Ahmadinejad unveils new ‘ambassador of death’ unmanned drone bomber

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday inaugurated the country’s first domestically built unmanned bomber aircraft, calling it an “ambassador of death” to Iran’s enemies.

The 4-meter-long drone aircraft can carry up to four cruise missiles and will have a range of 620 miles (1,000 kilometers), according to a state TV report — not far enough to reach archenemy Israel.

“The jet, as well as being an ambassador of death for the enemies of humanity, has a main message of peace and friendship,” said Ahmadinejad at the inauguration ceremony, which fell on the country’s national day for its defense industries.

Hello, world!

What?

D’oh! You misunderstand my intentions!

I am peaceful! See my fingers?!

I’ve had it up to here with explaining, but we’ll go through it again!

They are such tiny little lies.

Told by a tiny little me!

Hey you!

You don’t believe me, do you?

I will crush you with my bare fingers!

Is he scared yet?

Eh, well. Can’t terrify them all!

Rock on!

I’m not worried! Some will fall for anything!

I am the king of the world!

Smiles everyone, smiles!

    Contradiction in the story:

The 4-meter-long drone aircraft can carry up to four cruise missiles and will have a range of 620 miles (1,000 kilometers), according to a state TV report

    v.s.

State TV later showed video footage of the plane taking off from a launching pad and reported that the craft traveled at speeds of 560 miles per hour (900 kilometers) and could alternatively be armed with two 250-pound bombs or a 450-pound guided bomb.

    Somebody’s fudging.

Referring to Israel’s occasional threats against Iran’s nuclear facilities, Ahmadinejad called any attack unlikely, but he said if Israel did, the reaction would be overwhelming.

I’m calling complete bullshit on this. Potemkin bombers. Probably made out of modelling clay.

    @ snork:

I bet is is just a big model airplane. Iran (and Mohammedans in general) puffs up like a cockrel, but usually has little to show for it. They only beat Iraq because they won the “best barbarianb” contest. We could crush them easily. People whine that then we’d have to rebuild them, but why? Make sure they are no longer a threat, and leave it at that.

I have been watching and re-watching The Ambassador all morning. I don’t get it. It is claimed it can carry 4 cruise missiles. But given the size of the drone, they would be very small. The drone itself is a scaled down fighter with modest fuel capacity. And that takeoff shows it sucking fuel like crazy. It is obviously a naval weapon, but could easily be neutralized by a fighter screen. The cruise missiles are far too small to impact a ships fighting capability.
Iran was far more dangerous when it relied upon air-launched Exocets.
The Ambassador does not get much bang for the buck.

No doubt, but they Can’t do that anymore, can they? They don’t have a real airforce. We’d shoot anything that dared to take to the skies before it could do any significant damage. A brief search indicates that the best they have to throw up is maybe 20 F-14s (if they can get all of them in the air), and 40 Mig-29s. Flown by Iranian pilots. That won’t last long.

Yes they do. Not very stealthy, but a lot more bang. The point is, if you have a good cruise missile, you not need another to launch the better and heavier one you already have.
This may be simply air envy. BTW, here is a run down on Iran’s missiles:

Thsat is the biggest threat that they have. We should be able to pick them up on sattilite, though, and use a couple of B-2s to take them out. Our air supremacy is really scary if you are on the other side of it. If we’ll use it. There’s always that.

Daisy Khan, wife of the imam behind the proposed Islamic community center near Ground Zero in New York City, said the project “must go forward.” She said her group, Cordoba Initiative, will meet with stakeholders before deciding whether to meet with New York Gov. Khan defended her husband’s comments that the U.S. was an accessory to the crime of 9/11, saying he was talking about “CIA support specifically to Osama bin Laden and the Taliban” in Afghanistan’s war with the Soviet Union in the 1980s.

Yes, I’m with you on this. First, bin Laden had shitloads of his own money. We certainly spent billions against the Soviets in Afghanistan and I’m fairly certain no one was real picky about who was fighting the Soviets as long as they were fighting.

They are following Hitler’s Big Lie dictum with this one. No matter how big a lie, if you repeat it often enough and loud enough, enough people will start to believe it.

Bin Laden got his support in A-stan from wealthy Saudis and the Paki ISI. American reporters who were visiting the Muj camps were told to stay away from Bin Ladin’s people as he had sworn to kill Americans as well as Soviets.

Tempting thought, isn’t it. Especially when you think that perhaps if the Soviet Union has survived Molsevic and his ilk would never had started causing trouble -- and they might have tried to keep Iran in line. Ah, the unintended consequences of victory.

But unlike P.J. O’Rourke, I don’t the the Berlin Wall came down because of Bulgarian blue jeans. I think it was Afghanistan, and I think it was a good thing. In the immortal words of Charlie Wilson, “we fucked up the end game”.
