Saturday At The Movies! Taxmageddon Edition.

So, on the one hand Barack Obama is out there blaming the sky’s color on George W. Bush, and on the other hand he is taking claim for keeping those same tax rates, (which have been in place for over a decade now,) as his tax cuts.

Take-a-way quote, “I know that private enterprise is sitting on tons of capital, tons of cash, just waiting for those idiots in Washington to take their foot off of the brakes.”

Thomas DiLorenzo explains the differences between Mercantilism and Capitalism, which some of you may know under different names, crony capitalism and the free market price system. Often times while debating folks from the left, they’ll compare the results often achieved by the free market system with Perfection, and declare that since the system I advocate is not indeed Utopia exemplified, it must be abolished for their system, all the while never holding their results to the same standard. The results of those nations who did inflict Socialism and or Marxism upon their populace are indeed replete with the very results that they claim to abhor. This is when the blinders and the rose tinted glasses seem to be put on their faces. The power to lie to oneself is far more damaging than when those lies are told to others.

The Goose That Laid The Golden Eggs

“A cottager and his wife had a Hen that laid a golden egg every day. They supposed that the Hen must contain a great lump of gold in its inside, and in order to get the gold they killed it. Having done so, they found to their surprise that the Hen differed in no respect from their other hens. The foolish pair, thus hoping to become rich all at once, deprived themselves of the gain of which they were assured day by day.”

The liberal/socialist model is so farcical that it was the subject of an Aesop fable 1,500 years ago.

Here is a joke sure to make you groan, but I guarantee that
if you have small children or grandchildren, they will love
    it.

There were three brother rabbits, Foot, Foot Foot & Foot
    Foot Foot.
One morning Foot Foot went over to his brother Foot’s
    house.
Noone answered the door so Foot Foot let himsel in &
went into little brother Foot’s bedroom where Foot Foot
    found Foot dead.
Foot Foot hurried over to Foot Foot Foots house to give him
    the bad news.
Foot Foot knocked on the door & Foot Foot opened it.
    “Hi Foot Foot.”
“Foot Foot Foot I have bad news, our little brother Foot
    is dead.”
Fooot Foot Foot said , “We have to be very careful now
    Foot Foot.”
“Why is that Foot Foot Foot?”
“Because Foot Foot, we already have one Foot in the grave.”

Told you that you would groan.

FN is, of course, a fine manufacturer of quality arms. But 5.7X28 mm? Where do you buy that ammo (not on LuckyGunner.com) and how much does it cost per round? For that matter, how much does that gun cost? Those are important questions to consider. OTOH, Maj. Nidal Hasan killed 13 people with that exact pistol at Ft. Hood, so it obviously does work. Me, I’d stick with common (and less expensive_ calibers.

My Beretta 92 FS will hold 16+1 rounds, and they make a polymer-frame pistol (the PX-4 Storm) that will do the same, so you’re not gaining a lot of capacity with that 5.6X28. And 9 mm is the most common centerfire ammo sold in the US -- widely available and relatively cheap compared to anything other than a .22 rimfire.

no not a short window (i roll my own btw) controlling the means of production is the capitalist way… there are probably more guns than people in this country. look at micky D’s original business model. give the burger away charge up the ass for drinks & fries. shit if I was the CEO of Ford I would buy as many refineries as I could and give the cars away.

Whenever a contractor for a deck, landscaping or a sprinkler system is giving me a bid, they always ask “how much do you want to spend?” That is code for “how much money do you have?” I always respond to that question “Oh, is this going to cost me something?”

That Ruger Speed Six I temporarily owned was purtier than that. No gold plating, but full Class B engraving, with a miniature brass VA State Trooper’s badge inletted on the left side of the frame. Never fired, and probably never will be. I certainly wasn’t going to fire it, which is why I sold it. Pity -- it was a nice handling piece… And if it had been in the rather rare 9 mm, I would have kept it anyway, but it was a .357 magnum.

ADDENDUM -- And a month or so ago, I ran across another of the VA State Police commemerative Speed Six pieces when a guy on the Ruger Collector’s website asked me to put him in touch with the collector that bought mine. There were 850 of them made, so mine sure wasn’t unique. Mine went to a guy that actually works for the VA State Police and who collects their limited edition guns, so at least I know it went someplace where it is appreciated. That beats sitting in a cabinet or drawer in my place.

