@ PrincessNatasha:
The only difference I can see is intent. People can drink without the intent of becoming impaired. When someone lights up a joint, there is no intent other than to become impaired, it’s not something done to enhance a meal.
For those prone to alcoholism, absolutely any exposure is going to cause problems and those people are likely to wind up like the caller I referenced. Since many people have used pot as young adults and have not wound up like that caller, it is apparent that not all people who use it develop that kind of dependency upon the substance. For those who do however, there are studies that suggest long-term degradation of mental capability does result. Those stereotypical jokes about stoners are grounded in reality.
And The Bad News Bears lose again.

Obama, Haley go head to head
(…)
Haley’s exchange with Obama on the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste dump was less complicated.
“The taxpayers of South Carolina have paid $1.2 billion to [develop a plan] to send our nuclear waste to Yucca Mountain,” she said.
“I asked him if he would consider honoring the federal commitment and allow waste to go to Yucca Mountain. His answer was no.
“He went on to the fact that they feel like they had safety concerns. He was pretty adamant that was not an option that was on the table.”
Haley then made a direct demand.
“Then give us our money back,” she told Obama.
“He said that he would have [Energy] Secretary Chu call me.”

Amen!! I have seen the whole spectrum of “drug” users in my life. One of my friend’s father is a Nam vet, hard working mechanic. Had his own Mercedes repair shop for 20+ years, sold it and started an a/c installation and repair business. Smokes pot pretty regularly. Then there is a guy I used to be friends with. He is 26, lives off his parents, doesn’t work or go to school. Sits at home playing video games, watching tv and smokes like a chimney. Granted, I don’t cut his parents slack for enabling his behaviour, but his sisters both have degrees and work their butts off. It is up to the individual.

My experience though is less and less pot to make me high. Could have been brain changes, could have been placebo effect but it happened.
I had the opposite effect with street whites. I had to take more and more to get high. Drug users would be shocked at what I would take. being young and stupid it fucked my body up big time. I picked the habits up from nam vets just back from vietnam. It was the cool thing to do.
Drugs are the one thing in life I have seen destroy people on a regular basis. A drug dealer is at about the same level as a level III sex offender. Maybe a bit worse, cause I would put the college level drug dealer/student to death.

Proposition 19 went down in California last month, and that surprised me. The best argument I saw to legalize marijuana was to cripple the Mexican drug cartel. If one accepts that as a logical argument, then it follows that cocaine, meth and any other number of drugs should be legalized also. Enforcement is the way to deal with the drug cartels, not decriminalization.
Dr. Dean
OdellEdell had a local radio show a few years ago. He advocated for marijuana legalization, but warned about side effects, both physical and cultural. He also said that if he were to choose to use any “recreational” drug, including alcohol, that he’d choose heroin, as long as he was guaranteed a non-stop supply of it. Heroin is very addictive, but it metabolizes better than any other “recreational” drug.@ coldwarrior:

The trick is the dose. It’s easy to snarf down too many brownies. Cookies are easier over all.
One more Deftones and I’ll stop. A heavy one. It fits the theme of the discussion tonight. It is all about sex and drugs.

The Beatles brought a new sound. And they did it over and over and over. They were so heavily promoted and over produced that I got really tired of hearing them. A lot of great bands succeeded due to that backlash, especially the Stones.

@ Bagua:
Oh I didn’t eat a lot of them. I had a pretty small one both times in fact. Truth be told though, I was always a light weight. Which was good, because I spent most of my time around it selling. Not the proudest moments of my life, but I needed money. Working minimum wage wasn’t paying the bills. It did teach me about marketing and sales though, lol. In the end I am more than happy that I exited that scene. Most pot heads are mellow, but buying in bulk introduces you to some really shady people, and that ALWAYS lead to bad things.

Yeah, being an outlaw is a tough gig, and can have some unwanted consequences, often random.

Yes. A thin, watery, easily digested broth of the coolest music ever – blues, jazz and yes, even rockabilly, but retaining none of the soul or muscle of any of it. I just don’t get it.

Well if we must, get ready for the epic.

