Think you know everything about the whole Rathergate affair? Yeah, I did too. You’ll be surprised to learn that things didn’t really go down the way we all thought they did. Our very own Carolina Girl is co-hosting the show tonight with Rodan and Savage. Let’s give her and her special guest a good Blogmocracy welcome!

So, what do you guys think of those Pre-Harappan mega cities found in the middle of the Gulf of Kutch? Larger in size then NYC. Population estimated to be between 900,000 and 1 million. Well, they were more advanced at the time than we thought, but they probably weren’t as advanced as we are now, or they would have been able to predict and plan for the end of the last ice age, which probably wiped out at least that city when massive glacier bound lakes in the Himalayas were set free by glacial melt to wash the place into the sea.

There is the mystery of Mohenjo-daro and what Dorian linked to. There is ample evidence that Humanity was very advanced in the past. A cataclysm happened and humanity started over after the Ice Age.

Not really it’s more likely that the mythical City of Krishna was based on the civilization that built that city though. While the evidence is coming in slowly what does seem to be indicated is that their was a world wide level of civilization during the last ice-age that basically was submerged when the ice-age ended and the oceans rose some 500 feet.

The pre-Indus Valley Civilization for example appears to have retreated inland away from the Ocean as the Ocean levels rose and their cities were submerged. Japan’s Yonaguni-Jima, also submerged at approximately the same time and Cuba’s underwater lost city and of course Atlantis all seem to have been perched on the ends of the antediluvian plains.

Well, then I guess the Indians have won their debate with the Chinese over who has an older civilization.
It also confirms that there was an Ancient Advanced civilization.

I seriously doubt that their was any cataclysmic flood per say, but a very significant rise in the Ocean’s sea level that probably took place over several decades. I say this because the evidence from the mega cities in the Gulf of Kutch is that they apparently attempted to build sea walls to keep the rising water out. These are huge walls 40 or 50 feet tall running for dozens of miles. They knew the water was rising and tried to delay it’s submerging their city.

    @ Bunk X:
What I meant was, they probably kept a record of who screwed whom and who owed whom for the screwing.

    @ Bunk X:

It was not advance like us, but more advanced than what came after.

Hence the legend of a flood or sinking of Atlantis. There definitely was some Catastrophic event 7,000 -- 10,000 years ago that set humanity back.

I don’t doubt that there were “advanced” civilizations that vanished without a trace. All we have to go on are those societies that kept some form of records. For all we know, the elder elders wrote volumes on their arms and legs with henna.

There are some suggestions that the Hindu Veda’s are exactly that, an attempt my the pre-Indus Valley Civilization to maintain a record of their civilization in spoken form.

While all indications are that the pre-Indus Valley Civilization did in fact have a written language, it seems evident that in the mad rush to avoid being submerged or for what ever other reason, the knowledge of that language was lost. There are plenty of artifacts with that written language on it, just nobody knows how to translate it.

Sanskirt is a direct descendant of that language. The Mahabharata and Ramanya are the historical tales of that previous advanced civilization.

Like I said, I seriously doubt it was a Catastrophic event, it was something that they saw coming, there was just nothing they could do about it. Their cities were gigantic and had taken thousands of years to build. They had an advanced technology to be sure, advanced in the sense that Egypt or Rome were advanced, but not advanced in the sense that they had not developed a mechanized or industrialized civilization.

Related, is that poetry was invented as a mnemonic device to ensure future generations would have no idea what a “ring o’ rosies” meant.

Oh, and “sanskirt” is the creation of the pron industry. It’s Latin.

Maybe the spoken languages are related, but definitely not the written languages. The written language looks to my untrained eye like a combination of ancient Nordic Runes and Egyptian Hieroglyphs.

Looks a bit like Sumerian cuneiform as well.

The Harappan Civilization, which followed the pre-Indus Valley Civilization, and are most likely the descendants of the pre-Indus Valley Civilization, had a civilization that covered over 1 million square miles of territory. They were eventually conquered by the Aryan/Persians.

What does not seem to be in doubt though is that the pre-Indus Valley Civilization was a maritime merchant civilization that most likely had merchant contact with the early Sumerian Civilization. Though the pre-Indus Valley Civilization was already a fully mature civilization while the Sumerian and Mesopotamian Civilizations were very young civilizations.

My uneducated guess is that the pre-Indus Valley Civilizations written language influenced the other later civilizations written languages. Which is why there seem to be resemblances to the characters in the pre-Indus Valley Civilizations written languages to languages we know more about today.

Could have been. We still haven’t translated the Elamites’ first two go-’rounds with the literacy thing. And various linguists are trying to link the third Elamite language (which we CAN read) with the Harappans with the Dravidians (which is still spoken in India).

If we can ever read the first Elamite languages, maybe some of these questions will get answered…

Well their certainly does seem to be a resemblance to the first Elamite languages and the pre-Indus Valley Civilizations written language. Given that the earliest Elamite languages are from around 2600 BC and the pre-Indus Valley Civilization cities found in the Gulf of Kutch are from around 7500 BC or very probably far earlier 9500 BC to maybe 12,000 BC my guess is that the first Elamite languages were likely also influenced by the pre-Indus Valley civilization.
