Turkey reported that Israeli Jets violated the airspace over occupied Northern Cyprus. This is pure audacity from the Turks since this area is occupied by Turkish troops. It rightfully belongs to Israel’s ally the government of Cyprus.

(Reuters) – Turkey said on Thursday it had scrambled military jets to intercept an Israeli plane that violated northern Cypriot airspace this week, and demanded an explanation for the incursion.

An Israeli military spokesman declined to comment on the accusation. But the incident marked a fresh source of tension between the former allies.

[....]

A plane belonging to Israel, the model of which could not be identified, violated KKTC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) airspace (above its territorial waters) five times,” the Turkish military said in a statement posted on its website.

Turkey has no business on Cyprus.

Play nice!

“an explanation for the incursion”? That’s a larf. I’m sure the others here would have a number of suggestions, but I got a few, until someone funnier shows up -

    * Don’t mind us; we were just scouting for future sites for archaeological digs… in this case, “bombed-out Turkish bases on Cyprus”
    * Oops, got lost there for a moment; we thought we were checkin’ out YOUR MOM NAKED
    * Because fuck you, that’s why

The Greek Cypriots are hard right. Maybe Chucky will come out in favor of the Turks.

    I’m meandering tonight.

    @ Speranza:

The Israelis don’t deny it and there are reports they are allowed to use Cypriot bases to protect Israeli and Cypriot oil fields.. Its very possible this is true.
