    I can repeat this then:
I don’t know why they are making a big deal about a 50 member church burning the koran. It’s only a book. They burn the flag all the time and I’ve seen demonstrations where they yell “Jews to the ovens” and “Long live Hitler”. 9/11 was a lot worse, too.

I was nearly 7 when Apollo 11 went to the moon. My little sister had a ruptured appendix that caused gangrene to spread in her tiny body and spent over 8 weeks in the hospital that summer. I spent so many days in the hospital waiting room and chapel running around and playing with toys. One of my favorite toys happened to be a snap-together model of the lunar module and the command module.

What a time. Watching the documentaries on the moon landing always brings a tear to my eye.

I wonder how the “Shot-Spotter” works.

It’s a network of microphones that triangulate the sound of the shots.

We use similar technology near some of the FOBs in Iraq.

    It works.

what a great story. thanks for that

The backstory is that my little sister’s appendicitis could have been completely diagnosed properly if our pediatrician was competent. His name was, no joke, Dr. Slaughter. He told my mother that my sister’s stomach and abdomen pain was a virus, stomach ache, etc. After two or three days of my sister laying in bed curled up and sobbing in pain my mother took her to a different doctor. This doctor was shocked at my sister’s condition and immediately ordered her to a hospital where she underwent emergency surgery to remove her appendix. Unfortunately for my sister her appendix had burst and gangrene was all over her 5-year-old body. She had to undergo several more surgeries to remove the poisonous gangrene and they did not sew up the incisions because they might have to go back in to her body to make sure things were clean. They left the wounds open and administered hydrogen peroxide or some such cleanser to the open wounds. To this day she sports very ugly wounds on her stomach and lower back as a result.

My mother confronted Dr. Slaughter and his superiors and was basically told if you decide to pursue some sort of malpractice suit you will never receive medical care for you you kids in this town. So my parent dropped any legal pursuits at the time.

Fortunately my sister survived but at the time she was the #1 priority on the critical care list for many weeks.

Sorry to be so long winded but the summer of 1969 really resonates with me on so many levels.

Yeah, I didn’t know that part of the situation until I pressed my mom on why she didn’t sue the fuck out those pricks. She was only 24 or 25 at the time and it was 1969. Times were different and I guess my parents felt cowed by the medical authorities.

Sure it’ll screw up tv and radio reception for miles, and I’ll have to wear a full-body lead suit, but I’d also let my neighbors know when they need to plan their vacation. Suggestions?

I was not here for the Koran burning thread, but I am exercised about this so here goes: We have a general who were are told is a genius, won the war in Iraq, etc. Who now weighs in to admonish an American pastor to not burn the Koran as it might endanger our troops. Is that the standard now in war? We might upset an evil enemy by our actions under the 1st amendment in our own country?

No mention that most of our troops were getting killed in Iraq and now in Afghanistan because Iran is giving them IED’s and training and sanctuary. And our own ROE where our guys are getting killed because they cannot fire on a Mosque, or if a jihadist is hiding behind a civilian. Our troops are getting killed because our political leaders have no guts, and apparently our generals follow suit. Patton is rolling over in his grave. All this Pastor’s action reveal is that we are so far down the road of Political Correctness that we will not recover until thousands or maybe millions of Americans are killed down the road because we will NOT confront the evil that is ISLAM, not jihadists, not a segment, but the entire religion is evil, came from evil and is sustained in evil.

And now when someone stands up to that evil HE is a bigot, a fanatic, he is responsible for putting our troops in increased danger. Fuck why not just ask the Muslims what we can do, how we can act, get ahead of the curve don’t want to do something down the road that would make them, crash into our greatest buildings, scream death to America, determine to wipe out the Jews, blow up Buddha statures, whip women to death, stone them to death…yeah maybe if we appease them some more they will reform.

I think God Himself wants war with this evil and will provoke the earth into that war, if you think God is just about being cuddly you are wrong. He is more enraged than you could ever imagine. And if you say God does not get enraged, they you have a God with no sense of justice.

What do you think He felt as that poor woman in prison in Iran they are wanting to stone got 99 lashes this Thursday, anyone see that in the MSM? Anyone imagine her screaming in agony until she is a sodden sobbing bloody mess more dead than alive, crying for mercy and there is none, crying for deliverance and there is none. Imagine that is your mother, or sister, or wife, cause she is a real person, and she is Satan’s toy as he takes out his hatred of women because one bore the Christ 2,000 years ago. What? Not our problem, she should have been born in America, maybe went to Berkely, her tough luck.

Nah just call this guy a bigot and crazy cause he is going to stand up to this evil, tell him it is stupid and childish, yeah he is the problem. And Monica Crowley can go fuck herself tonight, and any talking head posturing in their indignation and moral condemnation, while they make huge salaries and go to their parties, fucking tools.

