Citing her Catholic faith and opposition to gay marriage, Jo Ann Nardelli of Blair County,PA, has switched her party affiliation from democrat to republican. Nardelli, is a state committeewoman and was the founder and president of the Blair County Federation of Women.
During a press conference last week, Nardelli cited President Obama’s recent announcement in support of gay marriage as a central reason for her defection, endorsed Mitt Romney for president and changed her party registration to Republican, The Altoona Mirror reported.
“As the Democratic Party has taken the stand for same-sex marriage, then I must make a stand on my faith that marriage is between a man and a woman. God’s principles for life never change. His guidelines, given in Scripture, produce fruitful lives when you follow them,” Nardelli, a pro-life Democrat for more than 40 years, said at the Blair County Courthouse.
According to Politics PA, Nardelli continued to point to her Catholic faith as a major motivator in her letter of resignation to the Pennsylvania Democratic Party.
“I respect all of you and all that I have achieved in the past. Due to personal matters and faith beliefs at this time, it is only fair to resign,” she wrote. “I will miss you all very much as you are all a part of my family; however, it is time to move forward with my life in a direction that is more in line with my faith.”
The Mirror added that Blair County Republican Party Chairman A.C. Stickel welcomed Nardelli. Stickel emphasized Obama’s, and the Democratic Party’s, disconnect with blue collar values as a big part of the story.
“She says the president has pandered to left wing ideological interests. She said that his recent flip-flop on gay marriage was the last straw for her,” Stickel said.
I hope that Ms. Nardelli’s rejection of Obamunism will serve as an example to other conservative democrats who have found that the democrat party has totally rejected traditional American values.
Ms. Nardelli’s switch to the GOP is also covered in this article.

Outstanding! I would sure like to see more of these high profile defections from the dems.
What ever the reason, these high profile rejections are the beginnings of the damn bursting. One or two at first, we’ve seen already individual states vote in large numbers for convicted felons and none of the above. The coalition of the anointed Zero is beginning to fall apart. Consumer Confidence is, “unexpectedly,” horrid again this month. The Zero is getting skunked by a landslide which will make Walter Mondale’s thumping seem like a razor thin defeat in retrospect.
As my sister the idiotically liberal said on that first Wednesday in November of 1984, “this is terrible, Ronald Reagan thinks he has a mandate to proceed with his policies now.” Since that day, I have always greeted her with the phrase, the great 48 state non mandate. November of 2012 will bring similar tidings. Romney better use it to roll back the three decades of liberalism since Reagan, and then keep going.
the dem party in PA is more like Ed Rendel than Obama.
The democRATS will label her as the new “Blair Witch” and lump her with Christine O’Donnell…Just proves there are “Good Witches” and “Bad Witches” {Pelosi, del Laurio, Wassermann-Schultz, Jackson-Lee, Waters, Boxer, Feinstein, Hillary et alia}. “Toto, we DEFINITELY are not in Kansas anymore!”
