Algae!? Really, Mr. President, that’s your idea? That’s going to be what saves us, and allows us to fuel, quite literally a brand new vibrant and growing economy? Left and Right take turns alternately admonishing the other side of the political divide about the popper respect due to the office of the Presidency. I do feel that the office deserves respect, but I also believe that the person occupying that office should be the number one example of how that respect be paid. One of the truly beautiful things about some of our greatest Presidents is that they all knew that they were merely occupants of that office, and that they were put in charge of institutions which were truly greater than any one person, or even groups of people. So, my question is a simple one. At what point does a single man do such a disservice to that office that outright ridicule is not only allowed, but demanded of those who make up the governed?
Personally, for me anyhow, trying to sell Americans on using Algae as our main source of energy crosses that point. Before you pseudo scientific environmentalists start screaming about my being anti-science, I realize that research into the energy productive or any other possible uses of Algae would be a good thing, and that in the future, Algae may prove to be a super cool new toy. Suggesting that today, Algae is a viable alternative to our current providers of energy can best be described as one of the single dumbest statements of all time. The fact that our President said it is simply astounding. As of now, the debate of who is smart and who is dumb is officially over, and those who see Barack Obama as smart have to be either lying or high or completely brain dead.
I do not know if Barack Obama believes this idiocy or not. I do know that he has spent his entire term in office so far working feverishly to insure that our oil production and electricity production slows to a point where it is a hindrance to our economy rather than a fuel for it. Being the First President to ever be held in contempt of court for ending all oil Production in the Gulf is only the tip of the Ice berg. Little Barry has been using our increased percentage of oil coming from domestic sources a point in his reelection bid. What he leaves out of course is that the major reason for this has happened in spite of his policies and not as a result of them. If he were in fact an emperor as he wishes, that productivity for which he is spiking the football so to speak, known as the Bakken Formation, would be producing no oil at all. When President Obama took the Oath of Office in January of 2009, our nation ranked 4th in terms of Economic Freedom according to the Heritage Foundation. Three years later, and we have slipped to 10th on that list.
For years, Barack Obama has been traveling the country stating that he would like to see gas prices around $10 per gallon. His reason of course, that’s the price when those high speed rail systems start to make economic sense to a population that escaped that vastly inferior form of transportation over a hundred years ago. We had windmills in the 1600′s as well, and found a better form for delivering our energy needs. His goal of bankrupting the electricity industry of course will make windmills seem viable in the long run, only if we make the price for a kilowatt hour so expensive artificially, that using a system which only worked occasionally would be the best that we could hope for. Of course, openly stating that to the American People would be political suicide. After the Windmill and Solar Panel businesses suffered the inevitable high profile bankruptcies, even after receiving massive subsidization, what does an inherently dishonest President have left?
What he has left is Algae. He must think that a vast majority of Americans are the dumbest people on the planet. Exit questions for the environmentalists: What on Earth do you think will be the environmental impact of taking all of the Algae from the World’s Oceans and burning it? How much Algae do we need to burn to move a half ton automobile 10 miles? Wouldn’t the Carbon Gas created from burning Algae be the same as carbon created from burning other forms of oil? How can you keep a straight face when discussing anything having to do with our current President?

Brings new meaning to the term “Science Fiction”.
What I like about the algae is they’ve produced 800 barrels of diesel an acre. Sounds small doesn’t it.
Yet it can be started on the worst land and beats 400 barrels of ethanol(much lower energy) an acre on our best farm land. Remember they did the chairman mao on ethanol.

There is a serious problem with that theory though. A gallon of ethanol required 175,000 BTU’s of thermal energy to distil. A gallon of biodiesel produced from algae requires 575,000 BTU’s to distil. Unless you can change the laws of Thermodynamics at will, then the writing is already on the wall with regards to algae based biodiesel. Way past the point of diminishing returns existing solely in the land of magical unicorn farts.

Nothing. Bio-engineered does not mean that we rewrote the algae DNA, it just means that various species were cross bread to achieve a desired result. What usually happens when we do that is that the “new” species, which are known as hybrids, become infertile.

Doesn’t take that kind of distillation. The asphaltene is negligible. The diesel is ready for the tank right from the algae

Umm, no, on the scale the President is talking it’s a Ponzi Scheme, as a niche market product for enviro-Nazi’s it would work, as would it in a post crude oil world where massive amounts of coal were burned for the thermal energy to produce biodiesel for only the most essential transportation services or the extremely wealthy it would work, but no where else.

