Remembering Marilyn Monroe

Fifty years ago today Marilyn Monroe died of a drug overdose at her Brentwood, California home. She would now be 86 years old had she lived. Beautiful and vivacious, she was loved by many and probably understood by none. There have been many imitators from Jayne Mansfield to Madonna to Lindsey Lohan, but there was only one Marilyn. Hugh Hefner attributes the success of Playboy Magazine to the nude photo shoot that he did of Marilyn in 1953.

Fittingly, TCM is running a series of her movies today. My favorite, Some Like it Hot, will be on at 7:00 PM.

Here is a Marilyn slide show thanks to The Daily Caller.

I remember when she died. She actually was pretty good actress. The Kennedy’s took advantage of her.

She was beautiful but nobody comes close? I have to disagree. Maureen O’Hara for one.

    @ Speranza:
Beauty is such a subjective topic… as “in the eyes of the beholder”. Indeed, O’Hara was a stunner. Amazing that she’s still alive. I looked at lots of pics of Marilyn before putting up the one that I did. There were the vampy, glamorous, sexy pics. My preferences are for cute and that’s why I chose the above pic. While Maureen O’Hara was a beautiful woman, her look is what I would call glamorous rather than cute.

    @ huckfunn:

I’ve seen O’Hara in the 1939 ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame’, with Charles Laughton. She’s 19, and looks incredible.

    Amen to that.
