The joys of socialized medicine

Filed under Health Care, North Korea at July 16th, 2010 - 8:30 am

North Korea has got to be hell on Earth.  Amputations are performed without anesthetic, people suffer from malnutrition, spies are every where and the nation is armed to the teeth! The Dear Leader Kim Jong-Il is worshiped as a God and brutality is the order of the day. In a perfect world all the lefties – Oliver Stone, Michael Moore, the Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers would move there. Like Gaza, we should just let that nation fall apart and not get distracted by “humanitarian” issues. The most humanitarian thing we could do for rogue regimes is to let them fall apart.

by Lauren Frayer

North Korea’s health system is in dire shambles, with amputations being performed without anesthesia, often under candlelight in impoverished hospitals where doctors are paid in cigarettes.

That’s according to a report released today by Amnesty International, outlining disastrous medical conditions in the reclusive communist state and calling on donor countries to send humanitarian aid and stop using North Korea’s residents in a game of “political football” with Pyongyang. The report also notes that North Korea has refused to cooperate fully with the international community in order to receive any aid.

North Korea claims that all medical treatment is free for its citizens, but defectors and health workers interviewed by Amnesty International said people have had to pay for treatment since the 1990s. However, because the country is so poor, many doctors are paid in cigarettes, alcohol or food. Only major surgery requires cash, which many North Koreans don’t have.

“If you don’t have money, you die,” the report quotes a 20-year-old refugee as saying.

Amnesty’s results were based on interviews with defectors and doctors who’ve worked in North Korea, but the group’s researchers weren’t given access to enter the closed communist country themselves. Many of the subjects’ names were omitted to shield their identities, or they gave only a single family name. There’s been no immediate reaction to the report from North Korea’s official media.

The report also describes hospitals that are barely functioning without medicines or even electricity. Epidemics like tuberculosis and anemia have been exacerbated by widespread malnutrition.

“North Korea has failed to provide for the most basic health and survival needs of its people. This is especially true of those who are too poor to pay for medical care,” Catherine Baber, Amnesty International’s deputy director for the Asia-Pacific, said in a statement on the group’s website.

“The North Korean people are in critical need of medical and food aid,” Baber said. “It is crucial that aid to North Korea is not used as a political football by donor countries.”

North Korean hospitals often have to strap patients to operating tables while amputations and other surgeries are performed without anesthesia, the report said. It quotes a 56-year-old woman from the northeastern city of Musan who underwent surgery in 2001 to remove her appendix — without anesthesia.

“I was screaming so much from the pain, I thought I was going to die. They had tied my hands and legs to prevent me from moving,” she said.

Another 24-year-old defector from North Korea’s northeastern Hamkyong province said he had his left leg amputated from the calf down, after he fell from a train and damaged his ankle.

“Five medical assistants held my arms and legs down to keep me from moving. I was in so much pain that I screamed and eventually fainted from pain,” the man was quoted as saying. “I woke up one week later in a hospital bed.”

The World Health Organization estimates that North Korea spends less on health care per capita than any other country in the world. The latest WHO figures show Pyongyang spends less than $1 on health care each year per person.

Less than $1 per person each year for he11 care. What is that buck for? A processing fee for your subscription card?

This is the ultimate end of Leftism. No matter how they smile and smile, their face is that of a grinning skull, their promise is only degredation and death. How many times does this have to play out before the Left will admit that, no, it won’t work this time. The problem isn’t that the right people haven’t attempted socialism yet. The problem is in socialism itself. Socialism is as diseased as Islam or Nazism. It is amazing to me that so many people don’t recognize that. It is still an acceptible thing to be a socialist. It shouldn’t be.

Going for an MRI on my shoulder today, nuclear stress test next week, knee surgery in August, shoulder sometime after, colonscopy in September.

Get yours before the Zero burns the whole shithouse down.

Of course this may overburden the insurance companies and cause them to go bankrupt sooner, but after paying insurance for thirty years and rarely using it…time to cash in on my health care investment.

My own little Cloward-Piven to bring on the inevitable sooner….if its going to be bloody let it be in what time I have left, and not in my children’s time.

