The United States – Israel alliance has been beneficial to both nations

Many leftists and paleocon lunatics like to make as if the U.S. – Israel alliance has been a one-way street. Ambassador Michael Oren and Charles Johnson’s favorite television personality Glenn Beck, disabuse us of that notion.

by Debra Kamin

When a Tuscon-based SWAT team arrived on the scene of the shooting of US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords on January 8 and applied a coagulating bandage to her gushing head, the US-Israel alliance was in play, Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Michael Oren has said.

In a nearly 5,000-word article in the May/June issue of Foreign Policy, Oren laid out a multi-tiered defense of the relationship between Israel and America, answering the critics who assail America’s annual $3 billion in military aid and contending that the United States perhaps needs Israel even more than Israel needs the United States.

The coagulating bandage, Oren pointed out, was created by a Jerusalem start-up company and has been distributed free of charge to nearly one million US soldiers. Other American troops can thank a kibbutz-based business for the life-saving armor on their military vehicles, and consumers using USB flash drives, ingestible microcameras, drip irrigation and portable MRI machines should also give a nod to their Israeli inventors.

“At a time when American companies are outsourcing to Asia, Israel is outsourcing to the United States,” Oren wrote, noting that “tens of thousands of Americans are employed by Teva, the world’s leading generic-drug producer, and by dozens of Israeli high-tech, textile, and defense plants throughout the United States.” And while three US -Israel foundations have generated “myriad US jobs,” Oren argued, it is also crucial to remember that of that $3 billion in military aid – which, he pointed out, is equivalent to roughly half of what the US spends to run one Zumalt-class Navy destroyer – $2.25 billion is spent in America, creating, maintaining and protecting jobs for American workers.

“In return for its aid to Israel,” Oren asserted, “the United States receives not only an armed but an innovative ally, enhancing America’s military edge. That contribution is real and requires no lobbyists to fabricate it.”

[....]
In the Foreign Policy essay, the ambassador said the American-Israeli alliance goes beyond the strategic to encompass issues of humanitarian, commercial and scientific concern. At the crux of the matter, he said, is that the United States and American share crucial, unbreakable basic values.

In a different venue and with a slightly more bombastic tone, conservative talk show and radio host Glenn Beck recently hosted several Fox News specials in support of Israel.

In the first special, which aired in the United States on March 30, Beck stared straight into the camera and said, “The world is being lead to water that Israel is the evil one and it’s about to drink. Don’t drink the water!”

[...]

On April 15, Beck appeared in another full-length special entitled “Why the US Must Stand With Israel.”

Like Oren, Beck focused on the importance of the Israel-US relationship and reminded viewers that the friendship between the two countries is in both nations’ best interest, not just Israel’s.

Oren closed his Foreign Policy piece with this very idea. “[The] US-Israel relationship [is] of incalculable value to the United States, far outweighing any price.” he wrote. “Israel may be one of a handful of countries that fully fits the definition of ally, but its willingness to support the United States unwaveringly makes it the partner par excellence, America’s ultimate ally.”

Florida Senate hopeful looking to follow Marco Rubio’s lead

He’s a young, little-known former state lawmaker who is steadily piling up praise from the chattering class as the most authentic conservative candidate in the race for Florida’s Senate seat.

Adam Hasner announced his candidacy on Mark Levin’s nationally syndicated radio show Monday night, but even in this nascent stage of his campaign, there is ample evidence that his path is predicated on replicating the success of Sen. Marco Rubio.

It’s a high bar for the 41-year-old Boca Raton attorney. His top aides, ever mindful of the risk of heightened expectations, bristle at the comparison to the tea party’s breakout superstar.

But the parallels are difficult to ignore and aren’t likely to fade as his quest to capture the GOP nomination and unseat second-term Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson moves ahead.

Despite Rubio’s unfortunate foreign policy mistakes, I think he is a good addition to the Senate. This guy might make another.

things that make you go hmmmmm…..(tm)

What Next – the Potomac River running red with blood?

