Hon, I was the only one around when my Dad got sick. Two siblings live out of state and the other was in Iraq. Dad was pissed because, unlike most men, he did go to the doctor and tried to take care of himself. It was six months from diagnosis to the end. I was at the hospital alone with him until my brother’s friend and his Dad showed up. They said it wasn’t right that I was there alone. Sweet people they are…like family to me. Things got worse and worse and I told my Dad to let go and move on. Don’t wait for the others to come…they will be here when you wake up. He passed seconds after that. I think I needed to tell him it was ok to go. It was hard, but it was the right thing for me to do at the time. I remember one time Matt Murphy was playing the King Eddie hotel in Calgary, and had gotten into a long jazzy sort of jam. Some drunken lout up by the stage hollered, “Play some blues, that’s what we paid for!” (a whole five dollars back then, too)
Matt replied, “That is the blues, man! Blues and jazz both come from the same roots, but you just don’t understand that.” The crowd gave him a standing ovation.

CfnJ’s guitar playing was pretty good for the time and style. Zappa rejected him, though.
Guitar players, once they’ve got a bit of recognition, seem to have egos that get in the way of their own success. The rhythm section rarely leaves the band. Just an observation.
Well, my long night of waiting for the kiddies is over.
The children are both back under my roof after the Homecoming Dance. I can sleep peacefully now.
Good night all.
@ Bunk X:
Jeff Beck was saying how he wanted to be just a guitar player in a band but the record company wanted the focus to be on him, so they got this nobody to do vocals named Rod Stewart…

Rod Stewart. Meh.
@ mjazz:
The only Lenny Kravitz music that I can recall hearing was a rather lame cover of this:
The real thing is so much better!

Give us all a heads up as to which game she’s gonna sing at.
@ Bunk X:
I guess you have to explain everything around here.
The point is, Rod Stewart became a lot more successful than Jeff Beck.

Zappa rejected him because he really wasnt all that good. In fact, it was his not being all that damned good that got him recorded as often as he was. Stanley Clarke, Al Jarreau, Jaco Pastorius and the other people Charles recorded for wanted him specifically because his playing would never ever overshadow theirs.
Like I said, their is a reason he never recorded his own records or cd’s, if he actually had any damned talent he would have used it. He didnt and while he recorded on 29 records/CD’s none of them were his own, nobody in the entire music industry would risk their money recording him as the feature artist.

That’s debatable.

k.d. lang could easily kick his nuts through a garden hose and walk away singing.
@ doriangrey:
OK, chances are Rod Stewart probably made the record companies a little bit more money than Jeff Beck did and might have had a little bit more name recognition worldwide than Jeff Beck.
@ Bunk X:
Well, K.D., bless her heart, doesn’t have much use for nuts at the est of times.

Why wouldn’t he be? Friend of mine spotted George Thorogood leaning against a wall at an Angels’ game, same deal. No one else seemed to know who he was.

Yep. So now I’ve got a contest scheduled for tomorrow to make up for it. Ditto here (hint hint).

Oh…. So crashing your own blog was just a warm up for crashing here eh…
@ Bunk X:
No reason that he wouldn’t be, except that some people in the music biz get an ego so vast that they can’t bear to mingle with the plebes. Blues musicians, as a group, are thankfully free of this vice, although I can think of one or two exceptions.
Here’s another real gentleman of the blues, playing an instrument that isn’t often heard in that context:
Hi guys,
Did I miss all the galls?
@ Lost:
Must have done. But there are some good tunes on the youtubage.

I crash anywhere I need to. Actually, I didn’t crash my blog at all, and added a cool little widget linky today. Puts little red dots on a map. I’ve always wanted to put little red dots on a map.
@ Alberta Oil Peon:
As always.
Well, have a good night, all of you. I had a good day doing yard work, with a warm south wind and 70 degree temperatures to make it pleasant. But I have a sore back to show for it, so it’s off to the rack for me.
@ Alberta Oil Peon:
Have a good rest. Night.

Jeff Beck was Roger Waters’ original choice to replace Syd Barrett in Pink Floyd, and rumor has it that Beck was interested.
David Gilmour’s ties to the band made him more accessible.
I’m a huge Gilmour fan(duh), but musically it’s a pretty interesting “What if…”
I doubt Beck would’ve put up with Waters as long as Gilmour did, despite the admiration that he gives him in the article.
LOL!!
More motivation for me to get up and take care of the little vermin.

Heh. You go, VA !
