Basic Concept Is Incongruent With Self

A clever concept is nothing more than an idea, and if it’s practical, it may have many applications. Of course, Mr. Concept doesn’t care about any of that, but go talk to Miss Application and you’ll get an entirely different story, especially on an Overnight Open Thread.

Well I have some free time now. I just contacted a friend of mine, a self-declared libertarian (he wants to be the next Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck) and a highly impassioned one at that, inviting him to join this blog.

Seems to me that an LAX plane couldn’t have produced a contrail that high up, and there’s not been such concern about jet aircraft before. Rumors include amateur rocketry (boogah boogah). My guess is that it was a military test. Nothing was hit, and the Pentagon is not talking.

    @ snork:
Occam’s Razor, man. The simplest explanation is probably the correct one.

    1. The original video was shot by the mainstream media. When have they ever gotten anything right? They are, after all, people who went to J-school because “Science is too hard.”

    2. You call up the military with a breathless report about a missile launch someplace offshore of California, and expect them to pick one of hundreds of airline flights that could possibly create a contrail in the general area, and nail down the exact flight? Chances are the guy who took the video couldn’t give you even approximate geographic coordinates for the phenomenon he recorded.

    3. Contrails, and even natural clouds, viewed just after sunset, can have a very unearthly look to them, because they are brilliantly sunlit, while the horizon is dark. I have a great photo of lenticular clouds that makes it look like Calgary is under attack by a fleet of peach-colored UFOs.

Telescopes have drawers, too. At least the ones that actually telescope. I have an old single-drawer naval-style telescope that came down to me from my grandfather, but they made them 2, 3 or more drawers, i.e. sliding sections.

  58. song_and_dance_man
    58 | November 10, 2010 12:04 am

    @ snork:

BS. Not you, but the explanation.

There is no way that was a plane. I lived on the Left Coast for the greater part of my life and saw many missile launches. Spectacular to say the least coming from Edwards.

This was a test by the military. As with all military experiments they will be hush to this latest test.

Honor-killing of youths for kufr and shirk is in the Koran — Surah al-Kahf…

Here’s the interpretation provided in Tafsir al-Jalalayn…

So they [Musa and al-Khidr] set off, after leaving the ship, making their way on foot, until, when they met a boy, who had not yet reached puberty, playing with [other] boys, among whom his face was the fairest — and he, al-Khidr, slew him, by slitting his throat with a knife while he lay down, or by tearing his head off with his hand, or by smashing his head against a wall, all of which are [different] opinions (the coordinating fā’ [of fa-qatalahu, ‘and he slew him’] is used here because [it indicates that] the slaying took place after the encounter…

And as for the boy, his parents were believers and We feared lest he should overwhelm them with insolence and disbelief — for he is as [described] by the hadīth of Muslim, ‘He was [incorrigibly] disposed to disbelief, and had he lived [longer] this [disposition of his] would have oppressed them, because of their love for him, they would have followed him in such [a path of disbelief]’.

    @ coldwarrior:

    @ coldwarrior:
It doesn’t have to be LAX, or any of the other airports in the Basin. It could be overflying LA. Elsewhere, I read that a flight from Honolulu to Phoenix is a likely candidate, time-wise.

The military and civil aviation authorities no doubt do have information on the exact flight paths of all large aircraft in the area. The problem is, that it’s pretty unlikely the author of the video can provide an exact description of his location, and an exact description of the azimuth and elevation of the supposed missile from that point, which you would absolutely need to reconcile it with any known flight.

Kind of like you were to call 911, “I just saw a car wreck.” “Where?” “On highway 99, somewhere between Fresno and Bakersfield.” “Thanks, that narrows it right down!”

Exactly. I remember an incident many years ago here where an airplane had a leaky head which formed a big iceball on the outside made out of sewage, and upon decent it warmed up and broke loose and fell through someone’s roof and into his living room. He didn’t have any difficulty pinning down which airline and flight it had to be. They settled.

