The Vancouver Canucks are like the Chicago Cubs of hockey. They always come close to winning the Cup, but never quite pull it off. To be honest, I don’t follow the NHA, let alone professional sports. But I saw these guys, and I had no idea that they had earned recobanition as a National Treasure of Canada.
Here’s another National Treasure of Canada -- The Overnight Open Thread!

just got home from work and have not had time to surf yet
ok, well looking around
think I’ll start with this
Palestinian Facebook Group Urges Rushing Israel’s Borders Tomorrow
They must feel even more emboldened after Obama just offered them Jerusalem on a platter.
Tomorrow they want to do it again.
Pro-Palestinian activists have formed a new Facebook group calling for mass marches on Israel’s borders this coming Friday.
The group – “Third Palestinian Intifada” – urges Arab activists in neighboring countries to storm Israel’s borders in reaction to the recent “Nakba Day” events and ensuing casualties.
Several Facebook groups urge a third mass popular uprising against Israel, and one of them sports a “Friday of response” page, bearing the date May 20. The page, which currently has 100,000 “Like’s”, does not however give any details on how or exactly when these marches should take place.
@ rain of lead:
How much do you want to bet that the asshats behind it are in London, or Detroit?
@ lobo91:
no bet
The fierce “digital mujahadeen”…
Read something earlier that Israel is already only what…eight miles wide? They want to push them to five miles wide. Then what? 4? 3? 2? You get the idea.
@ lobo91:
Is that like a keyboard warrior? That was great. I am gonna have to use that on facebook. lol
Well, I never knew where the Green Men started. There was a guy dressed like that at last years Fremont Summer Solstice Parade. He was mixed in with the naked bike riders…

@ rain of lead:
I forgot about that.
I guess the whole job thing doesn’t matter, then…
@ rain of lead:
I swear I giggled at the thought of that today. I was like…So I don’t have to see the liver specialist Monday? Cool! Hahahahaha But for now I am well and truly fucked. They cant take out the gall bladder…I WILL bleed to death due to the liver damage. Gonna have to see how to handle the blood disorder that caused the liver damage now. But what else can I do..shit happens. Hanging in there though.
I never watch hockey.
Humh??? A new sport to follow, The green men make it seem interesting enough.
@ NoThreat2U:
Whoa! I missed something somewhere. What’s going on? I am behind on your whole thing. Why can’t they remove your gall bladder? How bad of liver damage do you have? What caused it? Holy crap woman!
just found this bit of good news
Eye-for-an-eye filibuster stops Democratic nominee
If there’s one place where what goes around comes around, it’s the United States Senate. Goodwin Liu, the Berkeley law professor nominated by President Obama to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, is the latest to learn that lesson.
Liu’s nomination was blocked by a Republican filibuster Thursday — the first successful filibuster against a judicial nominee since Democrats stopped all 10 of George W. Bush’s appeals court nominees from 2003 to 2005. Although no one back then could have predicted that today’s fight would be about Liu, everyone knew it was going to happen sometime. Once Democrats crossed the line to filibuster those Bush nominees, you could bet Republicans would strike back. And now they have.
@ NoThreat2U:
I guess a liver transplant is not in the picture
@ savages_girl:
I have a bad gall bladder. After more testing and scans, they found out that my liver is bad due to a blood disorder. The blood disorder damages the liver. Now they cant take out the gall bladder because I will bleed to death. Now, I just have to wait for the GB to shrivel up and shrink, and get the blood disorder under control…which is by monthly blood lettings.
@ rain of lead:
It MAY happen. If this specialist can get the blood disorder dealt with and it stops the damage I can live longer. If not, I will need a new one.
@ NoThreat2U:
no black humor here
I post this with tears in my eyes
this is now your offical theme song
@ NoThreat2U:
Wow, that is scary. I’m so sorry to hear that. I can’t believe that they can’t remove the gall bladder. I always thought that was a relatively safe surgery (I had mine out a couple of years ago). I guess in a sense it’s good they did further testing to find out about your blood condition so they didn’t just yank out your gall bladder and then have major issues. Wow, I’m really sorry girl. Is there anything we can do for you to help keep your spirits up?
Now I am crying. lol I will be OK. I aint ready to go yet. No need to cry for me…none of us will live forever. I’m good, really I am. I’m angry and sad but shit happens. Please dont cry for me. I have plenty of time to come down there and BBQ with you
Plus I am taking a Marine to my next doc appt…that oughtta scare my liver. lol lol
Take Our Poll: Do You Agree With the President on Israel?

