Trump Endorses Romney

Inserting himself back into the presidential race, Donald Trump managed on Wednesday night and Thursday morning to get the nation’s major news organizations in a tangle about whether he will be endorsing Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich during a Thursday afternoon appearance in Las Vegas.

Just before 2 p.m. ET on Thursday, Trump confirmed that the endorsement will in fact go to Romney in a mini-news conference two hours before he is set to formally appear with the candidate.

As reporters knocked over chairs to get to the real estate magnate/reality star, Trump said he’d decided to back Romney because he liked his positions on China and OPEC. Reminded that he had not always said nice things about the ex-governor, Trump replied, “I didn’t know him then.”

Asked if this means his own White House aspirations are now over, Trump said unequivocally that he will not run as an independent or third party candidate in the fall if Romney is the nominee.

“Absolutely not,” he vowed.  He then turned and walked away. “See you in a few hours,” he said.

Yahoo News reporter Holly Bailey informs us from the trail that Romney is set to appear with Trump at around 12:15 p.m. local time. The former Massachusetts governor has not always been so eager for a photo op with Trump. When Romney, along with the other 2012 contenders, trekked to New York last year to woo Trump, the candidate snuck in and out of a side entrance and refused to be photographed with the mogul. Romney also refused Trump’s offer to join him for a Trump-moderated Iowa debate in December, saying his campaign schedule was too busy. Gingrich, on the other hand, had agreed to attend.

Almost all of the uber-wealthy seem to be behind Mittens.

No class warfare – just an observation.

I think it’s because they all have a vested interest in the status quo (more or less).

One ultra-rich guy endorses another ultra-rich guy. Of course, does anyone think this endorsement will mean anything to anyone other the Romney and Trump’s ego and air of self-importance? Me neither.

    @ Bob in Breckenridge:

i think its just this simple: why buy off yet another group of politicians when the ones you already have bought will do just fine…so support the status quo, its cheaper.

    A doctor from France says:
“In France , the medicine is so advanced that we
cut off a man’s testicles; we put them into another
man, and in 6 weeks he is looking for work.”

    The German doctor comments:
“That’s nothing, in Germany we take part of the
brain out of a person; we put it into another person’s
head, and in 4 weeks he is looking for work.”

    A Russian doctor says:
“That’s nothing either. In Russia we take out half of
the heart from a person; we put it into another
person’s chest, and in 2 weeks he is looking
    for work.”

    The U.S. doctor answers immediately:
“That’s nothing my colleagues, you are way behind
us….in the USA , about 2 years ago, we grabbed
a person from Kenya with no brains, no heart, and
no balls….we made him President of the United
States, and now……. the whole damn country is
    looking for work.

Trump just jumped the bandwagon as did John Bolton.

Romney doesn’t have this in the bag until there is a Rodan 4 Romney car bumper sticker aride.

If Romney is nomnom’d, he should VP Gingrich and put Ron Paul in charge of the drug war or the foreign office.

Did you see his facial expressions on Fox when Greta was interviewing him? He sure doesn’t look happy.

I wonder whether Mitt Romney is blackmailing him. “He’s a tough man and a smart man and that’s what we need in this country.” More like he’s a tough man who might get in power and take Trump’s toys away.

He thinks he still has support from the Tea Party and the Christian Coalition. If he ever had that, he’s pissed it all away by now.

Says Mitt is a “warm, terrific guy”? Warm?

    Words fail me.

All Trump did was give the MSM an excuse to run away from Eric Holder’s Fast & Furious grilling.

    @ 1389AD:
The look on Trump’s face kind of gives it away. Sounds like he is tired of the “will you run, Trump?” routine and figures that if he endorses the guy who is headed for coronation, the politics thing will go away and he can go back to making money. Trump seems to lack conviction or a coherent argument in favor of Mittens Flip-Flop.

    @ CzechRebel:

I see it slightly different. Trump is a great joiner inner. He wants to seem relevant for whatever reason, probably because he sees greater star power in being seen that way. Once it looked like Romney was firmly in the lead, he just joins in to claim that it was his meaningless endorsement that put it over the top for Romney. Romney said stuff today that I hold to be unforgivable for any one claiming to be a Conservative. This says more about Trump than it does Romney.
