Alec Baldwin really considering NYC Mayor Run

by Rodan ( 213 Comments › )
Filed under Democratic Party, Progressives at July 5th, 2012 - 12:00 pm

With the exception of Ronald Reagan and Sonny Bono, celebrities and politics don’t mix. Alec Baldwin had for years been considering a run for New York City Mayor. He recently said he was not interested. Well that has changed again.

Billy Baldwin is saying that his brother Alec is really seriously considering a run for NYC Mayor. People should not laugh at this. Baldwin could mount a serious run. He has name recognition and money. NYC politically fits well for him.  Mayor Baldwin could be a reality.

Alec Baldwin’s flirtation with a possible run for New York mayor may not be just for show.

That’s according to his little brother Billy, who said in an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan on Tuesday night that the “30 Rock” star’s on-and-off political aspirations could actually be “very real.”

“I think on one level it’s very real. I think he’s very committed and extremely bright and knowledgeable and I think he could do it and he could run,” Billy Baldwin said
Alec Baldwin makes Bloomberg look like a tolerant open minded person. Alec Baldwin is an unstable control freak. Hopefully this is just talk, but should this materialize into reality, I hope New Yorkers reject him.

The scary thing is that thousands of New Yorkers would actually vote for him.

As far as I’m concerned, New Yorkers deserve whatever they get.

These are the same people who voted for Bloomberg 3 times, after all.

I know his name, but I can’t remember seeing him in anything.

    @ Mike C.:

His most recent role was as the owner of a Hollywood bar in the movie version of Rock of Ages.

    Aging ’80s rocker isn’t a good look for him…

The scary thing is that tens of thousands of NY kers would vote for him. But it would be entertaining to watch a Mayor of NY city go bat shi* crazy at news conferences.

  7. 7 | July 5, 2012 12:33 pm

    @ lobo91:

Bloomberg was the lesser of evils. His opponent was a Marxist. Rudy Giuliani’s are a rarity in NY politics.

Every part I can remember Alec Baldwin playing is that of an off-balance narcissist. His artistic range seems to be limited by his actual personality.

Maybe you should familiarize yourself with NYC politics. Bloomberg’s opponents were City Council President Mark Green (2001), Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer (2005), and City Comptroller Bill Thompson (2009) -- all three made Bloomberg seem like Ronald Reagan -- and Bloomberg actually was not a bad mayor for his first six years.

  15. 15 | July 5, 2012 12:44 pm

    @ Speranza:

Like I said, Bloomberg’s opponent where Marxists. Its just like the Presidential election, we are stuck with a Liberal like Romney and the only reason anyone is voting for him is because his opponent is Obama. Its the same dynamic as NYC. Bloomberg is better than the Marxists.

Bloomberg was the best of a bad choice. In 2001 I actually was a Herman Badillo (a former Democratic Bronx Borough President who switched parties to the GOP) supporter.

  17. 17 | July 5, 2012 12:46 pm

I liked Herman Badillo a lot. Fernando Ferrer was a complete union stooge and Mark Green not much better. Bill Thompson was just merely incompetent, another David Dinkins.

The guy really does have some psychological issues. Hollywood had always had a larger proportion of people who, were they not rich and famous, would be institutionalized in some form.

The “1%” that people should actually be rising up against are out-of-control actors and professional athletes; they regularly flout laws in ways that would land anyone else in prison.

What about nationally? We have a Liberal like Romney vs. the Marxist Obama. You have the same dynamic.

The only Conservative elected the in recent times was Ronald Reagan. What you say about NYC applies to the whole country.

  23. 23 | July 5, 2012 12:50 pm

Badillo was a Giuliani Conservative. He would have been a good follow up.

My point is that if the choice is between a very flawed Bloomberg and a completely unacceptable Fernando Ferrer (who wanted pretty much to destroy Wall Street), I know where I am going to vote. If you want to say that the political culture in NY and California is warped I will not disagree.

You can say the same about the whole country. Look at the Presidential race: Romney (Progressive) vs. Obama (Marxist). NY is just a symptom of a larger problem in American politics. The Electorate in both parties want goodies and actually like the State lording over them.

Egypt: Copts Declare Launch Of “Christian Brotherhood” To Combat Muslim Brotherhood And Other Islamist Political Factions…

Some rare good news coming from Egypt.

(Al Arabiya) — A group of Coptic activists in Egypt announced the establishment of the Christian Brotherhood to counter the growing influence of the Muslim Brotherhood especially after their candidate Mohammed Mursi won the presidential elections.

The idea was first initiated in 2005 by lawyer Mamdouh Nakhla, head of al-Kalema Center for Human Rights, and political analyst Michel Fahmi. It was then adopted by Amir Ayad, member of the Maspero Youths Union for Free Copts, the group established after clashes with military forces in front of the TV building in the Cairo district of Maspero left more than 20 Copts dead.

The Christian Brotherhood has branches in 16 governorates in Egypt as well as four branches outside Egypt, three in Europe and one in Australia.

“The idea started in 2005 with the rise of Islamist groups, but it had not been put to action since then,” Michel Fahmi told Al Arabiya in a phone interview.

Fahmi explained that it was the victory of Muslim Brotherhood candidate presidential elections that necessitated taking steps towards creating the new Brotherhood.

