Charles Johnson’s positive force, Louis Farrakhan, is really over the top. In his latest rant he claims that Jesus, who was a 1st Century Jew, was a Black African! He also claims that if the Prophet Elijah appeared during a Jewish Seder and turned out to be black, the Jews would call the cops! This was very offensive and insulting.
There is part of me that doesn’t think that Louis Farrakhan believes the garbage he is spewing. He smiles too much for him to be serious. Or he is really truly an evil man?

The “black” thing is a Nation of Islam thing. I get they get pissed off about Jesus being depicted as he came from Denmark or Norway. I am sure Jesus looked like any Jew of the 1st century looked (more Arab than European looking). That is because it was before the disapora. But Jews then probably were not radically different looking than many Sephardic Jews look like today.
Given how I look and feel after a week of camping, I am guessing Moses might have been pretty scary looking after 40 years wandering Sinai.

Sometimes people like to imagine Jesus as they are. Which is fine. So images of him tend to mirror the audience the image is made for. But not always…
Personally I am a big fan of Black Madonna Icons, some which had African features. They are typically found in Europe. I like them, they are beautiful. Is that some proof Jesus looked African? I think it is early artists guessing, but who knows.
