Just when you think it is safe to start liking Rick Santorum

he runs his stupid theocratic  mouth about contraception and out of wedlock sex. This loser needs to find a real world job.

by Gatordoug

Just when I start to think that I can overlook his over the top Social Conservatism. Just when I start to think that maybe he has realized that government needs to stay OUT of American’s sex lives, he goes THERE!

I don’t care if it’s in the Bible, I don’t care if you can point to all sorts of studies showing how it leads to bad economic outcomes or even health problems. People will not vote for Rick Santorum once they see things like this:

(Warning DKos link)

One of the things I will talk about that no president has talked about before is I think the dangers of contraception in this country, the whole sexual libertine idea … Many in the Christian faith have said, “Well, that’s okay … contraception’s okay.”

It’s not okay because it’s a license to do things in the sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. They’re supposed to be within marriage, for purposes that are, yes, conjugal … but also procreative. That’s the perfect way that a sexual union should happen. We take any part of that out, we diminish the act. And if you can take one part out that’s not for purposes of procreation, that’s not one of the reasons, then you diminish this very special bond between men and women, so why can’t you take other parts of that out? And all of a sudden, it becomes deconstructed to the point where it’s simply pleasure. And that’s certainly a part of it—and it’s an important part of it, don’t get me wrong—but there’s a lot of things we do for pleasure, and this is special, and it needs to be seen as special.

Again, I know most presidents don’t talk about those things, and maybe people don’t want us to talk about those things, but I think it’s important that you are who you are. I’m not running for preacher. I’m not running for pastor, but these are important public policy issues.

Drew seems to agree with me, or maybe I agree with him, anyway, great minds agree that Santorum will lose to Obama if he keeps that up.

Also, one more point that folks like Santorum overlook. What if someone IS married, but in their forties, and simply feels like they are too old to have kids? Should they NOT use contraception? Not have sex? Is THAT sex somehow, “diminished”? Good grief Santorum!

So he’s against unmarried people having sex. I bet when he was banging chicks before he got married.

    Santorum is an idiot.

I can’t believe he thinks this will be a winning issue. Nice way to attack Younger and Single voters.

Santorum says he supports birth control for the public but personally doesn’t believe it is good.

I happen to agree with him. Birth control doesn’t hurt a man because he wouldn’t take it. Birth control for women puts them in a constant state of pregnancy or rather fakes into pregnancy without the fertilization thus stopping fertilization

  11. The Osprey
    12 | February 13, 2012 7:30 pm

NO, SANTORUM IS NOT COMING FOR YOUR BIRTH CONTROL.

Jeez o’ Pete people. For crying out loud, the left said the same sort of nonsense about Reagan and abortion back in the 80′s.

A little research, however, quickly uncovers Santorum’s true position:
Those remarks have been misinterpreted, he said. “I was asked if I believed in it, and I said, ‘No, I’m a Catholic, and I don’t.’ I don’t want the government to fund it through Planned Parenthood, but that’s different than wanting to ban it; the idea I’m coming after your birth control is absurd. I was making a statement about my moral beliefs, but I won’t impose them on anyone else in this case. I don’t think the government should be involved in that. People are free to make their own decisions.’’
This was a controversy when Salon wrote an article back on January 4. The controversy was resolved two days later by the Washington Post. There’s nothing more to see here, folks.

I will say that before I checked the provenance of the quote, I had the same opinion as Drew – Santorum was dead to me. But you never read a Daily Kos article like Drew did and take it as a definitive source.
    Never.

Yeah, I guess that’s why Reagan lost that 48 state landslide to Walter Mondale, because he couldn’t keep his mouth shut about Roe vs. Wade.

Reagan spoke out against abortion not just once, but many times, as a candidate and as President.

Reagan’s divorce was at his wife’s request, not his.

Now, just MHO, but I think abortion needs to be left up to the states. Under no circumstances do I think government should pay for abortion OR contraceptives. I don’t think we need laws criminalizing homosexual behavior, even though I don’t think it’s a ‘normal’ or ‘healthy’ lifestyle. We also, as I’ve said before, shouldn’t be out there celebrating abortion or homosexuality, as the left seems to think we should.

    @ mfhorn:

I draw the line when teh gheys get in the faces of straight people with “We’re Queer! We’re here! Get used to it!”
Allow me to share once again what happens to communities like that:

The Hybrid arched its back as if in total ecstasy. One moment the base ship was embedded in the mountain complex overlooking the ancient fortress…
…the next, it actually appeared in the skies over the Twin Cities of Debauchery. But instead of being aboard the vessel, Cavil, Saddam, Phelps, and Frank were left on a ledge overlooking the area. Next, the base ship launched a MIRV and each warhead vectored off to cover Sodom and Gomorrah in its entirety.
The warheads exploded simultaneously, filling their retinas with multiple fireball flashes. Since Barney Frank was closest to the cliff, desiring to get a closer look at his favorite form of sexual activity, he turned to a pillar of salt as the blast wave hit him first, followed by Phelps, Saddam, and finally, Cavil.
FRAAAAAAK!” were the Number One Cylon’s last words….

Unfortunately, as Donald Rumsfeld said, you’ve got to go to war with the army you’ve got.

Which means baring Zombie Reagan’s appearance at a brokered convention, it’s going to be either Mitt, Newt, Rick or Ron.

No, he isn’t an idiot. He’s a Roman Catholic. He is simply repeating Roman Catholic doctrine. If you are a Roman Catholic, then you should be aware that those are the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church – whether you agree with them or not.

I don’t think unmarried people should have sex either. Whether Santorum or I or you or anybody else ever did otherwise is a separate issue – sex outside of marriage still has negative effects both on the people involved and on society as a whole. But then, I’m an Orthodox Christian, and I am just repeating Orthodox Christian doctrine.

We live in a fallen world, and any candidate you find will be flawed. Jesus Christ is not running for POTUS.

I can cope with Newt or Rick. Ron, not so much. Mitt or Obozo, not at all.

  50. 51 | February 13, 2012 10:32 pm

“he runs his stupid theocratic mouth about contraception and out of wedlock sex. This loser needs to find a real world job.”

Expressing his opinion about rightful behavior has nothing to do with “theocracy.” Rick Santorum is NOT promoting any kind of theocracy, nor has he ever proposed any legislative bans on contraception or out-of-wedlock sex.

If you can’t back one of the Catholic candidates (Rick or Newt), that leaves Mitt Romney (are you aware of the real-life Mormon theocracy that once existed in Utah?), Ron Paul (who would capitulate to Islam – which IS a theocracy), or Obama (ditto). Roman Catholics have their own opinions about correct moral behavior, but that does not translate into any attempt to create a “theocracy” in the public sphere.
