Mrs. Jenkins. Everyone knew her by name, yet she knew none of ours. She never spoke, except when we walked down the line pretending to stick our fingers down our throats.
Mrs. Jenkins was The Lunch Lady, and she had a hair net and a mole. She worked the serving line in the Maple Dale Elementary School cafeteria serving up fluorescent orange “sloppy joes” on buns that were more like pancakes; warm egg salad; green orbs with orange cubes (both having the consistency of PlayDoh) labeled as “peas & carrots;” and cheeseburgers consisting of a rectangular piece of asphalt roof shingle with a triangle of Velveeta. Oh, yeah… macaroni and Velveeta was available everyday.
EVERYBODY REMEMBERS MRS. JENKINS.
And now you can purchase a Mrs. Jenkins Lunch Lady Action Figure just as you remember her and make her eat that garbage while we enjoy an Overnight Open Thread.

@ BBEV:
Three lunches a day? How do you do that?
Well, I won’t be around anyway.
I was 8 years out from being on Active Duty. For the most part, settled in, doing the usual middle management soul-less bullshit that brought the money home. We had a sick baby at home, and 2 older monsters whose full time job it was to soil as many diapers as they possibly could.
My wife was fortunate enough to able to stay at home while I worked. My VP was a tough guy wanna be, but he could even hack air force basic. He would cut your throat to save his own. The CEO, flat out crazy. Crazy, lost, with the biggest office.
Other folks on phones start realizing something is not right in the world. Shitbird VP decides to take control of the situation, and calmly states we are being bombed. Real fucking genius. But this is no reason to stop working though. We’re being bombed, and we’ll let you know what to do next.
I called my wife, informing her to get the car filled with gas, and drive as a far out into western maryland as they could. I would catch up with them later that day.
My thoughts were on the Reactors within my general locale.

I guess we were lucky. At my school, I don’t remember the lunches being all that bad. But then again, I mostly made my lunches and brought them to school and would buy a milk (for a nickel). But on special occassions I got to eat in the cafeteria. Spaghetti day and then near Thanksgiving they’d have turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy. It was good.

Gotta go to bed .. have to work tomorrow .. I don’t know if I will get to the thread tomorrow … I have to say now …
I am sorry for many of political beliefs after 9/11 and for some time after … because actually what makes you understand … I didn’t or could not understand everything … politically I could not get a grasp of many things … but for sure I understood that we were under attack … I remember my parents coming to the room I was in and my father telling me what happened … they knew .. they just wanted for some crazy feeling to protect me … wasn’t that weird as I was a woman of way over 40 something … I will try to write something tomorrow as to what actually my family experienced on that day … but it is only now when I try to clear my mind and digest what my parents felt after having been through the trials and all the war they experienced … not only my father having actually fought in the wars and my mother knowing the feeling of getting the telegram from the dod of my brothers wounds in Viet Nam … and then what did they think .. here it goes again and they thought it was over for most of their children … no … we have just begun on this war that we are faced with now … it is different and it will be with all our children for many many years to come …
If we think that this war is something we can see from afar ..well, we are so mistaken … it is coming and it will be near you and me … to the malls and they will decide because they know that little by little … small bombings and little instances will make a far more impact than a huge explosion … sad isn’t it … terror will come in small packages …
I do not fricking care who thinks I am weird or paranoid … it is happening and it will continue to happen unless … oh, wait … what was the common phrase on that other site for so many years .. something along the lines of islam must die … dang cannot remember .. I bet some here could .. as Cato used that phrase all the time …
So if I said I would slit the throat of any jihadi who threatened my family .. well, yes, I would and if you want to get a an idea of what real fighting and war is like … then you must be willing to not only do that but see the blood as it passes through the body and comes to the ground .. because that is what our soldiers see when they have to face this … so … we decide … if the fight comes to us … here .. are you willing to be a soldier .. we ask them to be our soldiers over there … but what if it comes here … what would you do … I have decided … and if this seems extreme than you can delete this post …
But, this day tomorrow is to remember and never forget … just like our parents never will forget Pearl Harbor .. same thing .. no matter what anyone wants to make us think … doesn’t there come a time when we make a stand … I am not a horrible person as maybe some people might think from reading my post but isn’t it time for us all to really take a good look at what is happening …
God Bless America … and God Bless our Troops … and please let us never forget …

I know a guy who went to school with Flo and Eddie, and Eddie dances the Freddie at the end of the clip.
If anyone saw Philip Daniel’s cooking video it was boiled octopus with boiled potatoes served with a sprinkle of pepper and some olive oil.
I made the same sort of thing for my supper. How bad could a Brit screw up something as simple as that you may ask….
How is calo doing?
I didn’t get a chance to talk to her tonight much.

Then gimme the goddamn pewter ring back.

