When Is It O.K. To Laugh At A President?

Michael Ramirez Cartoon

Algae!? Really, Mr. President, that’s your idea? That’s going to be what saves us, and allows us to fuel, quite literally a brand new vibrant and growing economy? Left and Right take turns alternately admonishing the other side of the political divide about the popper respect due to the office of the Presidency. I do feel that the office deserves respect, but I also believe that the person occupying that office should be the number one example of how that respect be paid. One of the truly beautiful things about some of our greatest Presidents is that they all knew that they were merely occupants of that office, and that they were put in charge of institutions which were truly greater than any one person, or even groups of people. So, my question is a simple one. At what point does a single man do such a disservice to that office that outright ridicule is not only allowed, but demanded of those who make up the governed?

Personally, for me anyhow, trying to sell Americans on using Algae as our main source of energy crosses that point. Before you pseudo scientific environmentalists start screaming about my being anti-science, I realize that research into the energy productive or any other possible uses of Algae would be a good thing, and that in the future, Algae may prove to be a super cool new toy. Suggesting that today, Algae is a viable alternative to our current providers of energy can best be described as one of the single dumbest statements of all time. The fact that our President said it is simply astounding. As of now, the debate of who is smart and who is dumb is officially over, and those who see Barack Obama as smart have to be either lying or high or completely brain dead.

I do not know if Barack Obama believes this idiocy or not. I do know that he has spent his entire term in office so far working feverishly to insure that our oil production and electricity production slows to a point where it is a hindrance to our economy rather than a fuel for it. Being the First President to ever be held in contempt of court for ending all oil Production in the Gulf is only the tip of the Ice berg. Little Barry has been using our increased percentage of oil coming from domestic sources a point in his reelection bid. What he leaves out of course is that the major reason for this has happened in spite of his policies and not as a result of them. If he were in fact an emperor as he wishes, that productivity for which he is spiking the football so to speak, known as the Bakken Formation, would be producing no oil at all. When President Obama took the Oath of Office in January of 2009, our nation ranked 4th in terms of Economic Freedom according to the Heritage Foundation. Three years later, and we have slipped to 10th on that list.

For years, Barack Obama has been traveling the country stating that he would like to see gas prices around $10 per gallon. His reason of course, that’s the price when those high speed rail systems start to make economic sense to a population that escaped that vastly inferior form of transportation over a hundred years ago. We had windmills in the 1600′s as well, and found a better form for delivering our energy needs. His goal of bankrupting the electricity industry of course will make windmills seem viable in the long run, only if we make the price for a kilowatt hour so expensive artificially, that using a system which only worked occasionally would be the best that we could hope for. Of course, openly stating that to the American People would be political suicide. After the Windmill and Solar Panel businesses suffered the inevitable high profile bankruptcies, even after receiving massive subsidization, what does an inherently dishonest President have left?

What he has left is Algae. He must think that a vast majority of Americans are the dumbest people on the planet. Exit questions for the environmentalists: What on Earth do you think will be the environmental impact of taking all of the Algae from the World’s Oceans and burning it? How much Algae do we need to burn to move a half ton automobile 10 miles? Wouldn’t the Carbon Gas created from burning Algae be the same as carbon created from burning other forms of oil? How can you keep a straight face when discussing anything having to do with our current President?

What I like about the algae is they’ve produced 800 barrels of diesel an acre. Sounds small doesn’t it.

Yet it can be started on the worst land and beats 400 barrels of ethanol(much lower energy) an acre on our best farm land. Remember they did the chairman mao on ethanol.

GIVE US OUR FARM LAND BACK!!!

What happens if the bioengineered “fuel algae” gets in with the regular algae?

Just playing devil’s advocate here, isn’t that, like, really bad for the food chain? Or at the very least much more “environmentally dangerous” than extracting fuels that the Earth has naturally produced?

