Hefty Bathing with solar heated water is the latest trend in the hood, especially when the water’s been turned off for non-payment and you gotta drag a hose from the neighbor’s crib bibb. For a bubble bath, provide your own effervescence… and you can think that one through for yourselves. Meanwhile, there’s this:

After reviewing some *cough* previous threads, this was one of the few comments that made me smile, and I thought it was only fitting to post it on an Overnight Open Thread.

Hands down the dumbest thing I ever did was out run a cop on my way to work one Sunday morning. I had a 1984 Mercedes 500 SEL. I bought it off of an Airforce vet who purchased it in Germany. It was a bad car. I was late to work one Sunday morning and the freeway was clear. I was going about 130 and there was the cop on the feeder road. He hit the lights and I saw him headed out of his parking spot. Since I was going over twice the posted limit the chances of me going to jail were pretty good. So I decided that I might as well try and make the most of it. I hit the gas and before I exited the freeway about 1 1/2 miles later I was going 155. I flew down the feeder and whipped onto a side street. I watched the freeway from my spot and saw the cop flying on the freeway about a minute later. LOL, when I walked into work my boss said I looked like I had seen a ghost. I will never do that again….

That is true in most cases. We used to do some really stupid stuff when I was a kid. Like playing chicken with a cigarette. We would put our forearms together and drop a lit cigarette between us. The first one to release was the chicken. I still have those scars. And then there was the card game called knuckles were the loser had the skin of the knuckles removed by smacking the hand with the deck.
And my younger brother and I used to jump off the roof of our house with makeshift cardboard wings. Luckily we never broke any bones but more than once we landed wrong and ended up with major contusions.
@ linoleumknife:
You were lucky flying at that speed and a wreck would have killed you.
Now the dumbest thing said son did was get picked up by a cop and cop came to my door at 9:30 at night for me to go get him. If anything he should have been arrested for fashion crimes, but never the least…that sent him to military school. I always said if a cop came to my door for something they did they would go to military school and he did. Guess what …. he is a cop now.

Well, I’m not saying what I did was smart, or right, but the freeway was clear. There may have been two cars on the 5 mile ride to work. I’m actually a pretty damned good driver. I started driving at 19 and in the 8 years I have been driving I have only had one wreck, and two tickets. I have logged around 275,000 miles in those 8 years. Both of the tickets were for expired stickers. The wreck was caused by a f’in drunk whipping out in front of me from a shopping center. I had no time to react. It sucked.

When I got married, I had a hard time learning to cook for 2.
I am the oldest of 10 and was used to cook/shopping in bulk. It took time but I learnt the tricks to calculating portions.
At times I have been tempted to do fast food but here its not as cheap as in the US. I have the recipes that the kids like and alternate week to week. Living in Australia we eat a lot of meat and fish.

Break up with me and moves in with the dope head ex. Don’t have a care in the world for her now. I have been on two dates in the last 6 months and they didn’t get past the first week after that. Now I’m not even interested. I have God, family and work to focus on. I think that with all of the coming problems our nation faces God wants me to be free to focus on that. I could be wrong, just what I feel at the moment.
@ Lost:
Yeah they are costly no doubt. And especially if there are many mouths to feed. For just me and my son dropping 40 bucks is a given.
As the middle child in a family of 10 we never dined out.
The first time I dined at a restaurant was at age 12, and it was the result of my first job. The girl across the street and I started a car washing kid business during the summer of 69. It was just a Diner but it was a first.
I finally paid off the ex. I got out of it cheap but if I knew that if they leave it’s called abandonment and they get nada then chances are she would have got nothin.

Well I’m glad that you have that burden lifted from you. Divorce is never pretty. I’m a little uneasy with the way that men are treated in a divorce. At least from the court side of things. It seems that no matter what the man gets screwed with all the debt and child support/allimony(sp?). I have seen some women treat their husbands like complete crap and leave for no other reason than she’s bored and the dude still gets the short end after the courts settle. Oh well, I guess that’s the price we pay.

And to you linoleumknife, being young and realizing that your focus should be on what God wants regardless of your physical needs is commendable and shows real respect for the calling of God.
@ linoleumknife:
You are right some women do men terribly wrong.
But when my brother’s wife left him and him in debt and took the two
children. In court he got the children. And she had to pay child support although she never did. The courts are changing.
@ Lily:
Thank you Lily, that makes me feel good. I have faith, but it can be frustrating. I have problems because I’m one of those people that likes to go all in. I’m timid in the beginning, but if a relationship last long enough I start to get serious. After about the first year I generally let my self shine through and I feel commited to the person. My family is always saying that I will make a great husband and father, and I have no reason to doubt that. I haven’t had a lot of relationships but they have either been dramatically short or long term. It is either about a month, or two or more years. I think the worst thing is the long term ones, where they say all these things about the future and how deep their love is and then they give up. My generation sucks, lol.