Sun, Oct 14, 2007 at 10:45:02 am PDT
“Oh brother. Here comes another round of politically correct investigations of US soldiers, in a futile attempt to appease a Dark Ages mentality—because of allegations that a book was mistreated…”
“And no one even questions why “deeply devout” people would be so prone to rage, threats, violence, and murder. Instead we bow and scrape, and accept their demands to conduct a witch hunt, among the very troops who are risking their lives trying to save Afghanistan from reverting to a hellhole.
    Aaarrrrggghhhh.“

    This is insane.

Imam Rauf’s New York Times Op-Ed
OPINION | Tue, Sep 7, 2010 at 9:15:38 pm PDT

In a New York Times op-ed, Imam Feisal Rauf speaks about the Cordoba House project: Building on Faith in Lower Manhattan.

President Obama and Mayor Michael Bloomberg both spoke out in support of our project. As I traveled overseas, I saw firsthand how their words and actions made a tremendous impact on the Muslim street and on Muslim leaders. It was striking: a Christian president and a Jewish mayor of New York supporting the rights of Muslims. Their statements sent a powerful message about what America stands for, and will be remembered as a milestone in improving American-Muslim relations.

The wonderful outpouring of support for our right to build this community center from across the social, religious and political spectrum seriously undermines the ability of anti-American radicals to recruit young, impressionable Muslims by falsely claiming that America persecutes Muslims for their faith. These efforts by radicals at distortion endanger our national security and the personal security of Americans worldwide. This is why Americans must not back away from completion of this project. If we do, we cede the discourse and, essentially, our future to radicals on both sides. The paradigm of a clash between the West and the Muslim world will continue, as it has in recent decades at terrible cost. It is a paradigm we must shift.

My experience with frozen shoulder(s) showed me that a REALLY good massage therapist working thoroughly on all three sides of the shoulder in question helped a lot faster than Physio. My opinion, of course. That’s the treatment I would seek again if ever necessary. This was a form of deep tissue massage, not the regular stuff though.

That reminds me of the movie Stripes, which was on TV the other night. The scene where Sgt. And then there is the small matter of turning the other cheek and other Christian precepts which make the Koran burning inauthentic as outraged religious feeling.

Islam knows they are at war with Western Civilization, and have known this since the seventh century. Only periodically does the Western World awake to its danger, and it is always when we face annihilation from these sons of Satan. When you see millions of your countrymen dead from a nuke or biological attack, not yet but probably within ten years, then nobody will go to intellect, it will be a universal cry…Cry Havoc..and Let Slip the Dogs of War. Tamerlane was a Naqshhbandi Sufi. he killed 17 million people. The jihadists in Chechnya are Naqshbandis, those in Kashmir are Deobandis; in fact, many members of the Taliban sprung from the Deobandi movement. Sirhindi, an Indian Sufi, extolled jihad and embraced genocidal antisemitism; likewise, the Sufi “revitalizer” of Islam, al-Ghazali, endorsed offensive warfare against nonbelievers. Many Ottoman ghazis were also dervishes, and Indian Sufis encouraged Muslim Amirs in India to pursue holy war against neighboring unsubjugated Hindu kingdoms.

Damn straight we should have, and the repercussions, how many thousands of precious American lives and trillions of dollars would we have not wasted in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Completely disagree. We are not fighting a country. We are fighting a cancer.

Read the Three Conjectures, because we are almost there. What we should have done we did not do, not what is left is to watch the play play out.

Consider a case where Islamic terrorists obliterate a city, causing five times the deaths at Hiroshima and an American limited response.
    Iteration Non-Islamic Losses Islamic Losses
    1 - 5 x 10^5 -2 x 10^6
    Total - 5 x 10^5 -2 x 10^6

In a war between nations, the conflict might stop at this point. But since there is no one with whom to negotiate a peace and no inclination to stop anyhow, the Islamic terrorists will continue while they have the capability and the cycle of destruction continues.
    Iteration Non-Islamic Losses Islamic Losses
    1 - 5 x 10^5 -2 x 10^6
    2 - 1 x 10^6 -5 x 10^6
    3 - 5 x 10^6 -1.5 x 10^7
    4 - 8 x 10^6 -3.0 x 10^7
    5 - 1.5 x 10^7 -5.0 x 10^7
    Total - 2.95 x 10^7 -10.2 x 10^7

