Chillin’ on Bath Day

Hefty Bathing with solar heated water is the latest trend in the hood, especially when the water’s been turned off for non-payment and you gotta drag a hose from the neighbor’s crib bibb. For a bubble bath, provide your own effervescence…  and you can think that one through for yourselves. Meanwhile, there’s this:

After reviewing some *cough* previous threads, this was one of the few comments that made me smile, and I thought it was only fitting to post it on an Overnight Open Thread.

Although heaven knows some of us try. :-)

Rain, I’m of the opinion that if I learn not to make that mistake by watching somebody else do it (as in, “ouch! that’s gonna leave a mark!”), then I figure the lesson was successful. OTOH, you are right, if, years down the road I find myself thinking, “yeah, I remember it hurt him when he did it, why am I surprised it hurt when I did it?”, then the first lesson didn’t take.

Hands down the dumbest thing I ever did was out run a cop on my way to work one Sunday morning. I had a 1984 Mercedes 500 SEL. I bought it off of an Airforce vet who purchased it in Germany. It was a bad car. I was late to work one Sunday morning and the freeway was clear. I was going about 130 and there was the cop on the feeder road. He hit the lights and I saw him headed out of his parking spot. Since I was going over twice the posted limit the chances of me going to jail were pretty good. So I decided that I might as well try and make the most of it. I hit the gas and before I exited the freeway about 1 1/2 miles later I was going 155. I flew down the feeder and whipped onto a side street. I watched the freeway from my spot and saw the cop flying on the freeway about a minute later. LOL, when I walked into work my boss said I looked like I had seen a ghost. I will never do that again….

That is true in most cases. We used to do some really stupid stuff when I was a kid. Like playing chicken with a cigarette. We would put our forearms together and drop a lit cigarette between us. The first one to release was the chicken. I still have those scars. And then there was the card game called knuckles were the loser had the skin of the knuckles removed by smacking the hand with the deck.

And my younger brother and I used to jump off the roof of our house with makeshift cardboard wings. Luckily we never broke any bones but more than once we landed wrong and ended up with major contusions.

One time I was late for a train, so I jumped through a hole in a barbed wire fence between the two tracks (with the train coming, not too far away) as a shortcut to the train station. I cut up my leg, so I went into the ladies’ washroom and mopped up the blood with paper towels and then got on the train.

There was a lady in the washroom who saw it and she seemed to be pretty spooked by the blood. I didn’t say anything.

    Yep…stooooppid…

When it comes to adult women being stupid, there’s usually a man in the picture.

    Or maybe several men.

Get to know yourself and feel okay being single. When the right one comes you will know it. Plus in dating listen to your brain and your heart. Because listening just to the heart can lead you to someone that isn’t right or good for you. I learned that very early. I listened to God and used my brain and my heart. Thank you Lily, that makes me feel good. I have faith, but it can be frustrating. I have problems because I’m one of those people that likes to go all in. I’m timid in the beginning, but if a relationship last long enough I start to get serious. After about the first year I generally let my self shine through and I feel commited to the person. My family is always saying that I will make a great husband and father, and I have no reason to doubt that. I haven’t had a lot of relationships but they have either been dramatically short or long term. It is either about a month, or two or more years. I think the worst thing is the long term ones, where they say all these things about the future and how deep their love is and then they give up. My generation sucks, lol.

    @ doriangrey:

Well, to some degree we are guided by him. Not as dramatically as a puppet master, but I feel him calling me to a path. It isn’t perfectly clear at the moment, but the steps I am taking feel right. I have had to rely on God more than anything else my entire life. My childhood was something most people don’t make it out of. My brother right under me has barely made it, and he has SERIOUS mental problems. He hasn’t relied on God at any point in his life and it shows. We went through most of the same things together and I am constantly trying to show him why I’m where I’m at because of God’s grace. He is slowly getting it, but it takes time with him. For the last 5 or 6 years I have strayed from the path of God and it has hurt me. My relationship with my ex had some influence on that, plus the friends I was spending time with. I love my friends, but they are stuck in a simple mindset and most deny His existance. I have started attending church again and I am spending as much free time with my family as possible. It is bringing me back to where I was supposed to be all along and I guess that’s the point I was trying to make.