  133. 134 | July 14, 2012 8:20 pm

    @ huckfunn:

I bought it from a friend of the older daughter’s who just wanted it out of her house. She got it in the divorce from her ex, who was a former Trooper -- he had two of them. She had no sentimental attachment to it, knew jack about guns, and probably would have sold it at a yard sale for the first $ 100 bill that came along. I couldn’t stand that, so I bought it for a fair price. But I always intended to pass it along to a collector rather than keep it. I have to spend my few gun bucks on shooters, not cabinet queens. I remitted the difference between my buying and selling price to the lady I bought it from, so I didn’t make a dime off the deal. I’m not a gun dealer, after all. But I did own it for a little while, so that’s a memory.

I have a similar story but it went the other way. When my father-in-law died, my wife and I went up to Columbus OH for the funeral. He had some war trophies that he had brought back from Germany including a Mauser 98K (Anberg 1917), a big Nazi banner and Walther PPK in the holster in A-1 condition. We brought back the banner and the Mauser and a few other items. I don’t remember why I didn’t bring back the Walther. At any rate, my wife’s only sister and husband are the kind of folks who are just not comfy around guns. She saw an ad in the Columbus paper that the Columbus PD would give $25 to anyone turning in old guns. And you know the rest of the story

    Good evening.

Since I see people are talking about guns, for those of you who are or are planning on getting involved with your local Republican Party, please mention that UN Arms treaty that will try to implement gun control at the Global level. We have to make our precinct committeeman and Country GOpers aware of this so they can tell the Congressman who represent us.

    Get the word out people!

the way I see it the founders gave us the right to bare arms to protect us from the UN… they need to GO HOME

It takes a 2/3 vote in the Senate to ratify a treaty with a foreign power so it ain’t gonna happen. No way this thing gets 67 votes. However, keep in mind the people who vote for it if it’s presented in the Senate. Also be very aware of who is supporting it. Obama, H. Clinton, Holder and the usual Marxists. The ATT is a clear attempt to nullify the 2nd Amendment and subordinate U.S. sovereignty to a foreign power.

Last year 44 Senators sent a letter to Obama and Clinton stating that they would oppose the ATT. I linked to that letter in a post last week but I cant find it now. 44 Senators against it means it won’t happen. I think a more recent letter is signed by 58 Senators. Here’s a letter in opposition signed by 137 members of Congress and dated 6/29/2012. But your point is well taken. We are being ruled by a lawless president who will go around the courts and the Congress whenever he pleases.

Yep. Such a law, and any support of it, is utterly contrary to the oath of office taken by the president, the cabinet and members of Congress. I had a post on this last week.

Stuff like this makes it that much easier, IMHO.

Obama Mocks Rich: ‘You Didn’t Get There On Your Own’

The mask is not only off, it’s being trampled. Yet still, there are folks like this that will lead the lemmings…

The president of the United Steelworkers called November’s presidential election the most important in 80 years to the future of labor unions in America.

Leo Gerard, speaking in Homestead on Saturday, said ballooning corporate money in politics threatens to overwhelm the voice of organized labor and only a strong showing at the polls from union members will force lawmakers to address the campaign financing issue.

“In 10 years, without a change in campaign finance … we will lose the right to bargain collectively,” he said.

Notice NONE of these union leaders ever seem to mention THEIR industries specifically, but rather UNIONS themselves. It’s almost like they’re entirely disconnected, and they are completely in self-preservation mode.

Like Obama’s been GREAT for the American steel industry or something. Last I checked, coal was pretty darn important for that.

Good news! Ron Paul’s Delegate Insurgency Ends in Nebraska

Supporters of the libertarian GOP presidential candidate fell short at the Nebraska GOP convention, where they had hoped to out-organize Mitt Romney’s delegates and push Paul over a critical threshold that would have ensured him an official presence and speaking slot at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., in August.
As the last state where Republicans will hold a convention in which delegates are up for grabs, Nebraska represented the last chance for Paul’s supporters.

Yep. We likes our football. We went to the 1987 Cotton Bowl with her folks. Ohio State beat my Aggies 28-14. Mrs. Funn doesn’t really give a rip about football, but I have all my enthusiasm plus hers.

Yippee! I’m more of a college ball fan but I’ll watch the NFL. The summer months are the hardest. I can’t get excited about “futball” or baseball. I will watch the baseball playoffs if the Rangers or Astros are in it.

Doesn’t really matter all that much now because the damage is already done. Back in May during Minnesota’s state GOP convention the state GOP-e was so hard at work trying to keep the TEA party candidate for the U.S. Senate from winning the nomination that the candidate from Planet Ronulin slipped past both of them and got the nomination. There will be little good news from Minnesota this November.
