I took a History of Civilization class in the late 70s. Couldn’t choose the time period, so I ended up with a black teacher who assigned three books to read. All three ran on the theme that Jesus was black.

There was a Bible I saw somewhere that had pretty much every prominent figure from Scripture as black. Jesus, Moses, Abraham, maybe even Paul, although I won’t swear to that one.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe Christ had blond hair & blue eyes, but I also don’t believe he was ‘black’ either. Probably swarthy skinned with brown eyes & hair.

The midterms were an essay test about the books (that I’d read just days before). My essay came back with a snarky comment that I hadn’t read them. I was the last white guy to drop the class.

There is some truth to that as the people usually concerned about ending slavery in Africa and other parts of the world are white and not black.
