Mitt Romney’s selection of Paul Ryan has done something not seen this election. For the first time since 2010, the Tea Party and Base Conservatives are extremely energized. With the selection of Ryan, Romney has sent a big signal. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, the GOP has a Center-Right Fiscal/Economic Conservative ticket.
The Human Events 2011 Conservative of the Year, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), will be announced this morning as Mitt Romney’s vice presidential running mate, according to early reports. Romney will formally announce his choice at a news conference this morning as early as 8:45 a.m.
Reaction from Republicans was swift — and enthusiastic.
“In choosing Paul Ryan, Gov. Romney is signaling he wants to change the course of government, not manage it. This is the start of an aggressive, ideas campaign!”
So said California’s Republican State Chairman Tom Del Beccaro Friday night, shortly after television news reports strongly suggesting that Romney was planning to name House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) as his vice presidential running mate Saturday morning. Del Beccaro was hosting a private party of fellow California GOP leaders in his suite at the Burbank Marriott here during the state Republican convention. To a person, the other party activists were genuinely excited about the 42-year-old Ryan’s selection, and all echoed their chairman’s confidence that this was a first step in what would be a campaign grounded in conservative ideas and change.
“I’m as grassroots as you can get and I’m thrilled about Ryan!” Alameda County GOP Vice Chairman Hugh Busell told Human Events, “He had the courage to say why we needed to eventually change the nature of entitlements such as Medicare, and he could explain it.”
Mitt Romney has turned his back on the Rockefeller/Bush Wing of the Republican party and has embraced the Goldwater/Reagan/Tea Party/Economic Conservative wing of the Republican party. Welcome aboard Mitt to the side of the GOP that knows how to defeat the Progressives. Make no mistake, the selection of Paul Ryan is a victory for the Tea Party over the Establishment.
Compassionate Conservatism is dead and good riddance to that Progressive ideology.

actually I would prefer a Ryan/Romney ticket but it is what it is.
I was afraid that Romney’s veep selection would be weak tea. But Ryan appears to be well steeped in fiscal conservatism.

Me too. But at least if we win it, it’s buying time until we can really get our house in order. Can’t wait for the Ryan/Biden debates. It’s going to be a bloodbath.

I think after the Ryan nomination the team Obarky are getting nervous. Ryan is a real opponent, someone armed with the facts.
The Photos That Now Keep Obama – Biden Up At Night…
Same effect as ’08. The base is energized like mad over the VP selection. The top name on the ticket both cycles was perceived to be moderate. The VP slot was clearly further right. Hmmm…you might think that would catch somebody’s attention.
Yup, he did go Tea party with this pick.
Now have Palin speak to balance the “moderates”

What does obama have to say about Romney’s VP pick ?
http://weaselzippers.us/2012/08/11/obama-ignores-questions-on-ryan-vp-pick/
Am I the only one not celebrating this? I think Ryan was FAR better in his position in the House. Do you guys trust Boehner in the house without a Ryan in the Budget/Ways Means committee? Romney was supposed to be ‘an economic guru’ -- why select someone else of the same expertise instead of ’rounding out’ the platform.
Whether we like to admit it or not, Romney had our votes just b/c Obama (well, don’t need to go on there). Ryan is NOT going to put anything new in place, and would probably scare the hell out of the ignorant electorate once they hear him. They should’ve been scared all along, but ignorance is bliss for them. Dems will run on ‘Happy Times’ and Romney will lose by a sliver.
I think this was a losing move for Romney and all of us. (since either ryan gets pulled out of office, or we get Obama again -- ich).
Another Tea Party victory.
We dodged a bullet.
Why Christie not picked as Mitt’s VP
@ legacyweapon:
No, he was sold as a Moderate/Liberal who win win disaffected Democrats. Romney was NOT liked by Economic/Fiscal Conservatives.
Paul Ryan can keep his House seat under Wisconsin law. SO if god forbid they lose, he will still be in the House. Should they win, his buddy Eric Cantor is still there, so Boehner will be held in check.
Yes, he energizes the Tea party, Economic Conservatives and can appeal to younger voters.
@ legacyweapon:
Pardon me for this but I respectfully disagree with your comment.
I think Ryan is an excellent pick for VP. I think there will be people that no matter what Romney does he isn’t going to do it the way they want. This constant complaining about Romney isn’t going to help get him elected either.
@ Lily:
This is an awesome VP pick.
@ Rodan:
Yes it is Rodan and remember I told you not to give up hope!
Don’t get down, Romney is going to have to do this election different because obama is certainly a different poltical animal and will throw everything he has at Romney. I told you Romney will do better than we would have thought.
I look at it this way obama is playing *checkers* and Romney is going to have play *chess*.