There is a serious problem with that theory though. A gallon of ethanol required 175,000 BTU’s of thermal energy to distil. A gallon of biodiesel produced from algae requires 575,000 BTU’s to distil. Unless you can change the laws of Thermodynamics at will, then the writing is already on the wall with regards to algae based biodiesel. Way past the point of diminishing returns existing solely in the land of magical unicorn farts.

Nothing. Bio-engineered does not mean that we rewrote the algae DNA, it just means that various species were cross bread to achieve a desired result. What usually happens when we do that is that the “new” species, which are known as hybrids, become infertile.

Bibi says it’s OK to laugh at the POTUS.

Israeli officials say they won’t warn the U.S. if they decide to launch a pre-emptive strike against Iranian nuclear facilities, one U.S. intelligence official familiar with the discussions told the Associated Press. The pronouncement, delivered in a series of private, top-level conversations, sets a tense tone ahead of meetings in the coming days at the White House and Capitol Hill.

It’s my understanding that the Israelis have made some strides in/progress towards creating petroleum from algae; I read something to this effect some months ago and may even have posted the link here, but alas did not save it.

If so, there are several ironies here, the most obvious being that, assuming Israel does end up being the leader in developing such a process, it will be the nation which Obama most obviously despises and wishes ill (after America, that is) that will end up providing the technology he is touting.

What is being lost here, however, is the realization that synthesizing “fossil fuels” out of algae will leave us exactly where we are if we burn fossil fuels. It’s the same fuel, just from a different source. If the reason for laying off fossil fuel is supposed harm to the environment, there will not only be no net gain from burning algae-based “oil” instead of the real thing—there will probably be a net loss when compared to genuine fossil fuel because the algae will have to be processed and refined just as the real oil would be. In addition, there is always the possibility—indeed, the likelihood—that “algae oil” will not provide all of the derivatives that we currently extract and use (and rely on) from petroleum, so the petroleum industry will not be replaced by algae farms.

Why, then, bother with algae technology at all? Well, we do need to look ahead to when the world’s current reserves are depleted and/or much more expensive to extract, and demand is greater because of population growth. But in the meantime, it is a mistake to think that algae oil will be a substitute for the real thing any time soon—and it is well to remember that even if it eventually is a substitute, it is not an alternative, but merely a replacement.

This isn’t the first time. Let’s harken back to those thrilling days of yesteryear when the Supreme High Dufus pontificated that the answer to the high cost of gasoline was properly inflated tires.

Until that time I was blissfully unaware that an epidemic of deflated tires was responsible for our national gasoline malaise.

I’m Sorry, but the truth is that algae based biodiesel is a energy negative product, there is simply no getting around that.

So far, nobody has been able to make fuel from algae for a cost anywhere close to cheap, let alone competitive. Some researchers question whether any kind of energy-conversion process based on photosynthesis will ever play a major role in our transportation energy system. One life-cycle analysis found algal biofuels would not have a positive energy balance, in other words, you’d have to put more energy in than you would get out. The prominent startup GreenFuel, which grew out of Harvard and MIT research, went bust earlier this year after blowing through $70 million.

There was an letter to the editor in my newspaper recently, and I’m just giving the jest of it because I don’t have the paper and repeat it word for word, but this person complains that:

Barack Obama has been the most disrespect president we have ever had.
The reason for this is simple it is because of racism.

The next Sunday another letter to the editor refutes this claim by saying:

To the person who wrote a letter to the editor that Barack Obama has been the most disrepected president ever and it is because of racism.
Apparently this person didn’t acknowledge the great disrespect lumped on George W. Bush in his last 4 years. To this person I say bunk. Barack Obama gets plenty of passes. Not to mention to even critize Obama’s policies you are racist. Don’t re-write history.

This shows you how much Israel doesn’t trust our government and especially our president and I don’t blame them. Obamma would naturally side with Iran.