At this point, a United States choked with corpses could still not negotiate an end to hostilities or deter further attacks. There would be no one to call on the Red Telephone, even to surrender to. In fact, there exists no competent Islamic authority, no supreme imam who could stop a jihad on behalf of the whole Muslim world. Even if the terror chiefs could somehow be contacted in this apocalyptic scenario and persuaded to bury the hatchet, the lack of command and control imposed by the cell structure would prevent them from reining in their minions. Due to the fixity of intent, attacks would continue for as long as capability remained. Under these circumstances, any American government would eventually be compelled by public desperation to finish the exchange by entering -1 x 10^9 in the final right hand column: total retaliatory extermination.
    Iteration Non-Islamic Losses Islamic Losses
    1 - 5 x 10^5 -2 x 10^6
    2 - 1 x 10^6 -5 x 10^6
    3 - 5 x 10^6 -1.5 x 10^7
    4 - 8 x 10^6 -3.0 x 10^7
    5 - 1.5 x 10^7 -5.0 x 10^7
    6 0 -8.93 x 10^8
    Total - 2.95 x 10^7 -1 x 10^9

The so-called strengths of Islamic terrorism: fanatical intent; lack of a centralized leadership; absence of a final authority and cellular structure guarantee uncontrollable escalation once the nuclear threshold is crossed. Therefore the ‘rational’ American response to the initiation of terrorist WMD attack would be all out retaliation from the outset.
    Iteration Non-Islamic Losses Islamic Losses
    1 - 5 x 10^5 -1 x 10^9
    Total - 5 x 10^5 -1 x 10^9

James Lileks and the Pew respondents would not lose America; but like the boogeyman in Seven, Islam would take it’s soul. The most startling result of this analysis is that a catastrophic outcome for Islam is guaranteed whether America retaliates or not. Even if the President decided to let all Americans die to expiate their historical guilt, why would Islamic terrorists stop after that? They would move on to Europe and Asia until finally China, Russia, Japan, India or Israel, none of them squeamish, wrote -1 x 10^9 in the final right hand column. They too would be prisoners of the same dynamic, and they too have weapons of mass destruction.

Even if Islam killed every non-Muslim on earth they would almost certainly continue to kill each other with their new-found weaponry. Revenge bombings between rival groups and wars between different Islamic factions are the recurring theme of history. Long before 3,000 New Yorkers died on September 11, Iraq and Iran killed 500,000 Muslims between them. The greatest threat to Muslims is radical Islam; and the greatest threat of all is a radical Islam armed with weapons of mass destruction.

the orthodox church that got damaged at ground zero cant get permits to rebuild…i wonder why?

Because it’s some of the most valuable land in the world. Every body wants it. The best funding gets it. If they’re not allowed to rebuild they eventually have to sell. It works that way here in SoCal too.

There were some good ol’ boys from here in AZ called Team Infidel that shot up a Ko-ran in the desert a few years ago and put some vids of it up on youtube. It was organized by a guy who ran a website called anarchangel. He got death threats from muzzies and was warned by the Fibbies that some derkaderks were talking about him in derkaderkstani on some jihadists website and that they were worried for his safety, he said f***’em I live in Arizona, I own a sh**load of guns, bring it!

Interesting, so the choice is more or less cutting of throats based upon burning a book? There is no option to just write a nasty letter of condemnation or hold a candlelight vigil?

Sounds to me like the real problem is with the throat cutters, not the books burners.

Muslims in Gitmo don’t submit. Surrender is a constantly moving line to them. They are supremacists who see us as lowlifes. We see them as cowards. We cannot out-coward them based on our human moral code. Acting like total jerks is their lifeblood and pride. There is no dictionary in Islam. There is only Islam.

    @ Rancher:

Right after 911 I remember all the American bluster and bravado. Remember that picture someone did of rebuilding the WTC as a huge 200 story building with a couple of smaller buildings on the side, all presented as a giant middle finger facing Mecca…Yeah, um huh. Ten years later still a hole in the ground with Muslims moving in to build a victory Mosque and you are saying they played us?

We played ourselves, we have left a vacuum and these vermin are moving in. So it was all talk, what bad-asses we were going to be. Instead the whole country jumps on some insignificant Pastor because he is going to burn a Koran. Yeah, we are really being played by Muslims. The Muslims are NOTHING, we are the problem our political correctness is the problem, the obsessive-compulsive disorder we are displaying to these reprobate idiots is the problem.

Stop being concerned about THEM and worry that we have lost our guts. It took America 18 months to build the Empire State Building at the height of the great depression, and once again it is the tallest building in NYC. So did we reach our height in 1931? What the hell is the matter with us? Islam is a bug to be stepped on it is NOTHING, with our cowardice we have made it huge, impossible to conquer, “O, dear the fucking Muslims are upset, please don’t burn their fucked up book from Hell,” and this from our top General..we are fucked.

Excellent point! Like I said in the beginning this is a win win for the Islamists. What we gain is taking away a major rallying point from the Islamists. Is it worth a symbolic loss? I think so but I do respect those who don’t. Again, I base my opinion on what the enemy wants us to do and doing the opposite.

