Why I Love West Virginia!

Political Cartoons by Lisa Benson

There has been much discussion about what the primary votes this Tuesday actually meant. As if primary votes could ever be applied to a larger indication of the public mood. When Ned Lamont won the Democrat primary in Connecticut in 2006, that was reported to mean that the voters at large hated President Bush. Bear in mind that only the Democrat voters of Connecticut were voting in that particular election. What it meant was that the Democrat voters, and only the Democrat voters of Connecticut wished to send a more liberal Senator to Washington D.C. in order to represent their State’s business. During the general election of that year of course, Joe Lieberman destroyed Ned Lamont, and alas the good people of Connecticut sent their conservative Democrat Senator back to Washington to represent their wishes.

If I had a dollar for every time in my life, “conventional wisdom,” turned out to be jaw droppingly wrong, I would be paying Warren Buffett’s tax rate and promising not to pimp out my secretary in order to score political points for a liberal politician who seeks to argue through anecdotal stories. Yet, undaunted by the stench of failure at every conceivable turn, we see a plug and play narrative being substituted for actual thoughtful analysis during every election cycle. This decades narrative, they want liberals and conservatives to seek some middle ground in order to push forward an agenda that is made up entirely of the liberal talking points, no matter how many conservatives get elected by promising to put a complete stop to this lunacy. It does not even matter how many of those Democrats who do win elections do so by promising to be conservatives and govern as Republicans once elected. (The last sentence is somewhat of an early jape meant for the good people of Indiana. Representative Joe Donnelly is already running as a Democrat who will do whatever he can to sound like a Republican for the next 6 months. Please just take one moment to remember what happened the last time we elected a whole bunch of Democrats promising to be Blue Dogs. We got landed with Obamacare and Dodd Frank, and are now facing the prospect of ratifying the LOST Treaty.)

The Loss of Richard Lugar in Indiana means nothing more than the Republican voters in that State are tired of being represented by a law maker who more aptly represents the values held by the Democrats in his State. Its context and scope go no further than that. It means that the Tea Party, at least in terms of Indiana is no where near the demise so gleefully reported in the main stream media. There is one primary however that should send chills down the spine of every Democrat operative and kingmaker.

The Democrat voters in West Virginia, 41% of them anyhow, have sent a signal that even made the BBC news. What’s remarkable to me about this are two things. I have known a few people from Britain over the years, and I had a hell of a time trying to explain to them exactly where and what West Virginia was. There are even people in our own country who believe it to still be a part of Virginia. So, when my native state makes the national news of a country where probably most of its inhabitants will have difficulty believing that it really does exist, that is something. The other thing is that what happened in West Virginia’s primary hardly made our own news cycle. Richard Lugar’s unremarkable loss, that made the news. North Carolina being the 32nd State out of 32 so far to state unequivocally that they do not want people of the same sex getting married, that made the news. West Virginia’s Democrats opting to vote for prisoner 11593-051 rather than an incumbent President, well that’s page 25 story material for sure.

There’s more to this though. Prisoner 11593-051 is not even a West Virginia resident, definitely not a favorite son. He is from New Mexico, and is serving a lengthy prison sentence for extortion, and a more serious form of assault through intimidation. He has no campaign platform, and due to travel restrictions was not in fact able to do any campaigning.

When Lyndon Johnson ran for reelection in 1968, he dropped out of the race because he failed to win New Hampshire by a large enough margin. New Hampshire was not even the first state. It was simply felt by the apparatchiks at the time that it did not bode well for an incumbent to face that level of dissension from his own party. That the Democrats in West Virginia have stated very loudly, “we are not certain if we would rather have Barack Obama, the current President, or a convicted thug be our President,” points to some real trouble in paradise. It is just another one of those small signs which run counter to the Obama shoo in narrative. Maybe by itself it is small potatoes, but coupled with Hillary Clinton’s planned skipping of the convention in North Carolina, many of his former donors keeping their collective purses closed, Several former endorsers refusing to associate their names with his this time around, and dear leader may be facing a tougher time than conventional wisdom realizes.

There are some dynamics of note here. I am not certain of the actual demographics at play here, but just from having lived there, West Virginia may be the only State in the Union to have a majority of voters who belong to a union. It may be the only State in the country that is entirely dependent upon the coal industry for its economic basis. It may be the only State in the country that has had a President declare that he intended to bankrupt their entire economic viability, and then attempt to follow through on that promise. Other states produce coal, but West Virginia is tiny. Coal is pretty much all West Virginia has, and she is our nation’s top producer of bituminous coal, and the nation’s second leading producer of energy, with not one drop of oil or liter of gas to be found anywhere in the State.

