Mitt Romney calls for automatic Minimum wage increases

If there is any doubt Romney is a Progressive Republican, his stance on the minimum wage should end it. Mitt Romney supports tying the minimum wage to inflation. Romney wants yearly automatic increases. This will hurt many small business who will not be able to afford the costs. This also will reduce the number of entry level positions, that young people need to enter the job market.

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney renewed his support Wednesday for automatic increases in the federal minimum wage to keep pace with inflation, a position sharply at odds with traditional GOP business allies, conservatives and the party’s senior lawmakers.

“I haven’t changed my thoughts on that,” the former Massachusetts governor told reporters aboard his chartered campaign plane, referring to a stand he has held for a decade.

He did not say if he would ask Congress to approve the change if he wins the White House this fall.

Not even Obama has called for this. Mitt Romney is advocating a living wage. That would be an economic disaster. Clearly, Romney is a Progressive.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!

There’s a reason economics is no longer taught in the government schools…

Any thoughts on proposals for a ‘negative income tax’?

    @ mfhorn:

Don’t we essentially have that in the form of the “Earned” Income Tax Credit? It is redistribution of wealth, of course. Taking mostly from the Middle class to give to the working poor in the name of “fairness”. Legalized theft, I call it.

All credible research has come to the same conclusion: raising the minimum wage hurts the poor. It takes away jobs, keeps people on welfare, and encourages high-school students to drop out.

    @ Iron Fist:

I’m not sure, but I think you’re right. Milton Friedman included it as part of his flat tax proposal.

Our income tax system takes money only those of us who are productive (produce things of value). Since it penalizes production, we get less.

Our progressive income tax system — that higher incomes get taxed at higher percentages than lower incomes — means that the most productive people get penalized the most for their success.

So we get less production, companies are forced to outsource jobs overseas, poor people have an incentive not to work, rich people have an incentive not to produce (because it will just get stolen from them), …. (the list reasons why income tax is bad goes on and on).

I figure when inflation hits 85% it won’t matter a bit what minimum wage is.
Romney is seeking to manage the decline, we need a real change.

It’s clear to anyone paying attention that Romney has no intention of going down a conservative road.

    Just not gonna happen.

He’ll probably take a TPer for a running mate, if any will accept.

I wonder what Romney supporters like Rubio and Haley think about this.

Do we have a Tea Party woodshed yet?

    If not, we should.

Unclassifiable calls for automatic decrease of Romney’s delegates to zero.

There are just some things that should get you kicked out. Why Romneycare did not do that is beyond me?
