Leftovers

Once in a while I start to clean out my cache of image files, and once in a while I find something I just can’t delete, but also don’t know quite what to do with.

Obviously the only proper and respectful thing to do is to post it on The Overnight Open Thread.

I looked at some more information on that kid in KC that got slapped, and his mom wrote the 40 page rant to the school board. Someone went through and ran a total of all her demands, went to a near extreme on some of them (the car of her choice- a Lamborghini), and came up with an estimated payoff for a slap of somewhere just north of $10 million.

The mom’s a jazz singer, and actually has a decent voice. It’s just too bad she’s completely lost her mind.

    coldwarrior wrote:

    @ doriangrey:
    musical question for ya.
do you think that peeps are born with musical ability or are they trained?

Both. Musical ability starts with the ability to hear that their is a difference between tones. People who don’t have that pretty much cannot be trained as a musician. Fortunately people who are genuinely tone deaf are actually pretty rare.

Some, a very few I might add, people are born with an exceptional tonal memory, they are the insanely gifted prodigies. The rest of us have to work at it, so yes most people have to be trained and in fact given the right training can become exceptionally skilled and “talented” musicians.

Musical talent really is far more trained skill then anything else. The idea that practice makes perfect genuinely has more reality to it than myth. Musicians like Steve Vai or Joe Satirani started out with just about the same natural talent as everyone else, it is the amount of and quality of education and practice that sets them apart from everyone else.

Music is a discipline, if you can accept and embrace the discipline and get a good instructor and have the time to dedicate to it, pretty much anyone can become a musician of their caliber.

thanks, i watched puti do some interesting stuff on a keyboard over the past couple of days. the keyboard is a standard modern panasonic that has all the buttons and things. it was her her great grandma’s (g’ma used to have the standard organ in her house for church music)

what puti did was hit a few keys, then a few more, then stop.

then she started really using her fingers on both hands to hit many keys, then would find a few keys that sounded good together.

it is very interesting to watch.

it is very interesting to watch.

Children, especially when really young seem to have an natural ability to place their conscience mind in their fine motor control centers. It has something to do with the fact that they are at the absolute pinnacle of the learning curve. The problem is that they are learning so much so fast that their attention span and retention rate is very small.

The best age for beginning the discipline of music is around 7, if you can get them interested and keep them interested and get them a really good teacher they will develop amazing skills, usually becoming accomplished Musicians by the age of 15. By the age of 20, they are world class material.

robotech is one of the originals, from 1984 or so.

the main characters get killed off, it is epic, really.

there has been a recent franchise, but the original series is needed for the next to make any sense.

and, the mmatrix movies are widely interpreted as being derived from the anime ‘ghost in the shell’, which is also very compelling.

I can put you in contact with the company I used to sell for. They’ll provide all the training and materials at no expense to you, it’s totally commission-based sales, requiring no experience. But you should be able to make $40K, if not more, in your first year.

I did, got a different primary instructor and moved on. Which also really pissed Dr. Speigal off. Actually pretty much everything I did pissed her off. Fortunately the department head and my theory professor thought the whole situation was rather amusing.

My theory professor, a little old German man named Dr. Walter Touche thought pissing off Dr Speigal was a glorious gas. He more than anyone made it possible for me to continue on with my degree by giving me an enormous amount of moral support. He was in his 90′s and thought that Dr. Speigal was a grouchy old bag of hot air.

I had a little Jazz/Rock fusion trio that I played with on campus for beer and extra spending money, Dr. Touche used to come and watch us play, and give us pointers and idea’s and drink beer with us. He was a genuinely inspiring wonderful human being. Sadly he passed away about 20 years ago, I do miss him.

if food does not hit the lower portion of the stomach, then there is a multifold efect

first: ACH (on vagus) are removed, therefore somatostatin is removed, therefore the stomach acid is removed, this removes chyme from the digestive equation…the food enters the small intestine at a higher pH, causing some of the pancratic X-ases to be more efficient and relying on the small intestine which has less AcH sending ability to be the main digestive organ.

I don’t think most people realize how bad it really is.

If you meet the “minimum requirements” on a job listing, it’s not worth the time to apply. Your application will be screened out by their software, and a human won’t even see it.

If you have the “desirable qualifications,” a human might see your application, but it’ll be one of 50.

Out of that pool, the top 4 or 5 will get interviews.

Credit card processing. I’ve been doing it for 5 years. The only reason I left the company I started with was to become a partner in a new company, and as you can see, we’re the 11th fastest growing privately owned company in the USA.

Now, that being said, the company I started with will assign a sales director to you. He’s the guy who will help you sell their products. If you just listen to him, and do what he says, you’ll make $40K if you’re lazy, and $100K if you work 40 hours a week. And I’m totally serious. And anyone else who is interested in earning well better than average money can email me.

    Her morning treat.
Imagine waking up to a dog nozzle in your face no matter how many pillows you try to hide behind.

I just woke up from a dream that I was standing next to a field of cattle speaking to a cattle buyer, who’s truck was parked on the roadside and reeked of all that cows can be.

Turns out the cat is sick and shit in the bath tub.

  332. 332 | November 17, 2010 8:20 am

Hmmm. Not a lot of Mohammedan news out there; it’s like they’ve fallen off the radar. It’s a bit creepy, like a summer night when all of the crickets stop chirping at the same time……

They are plotting. They are always plotting. Maybe the election knocked them back a pace. They were all excited about watching us destroy ourselves, and now maybe we’ve put a stop to that.

Huh? Oh yeah…maybe we need a thread about investing/privitizing Social Security funds in the near future. I was playing with a spreadsheet last night and, based on even a low wage earner, an appreciation rate of 6%, and an inflation rate of 3.5% after retirement, it seems to work. Still checking my numbers.

I’m going to put up some more counterjihad threads. Their tools, the dhimmis, are doing the Muslims’ job for them. All they need to do is sit back and let it happen. :(