West Virginia is that canary in the coal mine so to speak when discussing the ravages of the Green Fairy. The good citizens of that State are not bitter clingers to guns and Bibles, but really upset at a President who has told them that they must sacrifice having groceries on the table in order to promote his Marxist agenda. They have seen the devil in the details, and have declared that a convicted felon with zero moral fiber would be better suited to improve their lot in life than the Harvard educated supposed, “Constitutional Scholar,” who has accused them of being selfish for wanting to work to support themselves. Go figure.

Obama: “Sometimes I Forget” The Magnitude Of The Recession

Mitt Romney Press Secretary Andrea Saul released this statement in response to Obama’s remarks:

It’s not surprising that a president who forgot to create jobs, forgot to cut the debt, and forgot to change Washington has now admitted that he’s forgotten about the recession. In fact, it seems that the President has forgotten that he’s been in office for the last three-and-a-half years. In November, the American people won’t forget.

The Left’s National Vote Fraud Strategy Exposed

This report reveals the Left’s vote fraud strategy for the 2012 elections. Like a KGB operation, it is thorough, multi-faceted and redundant. It has overt and covert, illegal and legal elements, the latter of which are designed, at least in part, to facilitate illegal activities later. It is a deliberate, premeditated, comprehensive plan to win the 2012 presidential election at all costs, and is in keeping with the organizational methods, associations and ethics of the Community-Organizer-in-Chief, Barack Obama.

Congrats to you, Cold! I’d pop a top for you but it’s bit early for that.

Get this. I’m flying to Atlanta today for my sister’s wedding. She’s 62 and never been married before. She’s marrying the guy who lived across the street from us when we lived in Enon Valley. I haven’t seen that guy in 50 years… and his parents will be at the wedding. They’re both 94. Crazy story.

“gee google, what are you going to do today?”
“the same thing I do every day pinky, try to take over the world”

Google Maps update offers local deals, indoor walking directions

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Google has started to integrate Groupon-like offers into Google Maps, and it is not stopping there.

On Wednesday, Google started off its integration efforts with Google Maps 6.7. Now, US consumers who use maps on Android devices will start receiving offers for nearby deals and coupons when conducting a search for a local business.

Another addition is indoor walking directions, allowing users in the US and Japan to use Google Maps to navigate inside malls and airports.

“This will help you get directions not only to a building’s front door, but also through those doors to the places where you want to go inside,” online magazine Stark Insider cited Benjamin Grol, product manager at Google, as saying.

Made the mistake of looking at my newspaper today. Press played their hand too early this time I think. Looks like the only reason O came out in support of gay marriage is so the press can run articles claiming Romney bullied gays in school 50 years ago. My local paper actually had the gall to state that this is the only important center issue of the election. This should tell you exactly what their plans are.

However, Romney has decided he isn’t playing the game by their rules this time. As we reported here on Blogmocracy.

    @ huckfunn:

Heh™. Obama will get a money bump by coming out for gay marriage, but it will hurt him at the polls in swing states like North Carolina. I, myself, am pleased that he wants to draw this distinction. It lets Romney play the moderate (for civil unions but for keeping traditional marriage) and shows how radical fringe Obama really is. He is really playing to his base, but how well will that play to the swing voters? We’ll see. I am more and more convinced that this is the pivotal election of my lifetime. If Obama gets four more years, the United States as we know it will be gone by the end of it. I have to say that I am slowly becoming a Romney fan. He is saying all the right things, pretty much. I wish he were stronger on the Second Amendment. He really needs to look at that part of his platform.

Amen, me too, however in all fairness, so far he has played a very careful game. During the primaries many people held this against him, but his strategy of being slow, deliberate, careful and winning one victory at a time instead of trying to go for the knockout punch win does seem to be paying off.

I know I’d like to see something similar in scope from Romney.

The Rights of Indigenous People and the Rest of Us

In early 2011, President Obama announced that the United States would sign the U.N. Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Now the U.N. wants us to give Mt. Rushmore to the Indians. James Anaya, U.N. special rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples, spent twelve days in the U.S. meeting with representatives of Native Americans. Returning to Geneva, he urged the government to turn over control of lands considered sacred to the tribes, including the Mt. Rushmore site.

    It was bound to happen.

With typical overstatement, the president said as he announced U.S. participation in the Declaration, “The aspiration it affirms, including respect for the institutions and rich cultures of native peoples, are ones we must always seek to fulfill.”

If by cleared the shark you mean resting firmly in it’s mouth impaled by it’s teeth, yes he has.