It’s my understanding that the Israelis have made some strides in/progress towards creating petroleum from algae; I read something to this effect some months ago and may even have posted the link here, but alas did not save it.
If so, there are several ironies here, the most obvious being that, assuming Israel does end up being the leader in developing such a process, it will be the nation which Obama most obviously despises and wishes ill (after America, that is) that will end up providing the technology he is touting.
What is being lost here, however, is the realization that synthesizing “fossil fuels” out of algae will leave us exactly where we are if we burn fossil fuels. It’s the same fuel, just from a different source. If the reason for laying off fossil fuel is supposed harm to the environment, there will not only be no net gain from burning algae-based “oil” instead of the real thing—there will probably be a net loss when compared to genuine fossil fuel because the algae will have to be processed and refined just as the real oil would be. In addition, there is always the possibility—indeed, the likelihood—that “algae oil” will not provide all of the derivatives that we currently extract and use (and rely on) from petroleum, so the petroleum industry will not be replaced by algae farms.
Why, then, bother with algae technology at all? Well, we do need to look ahead to when the world’s current reserves are depleted and/or much more expensive to extract, and demand is greater because of population growth. But in the meantime, it is a mistake to think that algae oil will be a substitute for the real thing any time soon—and it is well to remember that even if it eventually is a substitute, it is not an alternative, but merely a replacement.
This isn’t the first time. Let’s harken back to those thrilling days of yesteryear when the Supreme High Dufus pontificated that the answer to the high cost of gasoline was properly inflated tires.
Until that time I was blissfully unaware that an epidemic of deflated tires was responsible for our national gasoline malaise.

In the mid-Sixties the huge residential hotel, the Southmoor—one entire square city block—which was the place to hold fancy weddings and other celebrations, was invaded by Blackstone Rangers (later the Black P. Stone Nation, later the El Rukhns) and, in the days long before crack, became a dangerous hellhole filled with muggers and junkies and whores. The Southmoor later became a boarded-up hulk.
That’s what Michelle Obama grew up with; a formerly-grand neighborhood (the South Shore Country Club was very exclusive) that was turned to shit by gangster violence.

In Chicago, that is—or was—true, at least in the period between, say, 1915 and about 1970.
Chicago was—still is—a very racially-polarized city. It has the history of a race riot in 1919 where the whites went into the black neighborhoods and lynched blacks from lightposts. You can get some feel for the racial animosity if you read some of the fiction of James T. Farrell, author of the “Studs Lonigan” trilogy, which—like much of his fiction—deals with, among other things, the Irish communities of the South Side dealing with the ever-greater encroachment by black people.
“Blockbusting” was a common practice in Chicago; real estate firms would sell a house to a black family, then use “buy now before your house loses its value” scare tactics to get the other white owners to sell (for ever-less money), then turn around and sell the same houses at inflate prices to the black families who were hoping to move up.

That’s what really happened to my knee. lol Help, I stumbled across a novel!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ doriangrey:
Indeed it is. Have people’s morals become so warped they aren’t concerned with this???
If this were inacted when I had my first child. They would have deemed him unfit to life. Yet at 30 he is working on his 2nd degree and contributes to others and society.

The United States sits on enough known oil to last us, at our present cinsumption rate, 250 years. I would say we have plentyof time to investigate, explore and tinker with all kinds of new technologies for energy production without sacrificing lifestyle, progress or livlihood. Drill Baby Drill! As new technologies become feasible, they will enter into the streamof profitable endeavors. If they are not proved to be feasible, they will go the way of steam-powered cars and tractors. The government has NEVER been good at forcing inventiveness, with the exception of the A-Bomb, and then it was the military and the gross need of national survival . . . not the socialistic tendencies of a centrally planned government tinkering with the free marker.
I laugh at Obama and it is perfectly acceptable to do so. He is a chump and a sttoge. a Post Turtle. An America-hater of the first order. I have disdain, resentment and anger for him. I scoff in his general direction.

Isn’t It Ironic?
The food stamp program, part of the Department of Agriculture, is pleased to be distributing the greatest amount of food stamps ever.
Meanwhile, the Park Service, part of the Department of Interior, asks us to “please do not feed the animals” because the animals may grow dependent and not learn to take care of themselves.
PIMF!

Yah, she’s a real bitch. lol lol {{{Lily}}} The leg looks much better now though. Just got some really tight sore muscles, but I do lunges and ballet stretches to loosen them up.

When will the time morph (if we keep obamma) on who gets to get food and who doesn’t get to get food? Slippery slope depending on the government. Not to mention the government, at least this one wants us all depend on it. Food for me but not thee! Crazytown.
@ Lily:
In Obamas Affordable Care Act it is already here.
It is the law of the land impemented in 2014.
The ‘Comittee” will decide which “Units”
recieve care in a multitude of situations.
Imperfect babies & seniors will not often make the
cut.
Obama is a freeking moster in every way that matters.
@ Lily:
It is. I have a problem with swelling, but that is in both legs. Not sure why but the exercising does help a bit.

I am thinking I may need PT. The muscles are very tight and sore. It burns…inside. Weird feeling.

