Just wondering out loud…

It would be interesting to know if the Saudis have any control on what goes on in the US arm of News Corp/Fox News.

LONDON, July 14 (Reuters) – A major News Corp shareholder said on Thursday that News International Chief Executive Rebekah Brooks should quit because of a telephone hacking scandal that has engulfed the company.

“For sure she has to go, you bet she has to go,” Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal told the BBC’s Newsnight programme.

The scandal has piled pressure on Brooks, who has not resigned despite a call from former friend Prime Minister David Cameron and other politicians to do so.

“Ethics to me is very important, definitely. I will not tolerate to deal with a company that has a lady or a man that has any sliver of doubt on her or his integrity,” Alwaleed said.

Alwaleed says his Kingdom Holding is the second biggest shareholder in News Corp and controls seven percent of the votes.

Can you point to any actual pro-Saudi or pro-Muslim bias in stories from Fox?

Many Fox employees, from video enginneers to on-air personalities are Christian. Have any come forward with accusations of bias? The way former CBS news-room executive Bernard Goldberg did.

Rupert Murdock controls 47% of News Corp stock and is purchasing another 12% right now giving him 59% of the 798.52 million outstanding shares. That 7% the Saudi’s own give them the right to show up at stockholder meetings, and that’s about it. All talk and bluster and no action.

London, February 23, 2010. News Corporation today announced that it has reached an agreement to buy a 9.09% stake in Rotana Group, the Middle East media group. Under the terms of the agreement, News Corporation will acquire newly-issued shares in Rotana for $70 million. The company has an option to increase its stake to 18.18% in the 18 months following completion. Rotana, which is owned by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, operates one of the largest TV networks and ad sales operations in the region and owns the largest Arabic film library. Additionally, it has built the leading record label in the Middle East, managing many of the most popular artists in the region and controlling the biggest Arabic music catalogue. Riba (usury), Haram in the Dar Al-Islam, is Halal in the Dar Al-Harb. That’s why the Saudis can own stock in these corporations outside of the Dar Al-Islam…

    @ doriangrey:
True. I have no problem with that, as far as it goes.

But there are limits to everything.

Problem is, if the corporation is in the business of providing news coverage, they have a responsibility not to become conduits of propaganda from foreign enemies. The MSM has failed in that regard, and in the case of the NYT, their failure is many decades old.

    @ doriangrey:

Is it wrong for me to wish Rupert Murdoch can buy the A-rabs out?

Answering my own question: Fox did take Glenn Beck off the air. Glenn is a friend of Israel and a foe of the Islamic terrorists.
