seriously.
@ Lily:
Remember a week or so ago I was telling you about the 150 yo oak tree that the largest branch came down during a storm? Well last night I discovered that the actual tree has died. I am sooo sad. And to add insult to injury, the tree removal guy just left and the quote to get it taken down and removed is $900.

This tree is huge. I’ll send you a pic of just the branch that came down. It is almost three stories tall. Hubby is standing under it for perspective. Houses are also a concern (with regards to neighborhood tree falling skills). LOL.
We just can’t have this tree fall on its own. We had one large pine fall and hit one neighbors house, one week later the oak branch came down and damaged the other neighbors storage shed and one week after that my MIL totalled one of our vehicles and it was a he said/she said (no tickets) but did damage to a 3rd party vehicle. (MIL fine)
Three hits on our insurance in less than a month.
@ Dolphin:
Yeah you can’t leave dead trees down here. I hate to see one go myself…but sometimes you have to do it.
@ Dolphin:
Gosh {Dolphin} when it rains it pours doesn’t it?
July hasn’t been all that kind to me either.
I added a video of Screwy Louie praising Church of Scientology.

Nope. I am more upset about loosing the tree than I am the money (I think). It was a beautiful, magestic creature. It was one of the main things we fell in love with when we purchased this house. I blame the drought mainly. We were warned -- when a tree is dying, you may not know it for a year or two, but when the go, they go fast. That has been the case with all around here. That and the severe storms.
@ Lily:
I honestly think it is because of the grown adults in this house won’t STFU and interrupt my train of thought. I need some headphones. lol
@ Dolphin:
Last year the drought…have you been getting those severe thunderstorms this month like we have?
@ Dolphin:
Ugh, sorry to hear that. Those old oaks are beautiful.
Have it cut up properly and have some nice furniture or boxes made from it.
@ NoThreat2U:
Too bad you aren’t closer…son has some for computer that I never use. Very quiet in my house. Just me and older son most the day and when hubby gets home still quiet. The noisy son moved out years ago. A bull in a China closet he is and noisy friends too.
@ Lily:
@ Lily:
I do have the noisy dog of my hubby’s…but if UPS of Fedex doesn’t drive by he is quiet….all those trucks have to do is drive by and he goes into fits. But the garbage truck is a-okay with the little crazy dog.
@ Dolphin:
So sorry to hear that. I have a (what I think is ) a cherry blossom tree out in the corner of the yard. When it blooms it is simply gorgeous. The petals fall off and it looks like snow. It is all twisted around itself. Wonderful tree. One branch is literally holding up another branch. lol I wont take it down though. There is also a hole in it that is always filled with sandy tree dust. I just love this tree.
@ Calo:
{{{Calo}}}}!!!! How are you doing?
@ NoThreat2U:
Got beautiful oak trees down here with even moss hanging on them.
@ Lily:
They never have anything to say until i am groovin on the net. THAT is the part that pisses me off. If I signed off here right now, they would all disappear. lol
@ NoThreat2U:
Sounds about right.
@ NoThreat2U:
Now oldest son will come down from upstairs right when I start watching a movie to talk. If I’m on the net he doesn’t even bother.
He is a computer geek so he knows he’ll only get half my attention. I’ll stop the movie for him though!
@ Lily:
I have a mental view of what Louisiana looks like from reading too many Anne Rice novels. She sure does capture the atmosphere.
@ Lily:
Yes, we had a small tornado come through the neighborhood that brought our pine tree down along with 10+ others in our neck of the neighborhood. We think that storm may have damaged/weakened the oak branch, but had another sever storm come though when it came down, so who knows.

Guns and Chick-Fil-A a matter of trust
I have heard a lot of people on the left self righteously complain that conservatives are unwilling to agree to “common sense gun control” that we are unreasonable fanatics who would oppose restrictions on the ownership of Sherman Tanks.
Most of all; we are totally wrong to believe that the left is after our guns just because of the proposed assault weapon ban.
Why would we have such a belief, how can the folks on the right even think we on the left are after their guns, all their guns?
The answer: Chick-Fil-A
Twenty years ago there was nobody NOBODY nationally who was pushing the idea of gay marriage. If Bill Clinton had come out for Gay Marriage in 1992 he would have lost 49 states.
We have reached the point from the legality of Gay Marriage in Massachusetts, to the Mayor of the largest city in the Commonwealth publicly declaring in effect: If your business dare oppose the liberal politically correct position , your enterprise doesn’t belong in our enlightened city.
This has happened in the space of a decade, after being assured that “Gay Marriage” would have no effect on anyone else.
So when you on the left tell us, assure us, and promise us that if we on the right agree to just a little bit of Gun Control, you have our word that we have no designs on your personal firearms or anything else, you’ll pardon us for declaring:
You Lie!
If we are stupid enough to believe you on gun control then we deserve to lose the rights we are fighting to defend.

Here’s a great Chic Fil-A story. Pics posted by customers show full dining rooms and drive-up lanes chock-full. Also, check the comments. Wish they were a public company. Chic Fil-A is as American as Obama and Rahmbo are un-American.
On the guns side, Sturm-Ruger is public company. I bought in on Monday and my shares are up almost 10% in one week on gun control worries. One can make a consistent living on proggie haters.

Olympic opening ceremony grapples with weighty issues
(AFP) – 4 hours ago
LONDON — A celebration of free healthcare, the trade union struggle, the battle for women’s rights and a fleeting lesbian kiss: the Olympics opening ceremony Friday did not shy away from weighty social issues.
Unsurprisingly, the show devised by Oscar-winning British director Danny Boyle drew accusations from the British political right that it had strayed into “leftie” issues.
Aidan Burley, a lawmaker from Prime Minister David Cameron’s ruling Conservative party, tweeted: “The most leftie opening ceremony I have ever seen — more than Beijing, the capital of a communist state! Welfare tribute next?”
He followed that with: “Thank God the athletes have arrived! Now we can move on from leftie multi-cultural crap.”
Several people tweeted their support for his comments.