MURDOCK: Spacemen to NASA: Cool it on global warming
Astronauts, rocket scientists rebuke agency for climate alarmism

To the long list of right-wing, knuckle-dragging know nothings who dare question “global warming,” environmentalists can add six Apollo astronauts, two rocket men who flew aboard Skylab and a pair of former directors of the Johnson Space Center (JSC).

These veterans of America’s space program are among the 49 retired NASA employees who recently asked the agency to halt what they consider its unscientific advocacy of climate alarmism.

In a letter to NASA administrator Charles F. Bolden Jr., these rocket scientists, space explorers and other men and women of reason requested that “NASA and the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) refrain from including unproven remarks in public releases and websites.” They added: “We believe the claims by NASA and GISS, that man-made carbon dioxide is having a catastrophic impact on global climate change are not substantiated, especially when considering thousands of years of empirical data. With hundreds of well-known climate scientists and tens of thousands of other scientists publicly declaring their disbelief in the catastrophic forecasts, coming particularly from the GISS leadership, it is clear that the science is NOT settled.

“The unbridled advocacy of CO2 being the major cause of climate change is unbecoming of NASA’s history of making an objective assessment of all available scientific data prior to making decisions or public statements,” the March 28 letter continues.

“We feel that NASA’s advocacy of an extreme position, prior to a thorough study of the possible overwhelming impact of natural climate drivers is inappropriate,” the document concludes. “At risk is damage to the exemplary reputation of NASA, NASA’s current or former scientists and employees, and even the reputation of science itself.”

The letter’s signatories share at least 1,168 years of combined service to NASA. They include Gerald C. Griffin and Christopher C. Kraft Jr., both of whom ran the JSC; former Space Shuttle Program Director Leroy E. Day; Skylab astronauts Edward G. Gibson and Joseph P. Kerwin; and Apollo astronauts Philip K. Chapman, Walter Cunningham, Charles Duke, Richard Gordon (also a Gemini veteran), Harrison Schmitt and Al Worden.

Among these brave men, Mr. Duke and Mr. Schmitt walked on the moon and Mr. Gordon and Mr. Worden flew there without landing.

These serious names should retire the notion that skeptics of global warming are either mindless mouth-breathers or corporate shills who challenge “settled” climate science so big business may molest Mother Earth.

Until this year’s AWOL winter in America (and a simultaneous deep freeze in much of Europe) satellites have observed global temperatures remaining below levels measured in 2000. Even if the past 11 years of cooling mask a deeper warming, skeptics like these NASA alumni point to natural -- rather than man-made -- causes for such phenomena.

“I think the climate has been changing for billions of years,” said Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the moon, to London’s DailyTelegraph. “If it’s warming now, it may cool off later. I’m not in favor of just taking short-term isolated situations and depleting our resources to keep our climate just the way it is today. I’m not necessarily of the school that we [humans] are causing it all. I think the world is causing it.”

Finally, even if temperatures are rising dangerously, and if humans can do something about it, surely we can improve upon the typically high-cost, low-benefit approach of big government. The European Union is spending $250 billion through 2020 to reduce carbon dioxide 20 percent below 1990 levels. By 2100, this is expected to reduce temperatures by a whopping 0.09 degrees Fahrenheit. This is like renting an 18-wheel truck to ship an egg from San Diego to Boston.

The chorus of skeptics who scoff at such “solutions” now has expanded by nearly 50 voices. They deserve respect and attention. The pro-warming crowd will find it difficult to dismiss as flat-earthers these patriots who have orbited this planet, as well as those who sent them to outer space and brought them safely home.

Yeah, I saw that on the DoD.
I don’t think that Johnson has bottomed

Great report on the next POTUS Mr. Judd! As a current West Virginian by way of Florida, I have to adress the one slight error in your statement, “WV does not contain one liter of oil or gas”. In reality WV has always been in the Oil and Gas industry. Sisterville (yeah I know a podunk out of the way place)was a leader in the oil and gas industry in the 1950′s (and the same area was big into hemp for rope during WWII) and right now there are a lot of permits for drilling Marcellus and Utica wells. Coal is big in the southern part of the State but Oil and Gas are big in the north! I own a small piece of land right across the river in Ohio and recently leased the mineral rights for Marcellus wells a lot of money is coming into the area from oil and Gas! So much so that Natural gas prices dropped from 8 dollars per mmcf to 2.35 per mmcf! Our Marxist in command has actually tried to stop this through the EPA but being private land, WV and Ohio has basicially told them to go pound sand! Oh and by the way there are more millionares in WV, per capita, than any other state! Also in WV it is mostly feast or famine we also have the 4th highest below poverty level in the US.