Thanks to MikeC and Huckfunn I have done quite a bit of research on this whole oil situation. Here is the really ugly brutal truth.
Crude oil is a global fungible commodity. While it may or may not be true that the US has enough oil to last 250 years at “OUR” current consumption rate, “OUR” current consumption rate means diddly-squat. What that means is that the second that oil comes out of the ground it goes on sale on the global market and is purchased by the highest bidder, and then shipped to them.
The only way America will ever become energy independent or self sufficient is if America withdraws from the global crude oil market. What might constitute a 250 year supply for America at America’s current consumption rate doesn’t even remotely approach a 250 year supply for the entire world.
What is not even remotely in debate though is that America has the worlds largest proven hydrocarbon fuel reserves. The majority of it just isn’t crude oil.
@ doriangrey:
dorian, when the term ‘proven’ is used does that mean it’s also recoverable (economically, technichly)?
@ NoThreat2U:
Get your MD to give you a therapy referral. but rememberm Physical Therapists are a mean bunch. They like to hurt you. No pain, no gain was invented by them, I’m sure.
eaglesoars wrote:
You would have to ask MikeC or Huckfunn about that, I am somewhat unclear, I believe it does not mean recoverable. The Green River Valley Shale Oil Reserves for example are estimated at 2.6 TRILLION barrels, but I have been unable to find any reference to their recoverable reserves, unlike the Balkan Formation which has been cited as 503 Billion Barrels, but only about 4.6 Billion recoverable barrels.
@ father_of_10:
I have avoided calling and asking him because he will give me hell for not getting my bloodwork done. Yes, I am worse then a kid sometimes. That is why I have been trying to do the stretching on my own, along with a moist heating pad. If I don’t feel better soon though I will probably call him. Oh and the PT cant scare me…I have given birth…twice. lol
NoThreat2U wrote:
Three time if you consider that general attitude of yours a rotten little brat…
@ NoThreat2U:
I have a hard time going to the doc too. I have high blood pressure and the doc I was going to wanted to all kinds of labs and stuff too often and since I know little about this I balked and had an argument with her and we fired each other (I don’t want to have you as my doctor anymore! Good, because I don’t want you as my patient anymore either!) So when I need a refill on my prescription I asked one of the docs that work for me to call it in and he said: No prob! Want a 90-day with 4 refills?
Problem handled.
but I don’t have a PCP now.

Ouch.
doriangrey wrote:
thanks dorian. I asked because I was unclear also. How’s mom?
@ NoThreat2U:
Trust me I thought that too. I have gave birth to a 9lb baby and another baby naturally.
The PT whooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. At least giving birth comes to an end. They put you in a world of hurt. Pain so bad I threw up. Yep I thought child-birth was the worse. No by far! Torture is what physical therapy is like. Pure torture. I begged them to waterboard me because that would have been better than them working my frozen shoulder.
@ doriangrey:
My bad attitude is my best asset
@ father_of_10:
I don’t usually mind going, but when you have surgeons telling you that you have a finite number of years left…do this blood work just to see how bad off you are….I prefer not to do the bloodwork.
@ NoThreat2U:
Check my #165 on PT.
NoThreat2U wrote:
Don’t blame you there. But doc’s are wrong at times.
NoThreat2U wrote:
we all have a finite number of years left. What if the blood work shows that the number of years can be extended, hmmm? Wanna be around with your kids as long as possible, yes?
GO DO THE FUCKING BLOODWORK!!
@ Lily:
It was really that bad????? Well, it may come to that. I am trying to deal with it on my own though. As to the docs, part of me doesn’t want to get caught up in some grand treatment plan only to have Obamacare cut me off at some point. If I am gonna go, I’m gonna go. Half of a treatment plan would be of no help. I am trying to take a more holistic approach anyway.
@ eaglesoars:
I do want to be around as long as possible. What I don’t want is a definitive number. Two surgeons have told me a timeline, two said it was bullshit. I know I should get this done, I am just putting it off for fear of what they have to say.
@ NoThreat2U:
Oh yeah really that bad. But I had a frozen shoulder one of the more painful things. As far as your leg probably will not be as bad as a frozen shoulder I was on pain pills too. That damn pt hurt like hell.
I cried every session. But my pt told me it was one of the most painful types of pt to go through. He was right. Your leg probably will not be that bad. Like eagles says go get your blood work done! I can say my shoulder has 90% movement back. When I began I had maybe 30%.
NoThreat2U wrote:
gurl, you just bring your bad attitude. You got NO expiration date that they’re privy to so just tell them to shove it.
@ NoThreat2U:
If you are dealing with it on your own you may not know all the movements that will help it best. A pt can help you out there too.
On what to do at home.
eaglesoars wrote:
Yep doc’s are wrong on that. My cousin’s wife should be dead like a couple of years ago. Brain cancer. She is actually getting better now.
@ eaglesoars:
I hope you are right. I really am trying to gear myself up to getting it done. I’m trying my hardest to just do it and get it out of the damn way. I just can’t get to that place in my head yet. God I wish my Dad was still alive.
@ Lily:
I will probably wait out the week and then call him Monday if it isn’t feeling better. I am very glad the discoloration went away though. God that thing was ugly!
@ NoThreat2U:
As par your leg I don’t think it will be as bad. My shoulder froze up. I had bone grinding on bone while they were working my arm.
As par your blood work, make the appt. The repeat ‘I’m not going to let it bother me today and at night I’m not going to let it bother me tonight. Don’t think. Because your mind will come up with all types of stuff to scare you.