Israelis reportedly don’t plan to notify US if decision made to strike Iran

But the apparent decision to keep the U.S. in the dark also stems from Israel’s frustration with the White House. After a visit by National Security Adviser Tom Donilon in particular, they became convinced the Americans would neither take military action, nor go along with unilateral action by Israel against Iran. The Israelis concluded they would have to conduct a strike unilaterally — a point they are likely to hammer home in a series of meetings over the next two weeks in Washington, the official said

He is anti-marriage and doesn’t treat women well…but can’t actually rule out he isn’t ac/dc!

Maher has never married. In 2003, he began dating former Playboy Cyber Girl Coco Johnsen. In November 2004, at the end of their 17-month relationship, she sued him for USD $9 million for “pain and suffering” for alleged “insulting, humiliating and degrading racial comments.” Her suit[66] stated that Maher promised to marry her and father her children, support her financially, and purchase a Beverly Hills home. Her suit also alleged that she quit her job as a flight attendant and occasional model to be with him. Maher’s lawyers in their response filed on November 23, 2004, in Los Angeles Superior Court said Maher is a “confirmed bachelor, and a very public one at that” who “never promised to marry [Johnsen] or to have children with her.”[67]

Maher’s filing stated that “When the dating ended, [Johnson] (sic) launched a campaign to embarrass, humiliate, and extort ridiculous sums of money from Bill Maher.” Johnsen accused another former boyfriend of rape and kidnapping in 1997, and the charges were later dismissed for lack of evidence.[68] Her lawsuit against Maher was dismissed on May 2, 2005.

Maher next to his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in September 2010
Maher enjoys his bachelor status and states that he does not want to get married. On his website, he is quoted as saying, “I’m the last of my guy friends to have never gotten married, and their wives — they don’t want them playing with me. I’m like the escaped slave — I bring news of freedom.”[69]

In 2005, he began dating Karrine Steffans, best-selling author and former hip hop model.[70][71][72] When commentators suggested there was a pattern to his dating because both his girlfriend and former girlfriend were black, Maher said, “People say I’m into black women. Robert De Niro is into black women. I’m just into women who are real, and they happen to be black.”[71]

Valerie’s got to be steaming with the Obamas right now, though. She bought up all that slum property in Chicago, in anticipation of the Messiah and Fat Ass flying to Copenhagen to get the Olympics for the Windy City – her property was in the plum spot for building Olympic facilities. So now she’s stuck with shithole property like I’m sure the Obamas guaranteed. Because you know they absolutely believed the appearance of their divine selves would make it impossible for the Olympic Committee to give the Olympics to anyone else.

Australia just passed a Cap & Trade Bill in November 2011 that will take effect in May 2012.
I wonder how long it will take for the peasants to rise up in their righteous wrath and put an end to that BS.

The scheme requires around 500 of the nation’s largest emitters to purchase fixed-price permits for their CO2eq emissions at a starting price of $A23 per tonne (metric ton). Initially, some industries will receive a percentage of their permits free depending on their degree of trade exposure. Agriculture and private transport are excluded from the scheme. The latter was excluded in order to secure passage through the lower house. SkS believes that the scheme would be improved by its inclusion.

As stated in Appendix 1 of the Copenhagen Accord, Australia is committed unconditionally to reduce emissions by 5% below 2000 levels by 2020. This equates to 160 million tonnes of CO2eq in that year. Many would see this as inadequate, and indeed it is, though I should point out that with Australia’s growing population, it represents a reduction of 23% on a per-capita basis.

In 2015, this carbon pricing scheme becomes a fully fledged emissions trading scheme (ETS), with the price of permits set by the market, and an overall cap that will achieve the required 5% reduction. The scheme has the flexibility to tighten the cap in the context of significant global efforts to reduce emissions. Under the Copenhagen Accord, Australia has committed to “reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% on 2000 levels by 2020 if the world agrees to an ambitious global deal capable of stabilising levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere at 450 ppm CO2eq or lower, and by up to 15% by 2020 if there is a global agreement which falls short of securing atmospheric stabilisation at 450 ppm CO2eq and under which major developing economies commit to substantially restrain emissions and advanced economies take on commitments comparable to Australia’s”. Commendably, this review of the cap will be conducted by an independent body, as it is the UK.