I never could get ahold of any. I tried on two seperate occasions. Once it fell through. The second time I was ripped off so bad it wasn’t funny. I really do enjoy the honest life though. I’m not constantly nervous, and I can be honest with people about who I am and what I am doing. I still work like horse, but it keeps me straight. My family is confused by my past choices of monetary gain. I just tell them that I am a Capitalist at heart, and since I had a market right in front of me, I took it up. Never sold anything else though. I could not bring myself to deal in the hard shit. I saw too many people ruin everything around themselves to get into that mess. I thank God that he gave me atleast that much sense.
Cripes, it sounds like a rehash of Joe Queenan’s “Balsamic Dreams” in here. And that is not good.
@ linoleumknife:
walk away is a good gene
@ Bagua:
LOL, true. It was a dirty scene. I knew everyday that I was dealing with the wrong crowd. God would throw everything in the world at me to tell me to get right, but I was too damn stubborn to listen. The one thing I do miss is the lack of taxes though. This year alone I have paid more than I had made in a year till I was 25. It is amazing to me that people aren’t ready to burn D.C. to the ground for their excess and abuses.
@ Macker:
I can’t stand Lennon. Imagine was the worst fuckin song EVER. Nothing but a communist wet dream. *spit*

Wow, thanks for letting me know.
@ coldwarrior:
Well, I was referring, of course, to the rather substantial portion of the book that Queenan devotes to lamenting the fact that popular sentiment enshrines crappy, obscure bands he doesn’t like rather than crappy, obscure bands he did like.
I had to read that book twice to fully grasp just how lame it was. I then threw it in the trash, something I don’t often do with books.
@ Bagua:
i’ll explain it later…nite!
@ coldwarrior:
I’ll look forward to it, goodnight.

Good morning everyone. I want my global warming back….
@ PaladinPhil:
Good morhing! It is another beautiful day in the reign of Emperor Barack Hussein I, Pasha of the United States and Defender of the
FaithUmmah! Yeah, we have snow, too. It kept me out of work yesterday, as the roads were bad. Today should be interesting. Every day in the reign of our dear Pasha is interesting…Well, I should get out there and shovel some white shit. In the meantime, look at what I did this weekend…
And back. Going to be a chilly walk to work this AM.
From Moochelle:
Michelle Obama today said that she sees childhood obesity as “a threat to national security.” This is in addition to her claim that (at the ceremony for the “Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act” cost $4.5B to taxpayers that will subsidize/regulate what children eat before school, at lunch, after school, during summer vacations) of deciding what American children should eat: “We can’t just leave it up to the parents</em>.” (from ‘I was anti-Obama before it was cool’ on Facebook) (emphasis mine)
Sorry Moochelle, but while making sure kids eat the right foods is admirable, it’s not the business of the GOVERNMENT. Stay the hell out of my lunchbox and stay the hell out of my kid’s lunchbox (if I had any). Stay away from my dinner table and stay away from my cereal bowl. Good God, is there NO part of my life that you bastards don’t want to control? Women, according to you, have the right to control their bodies and have abortions up until the 9th month. But by God if I want to eat things I like instead of organic foods, then I’m in desperate need of correction & control.
Top o’ da mornin’, all!

Morning MacDuff. I hate this time of year. Sunrise, when we see it, isn’t for another hour or so.

Yep the Obama Boom is an implosion, and everyone is playing 3 card monte to pay the bills.

A couple of years ago I built a 550 sf sunroom on the back of my house (including a glass roof) just to keep my sanity in the winter and it’s the best money I ever spent. Particularly during this time of year, I only go inside the house for essentials.

How is that multi-culturalism working out? Are UK Universities serving the same purpose as US prisons?
African Moondog wrote:
I think any university with a large MSA presence is having this happen. All you have to do is look at York University, Ryerson University here in Toronto. I am not sure about the University of Toronto, but I think the situation is pretty much the same there.
@ PaladinPhil:
Something horribly wrong is happening intertiary education. I suspect that they are “progressive” training camps designed to spew out narrow minded bigots.
@ African Moondog:
That doesn’t surprise me at all. Most university students I have met don’t seem to have the depth of knowledge of anything. I was talking to a student a couple of weeks ago and he had minimal knowledge of our municipal elections for 8 years. He also had a year of political science to boot.
The question is do we blame the teachers or the students?