The sense of which you and SADM speak isnt something that you just let him do. It is something that you have to make the active choice to pursue. Seek and you will find, ask and you will receive, knock and the door will be opened to you.

So often people will say, God helps those who help themselves, but the truth is, that no he doesn’t. He helps those who are unable to help themselves. For while we were yet still sinners, in due time Christ died for the unrighteous.

He did not do this to makes slaves of us, he did it because he loves us, there is not a word on my tongue but you do not altogether know it, when I was yet unborn in my mothers womb you knew me.

The choice is up to each person exactly what kind of relationship they have with God, some people both want and need an incredible intimate relationship with him others need a more formal authoritarian relationship.

One thing the scriptures make abundantly clear is that your relationship with god is yours to work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure .

    @ Lily:

Never could figure out why, but dark hair and green eyes are my thing. Not a big fan of blondes. I mean I like them as people and all, but there has only been one girl that I fell for with blonde hair. Still talk to her actually but we are just friends.

And in no manner was I suggesting that we just move along and let the chips fall where they may, as it were. I spoke of definite choices made that were buttressed with a sure providence that the paths taken were ordained as the right choice. However I didn’t use that same language.

I must suggest that the beginning of a serious walk with Christ is wrought with personal sacrifice and that attitude doesn’t change after the initial first steps. We have Christ as our example as well as the first disciples who abandoned all what others would consider their livelihood to follow this man. And we can also cite Abraham who left his home and family and moved towards what many would calle uncertainty to adhere to the call of God.

Paul, who is considered by many to the most prolific of the apostles started his letter to the Romans with this.

Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God.

It is true that we are no longer slaves to sin, but have become the servants of God. There is a fine distinction between the two terms. A slave must serve without choice, but a servant does so of their own free will and volition.

    The late great Larry Norman.

I am a servant, I am listening for my name,
I sit here waiting, I’ve been looking at the game
That I’ve been playing, and I’ve been staying much the same
When you are lonely, you’re the only one to blame.

I am a servant, I am waiting for the call,
I’ve been unfaithful, so I sit here in the hall.
How can you use me when I’ve never given all,
How can you choose me when you know I’d quickly fall.

So you feed my soul and you make me grow,
And you let me know you love me.
And I’m worthless now, but I’ve made a vow,
I will humbly bow before thee.
O please use me, I am lonely.

I am a servant getting ready for my part,
There’s been a change, a rearrangement in my heart.
At last I’m learning, there’s no returning once I start.
To live’s a privilege, to love is such an art
But I need your help to start,
O please purify my heart, I am your servant

How to lose with dignity, via a Tea Party candidate:

The coming voter statement in November reflects the fact that our nation is in a fiscal, national security, and moral crisis. Voters are demanding conservative leadership in Washington which is accountable to the people, and not the party bosses or the special interests. Americans seek authentic conservative leaders who understand first that the Constitution is a limiting document, not a living document, and second that if elected, they will work to devolve power from Washington back to the States and the people.

I became a candidate for U.S. Senate because of the urgent need for conservative leaders who are willing to advocate for a constitutional conservative agenda. I am a conservative first and a Republican second. Like many other Americans, I do not necessarily equate an “R” after a candidate’s name with conservatism. The truth is, many Americans have been rightfully disaffected with the Republican Party because past leaders have broken faith with the core conservative principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and national security, including border security, that are at the heart of our Republican platform.

Contrast this to Lisa Murkowski’s hissy fit, and you’ll understand why some of us would rather field a “Tea Party” candidate than more electable RINO.

    @ Bumr50:

Oops. I missed the gravy of the piece. It’s early. Here you go.

When faced with the option of a recount, I ultimately declined. My foremost concern is defeating Paul Hodes and his liberal agenda, and I feared that the delay in unifying our party would negatively affect our ability to win in November. Accordingly, when Kelly Ayotte was declared the primary winner in a very close race, I waived our right to a recount and committed my support to her campaign, asking my supporters to do the same. I am not so presumptuous as to think that my word alone will transfer support from my supporters, but it was an important first step to enable her to earn their support with my help.