No you aren’t. You know I’m a collector …. some have different things that work for them. Problem is my back can’t handle some of the most awesome shoes anymore.

First thing I bought when I was 15 with my first paycheck…SHOES!!

Here it is Saturday 9:30 am so it must be Saturday 2:30 am in Texas. Right ?
I can’t stop buying shoes
I’ve about 150 pairs around and add about 40 pairs of boots and bootees.
I stay at home this weekend b’cause I’ve to do some work. But next weekend we’ll go probalbly to Weitra a medieval little city in Lower Austria which is still intact like hundred of years before because people were to poor to build new houses.
Hope you’ve a nice and relaxing weekend, Calo.
Well, I’ve got to get going. I have to go out to Arifjan and mail a box of stuff home, and then see if I can exchange some of the Kuwaiti (and fake American) money I’ve collected.
@ Lily:
Oh boy….
My poor kid -- the song fits Lily.
16 and her heart was broken. It’s so hard to watch.
Time for me to hit the bed. {{Calo}} {{Guggi}}
Hope your evening and day goes great!
@ Calo:
I know. It is very hard to watch. Even with sons. I hope she heals from this….lots of fish in the sea as they say.
@ Guggi:
No kidding Guggi? I am pitiful as I have about 25 pairs.
You’ll have to talk shoes with M sometime -- she loves them too.
Night ((Lily)) and ((Guggi))
See you tomorrow night/morning.

Problem is: I’ve no more space for my shoes
(I collect books and clothes as well -- just cleared my closets of about 140 (!) pairs of trouser and numerous jumpers and for every new outfit you need: new shoes
)
@ Calo:
Good Night, Calo !!
@ Calo:
Had my share when I was a teen of those broken hearts…guess that’s why I tend to like those type of songs. There are lots of cute boys out there….I’ll say prayers for her.
@ Guggi:
Before I go ….boy you sound like me!
@ Calo:
Nite {{Calo}} lights out for me too… nite again {{Guggi}}!
@ Guggi:
I married a Bertelsmann Boy -- I know about collecting books.

Dang, I missed lobo? Bummer. He is definitely in count-down mode. Moi aussie, as my flight lifts off at 2:30 AM Tuesday morning. I get 18 days back in civilization before coffee break’s over and it’s back on my head. I am out of practice at this Turd World routine, and it seems it’s harder to get it back as you get older. But I’m working on it.
Internet wasn’t connected when I woke the laptop up this morning, but a reboot found that the hotel back-up network was still connected, so I’m not completely screwed -- yet.
Good news that that stupid UN small arms treaty has stalled. Definitely have to do an ammo order in the next week. Also have to get to the range during this upcoming break. I don’t get to the range anywhere near often enough these days.
Caught a few minutes of the very much anti-British British opening ceremonies for the Olympics yesterday -- all the dignity of stomping rats at the town dump. I do not understand why these horrible sorts of things have become de riguer -- the annual Superbowl fiasco is the same damned thing.

That’s why I don’t watch it anymore. Imho it is embarrassing.
@ Mike C.:
Only Mr Bean delivered in what I saw of it
Didn’t happen to catch Atkinson’s bit, but did see that he was in it. I never think of him as Mr. Bean -- I think of him as The Black Adder. Which, unlike that Mr. Bean show, was absolutely brilliant (as the Brits would say.)
These modern productions creep closer and closer to something that looks more like it was produced by North Korea…
Good morning. I missed most of the Olympic Opening Ceremony.
I do know that the Committee refused a moment of silence
for the Israelis slaughtred in the Olympic ,fourty
years ago to the day.
There were lots of Muslim counties parading , many wearing
hijabs.
I guess they just didn’t want to violate Muslim senseabilities.
Pricks!
@ Mike C.:
I didn’t see it, but they were talking about it on the BBC during my trip back from Arifjan just now.
Everyone who called in seemed to think it was the greatest thing ever.
Of course, who knows what sort of call screening they do…
@ lobo91:
But they did honor the victims of the London subway bombing,
as was appropriate.
Not honoring the slaughtered Israeli Olympians seems very
pointed.
@ lobo91:
Feh.
How many days left?

Says it all ,doesn’t it? The IOC is a bloated, corrupt
orgnization.
With the exception of the U.S Hockey team at Lake Placid,
I have never been crazy about the Olympics.
@ lobo91:
There is hardly a greater sight known to mankind than the sight of the Middle East in one’s rear view mirror, even if it is a virtual mirror…
Hello? Hello? (Tap, tap, tap…) Is this thing on?

OK, well this afternoon I am going to a birthday party for a friend who is battling cancer. Were going to play a little guitar, and celebrate that he has survived a year and looks like he may survive cancer altogether. If the admins want to post this as a thread here around non or so, please feel free.
Happy Birthday Thad.
@ doriangrey:

@ doriangrey:
Bravo! May Thad continue to win his battles and may a lovely time be had by all!
Oh, and here is a very interesting article. By the grace of god, may this please do to the gun regulation industry what MP3′s did to the music industry.

@ mawskrat:
Waste of money… A small nuke is ideal for destroying underground facilities. Or at least making them useless. Blow the entrances/exits shut. If they start to dig out the smoking, radioactive craters, why just rinse and repeat. Can be done with a cruise missile, so no risk to air crews.
If nobody can get into or out of the bunker, who gives a crap what’s in it or if it is destroyed?
