William Kristol is one of the main thinkers of the Neo-Cons. He was fully supportive of the Wilsonian “spread Democracy” ideology. This idea influenced the Bush administration after 9/11 which led to the Afghanistan and Iraq nation building projects. Wilsonianism is also popular with the Left. Obama launched the Libya War to support Democracy. Obama with the support of McCain and his girlfriend, Ms. Lindsey Graham, supported the Arab Spring that installed Islamists governments in Tunisia and Egypt. William Kristol was one the biggest supporters of these polices. Well not anymore.
Realizing the error of his ways, William Kristol finally admits the truth. That the enemy we are facing is not just Al-Qaeda. Its political Islam in all its forms.
The most striking sentence of President Obama’s eloquent speech to the nation Tuesday nightcame very near the end: “This time of war began in Afghanistan, and this is where it will end.”
Would that it were so. Would that it were so that the Sept. 11 attacks marked the beginning of a period whose end is soon approaching. The president thinks this, and the American people would like it to be so. It’s an attractive view, with the great political merit of offering hope of a relatively early and clear end to “this time of war.” And it’s not an intellectually incoherent view: The 9/11 attack was launched by al-Qaeda based in Afghanistan. Our war aim has been and is to destroy al-Qaeda and prevent the use of Afghanistan as a base for future attacks. When we’ve achieved this objective, the war will end.
[....]
This doesn’t mean we need to be deploying troops and fighting ground wars all around the globe. After Korea and Vietnam, we conducted the rest of the Cold War without major combat operations. But that “time of war” didn’t end after the armistice in Korea or the retreat from Vietnam. Unfortunately, the war in which we are engaged won’t end with peace in, or withdrawal from, Afghanistan.
I salute William Kristol for his realization. I was one of his biggest critics, but I have to be intellectually honest. He realizes that we can’t impose Democracy on the Islamic world. The best thing is containment and Cold War with Political Islam. They have many enemies and the US should reach out to anti-Islamic factions and encircle the Dar al Islam.
Congratulations William Kristol for seeing the light and the truth! He will make an great ally in spreading the truth about political Islam.

welcome aboard, bill.
Old bill has been so wrong for so long! One good article does not make him a right thinking conservative! Good for him on this, but it will take much more for me to add him back to my must read list! JMHO
Oh containment isn’t good enough

We need to get our economic house in order. WE need to change how Islam is taught in this country. We need to form an anti-Islamist block. Then eventually we can destroy Dar al Islam

We need far more than just our economic house in order, America has been infiltrated by Marxist’s who are using the fear of Islam as a distraction to keep the average America from noticing what they, the Marxist’s are doing to our Nation.
If you are obsessed with America’s relationship with Islam, they you have been played for a fool while the real threat steals America right out from under your nose.

It’s only a starting point.
First we have to stop losing ground before we can start them pushing back.

Hey, first we have to survive being eaten alive by the Marxist
Tiger before we worry about being bitten by the Malaria infected Islamic mosquito. Because if we don’t survive Marxism’s takeover of America, the threat of Islam doesn’t matter.

That’s what I said!!

pffft. What was his first frigging clue?
Given the formidable intellectual heritage (dad Irving and mom Gertrude Himmelfarb -- the most intimidating of the bunch) this guy is so slow on the uptake he might as well not be in the game.
And this “President Obama’s eloquent speech’ bs -- it’s eloquent only if you believed a word of it. And anyone who still believes anything Obama says other than the personal pronoun ‘I’ is an idiot.