She is OK…
but hungry.
@ Possum:
How bad?
Aren’t you supposed to fry octopus?
@ Bunk X:
No I changed my mind.
I couldn’t live without you for those five minutes LOL
@ Possum:
So how bad did you mess up dinner?
Well… If you substitute a chicken breast cut to look like an octopus, seasoned and grilled on foil so it retains its octopussy shape, a few shrimp for fishyness you have the makings of a meal.
Next you take those boiled potato slices and you coat them in peanut oil, salt and Italian herbs and saute them in a very hot skillet, remember the potato is cooked you are just adding colour and crispyness to the outside.
Add some sauted green peppers (seaweed) and an insalata pomodoro (Tomato salad, basically tomato with olive oil on it) and you have a proper ENGLISH supper!
Yes I know the chickenoctopus only has six legs. You try doing one!
and a picture?

Thanks Phil!

I was joking with you. The pewter ring is really silver. You can keep it… for now.

Eating octopus is worse than eating a dog or a cat. They’re intelligent animals, just like squid, but without the weaponry.
@ Bunk X:
It is a chikin’
Geeze….
@ Possum:
That looks good!
@ Bunk X:
lol
Well I am getting my grandson in the morning so I must rest up….
He really is the light of my life!
Good night all.
Nite Bunkyyyyyyyy

I hope it will be. It is now in the fridge, I will slide off the tomato and nuke it and eat it just before I go to bed.

Just had a long talk with Bunkarina. She ended up in a history class where she debated the teacher and won the argument. She was booted up into a high school honors class. LOL.
The teacher was touting the myth that Europeans (i.e., Columbus) intentionally brought disease to the native American tribes. Bunkarina argued that the colonists contracted disease from the indigenous people also, and shut the discussion down.
While we’re waiting for late-late nighters and early-early morningers to show up, here’s some toasting by U Roy.
@ Bunk X:
Good for Bunkarina. Debunkarina.
Been reading 1492. The Indians had weak immunity to viruses, but to stronger to parasites. Europeans -other way round. But parasites less deadly…
Did syphilis come from New World or is that debunked?
I love the “action” figure of Mrs. Jenkins.
I would like an action figure of Office Man.

I don’t know. The general point is that when you have two groups of people, who have been isolated from each other, and you mix them together, there’s gonna be a swap of pathogens that one group has become immune to. The colonists were the ones who always ate it big time. Like Moctezuma’s revenge.

After posting that in 2007, a commenter recobanized the school I mentioned, and remembered Mrs. Jenkins.
Blogmocracy needs a group of news links at the top upper right-hand corner.
Either a list, or a square of about 9 captioned pictures.
today would be;
castro saying communism doesn’t work
Castro saying amajindad sucks
Obama’s sad speech requesting $50 BILLION more dollars/ala DR EVIL
The fail-bop
current unemployment rate with article
etc
This would draw traffic. If it wasn’t too partisan, folks could get their morning news right here
A snapshot in time; The great Michael Savage on 9-11-2001

I do think it’s time for us to make the jump into the blog stratosphere. We have a wealth of talent and the mercurial personalities to pull it off. Of course this will require some discipline from everyone.
The truth has a certain ring to it:

Agree. It’s been in the planning stages for a while. I think M and Savage are on it, but I don’t know the details. It’s gonna happen before November. Meanwhile, keep your 1.0 socks clean!
Have a great Saturday all, and never forget.
I’m out for tonight. Don’t forget to put your flag out tomorrow.
It’s so quiet in here. I can hear the clock ticking.
By the way, the thread upstairs has no comment box.
@ Lost:
It’s so quiet I can hear the water on the glasses drying.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Are comments closed for the “Never Forget” post? I will not forget! I will not forget the shredded human beings on the streets of Nairobi either! I will not forget the victims of the Community Center (a true commnunity centre) in Buenos Aires nor the frightened children of Breslan. I will not forget the cause in which these atrocities took place!ROPMA!
@ African Moondog:
I think they’re waiting on that until 8 Eastern, but I’m not sure.
@ mfhorn:
Thanks, the scheduling seems to be a bit odd today. Anyway I have said my bit! I wonder if a certain ukelele plucker will plumb the depths of hypocrisy by having a similar post and at the same time trumpeting an edifice designed to strengthen the cause for which they were murdered?
Instead of the focus on korans we should put discussion why the loser GOP elites are getting all badass legal against a good woman.
@ waldensianspirit:
Because the elites do not like the thought of the hoi-polloi getting above their station.
Zip has a post on how Sarah Palin brilliantly pwns Arnold Schwazenegger which still makes me chuckle.
@ African Moondog:
Thanks, I’ll go look. Schwazenegger is a pathetic girlie man
lol! She wins again!
/There is a picture of Ted Kennedy that would superimpose that one
Free enterprise system we no have. Robber baron economics is back in style.
@ waldensianspirit:
Can I also become the CEO of a bankrupt auto manufacturer? I can do it just as well as the other guys!
@ African Moondog:
Must be nice, huh? I don’t agree these guys are worth that kind of money, but I also don’t think that under most circumstances, it’s the government’s business. Now, since the government OWNS the company, that’s one thing. But the bailouts were a bad idea, IMHO.
