Bloody Mushrooms With Teeth

The Blood-Tooth Mushroom

“The young fruitbody is spongy and characteristically exudes droplets of red fluid. Later the fruitbody becomes tougher and teeth develop on the underside.”

That appears to be a good description of some members of congress, especially the part about developing teeth on the underside. Ugh. I wouldn’t lick it.

BUT if I did I’d prolly run for Senator… and win. My soul would be gone forever, and I’d be sitting on dentures in my old age and talking out my posterior, just like most Senators. Gives me the willies, but it also serves as an appetizer for the Overnight Open Thread.

    What a revolting fungal growth!

But enough about POTUS and his sycophantic followers.

    Weird mushroom, eh?

    @ Kirly:
There’s quite a variety of species in the fungus family. Some of them are indeed harmful or dangerous; others are delicious and are a good source of dietary minerals.

The flesh is dingy brown with a peppery taste. Widespread and not uncommon, it fruits on the ground under conifers. Not edible.

Why does the original article describe the taste, if the fungus is inedible?

But they’ve got zero calories, and are flavor carriers!

On the other hand, there are species that can kill you within an hour. Unless you have a microscope and the knowledge to identify the spores, never eat wild mushrooms.

We had a small crop of morels a couple of years ago, haven’t seen ‘em since. They go for $5+ a pound, but I didn’t trust them either.

Although the fruit bodies of H. peckii have been described as resembling “Danish pastry topped with strawberry jam”,[8] and Hydnellum species in general are not known to be poisonous,[33] they are inedible due to their extremely bitter taste.

Thats what the article on them at Wiki says.

Although the fruit bodies of H. peckii have been described as resembling “Danish pastry topped with strawberry jam”,[8] and Hydnellum species in general are not known to be poisonous,[33] they are inedible due to their extremely bitter taste.[8] This acridity persists even in dried specimens.[24]

The fruit bodies of this and other Hydnellum species are prized by mushroom dyers.[34] The colors may range from beige when no mordant is used, to various shades of blue or green depending on the mordant added.[24]

well here is something to get excited about
    bloody democrats
(take with a grain of salt)

    Republican trend grows
By Dick Morris And Eileen McGann

The mainstream media is peddling the line that the Democrats are staging a comeback, slicing Republican leads. It is absolute nonsense. A close review of polling in every close House race in the nation indicates that Republicans now lead in 53 seats currently held by Democrats and are within five points in 20 more

On the Senate level, Republicans now lead in all ten states that are necessary for GOP control of the Senate, the smallest margin coming in Nevada where the Rasmussen Poll has the Republican, Sharron Angle, four points ahead.

If I’m reading between the lines right he’s kinda-sorta predicting 72/11,he’s calling that his lowball, conservative, not-crazy-sounding prediction, but maybe it’s not his real prediction, either, wink-wink).

I know…it’s weird, but shell fish, to me, are just big bugs in water. I have eaten crab once, lobster more than three times and shrimp a bunch of times. Calamari once, only because I didn’t know what I was eating. Oysters or other shell animals. No.

For water food, fish is more appealing, and I would pick it over shell fish on any given day, anytime, anywhere.

Medvedev: Schwarzenegger next Mayor of Moscow!

Arnold Schwarzengger inspected the foundations of Russia’s planned Silicon Valley on Monday, and heaped praise on everything from the ruling tandem to the president’s driving.

In return he was jokingly invited to take up the role of Moscow mayor when his gubernatorial term ends early next year as Dmitry Medvedev kept up the old pals patter perfected on his trip to California this summer.

    Austrian adulation

“I love places where there is an extraordinary potential,” California governor Schwarzenegger, 63, told members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia in Moscow on Monday. “It’s almost like looking at a gold or diamond mine and saying: all you got to do is go in there and get it,” Bloomberg reported.

“It’s perfect timing for Putin to be prime minister and Medvedev to be president,” Schwarzenegger said. “This is the ideal time, when things are still at a raw level.”

There is much to digest there.

We do have a link to the EDL here on the sidebar and one of their leaders visited us in the past to take questions. As it goes in any tough room there were many challenging comments, as there should be.

It appears the EDL is the American equivalent of the Tea Party, maligned by the MSM here, as the EDL is there.

To change the meme, both the composition and the strategy of the EDL need to change. The “skinhead” stereotype has to be retired — and I say this as an admirer of the EDL; I recognize that the poor fellow in the photo is one of the heroes of our time, as are all those brave souls who venture out into the mean streets to risk their lives and livelihood for the cause.

The Left leaning media here, as there, are looking for demons in the choir bench. But as mentioned in the post in the link, that pic was used to manufacture a poster child, and is not representative of the whole movement.

Well, no mushrooms with my Thanksgiving dinner, although I did see some shaggy manes growing around here. They are pretty tasty when fresh.

I had bacon and eggs, with a fresh garden tomato, and my dessert is apple pie with cheddar cheese melted on top.

Regular visitors may have noticed the Amazon Honor System link we installed about a week ago. No, you’re not obligated to pay for LGF. Not at all. Not one bit. This weblog is as much for us as for anyone; lately I’ve been using it as a way to figure out what I really stand for, after a life of not having to care very much.   It’s not all about the Benjamins, baby…

I have eaten some weird stuff. Most of the strangest things have been Asian. My grandpa did a ton of business over there when I was child and I was exposed to many different Eastern cultures at a young age. My favorite strange food though is frog legs. Brown the chops in butter, take them off the skillet and toss the onions in. Brown the onions, return the pork chops to the skillet, salt and pepper them, cover them with the onions and let ‘em cook on low for an hour. Serve ‘em up with applesauce. Yum!

“Mosques are plenty, graveyards are plenty, but morals and whiskey are scarce. The Koran does not permit Mohammedans to drink. Their natural instincts do not permit them to be moral.”
    - Mark Twain

“When I, a thoughtful and unblessed Presbyterian, examine the Koran, I know that beyond any question every Mohammedan is insane, not in all things, but in religious matters. I cannot prove to him that he is insane, because you never can prove anything to a lunatic — for that is a part of his insanity and the evidence of it.”

Apparently in The Netherlands telling the truth about islam is against the law.

Prosecutors: Dutch anti-Islam politician can’t defend himself by arguing his comments are true

AMSTERDAM — Populist politician Geert Wilders’ negative views of Islam — he has called it “retarded” and “inherently violent” — are his opinions, not irrefutable facts, Dutch prosecutors argued Tuesday at Wilders’ criminal trial for inciting hatred.

Wilders has argued that his views of Islam are supported by expert and academic analysis, and that the charges against him are an attack on the freedom of speech.

But at the second hearing of his closely watched trial, prosecutors countered that there is no general agreement about the nature of Islam, and Wilders’ statements are opinions that cross the legal threshold.

Under Dutch law, it is illegal to insult or incite hatred against a group of people on the basis of gender, religion, race or sexuality.

“What he puts forward is, and remains, his individual opinion, and just like with any expression of opinion, we can test whether it falls under the right to freedom of expression or whether it is a transgression of the criminal code,” said prosecutor Birgit van Roessel.