There is a lonely woman out there waiting for someone too. First get right with oneself…..it is okay to be single…you will gain alot.
We all have had our hearts broken at one time in this life.
@ doriangrey:
Well, to some degree we are guided by him. Not as dramatically as a puppet master, but I feel him calling me to a path. It isn’t perfectly clear at the moment, but the steps I am taking feel right. I have had to rely on God more than anything else my entire life. My childhood was something most people don’t make it out of. My brother right under me has barely made it, and he has SERIOUS mental problems. He hasn’t relied on God at any point in his life and it shows. We went through most of the same things together and I am constantly trying to show him why I’m where I’m at because of God’s grace. He is slowly getting it, but it takes time with him. For the last 5 or 6 years I have strayed from the path of God and it has hurt me. My relationship with my ex had some influence on that, plus the friends I was spending time with. I love my friends, but they are stuck in a simple mindset and most deny His existance. I have started attending church again and I am spending as much free time with my family as possible. It is bringing me back to where I was supposed to be all along and I guess that’s the point I was trying to make.

The choice is up to each person exactly what kind of relationship they have with God, some people both want and need an incredible intimate relationship with him others need a more formal authoritarian relationship.
One thing the scriptures make abundantly clear is that your relationship with god is yours to work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure .

I like that. Your MIL sounds like a neat woman. LOL, so I guess what you are saying is that you have fair skin and dark hair… Truth be told, almost every girl I have dated has been “short”. I’m just shy of 6’3″ and for some reason I only dated one girl who was tall. The rest have been 5’6″ or shorter. The average has probably been around 5’4″.
@ Lily:
Never could figure out why, but dark hair and green eyes are my thing. Not a big fan of blondes. I mean I like them as people and all, but there has only been one girl that I fell for with blonde hair. Still talk to her actually but we are just friends.

I must suggest that the beginning of a serious walk with Christ is wrought with personal sacrifice and that attitude doesn’t change after the initial first steps. We have Christ as our example as well as the first disciples who abandoned all what others would consider their livelihood to follow this man. And we can also cite Abraham who left his home and family and moved towards what many would calle uncertainty to adhere to the call of God.
Paul, who is considered by many to the most prolific of the apostles started his letter to the Romans with this.
It is true that we are no longer slaves to sin, but have become the servants of God. There is a fine distinction between the two terms. A slave must serve without choice, but a servant does so of their own free will and volition.

I am a servant, I am listening for my name,
I sit here waiting, I’ve been looking at the game
That I’ve been playing, and I’ve been staying much the same
When you are lonely, you’re the only one to blame.
I am a servant, I am waiting for the call,
I’ve been unfaithful, so I sit here in the hall.
How can you use me when I’ve never given all,
How can you choose me when you know I’d quickly fall.
So you feed my soul and you make me grow,
And you let me know you love me.
And I’m worthless now, but I’ve made a vow,
I will humbly bow before thee.
O please use me, I am lonely.
I am a servant getting ready for my part,
There’s been a change, a rearrangement in my heart.
At last I’m learning, there’s no returning once I start.
To live’s a privilege, to love is such an art
But I need your help to start,
O please purify my heart, I am your servant

It says something about how far off the path this country has gotten that this has to even be codified into law. The Right to Self-Defence is implicit in the Second Amendment and in the Social Contract Theory that the Constitution is based on. That it should have to be explicitly re-affirmed shows how far astray the Progs have lead us.

It sure is a shame. Most people do not realize that the police have no duty to protect you. Self-defense is criminalized in many places, such as where I live. Living in cuba in the Chesapeake otherwise known as Maryland even if I defend myself within the very narrow confines of the law here I can expect to lose most of my life’s assets defending myslef a second time in court.

I could never live in such a State. The laws of Self-Defense take primacy over even income tax in my choice of where to live. Fortunately, Tennessee where I lve has neither a tate income tax nor ornerous restrictions on self-defense. Several years ago, the grandmother of the woman I was living with was assaulted and nearly murdered by a home invader. I heard with my own ears a Sherriff’s Deputy tell her to buy a gun, and if he came back to kill him, and they would come clean up the mess. It is hard to find a place with better firearms laws than Tennessee. Arizona is the only one that I can think of off the top of my head. We have a Firearms Freedom act, though I haven’t tried to get Barrett to sell me something intrastate withouth all the Federal niceties. Someday, maybe.

However, this is where I grew-up and returned when my mother’s health started to fail. Subsequently the wife especially has put down roots. Even a move to Virginia would be a big improvement and closer to various employers for my line of work, but my wife’s happiness is very important to me so here I am.

Yeah, a lot of it is where you put down roots. This was where my family was, bu tmy grandparents have died and my parents and sisters live in South Carolina. I, myself, would not move to South Carolina for a Primo job at the FN plant they have there (I think they make SAWs, too). I hate that State, hate to even visit it and avoid that as much as I can. My dojo was here, but Sensei has also passed on, as has my weapons instructor, and my third instructor has retired. There isn’t much to hold me here, but I have a good job, the scenery is beautiful, and my Old Lady, who moved out here from California to be with me, has fallen in love with it. I’d rather move to Tampa, but she hates the heat and humidity that far south. I’d mover to Arizona, but she doesn’t like the desert. So here we will stay, for the foreseeable future. I’m content with that.