In the Rose Garden, rodents attend Obama speeches. In the East Room, flies utilize the President’s upper lip as a landing strip. Last Memorial Day Barack chose the Windy City over traditional ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery. As the President prepared to speak at Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois:

Thunderstorms had rolled in …prompting the Secret Service to pull the president from the ceremony amid fear for his safety. Obama … told the guests… that he would wait … to see if the storm would pass…it quickly worsened, turning into gusty winds and rain with frequent lightning and thunder, and the White House cancelled Obama’s appearance at the ceremony.

Adding to the ever-growing list of Biblical manifestations occurring in the President’s vicinity, according to an observer, “A spectacular downpour started as the lightning built, with no preliminary drops; one moment it was dry, the next there was a gushing, blowing, massive water dump.

One can’t help but wonder how the President interprets the natural world speaking to him, or what he perceives that message to be. Based on the creative delivery style, it’s likely that Barack Obama would rather ignore the Scripture where Jesus said: “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven,” especially since a lightning bolt fell from heaven straight into the White House.

One cup a day is all it take to suffer from withdrawals from caffeine. Yea one cup a day is all I drink these days either, and if I break that morning coffee cycle, it takes about 2 or 3 days before the headaches start, but they go away after about 4 or 5 days without coffee.

The worst terrorist action before 9/11 was the bombing of Air India Flight 182 by Canadian Sikhs. Yes they are generally peaceful, just watch out when they aren’t though.

Sikhs were persecuted by the Mughals for centuries. There were attempts to carve out a separate Sikh nation-state, Khalistan, from parts of Pakistan and India.

Sorry, part of my post was cut off. The Air India Flight 182 bombing was part of the Free Khalistan movement. Difference between the Sikhs in this instance and the Muslimeen is that the Sikhs do not desire to subjugate the entire world as the Muslimeen do.

Stalin was more successful than Hitler. He held on to power for many decades. He built and ran an Empire akin to the Russian Empire before 1917. In addition, he had no delusions of some bogus Master-Race like Hitler had. Hell, he even abandoned all the Communism hokey-pokey as soon as he came to power. Sure, he kept the rhetoric and the symbols, but that was done out of convenience– no time to waste designing all the new crap, which is irrelevant, anyway. Stalin was simply an emperor. If you look at history of royalty in Europe and even Asia, he was really not that much different from many monarchs, and not as bad as some.

Sadly we are chained to the insane concept of “proportionate response”. The concept of “proportionate response” was invented by cowards who were afraid of loosing a conflict because their opponent might be stronger than them. You either fight to win, or you fight to loose, their is no legitimate strategy of fighting to a stalemate. Fight to a stalemate is only a legitimate strategy when you know victory is utterly impossible. i.e in other words, you are fighting to loose.

And some of the radicals engage in terrorism in support of their goal, mostly directed against India. They blew up an Air India flight some years ago, killing all aboard. A bomb, planted on another flight at the same time, blew up up in Narita airport in Japan, killing some baggage handlers. The (then-Liberal) government of Canada mostly botched the investigation, but at least one of the perps was jailed, and others never found.

OK you are right, he only killed between 40 and 60 million Soviet citizens.

He immediately closed all churches and had them demolished, he had all high-ranking officers shot again, and he made security tighter than before. He ordered a random list of 100 people to be made every day, and the first 40 of them were to be killed. If number 37 wasn’t there, number 41 got it, as long as 40 were eliminated every day. He wiped out a total of 60 million people in this time period (one third of present day Russia, or one quarter of the current population of the US). And with this began a legacy that would last another 10 years.

A word of advice. Don’t do what the right did up here in Canada in the late 80′s with the split of the Reform Party and the Progressive Conservatives. The split in the vote for the right gave the Liberal Party of Canada guaranteed majority governments for over 10 years until they got their acts together and rejoined under the Reform leadership for our current Conservative Party. In fact we are still dealing with that issue because the Conservatives have never been able to pull off a Majority government yet. And the way things are going in the rundown to the up coming federal election they may still not have enough seats for that elusive majority.
