspaper opted to remove the three Democratic sponsors of Erin’s Law, which toughens penalties for deadly hit-and-run car accidents and is named in honor of Erin Keener, a West Virginia University student who was killed in a hit-run in 2005.

The photo features Gov. Joe Manchin and two members of Keener’s family, but not Marion County House of Delegates members Mike Caputo, Linda Longstreth, and Tim Manchin.

The newspaper’s explanation is that it doesn’t run photos of candidates running for re-election. Many journalism observers say the paper not only crossed the line of political objectivity, but ran over it repeatedly, even though the picture is labeled as a “photo illustration.”

Rush talked abt. it. The left was thrilled when they heard oil globules were washing up on the Fla. Coast. They were running with this far reaching effect of the spill until . . . . LOL, a geologist checked the globs and they were not the same composition as the oil from the spill.

That trades for 12 dings over at the zoo these days.

Sorry, I can’t stomach Rachel Maddow. Rand Paul, when asked about how he would have voted in 1964, should have answered that he couldn’t vote yea or nay because he hadn’t been born yet, and neither had Maddow.

Just got back from a TV debate about Afghan support or not! . 3 on 3! Our side had. A Prof of Political Science and a serving Naval officer … and yours truly. They had a sexy looking Serbian lady who was into ‘MindBalance’ dream symposiums. (chatted her up beforehand and she almost supported our side in the debate). Then there was the Young Green (dewey eyed and harmless) Finally the opposition has a hard core 40 year veteran communist radical, with international experience. ‘Somehow’ I came across a 14 page dossier on this guy’s activities.

Our Navy guy was pretty useless but the Professor and I tore the ‘comrade’ a new one in front of the cameras. The audience was 5 selected trolls infiltrated to ask ‘patsy’ questions, NO one supporting our side and the balance of the audience neutral. I saved the best to last when I quoted the ‘comrade’s own words back at him as I waved his document supporting the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan at the same time dissing Western efforts in that country.

Manipulated the debate wind up to ensure that I had the last say. TORE THE COMRADE A NEW ONE!

Shook his hand afterwards but he refused to make eye contact.

    Priceless! :)

Move to the border the 101; the 82nd, the Mountain Division and the 1st Div. Then suggest to the Mexican el Presidente that the UN should fund a fence on the Mexican side to keep the gringo warmongers out.

The facebook site for drawing Mo has been greatly altered. Yesterday it was alternatively the funniest and the most frightening site on the internet. I saw a comment on the ‘Draw Mo’ site that said something along the lines of ‘wouldn’t you be upset if there was a day where everyone was asked to draw insulting pictures of Jesus?’

Well, yeah, I’d be a bit upset. But I sure wouldn’t go on a seething rampage and wouldn’t call for the death of people who participated. Unlike Mo and his buddy Al, MY God is big enough to handle insults himself.

  225. 229 | May 20, 2010 7:48 am

    @ RIX:

Nobody but the British have ever wanted to conquer and occupy the North. We Southerners would rather stay home. That is one reason I don’t expect the Cold Civil War to flsare up into a hot civil war. If they decide they want to leave the Union to form their “Perfekt Socialist Kollektiv”, well, more power to them. Like the song says, don’t go away mad, just go away. Unfortuantely, they want us around to pilliage through taxation. That could make things get dicy…

There is a lesson there for Americans if they will pay attention. We discussed Machiavelli’s The Prince a bit the other day, and the concept that it is better to be feared than to be loved. Nowhere is this more true than on the battlefield, yet Obama has made it the task of our troops to win the love of the Afghan people, evenat the expense of their own lives. And to do so on a deadline, no less. This is a formula for failure. I do believe that it it intended to be.