Michelle Obama was a little girl during the years that South Shore went from being an integrated middle-class neighborhood to a gang-ridden, crime-infested black slum.

A friend of mine grew up there. He told me about waking up each day in the mid-Sixties to find that another one of his friends had moved away in the night; how it became a horror to go to school because the black kids would beat up the ever-dwindling number of white kids.

In the mid-Sixties the huge residential hotel, the Southmoor—one entire square city block—which was the place to hold fancy weddings and other celebrations, was invaded by Blackstone Rangers (later the Black P. Stone Nation, later the El Rukhns) and, in the days long before crack, became a dangerous hellhole filled with muggers and junkies and whores. The Southmoor later became a boarded-up hulk.

That’s what Michelle Obama grew up with; a formerly-grand neighborhood (the South Shore Country Club was very exclusive) that was turned to shit by gangster violence.

And she is on the side of the people who created that environment.

In Chicago, that is—or was—true, at least in the period between, say, 1915 and about 1970.

Chicago was—still is—a very racially-polarized city. It has the history of a race riot in 1919 where the whites went into the black neighborhoods and lynched blacks from lightposts. You can get some feel for the racial animosity if you read some of the fiction of James T. Farrell, author of the “Studs Lonigan” trilogy, which—like much of his fiction—deals with, among other things, the Irish communities of the South Side dealing with the ever-greater encroachment by black people.

“Blockbusting” was a common practice in Chicago; real estate firms would sell a house to a black family, then use “buy now before your house loses its value” scare tactics to get the other white owners to sell (for ever-less money), then turn around and sell the same houses at inflate prices to the black families who were hoping to move up.

Australian Ethicists Call For “After-Birth Abortions” In Medical Journal…

The two are quick to note that they prefer the term “after-birth abortion“ as opposed to “infanticide.” Why? Because it “[emphasizes] that the moral status of the individual killed is comparable with that of a fetus (on which ‘abortions’ in the traditional sense are performed) rather than to that of a child.”

The United States sits on enough known oil to last us, at our present cinsumption rate, 250 years. I would say we have plentyof time to investigate, explore and tinker with all kinds of new technologies for energy production without sacrificing lifestyle, progress or livlihood. Drill Baby Drill! As new technologies become feasible, they will enter into the streamof profitable endeavors. If they are not proved to be feasible, they will go the way of steam-powered cars and tractors. The government has NEVER been good at forcing inventiveness, with the exception of the A-Bomb, and then it was the military and the gross need of national survival . . . not the socialistic tendencies of a centrally planned government tinkering with the free marker.

Thanks to MikeC and Huckfunn I have done quite a bit of research on this whole oil situation. Here is the really ugly brutal truth.

Crude oil is a global fungible commodity. While it may or may not be true that the US has enough oil to last 250 years at “OUR” current consumption rate, “OUR” current consumption rate means diddly-squat. What that means is that the second that oil comes out of the ground it goes on sale on the global market and is purchased by the highest bidder, and then shipped to them.

The only way America will ever become energy independent or self sufficient is if America withdraws from the global crude oil market. What might constitute a 250 year supply for America at America’s current consumption rate doesn’t even remotely approach a 250 year supply for the entire world.

What is not even remotely in debate though is that America has the worlds largest proven hydrocarbon fuel reserves. The majority of it just isn’t crude oil.

You would have to ask MikeC or Huckfunn about that, I am somewhat unclear, I believe it does not mean recoverable. The Green River Valley Shale Oil Reserves for example are estimated at 2.6 TRILLION barrels, but I have been unable to find any reference to their recoverable reserves, unlike the Balkan Formation which has been cited as 503 Billion Barrels, but only about 4.6 Billion recoverable barrels.
