DOS Games Archive offers the vintage 1984 IBM PC game, Alley Cat:

You’re a cat and you have to do the usual “cat things” to survive and get the female feline. Eat fish out of the fish bowl, catch mice, and steal milk from sleeping dogs are some of the things you have to do to survive in this surreal masterpiece from Bill Williams.

Well, Foxnews did give him his own show, granted it is only one day a week and a Saturday night at that, but…. Him and “The Donald” foolishly suggesting that the Kahn’s would ever consider building their Victory Mosque anywhere besides GZ just proves what imbeciles they are, not to mention making FoxNews look really stupid because they allowed them to blabber on on air about.

that was a discussion over three moths ago between the two of them that has been taken way out of context and brought back up as ammo against possum. posum and eliana are ok with each other and can discuss sensitive issues.

I like possum but last night he was writing things that seemed a bit odd. And to top it off, he refused to answer my replies and I think the reason for it was that they were irrefutable.

I don’t mind a good argument as long as civility is in the mix. And for possum civility was there, at least with me last night. But I have seen some here antagonize others, and what could one expect except that emotions run high and things are said that would not be, had both sides kept the nastiness out.

We haven’t trusted our sailors with drink aboard ship since I think 1869 or thereabouts. The Brits used to serve rum and grog aboard their ships until 1972. Sad to see the RN give up that tradition.

Will Obama be a one term President? I think the answer is obvious to any serious student of politics. Successful political leaders have an instinctive feel for when to step on the gas, and for when to step on the brakes. In the modern era Reagan and Clinton and to a lesser extent G.W. Bush had it down cold. Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and H.W. Bush were clueless in this regard. Barak Obama has no clue at all. He steps on the gas when he should be tapping the brake. I just watched today’s weekly White House web posting which is all about: Weekly Address: No Corporate Takeover of Our Democracy. Obama is clueless. a true moron, who bashes corporations at a time of massive unemployment.

Aboard a US Navy ships, wine messes were apart of daily ship’s life. Josephus Daniels, a moralizer with prohibitionist issues, tried to convince the Secretary of the Navy in 1913 that officers should not engage in drinking nor have the privileges that were not granted to the Sailors and Marines that they commanded. Since the age of sailing vessels, the rum ration was switched to whiskey in 1806 but was halted altogether in the year 1862.

I don’t think so. He hasn’t been around for 50+ threads, but I think he was having some sort of serious surgery (leg amputation!!??!). He’s got the third worst karma average at BVoAF, so he’s always on the bubble, always catching a lot of flak, but not banned yet AFAIK.

So, in other words, no you weren’t, you weren’t involved in the conversation at all, you are offended by something that was said to someone else. Moreover the fact that the two individuals who were involved in the conversation have resolved the incident is clearly of no interest to you.

OK fair enough, it’s is your right to be as offended as you wish by any thing you wish to be offended by. It is equally your right to refuse to be gracious or forgiving, still not a problem.

Let’s just be honest and not pretend you are actually in any way involved other than that your personal sensitivities are offended, which as I have clearly said is your right.

He was a rude moron last night. Insulted so many people. His antics were odd and childish. I didn’t know abt. the insult to Eliana until today because I am seldom on the ont, but that is beyond crass.

There are people here for whom no apology by possum will ever suffice. Does he owe people here an apology, yes he does. Will those certain people ever accept an apology from him, no they will not.

Some of our friends here are of a echo chamber mindset, any opinion that does not agree with theirs is strictly verboten and any who hold or express such opinions must be vilified and banned.

Fortunately the majority of the fine people here completely reject that mentality and recognize it for what it is.

    @ doriangrey:

If nothing else it was, for me, an impetus to consider the somewhat-foreign-to-me idea of “the rights of nations” v. something like realpolitik. Jefferson here seems to come down on Possum’s side of things more often than not, though there’s always the exception:

“It is not the possibility of danger which absolves a party from his contract, for that possibility always exists, and in every case… If possibilities would void contracts, there never could be a valid contract, for possibilities hang over everything. Obligation is not suspended till the danger is become real and the moment of it so imminent that we can no longer avoid decision without forever losing the opportunity to do it.” –Thomas Jefferson: Opinion on French Treaties, 1793.

Definitely more heat than light last night, but nevertheless an interesting topic.

IIRC the Brits gave the sailors rum and grog to keep them drunk and less unhappy with the horrendous conditions, physical abuse and the fact that many were forced into service.

Alcohol also counteracts any germs that were lurking in the sailors’ “scuttlebutt” (drinking water barrel). It wasn’t easy to keep drinking water safe back in those days. You don’t want your entire ship coming down with digestive disease.