I know we pay our fair share of taxes…but you also have to consider people who don’t have jobs can’t pay taxes….and they would willingly pay their fair share just to have a job. I’m not talking about the welfare people and some of them are in dire straits…it is the ones that abuse the system that needs to be weeded out and that is the greatest part of the pie on that.

For those interested in aa a-rab spring update for something O/T, here is a Raymond Ibrahim article about a sex-slave marriage in Egypt that has sparked debate between the agents of darkness (islam) there.

    Egypt’s First “Sex-Slave” Marriage

Last Monday, on the Egyptian TV show Al Haqiqa (“the Truth”), journalist Wael al-Ibrashi began the program by airing a video-clip of a man, Abd al-Rauf Awn, “marrying” his “slave.” Before making the woman, who had a non-Egyptian accent, repeat the Koran’s Surat al-Ikhlas after him, instead of saying the customary “I marry myself to you,” the woman said “I enslave myself to you,” and kissed him in front of an applauding audience.

Then, even though she was wearing a hijab, her owner-husband declared her forbidden from such trappings, commanding her to be stripped of them, so as “not to break Allah’s laws.” She took her veil and abaya off, revealing, certainly by Muslim standards, a promiscuous red dress (all the other women present were veiled). The man claps for her as the video-clip (which can be viewed here) ends.

The owner-husband, Abd al-Rauf Awn, then appeared on the show, identifying himself as an Islamic scholar and expert at Islamic jurisprudence who studied at Al Azhar. He gave several Islamic explanations to justify his “marriage,” from Islamic prophet Muhammad’s “sunna” or practice of “marrying” enslaved captive women, to Koran 4:3, which commands Muslim men to “Marry such women as seem good to you, two and three and four… or what your right hands possess.”

For all practical purposes, and to avoid euphemisms, “what your right hands possess”—also known in Arabic as a melk al-yamin—is, according to Islamic doctrine and history, simply a sex-slave. Linguistic evidence further suggests that she is seen more as a possession than a human.

    Then there is this:

Awn further explained that sex-slave marriage is ideal for today’s Egyptian society. He based his position on ijtihad, a recognized form of jurisprudence, whereby a Muslim scholar comes up with a new idea—one that is still rooted in the Koran and example of Muhammad—yet one that better fits the circumstances of contemporary society.

He argued that, when it comes to marriage, “we Muslims have overly complicated things,” so that men are often forced to be single throughout their prime, finally getting married between the ages of 30-40 (when they might be expected to have a sufficient income to open a household). Similarly, many Egyptian women do not want to wear the hijab in public.

See what he did? Sex slavery is a kinder more gentle side of sharia. McLame and Miss Lindsey and the others supporting the a-rab spring should be so proud!

He is absolutely injecting the grabbermint into religious expression.

Catholics are not the only targets of such lawfare. Consider laws against circumcision. They effectively make illegal a basic Jewish practice. San Francisco and Satna Monica have tried to pass laws banning it. I believe those attempts were blocked at the state level. Cologne Germany is enforcing a law against circumcision. I believe Norway either has or is working on a law too.

Not sure how, but of course muslims will either be exempted or the law will simply not be enforced against them. It would be racist to target their religious practices. /

We are close enough in age. I had thought so too, but to tell you the truth I had not given it much more thought than it being a basic symbol of entering into G-d’s covenant. Until recently when I started hearing about these law’s to outlaw it.

Not I think as is understood in the western sense. The muzz make a big deal about how charity is sooooo important to islam. That is zakat. Also a feature of sharia compliant loans is zakat. However this charity is often not use to help muslims but to spread isalm. zakat helps finance jihad and mousks. It’s been out of the new for a while, but remember that when some info-tainer from the MFM talks about sharia finance, or some banker is crowing about their bank’s multi-culty bonafides if they talk about sharia compliant loans.

My muslim sister in-law has some kind of sharia complient mortgage on her house. I am not the sharpest tack in the drawer, nor the dullest, but they could not explain to us how their mortgage worked. Not that they are dumb either, both holding PHDs. My sister in-law used to teach at the University of OK, so I would expect her to have some skills a communication. Seemed very fishy to me.

that’s splitting hairs…I’m not accusing anybody here of supporting CC peds…it’s an internal church mess that they made for themselves and their followers are justifiably blown away…I can’t believe I have to clarify this for you…if you are the Pope then bow before Heysoos and beg forgiveness for your sins

This has been beefed up…what about peds in the school system. Peds always try to go were children are in plenty. I HAVE NEVER HAD A PRIEST ABUSE ME OR OTHER WISE. They are the exception not the rule. If you can’t understand that…I don’t know what to tell you.

the schools do not invent and define sin…and of course peds are the exception, I’ve never doubted that all priests are peds, but the ones that are have been guarded and protected by the Pope…or it sure seems that way

Lily, we had one parish priest who did NOT take the vow of poverty. His family was loaded and he used that money to make improvements to the parish. He bought these wonderful big statues to use for the Nativity scene on the church front lawn. He used his money to buy the things needed for a church bazaar he started. The whole town enjoyed the bazaar. It brought funds into the church and into the community. THAT is what a parish is all about IMO..serving everyone, not just those who share your faith.