@ rain of lead:

@ NoThreat2U:

@ rain of lead:
He’s never that!
NoThreat2U wrote:
They apparently got snow in Denver today. We just got more rain here.
But when the clouds cleared this afternoon, I saw fresh snow on Pikes Peak. It tends to be about 30 degrees colder up on top than it is here.
@ lobo91:
Sounds like yinz get a little bit of everything kinda like we do here.
Had virus software go off earlier that screamed
Trojan-BNK.Win32.keylogger.gen and shut down FireFox,
ruined some links as well. Hopefully I nailed it in time before it released an eggsac of malware. As a result, I had to forgo editing this post, and Rodan put it up on my behalf.

Mrs. Federalist had some very serious side effects from gall bladder surgery (the laperoscopic kind) several years ago. She became violently ill from the pain killers prescribed (vicodin type) so asked if she could use aspirin instead. The nurse said that would be fine. Apparently the combination of being ill from the pain killers and the aspirin caused lots of internal bleeding. She came very close to needing a transfusion. The purple stomach was kind of interesting though.
@ NoThreat2U:
You might want to ask 1389AD about that. It sounds kind of romantic at exciting but in reality… could be exciting… the traveling around thing. I’m kind of a homebody. Like coming home to the cats and fish and Mr Tortoise.
Of course, if you DO decide to go rumbling about the country in an RV, come visit me in WA!
@ AZfederalist:
YIKES! Glad she’s OK. I guess I’m lucky my surgery went well, although the doctor said my gall bladder “looked like a sewer”…
@ lobo91:
I dont want to hear that. If I gotta hang in there and hope for the best, you do too. Deal?
@ AZfederalist:
I wouldn’t have been a candidate for the laproscopic surgery anyway because my gall bladder is enlarged. Hence, the need for a full incision which would have cause the excessive bleeding. I cant take pain pills either, they make me sick, but aspirin after surgery is never a good idea.
@ savages_girl:
I will come and see you!! You got good fishing waters up there!
savages_girl wrote:
This was about 15 years ago. When the doctor saw her, he said, “Wow, I’ve done hundreds of these operations and I’ve never seen anything like this!”. Yeah, that made her feel good.

Full-timing in an RV isn’t necessarily an easy way to live – though if you know what you’re doing, it is fairly inexpensive. The RV lets me go wherever the work is (which currently isn’t much, but one can hope).
Maintaining and operating an RV is like maintaining a truck/bus and maintaining a small house, but the mechanical details are quite different from maintaining a stationary home. If you want to do that, I would suggest reading up on it, talking to other RVers, looking at a lot of RVs at a dealer or an RV show, and renting an RV for a road trip or two before you consider buying one for yourself.

Aspirin and NSAIDs are a no-no for anybody with bleeding problems. These days, they don’t prescribe them before or after surgery, AFAIK.
Vicodin contains codeine and acetaminophen. Acetaminophen does not cause bleeding, but too much of it can cause or aggravate liver damage. Incidentally, acetaminophen is violently toxic to cats.
@ NoThreat2U:
Damn NT2U. Here I am bitching about a computer virus and I come back to read this. You still have a chance to kick its ass, right?

Islands in the stream: The extraordinary homemade dams holding back the Mississippi as desperate residents try to save their homes
We’ve all undertaken home improvements but these residents in flood-stricken Mississippi have had to embark on major construction projects just to protect their houses and livelihoods.
These homes in Vicksburg are all situated along the Yazoo River, a tributary of the overflowing Mississippi River, and their owners have surrounded themselves with tons of earth and sand.
With questions over whether the main levees that protect the area from floods would hold, these farmers took no chances and have so far saved their homes and crops from destruction.