“Very well,” replies the Israeli. “I wish for 10 million dollars.” —POOF!!!!
“Your wish is granted. Ten million dollars converted to shekels has been placed in your bank account.”

So bunk blew up, it’s a troubling subject people who actually bother to think about it are going to have emotional responses, he’ll either get over it or he wont, personally I would bet on the “he’ll get over it” It is not easy to confront exactly what the faith of Islam is and not have it disturb you.

You either go into serious denial, or you have to confront true genuine evil. Every Muslim is a citizen in the Matrix and subject to being taken over by agent Smith at any moment, that is a very traumatic concept to genuinely come to grips with.

Bunk, that deserves a thoughtful reply. I haven’t seen anyone here make the claim that all muslims are evil. In fact, I’d venture a guess that most of us here would agree that the majority of them are not. It’s not their fault that they were born into the ummah, and became muslims by default. But islam in and of itself, is in fact an evil, expansionist, and supremacist socio-political system wrapped up in the trappings of a religion. If mohammed were alive today, he’d probably be Charlie Manson’s cell-mate.

Sure there are some branches of islam that appear to be pretty innocuous, like the Ahmadis, and maybe the Ismailis. They tend to be quite peaceable and tolerant. But the former, at least, are not regarded as authentic muslims by shias and sunnis alike, who otherwise hate each other’s guts with a passion.

Most muslims aren’t evil; they just had the misfortune of being born into an evil socio-political system, the poor bastards. Same as not everyone in the old Soviet Union who held a Communist Party card was necessarily an evil person; for many it was simply a necessary step to having some kind of a career. But the ones who really and truly believed in Communism were responsible for some terrible atrocities. So it is with islam.

Perhaps some of us have failed to make clear the distinction we see between the True Believers and the circumstantial muslims, but I know, for myself, that I recognize it. If I rant about “muslims” without any other descriptor, then you can be sure it’s really the True Believers that I have in mind.

And islam isn’t a race or an ethnicity. It’s a belief system, and a terrible trap for the poor bastards that are born under its sway. Ask Ayaan Hirsi Ali about that, why don’t you?

It’s also very important to note that while 7 out of 10 Muslims are generally speaking just regular people who just want to live their lives in peace, they are part of a genuinely evil social/religious/political system which even if they do not actively support through violent jihad, they they tacitly support by not opposing.

I have a different view and opinion to most here because, well I am foreign.

The United States of America has gone a very long way in separating Church and State, even down to banning customs and practices which were the foundation of this country. I think that is a good thing in an ethnically, racially and religiously diverse country such as this.

This however to me is wrong.

    http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local-beat/Council-Meetings-to-Begin-with-Muslim-Prayers-102387499.html

The Council announced Tuesday that it has invited local imams to perform Islamic invocations at the beginning of the Council meetings in September.

Though meetings don’t regularly begin with any form of prayer, an email from the Common Council called it “an act of solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters.”

    That is bullshit.

    ACLU where are you?

You are right, of course. I guess the question could be raised, is it “tacit support” if they don’t speak out against the excesses of the True Believers because they know what the latter are capable of, and fear for their lives if they speak up?

I suspect the main thing that keeps most muslims from bailing is that it would cut them off from their family at the very least, if not from their head.

Well that’s part of it, or at least the desired result of having made a statement.

The smart thing for them at this point is to not burn the books on the 11th. They wanted to make a statement, and with all the media attention, they’ve made it. So there’s really no need to actually burn the books. Instead, they should acknowledge that publicly, and put it back on the finger pointers and ask why so violently bent out of shape over such a thing. Saving troops would just be a bonus.

I suspect the main thing that keeps most muslims from bailing is that it would cut them off from their family at the very least, if not from their head.

It’s a combination of things, but yes fear is way up there as the single most prominent motivational factor. They know that they can do pretty much what ever they want as long as they claim to be Muslim, but the second they renounce Islam, or denounce any specific established Islamic doctrine then they are facing some very serious threats against their lives.

Muslims in a country like America have far less to worry about from their Muslim peers, the threat of physical violence is far smaller than it is in any Islamic country. Like all totalitarian systems, Islam is a betrayal system. It is predicated upon what little social advancement there is being tied to the betrayal of those around you.

Those caught in betrayal systems have no choice, they must always be carefully alert to what those around them are doing so they their own misdeeds do not get noticed while they do see what everyone else is doing so that they may betray them for the favor of those above them.

Achmed didn’t pray 5 times today and he was seen staring for a unacceptable amount of time at a woman he isnt married to. Suddenly Achmeds business isnt doing as well as it used to, fewer and fewer of his faithful customers dare to come into his shop.

Next thing old Achmed knows someone overheard him disparaging the prophet and Achmed is loosing his head and his neighbor Salim has experienced Allah’s favor at his shop.
