On last night’s OOT, Guggi triggered a memory of my own favorite party, and I posted this:
The best party I attended was in Amarillo Texas. Two dozen guys from around the country showed up for a 3-day foosball tournament. Ohio, Texas, Montana and a couple of other states were represented. The entry fee covered food, beer, rock and roll, and trophies. Seven kegs rolled that weekend.
Foosball teams were chosen from a hat, and the games were set up like a pool. First place went to Danny Rat and the Saint; 2nd went to brothers Dog & Weasel; Rockin’ Roland and I pulled in at 3rd place.
All us trophy winners came from the same high school, having played in the same basement. Fun times.
Thank God we didn’t have the internet. =)
As for the foos table above, that would make for a never-ending game unless you had several balls zipping around at the same time. And speaking of balls, it’s time for The Overnight Open Thread.

Now that’s the Foosball table from Hell…
DAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMN
@ Da_Beerfreak:
I must admit, I never had enough eye-hand coordination to play on a regular foozball table. So, I will just watch the games tonight.
If that is not some kind of PhotoShop, the idiot who built that needs to be SEAL Team 6′s next target!

@ AZOlddog:
It’s real. I think it was built for a commercial advert.
@ Bunk X:
It sure seems real – I studied the photo to see if I could find a repeating pattern.
Strange table!

@ doriangrey:
All the practice I had in HiSkool paid for my games and beer in the college bars. I could take on two players by myself without much trouble.

I never really was able to connect with the punk music mentality, their songs just were not well written or produced, they were more about social statements and emotional expressions that I simply could not relate to.
I was raised by enlisted military people during the Vietnam war. I was never a part of the disaffected middle class overwhelmed by angst. My parents raised 5 kids on a second class enlisted sailors salary.
We may not have been dirt poor, but we weren’t middle class by any stretch of the imagination either. I saw a lot of violence growing up, but at the same time knew that compared to people living in the places that my dad or my neighbors were fighting we had it damned good.

the artist’s explanation: “i wanted to do some work with ink so i did 8D, i got majorly inspired by some great manga artists and i totally wanted to try it.
ink on paper with charcoal in the back (and a little help of photoshop to correct the colours and stuff xD )”

I was in Rome last year in January and we had ridden a tour bus up to Assisi (beautiful place, St. Francis, namesake of San Francisco). Afterward we were killing time in a little bar eatery that had a foosball table waiting for the bus. I was playing foosball with my then 10 yr old daughters and family. 3 rather robust looking local Italian stallion denizens came in and after awhile it was obvious they were waiting for us to get off the foosball table. They came up and suggested we play together. At first I thought things might get ugly. Instead I kicked their butts at foosball and they were backslapping fellows who ended up shaking our hands vigorously and wishing us well as we jogged off to catch the bus. I have been to Europe 3 times now and those are the nicest people. Everywhere. Even the French

How it ended up there, I have no idea. It’s actually on the campus of Norwich University.
Speaking of which, I have to wonder how many of the students there ever saw the place in winter before they decided to go there. I can’t imagine spending 4 years in middle-of-nowhere, Vermont, with sub-zero temperatures, just to get a Reserve commission.
VMI is much warmer…
@ Prebanned:
Yeah and that somebody was probably me! It’s just as a family man you find yourself in situations where you’re uncertain of people’s intentions and you need to be the protector, even if that means buying a little time so the fam can get out. If they’re very young you’re not that concerned because you figure they don’t know everthing I know. And if push comes to shove I’ll push harder. These dudes, I could not have taken. They were mid thirties, workiing class, physical dudes. If they’d wanted to be jerks they could’ve been. Instead they were nice, playful fellows with no ax to grind. Just lookin’ for a good foosball challenge. We all had a blast.

) had been planning to add same-sex marriages to its service to the country at the end of DADT despite numerous state constitutions and public votes afgainst such an “institution”. I say had because after great public outcry, they have reversed this decision. They say it is suspended pending further legal review. As you know, I am against using the Military as an engine for social experimentation, let alone “social justice”. The decision to have same-saex marriages, in contravention of US law, was outrageous. Just more of the type of public “morality” that the Left wants to force down our throats. I am glad to see that this decision did not stand. The other news is there’s not much other news. The Mississippi River is flooding, but it does that every ten or 15 years. It isn’t really a surprise. What is a surprise is that people rebuild on the exact same flood plain where they get flooded out. Your stubborness does not impress the River. And in Paki-land they are mad at us for snuffing Osama. Hate that for them. We need to end our subsidy of that corrupt regime for their giving safe-harbor to the world’s most infamous terrorist. What’s up with that? Did they think we wouldn’t find out? Or do they just think they’ve got us punked, and we’d just roll over and take it? Probably the latter, and it seems like it was a close call. Obama says it was a 55-45% decision. He could have almost flipped a coin. Decisive leadership that is not.