Wan’t a Romney fan but he’s our candidate now and i will support him 100%. However his picking Ryan has relived me greatly as far as any doubt or reservations I’ve had about him in the past.
My one big problem with him is of course Romney care, the very program Obamacare is modeled after. I’ve thought that will be the albatross around his neck when it’s brought up during the debates. My other problem is with this, stop saying what works in Mass. doesn’t necessarily work in the other 50 states. It doesn’t work in Mass. either and is billions in the red.

All I can say is I’m glad to see that this pick has made everyone happy.
4 years ago, Obama ran a campaign promising to be a tax reforming hawk, and now that vision is impossible for him to maintain. So far this year, he has been running on a vision of being a full blown Socialist in the bold tradition of the murkiest nightmares of the Frankfort School, and Romney has been campaigning as the heir apparent to Reagan. Ryan serves to cement that choice for Americans, and while I am not guaranteeing the victory, I can guarantee that at the very least, we are about to have the fight that we’ve been avoiding as a nation for the past 20 years. He forgot to ask anything about the Regime’s policy failures, corruption and cronyism. R/R did just fine. Straight forward, honest, “we’re in this for the country”. Schieffer’s line of questioning reminded me of why I haven’t watched 60 Minutes in over a decade.
@ John Difool:
Don’t misunderstand me.
I actually enjoy Guggi and her insight on American politics.
And, her shoe collection is to die for.
I like Paul Ryan and am pleased with Romney for choosing him. And I’m especially looking forward to seeing Romney pick John Bolton for Secretary of State. Also, I just bought two Romney/Ryan bumper stickers!

1. I didn’t claim that this was an exclusive con servative opinion but asked you if this was either an conservative OR stupid opinion.
2. If your neighbor beats his wife is this an excuse for you to beat your wife also ?

I enjoy her too, especially when she’s bashing conservatives and our military in her passive/aggressive way and making it appear like she’s just asking questions.
@ Calo:
Female employees get still less paid than male employees (77 ct. vs 100 ct.)
Stuck at the airport. CNN playing some story about evil racist Tennesseans trying to stop a mosque.
Good night @all (it’s 2:00 am)
@ John Difool:
That’s where you are wrong.
Guggi actually likes Americans and our culture.
But, she can speak for herself at this point.

Passive aggressive line of questioning. You didn’t say “is this a conservative or liberal opinion”.
Newsflash: It’s neither a conservative nor liberal opinion it’s just fact. Women will flock to a man who wields power or money no matter their political or religious affiliation or the ones they’re pursuing.

Ask Princess Natasha about that and get back to me.
Romney ‘applauds’, doesn’t ‘embrace’ Ryan plan
@ My 2 Cents:
Bolton would be a great pic for Sec of State.
Prawn Roll for Sec of Treasury OR to head up the Federal Reserve
Herman Cain at Commerce
Other suggestions?

@ John Difool:
Hey, I like those!
I’d kinda like to see someone like Col West in a powerful position, too. And in a few years, NM Gov. Susanna Martinez.
@ legacyweapon:
I agree with you, here. Who will carry the “football” now that Ryan is the VP ? VPs, unless they are Dick Cheney, historically have been politically powerless.
