Biggie Smalls killed 14 years ago

Filed under Music, Open thread at March 10th, 2011 - 8:00 pm

Because of breaking news, this thread was moved from yesterday.

In my time as a DJ, I met many rappers who would go one to be famous. One I met was Biggie Smalls AKA Notorious BIG and who’s real name was Chris Wallace. I met him when I did a gig at a club in New York City back in 1994. This was when his first commercial single Juicy came out and it was starting to burn up the charts. Several months after that in late 1994, his first album Ready to Die came out. This album along with several that came out in 94/95 was the creative peak of Rap Music. Getting back to Biggie, he was down to earth and cool as hell. We ran into each other several times and even when he made it, he never forgot who I was and always said hello.

When I head he was killed on March 9th 1997 I was truly sad. I related with him very well as he came from a family of Jamaican immigrants. The few political conversation we had, I was under the impression he hated welfare, abortions and racism. He is now a legendary figure in the Hip Hop community and I feel honored to have met him.

Here are my favorite tracks from Biggie.

My favorite Biggie song.

RIP Christopher Wallace.

Call the Congress, demand they vote to de-fund Obama care when the vote comes next week on the continuing resolution.

Pelosi and the commie D’s put $190 Billion in the bill, he has the money to spend now unless we force them to stop it.

They voted to kill Obama care and now they have to back it up when it counts. It is our money.

Mark Levin has a phone shurge going on until the vote.

    1-202-224-3121

Call yours or any one of them. It is our right, it is our U.S. tax money and none of them should tell U.S. we the people can not call them.

    fight

I actually heard that Tupac was in Cuba. His aunt is hiding there. His Mom Afina Shakur was a Black Panther. Castro used to support them.

Notorious was good. When the music was for fun and dancing it was cool. Once rap became about killing and all that, then, not so much. Now it’s just repetitive and boring.

Tupac got his ass kiss in Rikers Island by the Latin Kings. In the 1960′s/70′s the Latin Kings were enemies of the Black Panthers. The Kings were Rightwing, the Panthers Marxists.I know becasue at the time I was one and my then Girlfriend’s cousin was one of the peeps that kicked him. After that Tupac joined forces with Suge Knights, who was a Blood.

This kind of material is completely inappropriate for children this young. What’s up with the left to heap this on little kids ? Trying to divert their attention from dolls and trucks and riding bikes and skipping rope>
    In other words: being children?

I aint trying to say VI is a hardcore rapper here, just that Suge gets his hands on these guys and they are basically screwed. He’s like a mobster. Now that I think about it, I believe he is in some kind of trouble. Just can’t remember what kind.

    Afeni Shakur

Tupac Shakur’s mother, Afeni Shakur activist, Black Panther, poet, actress, NY 21 political prisoner, addicted to freedom and liberation The Black Panther Party, life addicted to the assessment of Amerikkka’s idea of her: helpless Black woman without a clue to what life is/was about. Being born Black in the 1960′s-1970′s was a struggle for dignity and power. A time to challenge prejudice and edicts, sexism etc. Corporate and institutionalized deaths, her language is fierce and loving hard and soft her words are lullabies and martial songs. Her words, so untold full of secrets waiting to reveal themselves, Tupac and Afeni are two miracles! two individuals daring to live and create and love. Both cross color, class and gender. Afeni is indeed the miracle woman wonder. Afeni comes from a very closed world, from Lumberton, North Carolina. She moved to New York when she was in the sixth grade, she was 11 and lived in the Bronx. she went to the Performing Arts High School in Manhattan. She wanted to be an actress. When she was in her late teens she would go to Manny’s Bar on 169th St. in the Bronx. This guy use to come in there named Shaheed. At the time I was a greasy short haired little colored girl, skinny, with no breasts and never had no butt, she wasn’t the one men would look at but she was smart and had a nice smile. Shaheed introduced her to the lessons given by the Nation of Islam.

See that NOI link to the BP?

Friends, this afternoon our brave WI Republican legislature voted to bring some fiscal sanity back into Wisconsin. As a result some of them are currently under recall threat, including Gov. Walker. I doubt that there is any imediate danger to the Republican majority, however, the Obama and national union machines are declaring war against our duly elected legislators simply for DOING THEIR JOBS that they were elected to do. Unlike the yelloe coward 14 Democrat Senetors that fled to IL to keep the majority from doing its job. If any of you follow this situation enough, and can lend any financial support to our brave Republicans, still the majority, here in WI it would be great. We are at the center of the most historic battle for reigning in the abusive public sector union power, in the nation. The Obama administration has joined forces with the powerful union bosses against us, the lowly taxpayer. Understand this, I am a union member of over 30 years. There are many of us who think alike, but the forces against us are willing to do whatever it takes to quash the revolt over publiv union domination by the left.

In order to elevate Philistines to victim status, you must not only ignore the plight of West Papuans, Copts, Assyrians, South Sudanese, Baha’is Ahmadiyyah, Hazaras, North Koreans, Belarussians, Kashmiri Pandits, Tibetans, Igbo, Berbers, Roma, Akhdam, Ahwazi Arabs, Zoroastrians, Afro-Cubans, Tamils, Maronites, Greek Cypriots, ethnic Georgians in Abkhazia, ethnic Serbs in Kosovo, et al, you must consider these groups subhuman, thus unworthy of attention

ROTFLMAO… Oh hell no, I knew Kurt Cobain, well kind of in a passing sort of way. We met several times and partied a bit. I was playing in a group called St. James, we were a SoCal version of Grunge back then. We used to do a lot of underground rave/gang-banger parties, same circuit as Nirvana.

Palestine (in Latin) is derived from the Greek word Philistine (referring to Cretan colonists of antiquity in what is now “The Gaza Strip”), derived from the Hebrew word Pleshtim (meaning INVADER).

Back in the old days, before a band got signed they started out on the Bar circuit doing covers then once they got a name they moved to the private party circuit, then moved up to the club circuit, then got signed.

A lot of bands crossed paths on the private party circuit.

So Friday I went out of town to go see my dad. I flew down to Burbank, CA, my mom picked me up and we drove up to Santa Maria/Orcutt, CA where my dad lives. We stayed up there Friday, Saturday, so I got to visit with my dad Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday morning before heading back to Southern Cal. He was really glad I came to visit (for those of you who may remember, dad was diagnosed about 6 weeks ago with multiple myeloma). He’s doing OK and they caught it early enough and he is responding well to treatment and he has a good chance of going into remission. He was glad to see me and my mom. He was sad when I left and said he thought he might never see me again, but I told him he would and feel bad that he thinks that, so I am going to make an effort to get back down there in about 3 months.

Monday night I got to see Savage and we had dinner together and hung out (first time I’ve seen him in 11 months!), so that was cool. got to hang with my mom the whole time which was great, and Tuesday night I was headed back to rainy Seattle. It was nice to get a little sunshine in CA…

Well I feel better now that I’ve actually gotten to see my dad and see for myself how his girlfriend and her son are taking care of them (they are genuinely trying their best to take care of him) and see for myself how he is doing. And I always love spending time with my mom. I got to see my aunt, etc. It’s always great to go home. My mom always spoils me :)

Yes, apparently they caught the cancer in it’s early stages. He’s seen several doctors and has one he really likes. His blood tests are coming back and his numbers are going the right direction, so there is a lot of hope. Very promising.