‘Stand your ground’ bill set for final House approval

    By Brad Bumsted
    TRIBUNE-REVIEW
    Tuesday, October 5, 2010

HARRISBURG — The state House today is expected to give final approval to so-called “stand your ground” legislation, a self-defense bill that gun advocates have pushed unsuccessfully for six years.

With broad bipartisan support, the House gave preliminary approval Monday to the legislation, also known as the “Castle Doctrine” extension bill. It was approved by a 156-41 margin.

Under the Castle Doctrine, people are permitted to defend themselves with deadly force without retreat in their homes. Outside the home, retreat — taking steps away from the assailant — is required to shoot in self-defense.

The legislation would extend the Castle Doctrine to a person’s porch, yard, car or any place someone is “lawfully allowed to be,” said Rep. Scott Perry, R-York County, the bill’s sponsor.

    It’s my birthday – Yay!

It says something about how far off the path this country has gotten that this has to even be codified into law. The Right to Self-Defence is implicit in the Second Amendment and in the Social Contract Theory that the Constitution is based on. That it should have to be explicitly re-affirmed shows how far astray the Progs have lead us.

Seriously though do you have a camera budget? All sorts of used deals out there for cameras. Oh, and lenses too.

    @ citizen_q:

I could never live in such a State. The laws of Self-Defense take primacy over even income tax in my choice of where to live. Fortunately, Tennessee where I lve has neither a tate income tax nor ornerous restrictions on self-defense. Several years ago, the grandmother of the woman I was living with was assaulted and nearly murdered by a home invader. I heard with my own ears a Sherriff’s Deputy tell her to buy a gun, and if he came back to kill him, and they would come clean up the mess. It is hard to find a place with better firearms laws than Tennessee. Arizona is the only one that I can think of off the top of my head. We have a Firearms Freedom act, though I haven’t tried to get Barrett to sell me something intrastate withouth all the Federal niceties. Someday, maybe.

As long as you are handing out scripts, Demerol works fine for me. Mmmmmm, Demerol….

I’m going to be in and out today, but if anyone gets a sec I think my 309 might make a good thread for later on.

In reality I’ve only had it twice. Once was with a valium for pulling my wisdom teeth. Oh, my. Just a bit too drugged out for my taste :P But no, it never made me sick. I’m really a lightweight. Percocets or codine and I’m fine. Damn those nasty perscription laws

Are comments supposed to be off for 1389′s thread? I don’t know how to change it (if I can change it), but they are off right now.

There has been a whole series of SNAFUS regarding scheduling and now this.

No big deal. It’s not like getting a flat tire in a rain storm

    @ Iron Fist:

I lived in TN when I was stationed at FT. Campbell. Beautiful state, real estate was relatively affordable at least back then. I could have owned a huge beautiful house on a large lot for the price of a hovel here.

However, this is where I grew-up and returned when my mother’s health started to fail. Subsequently the wife especially has put down roots. Even a move to Virginia would be a big improvement and closer to various employers for my line of work, but my wife’s happiness is very important to me so here I am.

    @ Speranza:

We are amatures, here, so there will be little problems from time to time. I think the fact that we get out views that are quashed by the MFM more than makes up for the occasional and innevitble SNAFUs.

Yeah, a lot of it is where you put down roots. This was where my family was, bu tmy grandparents have died and my parents and sisters live in South Carolina. I, myself, would not move to South Carolina for a Primo job at the FN plant they have there (I think they make SAWs, too). I hate that State, hate to even visit it and avoid that as much as I can. My dojo was here, but Sensei has also passed on, as has my weapons instructor, and my third instructor has retired. There isn’t much to hold me here, but I have a good job, the scenery is beautiful, and my Old Lady, who moved out here from California to be with me, has fallen in love with it. I’d rather move to Tampa, but she hates the heat and humidity that far south. I’d mover to Arizona, but she doesn’t like the desert. So here we will stay, for the foreseeable future. I’m content with that.

I’d love to have a small place out in the desert in AZ, at least to visit for several months a year. I love the scenery, and hiking in the desert. I also like the gun laws the possibilities for shooting with all that space.