There are satellites that look for launch signatures, but they only look at certain places. They can’t see everything, so they’re positioned to observe known or suspected launch sites.

35 miles off the coast of California wouldn’t generally be considered one of those…

I have a buddy that runs one of those systems, yea they are pretty archaic, not sure they are actually as old as CW says, but they are definitely not state of the art. I’m pretty sure that the data is retrievable with an hour or two. That’s all it took to check the flight paths of the 9/11 aircraft.

More importantly, if it had been a commercial aircraft it would have been identified in far less than 24 hours. The fact that they still cant tell anyone specifically which aircraft it was is a pretty significant indication that it wasn’t a commercial aircraft.

One more final point, I talked about this incident with someone I know who used to be in the intelligence industry. He coughed into his sleeve and said, and I quote… “secret US Naval test” unquote.

The consensus I am hearing from my old spook friends is, This was both a secret test and a intentional warning shot directed at Russia and China. What was the message? Hey stupid, our ICBM’s have stealth clocking technology. We can launch a ICBM and you will have no warning what so ever before it detonates over one of your cities.

I didn’t catch the name of that player, but I think Number 14 was Brett Trajan. Can you confirm that, Jack?

Now that is a nic I’ve not seen in a long time. trajan. And to be honest, Jack, from his ‘you’re busted’ time in the old days of the league he hasn’t been seen since. But because you bring him up, it is mighty fitting that his nic is attached to the golden asses at the end of the blog rainbow.

A mu’min finally admits that Islam is colonialist!

to a certain exent Islam is colonialism but its not an arab colonialism but rather Allah SWT colonialism as everything belongs to Him.

it is natural for the deposed to be subjected to the victorious. don’t expect equal treatment and privileges. in Islam, Muslims follow the Al Quran and hadiths and sunnahs of Muhammad SAW. the latter was in principle, arabic in nature.

In reality, both terms are initially neutral until acted upon by human beings; they can be either positive or negative…

It’s really fascinating to read about Omani Arab Imperialism — the Sultanate of Oman’s holdings into the 20th century encompassed land from today’s Pakistan (historic Sindh) to Tanzania (the island of Zanzibar was an Arab colony which prospered due to black slavery.)

Christian woman sentenced to death in Pakistan ‘for blasphemy’

A Christian woman has been sentenced to hang in Pakistan after being convicted of defaming the Prophet Mohammed.

Asia Bibi, a 45-year-old mother-of-five, denies blasphemy and told investigators that she was being persecuted for her faith in a country where Christians face routine harassment and discrimination.

In light of all of the sloppy wet kisses he’s been delivering to oh so tolerant Islam, maybe Obama could use a little of his “Muslim street cred” to save this woman’s life.

I don’t think this ruling will stand. The Mormons no longer practice polygamy because it conflicted with U.S. civil laws. That’s a clear precident, no?

    Bibi pees on Obama’s waffles:

When asked in about Israel’s plans for 1,000 housing units for a contested part of East Jerusalem, Mr. Obama said, “This kind of activity is never helpful when it comes to peace negotiations.”

“I’m concerned that we’re not seeing each side make the extra effort involved to get a breakthrough,” the president added during his visit to Indonesia. “Each of these incremental steps can end up breaking trust.”

A few hours later, Mr. Netanyahu’s office responded with a statement, saying that “Jerusalem is not a settlement; Jerusalem is the capital of the State of Israel.”

No, I had not seen that, thanks, I’ll check it out. Yeah, that “wall of separation” that the libs always crow about seems to be all but invisable when it comes to Mohammadans. In their mad rush to be “tolerant”, they are in clear violation of the establishment clause.

I foresee SCOTUS eventually getting involved in this, and it’s a damned shame that Obama has already appointed two Justices and has two more years left.

The way you treat subordinates, waitresses, service people, etc., is a true test of character. I once read about a business executive who always took his prospective managers to lunch, just to see how they reacted to waitresses.