    @ Iron Fist:
I think we are always going to have evil operatives who want to be the cult leader. That’s what socialism/communism is. Using people. Dominating and controlling them. The bums at the top make promises they do not intend to keep. They are only concerned with power and money. And they are ruthless in going after it.
It’s encouraging that so many Americans are rebelling against the progs. We have never had a King in this country (except for this hack in office) and people are not impressed with what is going on.

    @ huckfunn:

I am hoping against hope that the challenges to this insane bill are upheld through the courts. I had a coworker actually tell me she was a socialist and that she’s hoping for the public option to eventually be the standard here in this country, like Canada.

I asked her to Google Bangor, Maine – 12 hospitals for 64,000 people (San Francisco, with a population of over 750,000, has 7). Guess who’s filling those beds, dumpkoff? Canadians who aren’t willing to suffer pain and perhaps death waiting for their fabulous public option to pay for their treatment.

I asked her how many students she thinks will be going into medicine if they’re going to be paid government doctors and told where to practice. Funny, she had no answer to that.

Malia heading to overnight camp; Obama family Maine weekend
    By Lynn Sweeton July 16, 2010 9:23 AM | Permalink | Comments (0)
WASHINGTON–The Obama family departed Friday morning for Bar Harbor, Maine, where they are spending the weekend near Acadia National Park.

On Thursday, President Obama told NBC’s Chuck Todd oldest daughter Malia, 12, will be going to overnight camp for the first time. During the summer, “a month of it’s going to be taken up with Malia going away for camp, which she’s never done before. And I may shed a tear,” Obama said, adding “when she’s on the way up.”

Ain’t that sweet. Obama is going on only his third vacation since the Gulf Oil Disaster began (poor guy), and he isn’t going to the Gulf beaches. He is going to Maine, to get as far away from the spill as possible. Real Leadership, Obama style.

So all the fat people stage a protest march somewhere but then gravity takes over and they all spontaneously collapse into one Super Black Hole guy who has the power of time dilation, but then someone spills some lobster blood on him and he turns into Super Black Hole Lobster guy, except the lobster was from the Gulf so now he’s Super Black Hole BP Lobster guy who is a villain…

Yeah I knew it, I could write for AxeCop…

    @ Speranza:

Look, he says: No matter what Republican gets the nomination, the establishment media is going to portray the nominee as a hard-line, near-radical, conservative. “If they can make John McCain into a conservative [as he said they did in 2008], they can turn anyone into a conservative. If we are going to be portrayed as conservatives anyway, we might as well have a candidate who really believes it and who can passionately and courageously articulate those beliefs.”

“Fat Farms”. Ever see the 60′s (early 70′s ?) flick “Wild In The Streets” ? LSD camps for anyone over 30 (IIRC). I think Shelly Winters and Richard Prior were in it. Shelly had hit rock bottom by this point.
Anyhow, no joke, there are shrinks taking a 2nd look at LSD for psychiatric use.Combine all their concepts and you have fat people tripping in re education/weight reduction camps ! Talk about yer bummer…

It looks like the little plastic dingus you used to have to put in the whole on a 45 rpm record to fit a normal sized record player spindle…and boy am I dating myself with that reference.

For all of you old fools like me who are AARP members. I know it has turned into a liberal nest of BS. However check out the latest July-August issue of the AARP bulletin on page 12 under the heading of Your Health. These morons are proposing that a small town in Mississippi copy an Iranian model for health care. “a small group of professionals from the US and Iran are quietly working together to practice a new type of medicine in Mississippi”.
I guess they can’t wait for Obama care to slove their problems.

Not just actual fat people, but people who like to eat fat. I weigh 106 lbs, and eat fatty meat, potatoes fried in lard, put real cream in my coffee and so forth. If some stupid diseased commie dares to try and force me to eat some “approved” modified fake bullshit nonfat “food”, said commie will get a 7.62 lead pill right between its beady little eyes.

That’s what I suspect, too. They can present themselves as really tough guys, but they never have to think for themselves. In fact, they are taught to be afraid to think for themselves. So if you come up with something that they don’t have a valid answer for, they just go postal.

And if the government and/or any liberal organization is looking for somebody to be a moby in what is supposed to be a right-wing organization, who better to choose than somebody affiliated with the military? Nobody will suspect them at all.

Don’t feel bad; I remember those plastic adapters. The alternative was to get a wider spindle for the 45 rpm singles.
